UPCL Cricket: Week 19 Part 2

We're back for the middle segment of games, beginning in...

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Sharpshooters are in peril, and need to salvage a season sweep after losing to the Specters in their home opener. Chris led off with an average 280 for Capital City. Slinks can't get her season on track, taking a mediocre 112 for Harrison. Missy was far from dazzling for the Sharpshooters, adding just 192 on her turn. Twinkie II went with 328 for the Specters, pulling them much closer. Sprinkles fired back with 506 for Capital City, solidifying their lead a bit more. Sydney didn't get it all back, but her 439 for Harrison kept them in range with a player each to go. Dani had just 112 to put the Sharpshooters at 1090 as their final score. Brownie's 200 left the Specters narrowly short at 1079, taking a tough loss. Capital City snaps a five-game road losing streak to get to 15-21 while bumping Harrison to 15-23.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: A pair of lowly West Division teams meet up for their first game this season. Panda couldn't handle a low-rolling ball, deflecting it to his stumps for a lowly score of 87 for Southern. Smudge got a bit unlucky with a deflection ending her turn at 192 for Infinity. Shannon tallied 445 for the Monarchs in a very strong appearance. Shelley answered with 535 for the Torpedoes, keeping them in front. Kirstin had only 144 for Southern, failing to cover the deficit after an odd deflection. Gabe solidified the Infinity lead, swinging 475 to give them a bit more control. Nicole got hurried and made a mistake to end with 112 and give the Monarchs 788 total in their loss. Whiskers grabbed 224 for the Torpedoes, sealing their win at 1426. Infinity gets a division game to move to 14-20, while Southern is 11-32, and can do no better than an even record now, which is highly unlikely given their quality.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige can sweep the Arrows as the latter makes their second stop of their road trip. Sally rocked 761 for Archtown, already besting the team's output from the first meeting. Acorn is struggling at home, taking just 208 for Lighton in a third straight poor showing. Sleepy B. added a middling 227 for the Arrows on her turn. Spirit hammered 609 for the Prestige, doing her best to keep them alive. Ruby countered with 288 for Archtown, not exactly using textbook swings on her turn. Twinkie I successfully covered the deficit with her 627 for Lighton, giving them a late lead. Dusky had 304 for the Arrows, and their total of 1580 forced a small response from the hosts. A small response is what Lydia produced, with 168 for the Prestige giving them the win with 1612 total. Lighton is 21-14 on a fourth straight win, while Archtown's trip is going terribly with them at 13-17 now on a third straight loss.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks try to avenge an early-season loss as the Prestige play in a doubleheader. Acorn stumbled again with only 177 for Lighton this time around. Fluffina smashed 1049 for Maplewood, giving them a huge lead. Spirit had an unassuming 263 for the Prestige on her turn, not doing much to affect the deficit. Bryant butchered his turn, taking a meager 64 for the Lumberjacks as a bit of sloppy play emerges. Twinkie I took advantage of the opportunity, ripping 616 to get Lighton back in the game. Diddley also faltered with just 49 for Maplewood, and they are now highly vulnerable. Lydia lined 536 for the Prestige, giving them a final of 1592 in a big comeback effort so far. Cubby had a pathetic 45, and the Lumberjacks fans actively booed the team off the pitch in their loss with 1207. Lighton escapes with a hard-earned win to go to 22-14, while Maplewood slips to 16-15 on the season.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Warriors seek a sweep after a dominant win over the Union back in Central. Twilight could have had a better showing, scoring just 199 for Central. Juno's 272 for Modernistic put the hosts just slightly ahead early on. Dustin flipped 361 for the Warriors on his turn, giving them a better lead. Ms. Puppy completely fell out of form for the Union, hitting a meager 64 as they now trail. Noelle had only 112 for Central in a poor showing. Chimpy rallied for 434 for Modernistic, pulling them ahead as the final players come up to bat. Gizmo gave the Warriors an excellent chance with 663 individually for a final score of 1335. Puff I couldn't manage a comeback, taking only 160 as the Union fall with 930. Central gets a character win to move to 24-16 on this four-game winning streak, while Modernistic falls to 14-21.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: These teams meet again in Modernistic in two weeks, but first the Union must deal with the second game in a doubleheader. Juno pounded 867 for Modernistic to start from a high point. Snuggle got about half of it back with 441 for Oceanside. Ms. Puppy didn't have a great turn, taking only 240 for the Union. Bells lost a small bit of ground with her 216 for the Waves after a high-arcing ball was too much for her backhand. Chimpy allowed Modernistic to face a bit more trouble, taking a measly 96 for the team. Alyssa just didn't have it in her, posting 135 as Oceanside's situation gets worse. Puff I picked up 183 to give the Union a wavering final of 1386. Pounce proved unable to break his now ten-week home slump, with only 208 points from him putting the team at a loss with an even 1000. Modernistic is now 15-21, while Oceanside's five-game home winning streak ends with them falling to 20-15.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes get a chance to avenge the loss they took in the Spiders' home opener. Shadow established a pretty solid lead for Web City, swatting 576 to begin the game. Starlight did alright with her 345 for Pacific, keeping them somewhat in range. Rainmane replied with 441 for the Spiders, boosting their lead nicely. Ms. Kitty closed the gap pretty well, pummeling 657 for the Volcanoes to make it a close game at the halfway mark. Sugar picked a terrible time to fall from form, hitting a meager 48 for Web City that leaves them vulnerable. Jack popped 330 for Pacific, giving them a noticeable lead late in the game. Shiny did force a response with 278 for the Spiders, but their 1338 final score is likely to fall. Leonette pulled in 336 for the Volcanoes, securing their win with 1668. Pacific soars to 24-14, while Web City is at an even 18-18 now.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: No real underlying story for this match. Smokey made a pretty solid start with 451 for Diamond. Watermelon kept Pearl pretty close, scoring 408 to make it interesting early on. Citrus upped the ante with 691 for the Gems on her turn, giving them a big lead. Neopolitan rallied back with 636 for the Surfers, but they slipped a bit farther behind this time. Pedey made a mess of things for Diamond, scoring just 64 to make them quite vulnerable. Wings cranked out 394 to give Pearl a lead with a player each to go. Cassandra managed to force a response by hitting 295 for the Gems to put them at 1501 overall. Cowzart hauled in 287, giving the Surfers the win with 1725 total. Pearl improved to 24-13, while Diamond is down to 18-23 in another disappointing loss.

Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Tradewinds look to continue their surge against a recently solid Tridents side. Tigerette made another big opening attack, drilling 769 to stake out a Commerce lead. Strawberry double-hit a ball, and that sent her packing with just 66 for Pronger. Ice Cream tapped 258 for the Tradewinds to add a bit to their lead. Hoot failed completely with a pathetic 8 points for the Tridents on a bad hit just as his turn went official. Lionel had 463 for Commerce, surging them forward once again. Precious also faltered with a measly 49 for Pronger, who seem doomed to lose this game. Lorde cobbled 429 for the Tradewinds, and they finish with 1919 in what is virtually guaranteed to be a win. Paps had a team-leading 144 as the Tridents lost with 267 total in a terrible outing. Commerce is continuing to hunt, now at 30-12 with a five-game winning streak, while the loss takes Pronger to 14-24 on the year.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Sharks seek the sweep after a recent victory over the Flames back at home. Graham hit 314 for Eastside in a reasonable effort. Crystal swung 450 for Queens, giving them the lead with her good performance. The Sharks got only 51 from Chelsea, an unusually poor showing from the reliable veteran. Kayla extended the Flames lead by spiking 312, putting them in a strong position. Taylor carved up a nice 558 for Eastside, covering the deficit pretty well. Max failed to cover the deficit, producing just 112 for Queens as they fall behind late in the game. Niki tapped 184 to give the Sharks a final of 1107, which is far from safe. Paige's swings were too long, and she had just 48 for the Flames, taking the loss on a total of 922. Eastside gets the sweep and moves up to 21-18, while Queens is now 11-25 in a tough year.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Arrows continue their lap around the map, making a third stop on the road. Sally didn't do very well, opening the scoring with 248 for Archtown. Frosty also struggled, taking just 200 for Royal in a poor effort. Sleepy B. absolutely demolished 1233 for the Arrows, firmly asserting their lead. Jake had only 51 for the Crowns, putting them in deep trouble. Ruby tacked on another 451 for Archtown, extending their lead again. Marsell made an impressive rally with 656 for Royal, but they are still trailing significantly as the final players come to bat. Dusky added 256 to give the Arrows their likely victorious final score of 2188. Nightfur had a middling 217 for the Crowns, giving them a total of 1124 in the loss. Archtown jumps to 14-17 with the win, while Royal is still near the bottom on a record of 12-23.

I hope to complete the league-week later today, at a normal hour, to get us back on pace ahead of a personally busy week.
