We're back after our holiday break took a bit of an extension. There are still some teams awaiting their midseason games, and we'll get to those as they come up. For now, we begin in...
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: East Division rivals get the league rebooted. Smokey kept his form strong with 568 for Diamond, staking out a strong lead. Sally couldn't cover the deficit, taking just 152 as Archtown gets off to a bad start. Citrus didn't help much with her 120 for the Gems. Sleepy B. swnug 378 for the Arrows on her turn, covering a large portion of the deficit. Pedey replied with 346 for Diamond, offsetting the damage effectively. Ruby smashed 757 for Archtown, turning the tides in their favor with a player each to go. Cassandra's 249 left the Gems short at 1283 in their loss. Dusky capped the Arrows win with her 508 individual score, for a total of 1795 in their third straight home win. Archtown stands at 13-14, while Diamond drops to 17-21.
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Volcanoes look to sweep the Oceanic Derby after an early-season home win. Starlight contributed a reasonable 351 for Pacific, showing no signs of the eye injury from the CCC. Delila fell out of form with only 104 for Atlantic in a poor showing. Ms. Kitty faltered with 84 for the Volcanoes, weakening their lead. Amber sliced up 471 for the Pirates, punishing the mistake and giving the hosts a lead at the halfway mark. Jack answered with 319 for Pacific, covering the deficit well enough. Americus charged back with 474 for Atlantic, boosting their lead. Leonette belted 572 for the Volcanoes, putting them at a final of 1326 that will force a response from the hosts. Dominic did just enough, posting 289 for the Pirates to win on 1338. The season split narrowed the gap between 20-13 Atlantic in seventh and 22-12 Pacific in sixth, but there's still quite a chasm in the standings.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The #2 team in the standings hosts the #1 team for the first time this season. Goldy led off with a big 589 for Everton, establishing the visitors very early on. Patches softened the blow with 464 for Boston, giving them game a quick jolt of offense. Puff III continues to slump, with only 160 for the Eagles. Puff II made a mess of her turn, scoring a meager 111 as the Swifts lose ground. Cleo chopped 727 to extend Everton's lead to great heights. Gradley got some of it back with 368 for Boston, but they face a big deficit. Blizzard's 211 brought the Eagles to a final of 1687. Sweetheart made a valiant effort with 529 for the Swifts, but the comeback came up short at 1472. Everton gets a critical win to go to 31-8, staving off the now 26-12 Boston side, who re-enter a tie for second with the Commerce Tradewinds.
Capital City SuperCenter: After a win two league-weeks ago in Modernistic, the Sharpshooters look to sweep the Union in a Center Division battle. Juno picked up a quick 391 for Modernistic to begin with. Chris lifted 225 for Capital City, but they trail early on. Ms. Puppy covered that damage with her 248 for the Union. Missy struck 527 in response for the Sharpshooter, garnering a lead halfway through the game. Chimpy churned out 690 for Modernistic, restoring their lead with more strength.
Sprinkles worked 436 in response for Capital City. Puff I hit just 133 for the Union, leaving them vulnerable at a final of 1462. Dani's 64 left the Sharpshooters short in their loss with 1252. Modernistic gets a big win here, going to 13-19 at the halfway mark of their season, while Capital City is 14-19 now. For the Union midseason report, click here.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors look for a series sweep of the Spurs after a handy early season win against them. Spice had only 180 despite a solid-looking start for Victoria, skying a ball to bring an abrupt end to her turn. Twilight led off with 554 for Central, rolling her MVP play over from the CCC. B. Chapman fell apart with 33 for the Spurs as they are off to a terrible start. Dustin tacked on 199 for the Warriors, adding a little to their lead. Yekaterina got some back with 368 for Victoria, closing the gap a bit. Noelle flubbed her turn with only 56 for Central, leaving them a bit more vulnerable. Kavan forced a response, slicing 433 for the Spurs to put them at 1014 total. Gizmo pummeled 654 for the Warriors, securing their win at 1463. Central jumps to 21-16, while Victoria sees a four-game road winning streak snapped as they drop to 13-21.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds face Urban Core North rivals with a chance to take sole possession of second place if they can also finish a sweep. Kiwi opened with a solid 353 for Terrace City, giving them a solid base. Tigerette had a poor outing with only 180 for Commerce. Jennifer added 384 for the Knights, strengthening their lead pretty well. Ice Cream held things steady with her 352 for the Tradewinds, limiting the damage. Oreo hammered 629 for Terrace City, extending their lead quite a bit. Lionel slugged 1125 for Commerce in a massive turn that gave them a lead with a player each to go. Stripes couldn't recover, with her 192 leaving the Knights in a loss with 1558. Lorde made it look even better with 575 for the Tradewinds, sealing their winning total at 2232. Commerce ascends to second in the league at 27-12, while Terrace City's tailspin is now at four games as they drop to 20-18.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems look to sweep an East Division rival, while the Sharks get the first game in their doubleheader. Graham posted 256 for Eastside to begin with. Smokey had a bad turn, taking just 33 as Diamond will play from a deficit. Chelsea did a good job with 433 for the Sharks, protecting their lead. Citrus closed the gap significantly with her 534 for the Gems, making it a more interesting game. Taylor pulled Eastside farther ahead with 679 in a strong performance. Pedey recovered most of that with 624 for Diamond, but they still face quite a deficit late in the game. Niki managed 161 for the Sharks, putting them at 1529, which is a bit vulnerable. Cassandra rallied with 652 for the Gems, taking the win on a final score of 1843. Diamond heads to 18-21 on the year, while Eastside has lost five straight on the road and are at 18-17.
HP Field, Eastside: The Sharks get their home match against a weak team to complete their doubleheader. Crystal had only 96 for Queens in a poor start. Graham didn't do better, taking only 80 after failing to get his bat back in time. Kayla clubbed 470 for the Flames, staking out a decent lead. Chelsea proved stronger, swinging 619 for the Sharks to own the lead at the halfway point. Max hauled in 320 for Queens in a reasonable effort. Taylor poked 361 for Eastside on her turn, giving them a little more of a lead with that showing. Paige's 64 left the Flames at 950 in a definitive loss. Niki tacked on 322 to give the Sharks a winning total of 1382. Eastside gets going again on a sixth straight home win, now at 19-17, while Queens drops to 9-24.
Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Stills have a chance to sweep the league-leading Eagles after previously beating them out along the coast. Easter didn't get a favorable start for Todavía, scoring just 20 in weak opener. Godly crushed 627 for Everton, punishing the visitors' mistake and giving the hosts a big lead. Sierra got shut down on 66 for the Stills, putting them in a lot of trouble. Puff III countered with 304 for the Eagles, adding to their lead. Leonardo didn't create much for Todavía, with his 209 only slightly denting the deficit. Cleo blasted 1153 for Everton, likely clinching the game with the huge outburst. Sparkles managed 291 for the Stills, but they got humiliated in finishing with 586. Blizzard capped it with 650 individually, giving the Eagles a final of 2734 in their fifth straight home win. Everton is up to 32-8, while Todavía gets pushed back to 19-20 as the playoffs start to get away from them.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Torpedoes look to keep their good road form going against the inconsistent Cascades. Smudge did not get a great showing with 128 for Infinity setting a low bar. Jasmine did a bit better in scoring 335 for Freedom, but it's far from a solid start. Shelley had a crisp 300 for the Torpedoes on her turn. Stinky hit 243 for the Cascades, allowing their lead to slip a bit at the halfway mark. Gabe hit a solid 336 for Infinity, keeping them in a decent position. Roxy fired back with 490 for Freedom, solidifying their lead a bit as the game reaches the final players. Whiskers faltered with 135 for the Torpedoes, leaving them short at 899 in a loss to snap a four-game road winning streak. Nikolai put up 481 for the Cascades, securing their win with 1549 total. Freedom keeps steady with the win to go to 19-17, while Infinity drops to 12-19.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots reach halfway for their season with this match. Easter popped 200 for Todavía to begin this match between historically good teams. New mother Valencia replied with 160 for Golden, doing well until an unfortunate deflection ended her turn. Her sister, Sierra, had an even 500 for the Stills, boosting their lead pretty well. Dusty stumbled a bit at the end of her turn, taking just 247 for the Pilots. Leonardo let the lead slip for Todavía, adding only 129 to their offense. Strut soared ahead with 636 for Golden, giving his team a lead with a player each to go in the timely performance. Sparkles cost the Stills the game, hitting only 72 as they took another loss with 901. A. Charlton made it a simple finish with 130 for the Pilots to put them at 1173.
