Yes, it's a little bit late, but we'll wrap up the first post-break league week with this post. We begin in...
Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs seek a sweep over West Division rivals after an upset in Lighton weeks ago. Acorn struggled a bit for Lighton, collecting only 194 to open the scoring. Panda failed to take advantage of the opportunity, picking up only 119 for Southern. Spirit tallied 504 for the Prestige, giving them a more stable attack. Shannon didn't have the cleanest of swings, ending with 240 after missing the last two balls completely, leaving the Monarchs at a deficit. Twinkie I lined another 592 for Lighton, bulking up the visitors lead. Kirstin had just 249, doing little to help Southern's cause. Lydia faltered with 82 for the Prestige, putting them at a final of 1372 in what should be a win. Nicole made a solid comeback effort with 407 for the Monarchs, but they lost with 1015. Lighton secured a season split to improve to 20-14, while Southern's fourteenth straight home loss sees them to 11-31 on the year.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Stills look for a sweep after a home win over the Defenders in week 2. Easter failed to use her backhand, ending with 264 for Todavía in a middling start. Boots made it somewhat close, scoring 229 for Southridge. Sierra smashed 550 for the Stills, boosting their lead quite a bit. Debby bowed out with 290 for the Defenders, and they face a more noticeable deficit for the second half of the game. Leonardo let the Todavía lead slip with only 105 on a poor showing, continuing his run of rough road form. J. Garcia covered the deficit with her 559 for Southridge, giving them the late lead. Sparkles scored 345 for the Stills, forcing a response as they close with 1264. Shaggy wasn't exactly graceful with 199 for the Defenders, but they won with 1277. Southridge is up to 13-22 now, while Todavía takes another loss they can't afford, dropping to 19-22 as their skid reaches five games.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park: Swordpoint: The Knights look to stop their slide if they can sweep the Blades. Kiwi clobbered 920 to establish a massive lead for Terrace City at the start. Snowball carved out 447 for Swordpoint, halving the deficit with a solid opener. Jennifer couldn't get her bat down in time after a backhand settle, falling with 96 for the Knights in a poor showing. Dreamy covered a little more ground with 313 for the Blades. Oreo added a meager 162 for Terrace City, as their lead is now more vulnerable. Shawn chopped 445 for Swordpoint on his turn, giving them a minor lead with a player each to go. Stripes went with a measly 60, giving the Knights a final of 1238 as she failed to put the pressure on her brother. Strut tapped 227 for the Blades, securing their win with 1432. Swordpoint goes to 25-12 and winners of their last four, while Terrace City is down to 20-20 on a six-game losing streak.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights will get to sink or swim here, playing the second half of their doubleheader. Spice had a rough turn for Victoria, picking up only 188. Kiwi's strong run of form ended with her 82-point showing for Terrace City here. B. Chapman didn't impress anyone with 161 for the Spurs, keeping them far from safety. Jennifer bounced back with 471 for the Knights, giving them a lead at the halfway point. Yekaterina blasted 636 for Victoria in a huge appearance to negate her close friend's efforts. Oreo shot straight back with 664 for Terrace City, keeping them in control late in the game. Kavan scooped 288 to give the Spurs 1273 overall, forcing a response from the hosts. Stripes left no doubt with 391 for the Knights, giving them 1608 in the win. Terrace City gets back above water at 21-20 now, snapping their six-game losing streak, while Victoria is down to 14-22.
Apple Park, Todavía: Another West Division battle is this Purple Derby match, with the Meteors looking to sweep after their home win the week before the CCC break. Mr. Snowman had a pathetic 108 for Viewpoint Sound at the start. Easter didn't dazzle for Todavía, but her 276 gave them the lead. Mams saw a series of deflections go definitively against her cause, but she was helpless in taking 211 for the Meteors. Sierra knocked 584 in response for the Stills, giving them a more solid lead. Zach collapsed with 51 for Viewpoint Sound, making their circumstances even tougher. Leonardo got the benefit of the doubt on a close boundary call, but then promptly messed up, ending his contribution at 155 for Todavía. Kelly had a solid effort with 392 for the Meteors, but they still lost handily on a total of 762. Sparkles tacked on 231 to put the Stills at 1246 in their win. Todavía has broken a slump to get to 20-22, while Viewpoint Sound takes the season split to a record of 13-18.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Union look to avoid a sweep against the ever-dangerous Hummingbirds. Juno did pretty well with 371 for Modernistic from the start. Princess played a steady turn, raking in 487 for Tysini to take the initial lead. Ms. Puppy stumbled with just 162 for the Union, leaving them vulnerable. Leandra didn't do any better with only 112 for the Hummingbirds, keeping them ahead at the halfway mark. Chimpy didn't exactly help with only 224 for Modernistic, as they remain in a dangerous spot. Charli batted 394 to put Tysini farther ahead as the last players step up to bat. Puff I had 264 for the Union, giving them a total of 1021, which will force a response from the hosts. Bright racked up a lot of unnecessary points, rallying for 615 to give the Hummingbirds a winning total of 1608. Tysini jumps to 24-16, while Modernistic is at 14-20, snapping a four-game winning streak.
Sprint Hall, Victoria: These two teams meet again for the return match in two weeks. Boots pulled back a bit too much, taking just 80 for Southridge. Spice made a huge impact with 995 for Victoria, giving them a gigantic lead. Debby's 209 put a small dent in the deficit for the Defenders, but they still face a steep hill to climb. B. Chapman unleashed another 629 for the Spurs, extending their lead quite nicely. J. Garcia bounced 443 for Southridge, attempting to lessen the damage. Yekaterina cancelled that out with her 426 for Victoria, keeping their lead safe. Shaggy managed 285 for the Defenders, but they still lost with 1017 overall. Kavan added 184 for the Spurs, giving them 2234 in the win. Victoria is finding their home form as their road abilities deteriorate, going to 15-22 now, while Southridge is 13-23 with the loss.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors straggle but reach the midpoint of their season against a road-weary Sharpshooters side. Chris suffered a bad deflection to lead off with 117 for Capital City. Mr. Snowman had 311 to give Viewpoint Sound a noticeable lead. Missy had a measly 64 for the Sharpshooters, who face a lot of danger now. Mams was hardly better with her 96 for the Meteors, as the game appears to have taken a messy turn. Sprinkles went with 326 for Capital City, covering the deficit. Zach ripped 587 for Viewpoint Sound, blitzing them to a stable lead. Dani's 126 left the Sharpshooters with 633 total in a fifth straight road loss, with their offense in shambles. Kelly supplied 231 for the Meteors, sending them to a win with 1225. Viewpoint Sound goes to 14-18, while Capital City slides to 14-20 on a third straight loss. For the Meteors midseason report, click here.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Stills won a few league weeks ago at home, and seek the sweep here. Easter had a double-hit bring her turn to an abrupt end, as she put up only 108 for Todavía. Shadow tripled that with his 324 for Web City, giving them the early edge. Sierra couldn't do much against her father, scoring a weak 112 for the Stills. Rainmane let the game stay sloppy, taking only 64 in a poor appearance for the Spiders. Leonardo got Todavía on track again with his 447, giving them a noticeable lead. Sugar fired back with 494 to keep Web City in front late in the game. Sparkles hooked her last swing, ending with 96 and giving the Stills a loss with 763 overall. Shiny tacked on 368 for a total of 1250 for the Spiders, who won their fifth straight at home. Web City is up to 17-16 on a five-game winning streak, while Todavía slides back to 20-23.
BMW RockDome, Westside: After meeting in Infinity earlier this week, the Rockers look to sweep the Torpedoes at home. Smudge did pretty well, tallying 458 for Infinity to begin with. Misty had only 152 for Westside, and they start from behind. Shelley took a ball inside a bit, and ended with 128 for the Torpedoes on the doomed swing. Goatee played pretty big with 209 for the Rockers on her turn, but her pace could have been better, as they remain behind. Gabe added 276 for Infinity, maintaining their lead effectively. Midnight came up big with 471 for Westside, closing the gap quite a bit as the final players step up to bat. Whiskers fired back with 590 for the Torpedoes, giving them a final of 1452. Chicky Phil made a valiant effort with 432 for the Rockers, but they suffered defeat with 1264. Infinity is at 13-20, while Westside drops to 11-23.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater. The Shores suffered defeat as the Spiders started to heat up, and they'll meet again to close out Week 18. Shadow had an excellent opening salvo with 597 for Web City. Bear replied with 448 for Whitewater, establishing a high-scoring motif. Rainmane launched 659 for the Spiders, doubling their attack with her big effort. Twinkie III answered with 264 for the Shores, and they now trail significantly. Sugar pulled in 387 for Web City, keeping them firmly in charge. Cheddar did not let Whitewater go quietly, shrinking the deficit by clubbing 611 to make it a bit closer. Shiny posted 420 to give the Spiders a grand total of 2063. Wild Thing couldn't catch up, and his 169 left the Shores short at 1492. Web City is up to 18-16, boosting their playoff hopes greatly, while Whitewater falls to 16-25 as their four-game winning streak ends.
Standings update to follow. I hope to get back on track with Week 19, but no promises. It's a very busy second half of the season ahead.
