UPCL Cricket - Week 28 Part 3

By the end of this segment, the cricket season will be 80% finished. We begin the segment with...

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades are back in action at home for this game, while the Eagles look to capitalize on recent events in their second of a nine-game road trip. Goldy led off with a strong 554 for Everton, giving them something to build upon in the later stages of the game. Jasmine fired right back with 631 for Freedom, giving them a slight edge with the strong counterattack. Puff III received a replay for a false start on her turn, and then scored a meager 64 for the Eagles on the second try. Stinky attacked quite well, blasting 947 for the Cascades to pad their lead at the halfway mark of the game. Kirstin tried to get Everton back into the game, lining a quick 609 to help their offense. Roxy got most of that back for Freedom, swatting 570 to keep their lead fairly steady before the final players come to bat. Blizzard couldn't do anything at the end, bowing out with 259 as the Eagles lost with 1486 total. Nikolai clubbed another 754 for the Cascades at the finish, raising their final to 2902 in a big win. Freedom is 19-34, while Everton drops to 31-25 with the loss.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters need a boost in the standings, and they hope hosting the Wolves will provide just that. Juno made a pretty good turn for Stonebridge, starting slow but then building up to take 576 in the first attack. Chris kept it close for Capital City in this one, striking 537 as the hosts will start from a very narrow deficit. Frosty got distracted and crashed out at 87 for the Wolves, an unfortunate downturn in offense for the visitors. Missy fired back with a very crisp 806 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a huge lead halfway through the game. Cobalt couldn't get Stonebridge back on track, taking a meager 64 in a poor turn that buries them in a deep hole. Sprinkles racked up another 572 for Capital City, padding their lead quite well once again. Prism did alright with 432 individually, but it was not enough to save the Wolves, as they lost with 1159 overall. Nicole tacked on 570 more for the Sharpshooters at the end, setting their final score at 2485 in the win. Capital City rises to 28-30, while Stonebridge drops to 23-33 with the loss.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves badly need this win as they return home, but the Knights also need a boost as their schedule has fatigued them a bit. Kiwi had a couple of fortunate bounces to keep her turn going for Terrace City, but she still bowed out with a mild 271. Snuggle just put Oceanside ahead on his turn, going with pace until a bad swing downed him at 274. Jennifer showed a bit more power for the Knights with her 439, giving them a stronger second attack. Caitlin effectively countered for the Waves with 616, giving the hosts the lead at the midway point. Oreo ripped 584 with a great pace for Terrace City, covering the deficit to give the visitors another chance at the lead. Celestia did the same thing, but even better, hammering 885 for Oceanside to strengthen their lead once again with a player each to go. Stripes didn't give much of a challenge with 99 for the Knights, leaving them at 1393 in another tough loss. Dewey tapped 272 for the Waves at the end, enough to give them the win with 2047 overall. Oceanside rises once again to 29-30, while Terrace City dips to 34-27.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves return home to start a three-game home stand, while the Eagles play their third of a nine-game road trip in the league's 1,000th game of the season. Goldy set the tone quite well for Everton, pounding 667 to give the visitors a hot start. Juno showed a lack of regard for the opposition, firing back with a blistering 792 to put Stonebridge in the lead at first. Puff III left the field cursing as her turn was cut short at 33 after a poor offering caught her bat handle, setting the Eagles far behind. Frosty didn't add that much to the Wolves lead with a paltry 90, but they are still ahead halfway through. Kirstin saved the day for Everton, belting 1133 to put them in a big lead with the sudden surge of offense. Cobalt didn't let Stonebridge stay too far behind, rallying with 818 to keep things close as the final players come to bat. Blizzard put up 450 in a decent turn for the Eagles, giving them a final of 2283. Prism couldn't quite keep up for the Wolves, ending on 399 after a twisted sequence she couldn't escape. Everton grabs the win to go to 32-25, while Stonebridge is 23-34 after the loss.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union are set to host the Predators in the M-Line Derby, beginning a tripleheader for the visitors. Shawn took a bit of a stumble for Midland, sending a ball high as he ended with 152 in a disappointing first turn. Ms. Puppy capitalized with a big game for Modernistic, lining 664 with pace to give the hosts the initial lead. The Predators got back into the game as Rainmane picked up 713, covering the deficit with the big appearance. Daisy regained the lead for the Union with 354, the choppy turn giving them a much slimmer advantage. Leonardo continued to press the issue favorably for Midland, gaining 504 to put them ahead again. Puff I fired right back with 602 for Modernistic on her turn, giving their lead a small boost late in the game. Fuchsia made it difficult for the hosts at the end, clobbering 726 to give the Predators a final score of 2095. Strawberry fired back with 586 for the Union, doing enough to earn the win at 2206 overall. Modernistic had quite the fight for this win, rising to 29-24, while Midland is down to 33-23.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows begin a pair of games at home, while the Predators wrap up a pair of road games in the middle of their tripleheader. Shawn again failed to put up a healthy amount of points, with only a meager 72 for Midland at the start of this game. Sally poked a tough offering early in the game, and then settled in for a decent 343 to give Archtown a noticeable early lead. Rainmane brought a lot of energy to the attack for the Predators, slugging 1136 to put them well ahead. Sleepy B. cut into the deficit a bit with 528 for the Arrows, but they trail at the halfway mark. Leonardo buckled at 144 for Midland on his turn, a deflection taking him down after a weak showing. Ruby put Archtown within a point with her 480, the captain doing great work to leave the decision up to the final players for each side. Fuchsia probably could have gone for more, taking 383 to leave the Predators on a final of 1735. Dusky had the slightest deflection on one swing, enough to stall her at just 96 as the Arrows lose with 1447. Midland probably got lucky to win, going to 34-23, while Archtown dips to 30-28 with the unfortunate ending.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators complete their tripleheader at home against a Sharks team in the third of a four-game road trip. Chelsea reverted back to a slump state on the road, taking a replay for a technical error and then doing worse with only 80 for Eastside to lead things off. Shawn provided an effective counterattack, gathering 696 to put Midland far ahead after the first turns. Taylor couldn't get much of it back, halving the deficit with 335 for the Sharks in an acceptable appearance. Rainmane nearly doubled the offense for the Predators, drilling 688 to pad their lead quite nicely. Niki fired back with 759 for Eastside, making an attempt to rally the visitors back into competitive play. Leonardo didn't get much for Midland, posting 308 to give a small boost to the lead with a player each to go. Paps didn't have a chance to challenge the hosts, with a deflection ending his turn at 30 for the Sharks, which left them at a loss with 1204. Fuchsia got out of her slump a bit with 343 for the Predators, icing their win at 2035. Midland rises again to 35-23, while Eastside is at the opposite mark of 23-35.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors start a four-game home stand, while the Pilots begin a doubleheader in this edition of the Generations Derby. Valencia hesitated a bit too long before going for a backhand flick, sending it high and out of play to end her turn at just 225 for Golden. Twilight didn't let up for Central, slicing 585 to give the hosts a nice lead against their rivals. Dusty did enough to cover the deficit with 471 for the Pilots, but their current lead is not comfortable. Dustin regained a smaller lead for the Warriors with his 383, a good performance from the veteran star. Strut melted under pressure, with no help from a cruel deflection that ended his turn at 96 for Golden. Mario actually lost ground for Central, exiting his turn frustrated with just 60 points to add to a modest lead. A. Charlton wrangled only 192 for the Pilots at the end, leaving them well short with a loss at 984 to snap a six-game road winning streak. Gizmo made it look more convincing for the Warriors with his 526, bringing their final to 1554 in the win. Both teams leave the game at 35-19 records in a tie for 5th place.

Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots return home for the second game of their doubleheader, facing another tough opponent in the surging Shores, who begin a three-game road trip. Bear wasted no time in getting Whitewater on the board, blasting 1168 in a great performance to give them a large lead. Valencia had already committed to a swing when one ball took an odd bounce, ending her turn at 42 as she sent it sky-high. Twinkie III tacked on another 568 for the Shores with her strong appearance. Dusty slumped a bit for the Pilots under the pressure to make a comeback, instead hitting just 204. Marsell countered quite well with another big score for Whitewater, taking in 585 to put them even farther ahead. Strut got a lot of that back with his 505 for Golden, but they remain at a deep deficit. Shaggy replied with 490 for the Shores, icing their offense at 2811 in the big game that should see them take a win. A. Charlton managed 392 for the Pilots, confirming their loss at a mild total of 1143. Whitewater continues a massive rise to 32-19, while Golden drops again to 35-20, slumping at the worst time of the year.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters wrap up a three-game home stand against the Flames, who look to keep their good road form going in this one-off trip. Crystal chopped a productive 518 for Queens to lead off the game in good form for the visitors. Chris looked as if he could keep up, but an awkward bounce hopped a ball over his bat, ending his turn at 352 for Capital City. Paige provided even more strength for the Flames on her turn, cranking out 743 to pad their lead. Missy contributed 622 for the Sharpshooters, but they lost more ground midway through the game. Violetta didn't have the easiest of turns for Queens, but she played well anyway, racking up 464. Sprinkles made up some ground for Capital City on her turn, slapping 570 to shrink the deficit a bit. Max destabilized the Flames lead with 314, bringing them to 2039 as their final score. Nicole bested his effort, but not by enough, with her 320 sealing the Sharpshooters' loss at 1864. Queens defended their position, moving up to 29-22, while Capital City takes a knock back to 28-31.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers have a big chance to solidify second place at the end of their three-game home stand, hosting the Meteors in their fifth of a six-game road trip. Mams started pretty well for Viewpoint Sound with 517, a strong opening effort from the visiting captain. Misty hammered 764 in response for Westside, putting her team ahead with an even better appearance. Hoot managed to cover the deficit with 338 for the Meteors, an unconvincing second attack. Goatee added on to the Rockers lead with 498, patiently striking some tough offerings to extend their lead. Nibbles tried to get a backhand hit, but the next offering tangled him up and downed him at 227 for Viewpoint Sound. Midnight had some struggles with pace after a few ghost hits weighed her down, but she channeled her anger into 483 points to pad the Westside lead well. Dominic tried to rally for the Meteors, but his 621 left them just short at 1703, taking a tough loss. Slinks completed the game with 197 for the Rockers, the modest mark putting them at 1942 in the win. Westside jumps up to 38-19, while Viewpoint Sound slides to 24-28, at the bottom of the bubble tier.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The end of week 28 is here, with the Surfers closing a six-game home stand and the Crowns wrapping up their four-game road trip as well. Nightfur lifted 320 for Royal at the start of the game, a modest performance for the captain. Watermelon tried to attack at a higher pace for Pearl, but she couldn't sustain it, dropping out at 256. Jake picked up the scoring pace with 572 for the Crowns, giving their lead a nice extension with his performance. Neopolitan probably should have caught up to the deficit, but her turn ended abruptly at 369 for the Surfers. Kayla put the Royal lead in danger with a sub-par turn, producing a measly 30 points. Boots covered the deficit with ease, flipping 666 for Pearl to give them the lead with a player each to go. Hannah picked up 438 for the Crowns, forcing the hosts the respond as the visitors end the game with 1360 total. Wings took a tense start for the Surfers and then grew in confidence, ending on 263 to give them the win at 1554. Pearl's rise continues as they go to 33-28, while Pearl is down to 17-37 now.

That's all for this week. On Twitter @UnitedPCL, we will have standings updated and players of the week named in short order.
