Club Cricket Challenge: Semifinals

We're back with the semifinal series to determine which two teams will fight for this year's crown. All series are best-of-three. We begin in...

Lighton's Pepsi Prestige Park, where Solid Core 2 (SC2) hosts Reality. Starlight struggled with her injury and had only 82 for Reality, and she'll request the next game off. Roxy struck 641 for SC2 in her opener, giving them a large lead. Twilight lifted 443 for Reality, keeping the deficit manageable. Leonette crushed 1298 for SC2, extending their lead well. Twinkie II had a bad swing to end her turn at 471 for a straggling Reality side. Leonardo faltered with 178 for SC2, but they still control the game. Puff II didn't jump at the opportunity to catch up, hitting just 112 in what has been a frustrating tournament for her. Shaggy got beat on a bad deflection, but produced 249 for SC2 to keep their lead safe. Spice was cold with 110 for Reality, and they are probably going to lose now. Sweetheart shrugged 164 for SC2, maintaining their lead quickly. Missy's 286 brought Reality to 1504 in the loss, and they'll be in must-win mode the next time out. Frosty dropped the mic with 487 for SC2, giving them 3017 in a decisive double-up win.

At Everton's Chevrolet Field, Brute Force (BF) welcomes Oriental United (OU). Goldy had a bit of a weak start with only 200 for OU. Rainmane set the tone with 758 for BF. Shelley continued her underwhelming play with just 192 for OU. Smokey didn't pad the lead much, adding only 225 for BF in a poor effort. Stealth made a dent in the deficit with his 472 for OU, keeping them competitive. Lionel ripped 596 for BF, counteracting the first of the visitors' big weapons. Sparkles lined 703 for OU, nearly covering the deficit all by herself. Pedey slapped 375 for BF, restoring some of their lead as the game begins to get late. Bells scored 351 for OU, and they slipped a bit farther behind. Juno had only 227 for BF, leaving them a bit vulnerable with a player each to go. Chimpy had 304 for OU, forcing a response as they finish with 2222, but the lead is minimal. Nightfur tapped 128 to give BF 2309 in the win, leaving them a victory away from the final.

Back in Lighton, Solid Core 2 brings in Reality for Game 2. Twilight led off with 353 for Reality in a flamboyant and ineffective turn. Roxy had 364 for SC2, only stopping because of a bad deflection coming back at her. Twinkie II pulled in 408 for Reality, keeping the pressure high. Boots faltered with 99 for SC2, putting them behind. Patches smashed 777 for Reality, solidifying their lead near the midpoint of the game. Leonette finally came down a bit, scoring 416 for SC2 in a decent turn. Spice hit 231 for Reality, taking a bit of wind out of their sails. Shaggy made a minimal game with her 245 for SC2, and they still trail significantly. Dusty tallied a safe 305 for Reality, maintaining the lead. Sweetheart's 264 didn't do anything for SC2, and they may take the loss here. Missy had 144 for Reality, bending under pressure but leaving the team in good position at 2218. Frosty didn't impress with 279, and SC2 took the loss on a total of 1667.

In Everton, Brute Force gets to host Game 2 against Oriental United with a chance to advance. Goldy got shut down again for OU, taking just 145 in a weak start. Rainmane blasted 542 for BF to own another intimidating lead. Stealth buckled under pressure with only 168 for OU, who are in serious trouble now. Smokey added 416 for BF, and they have a stranglehold on this match right now. Sparkles fell with 305 for OU, likely their best chance of catching up now wasted near halfway through the game. Wings knocked 637 for BF, and their lead is extremely strong now. Bells had a modest 271 as she tried to chase the game for OU, but couldn't catch up. Lionel shifted BF into a lower gear, adding 312 as they run away with the game. Wild Thing melted with 112 for OU, and they have virtually no hope now. Pedey hit a simple 184 to keep BF in control. Chimpy had just 20 for OU, true to his enigmatic form, and they lost with 1021, which will send them out of the tournament. Juno iced it with 215 to give them 2306, nearly matching the production from the other game. The team no one expected to survive the Group of Death is now in the finals and looking in fine form.

Back to Lighton once more, with the roles reversed and Reality hosting Solid Core 2. Roxy swung too soon early in her turn, scoring a meager 96 for SC2 as they get off to a bad start. Twilight punished the mistake, continuing to lead Reality with her 564 for a large opening lead. Leonette produced only 135 for SC2, as their magical run appears to have lost a lot of steam. Twinkie II crushed 1058 for Reality, leaving little doubt as to their ability to get a clutch win here. Leonardo flipped 608 for SC2, trying to keep them in the game. Patches kept Reality in stable form with her 391, protecting their lead. Shaggy managed only 160 for SC2, erasing their progress. A struggling Puff II had a pathetic 51 for Reality, but their lead is not in danger right now. Sweetheart popped 256 for SC2, barely cutting the deficit. Spice is still not in her early-tournament form, taking 240 for Reality as the final players come to bat. Frosty's 96 sealed SC2's fate, as they closed the loss with 1351 and are eliminated. Dusty hit 128, capping the Reality win at 2432.

Tune in again on Friday for Brute Force v. Reality for the CCC title. The first two games will be at Chevrolet Field, and if a third is necessary, that will be at Pepsi Prestige Park.
