We're back with the final segment of Week 25. We begin in...
Nissan Hall, Infinity: The Torpedoes host their Southwest Division rivals at the start of this segment, as the Blades can take first if they can close this six-game road trip with a win. Snowball wasted no time in establishing Swordpoint with her 615 on the opening turn, a great effort from the visiting captain. Smudge tried to fire back for Infinity, but she couldn't keep up with 384 on her turn. Dreamy didn't mix things up too much for the Blades, posting 375 in an acceptable second attack. Solaris stepped up with 504 for the Torpedoes, cutting into the deficit slightly at the halfway mark. Bandit left Swordpoint a bit vulnerable by hitting only a middling 228 on his turn, weakening their lead quite a bit this time. Whiskers charged forward readily for Infinity, slashing 567 to give them a lead with a player each to go. Stealth managed to force a response from the hosts, grabbing 314 to give the Blades 1532 overall in a poor game for the visitors. Mr. Snowman didn't have to do much for the Torpedoes, his 192 enough for them to end at 1647 and a win. Infinity's massive upset gets them up to 29-19, while Swordpoint drops to 39-20 with the frustrating loss.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters have been falling recently, while the Union come into the second of a three-game road trip flying high. Ms. Puppy had an unexpected early exit for Modernistic, as two offerings split her swing and set her down at 160. Chris didn't have the best counterattack, leading off the finale of Capital City's five-game home stand with a mild 208. Daisy continued her impressive run of road form in this game, carving out 624 to give the Union a stronger lead. Missy couldn't cover the deficit facing the Sharpshooters with 328, putting them behind halfway through the game. Puff I replied with 551, a nice supplementary effort to boost the Modernistic lead. Sprinkles didn't let Capital City fall too far behind, flipping 617 to keep them within striking distance as the final players come to bat. Strawberry made sure it would be difficult for a comeback to happen, ripping 504 for the Union to close their offense at 1839 for the game. Nicole put in a good effort, besting her mark at 570 for the Sharpshooters, but leaving them short with 1723. Modernistic is up to 24-23, while Capital City slides back to 26-28.
Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs have had better results at home lately, but those will be tested with a hot road team in the Knights arriving to challenge. Kiwi had a strong turn for Terrace City, hitting 585 to establish their offense early in the game. Panda didn't provide much of a response with 187 for Southern, giving them an early deficit to overcome. Jennifer was too slow coming back from a backhand hit to block the next ball, ending on a paltry 78 for the Knights with the early exit. Hoppy just put the Monarchs ahead with 481 on her turn, making it a close game at the halfway point. Oreo saw her pace absolutely deteriorate with a double-deflection, and then she mishit a ball and ended with only 108 for Terrace City in a poor outing. Pounce froze up on his turn for Southern, letting a ball roll behind his bat and hit his wicket to end his turn at a measly 12. His sister, Stripes, proved opportunistic this time, swatting 696 to give the Knights a final of 1467. Shannon ended with only 99 for the Monarchs, confirming their brutal loss at 779 overall. Terrace City gets their seventh straight road win to go to 33-22, while Southern's bad week continues with their drop to 19-26.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades try to narrow the gap to first place when they host a Stills team rounding nicely into form. Easter was a bit late to produce anything on her backhand hit for Todavía, which abruptly ended her turn at 126. Snowball answered with a much more respectable 457 for Swordpoint, enough to give them a solid lead. Sierra made up for her captain's inadequacies, smashing 861 for the Stills to easily cover the deficit. Dreamy got nearly all of it back for the Blades, pummeling her way to 824 to restore the lead for the hosts at the midway mark. Sparkles got into a spot of trouble for Todavía, and tried to escape on her backhand, but she crashed at 192, failing to cover the deficit. Bandit didn't pull away for Swordpoint at all, accidentally hitting a ball into his wicket to end with a poor 40. Bells covered the deficit with 341 for the Stills, but this only gave them a final of 1520, requiring a small response from the hosts. Stealth was good enough for the Blades, his 304 squeaking them ahead at the end with 1625 in the win. Swordpoint is now 40-20, still in second place, while Todavía takes a knock back to 26-23 for the year.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Torpedoes wear their third jerseys when they come to visit the Waves, who play the fourth of their six-game home stand against a tough foe. Smudge had another dud effort on the road in the lead off position, hitting a paltry 49 for Infinity this time as a road slump develops. Snuggle inflicted massive damage for Oceanside, slugging 1067 to give them a major lead. Solaris tried to go on a rally for the Torpedoes, collecting 633 before stopping due to a technical error. Caitlin did her part for the Waves to keep their lead stable, tacking on 496 with a good performance. Whiskers saw an unfortunate series of deflections cause her turn to end at 13 despite her not making any critical mistakes to cause such a result. Celestia piled on a bit with 798 for Oceanside, contributing greatly to what appears to be a win for the hosts. Mr. Snowman tried as hard as he could to help the Torpedoes with 821, but they were too far behind and fell with 1516 in the loss. Dewey brought the game to a fast close after a technical error replay, hitting just 90 to put the Waves at 2451 in the win. Oceanside rises to 25-28, while Infinity drops down to 29-20.
Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles hope a visit from the Sharks will help them get their home form on track, while the Sharks themselves open a three-game road trip. Chelsea had a very shaky start, failing to pull back enough before skying a hit to end on a meager 25 for Eastside. Goldy didn't have the most confident turn for Everton, but 320 was enough to give them the initial lead. Taylor fired back with a bit more intent for the Sharks, smacking 586 to cover the deficit this time around. Puff III felt a bit embarrassed at the end of her turn, taking only 193 as the Eagles are now behind at the halfway mark. Niki got caught looking at a high-arcing ball on her turn, as the next offering downed her at 481 for Eastside to pad their lead. Kirstin lined 722 for Everton in response, keeping the back-and-forth thing going as the hosts now carry the lead with the final players coming to bat. Paps tried and failed to attack with pace for the Sharks, ending on 98 and giving his team a loss at 1190. Blizzard kept it simple with 122 for the Eagles, giving them a final of 1357 in the win. Everton's win carries them to 30-21, while Eastside drops down to 22-27.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds play their sixth game of the week in a fully dejected state against the rapidly soaring Shores, who are in the second of a three-game road trip. Bear wasted no time for Whitewater, blasting 1140 on the opening turn to make the most of a false start replay. Princess had a decent turn for Tysini with 400, but the response was too small for the circumstances of the game. Twinkie III had another dud for the Shores, putting up only 12 as she bumped one off her handle and out of play. Leandra made a large dent in the deficit with 635 for the Hummingbirds, making it a close game again. Marsell stumbled at 211 for Whitewater, getting neither pace nor longevity in his mediocre appearance. Charli did enough to cover the deficit with 375 for Tysini, giving them a small lead as the final players come to bat. Shaggy struck 425 for the Shores in a solid outing, giving them a final score of 1788 that will slightly challenge the hosts. Brownie just did enough for the Hummingbirds with 387, covering the deficit to give them the win with 1797. Tysini's surprise win gets them up to 19-29, while Whitewater falls back to 24-16 with a bit of fatigue.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes wrap up this two-game home stand against the Specters, who are opening a four-game road trip in this tough battle. Sydney was done in by an unfortunate bounce for Harrison, with the spinning ball going out of play to end her turn at 105. Starlight took full advantage of the situation, bashing 990 for Pacific to lead them off in great form. Twinkie II didn't have a precise swing for the Specters, instead scattering 337 as they still remain at a significant deficit. Ms. Kitty lost a lot of ground for the Volcanoes when she was forced onto her backhand and sent a ball out of play to end her turn at just 25. Lexi tried to make a rally for Harrison, but she couldn't find her pace at all, ending on 420 as they remain a bit behind. Leonette fired back with 615 for Pacific, padding their lead at a critical moment. Sugar scooped up 289 for the Specters in a well-meaning effort, but they lost with 1151. Chicky Phil tacked on another 641 for the Volcanoes at the end, icing their offense at 2271. Pacific rises to 35-19 with the good game, while Harrison sinks to 19-31 in the loss.
Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves return home with the hopes of snapping a six-game losing streak there, while the Monarchs make a last-ditch effort to right themselves. Southern's Panda made an error on a big back-swing that knocked a ball into his wicket to stall his turn at 132. Juno couldn't even cover that damage, as a ball bounced over her wicket and out of play when she had 117 for Stonebridge. Hoppy had suspect placement on her turn, ending at a paltry 69 for the Monarchs. Frosty ended the scoring rut plaguing the game, swatting 472 to give the Wolves a nice lead at mid-game. Pounce broke his recent good form this time, picking up a meager 67 for Southern as their offense continues to evade them. Cobalt brought the Stonebridge offense to an even better level, gathering a crisp 762 to make their lead nearly untouchable. Shannon hit 513 for the Monarchs to bring them some respectability, but they still lost brutally with 781 overall. Prism tacked on 501 for the Wolves at the end, giving them a final score of 1852. Stonebridge did quite well for themselves to get to 20-29, while Southern drops off to 19-27 in the loss.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders wrap up a four-game home stand with the Halloween Derby, hosting their rival, the Specters, who play the second of a four-game road trip. Sydney got going with a respectable 455 for Harrison, keeping the hosts honest from the start. Shadow accepted 719 instead of taking a replay for Web City, although some would say he should have been forced. Twinkie II had a sub-par turn for the Specters with her 207, unable to meet the deficit with it. Ted didn't add a whole lot to the lead for the Spiders, but his 276 gives them a larger margin. Lexi covered the deficit for Harrison on her turn, picking up a sturdy 448 in the important attack. Shiny staved off the attack fairly well for Web City, losing a bit of ground but still hitting a solid 400. Sugar collapsed at 146 for the Specters against her former team, leaving the visitors in a loss with 1256. Dani chipped in with 339 for Web City on her turn, bringing their winning total to 1734 in the tough divisional match. Web City bounces back from a recent defeat to go to 21-25, while Harrison sinks to 19-32 with the loss.
Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills return home for a one-off game, while the Tridents wrap up a three-game road trip with both teams jockeying around the same position. Precious ripped 766 for Pronger on the opening turn, a powerful opener that sees the visitors to a nice lead. Easter did fairly well for herself and Todavía, responding with 647 to keep things close at first. Zach didn't see a ball get stuck behind his bat, and he sent it into his own wicket to cut his turn short at 174 for the now-troubled Tridents. Sierra spiked another 871 for the Stills in response, giving them a huge lead at the halfway mark. Spot put in a good turn for Pronger, hauling in 550, but he couldn't quite cover the deficit with his performance. Sparkles hopes her 320 for Todavía is enough to keep the lead standing after a jittery turn. Potter couldn't cover the deficit for the Tridents, his 337 leaving them just a bit short at 1827. Bells made it look a bit better with 496 for the Stills at the end, bringing their winning score to 2334. Todavía's critical victory gets them to 27-23, while Pronger slides back to 26-22.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: Week 25 ends as the Meteors visit the Cascades to end a five-game road trip. The Meteors will also play three of four wrapped around the change in weeks. Mams cranked out 512 for Viewpoint Sound at the start of the game, getting the visitors going pretty well. Jasmine didn't have a bad turn for Freedom, leading off the third of a six-game home stand with 361. Hoot gave the Meteors an even better second attack, muscling up to score 964 as he padded their lead greatly. Stinky saw his recent home form drop off a bit with just 253 for the Cascades in this lopsided game. Nibbles had a poor swing a bit early in his turn, the lousy placement cutting him down at 214 for Viewpoint Sound. Roxy went on a bit of a rally for Freedom, trying to pull them back into the game with her 630-point performance. Dominic also had a poor outing for the Meteors with 222, leaving their final score at 1912 overall, suddenly with the result in doubt. Nikolai made a late push with 492 for the Cascades, but they still lost with 1736 total. Viewpoint Sound's win takes them up to 20-22, while Freedom sinks to 15-29 with the loss.
That's it for Week 25. We've got Standings to update and players of the week to name on Twitter @UnitedPCL. There won't be anything from the league tomorrow, but there may be cricket on Sunday at the start of Week 26, and Tournament play resumes for the home stretch of round A2 on Monday.
