UPCL Cricket - Week 27 Part 1

We're back to start a new week of cricket play. This time, we're led off by...

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds make a one-off trip back home for this one, hosting the Volcanoes as they begin a three-game road trip. Starlight produced a steady start for Pacific with 526 on the opening turn, a good mark from the superstar captain. Tigerette packed a bit more punch with her stronger pace for Commerce, tallying 626 to give the hosts a slight lead initially. Ms. Kitty countered quite well with 775 for the Volcanoes, putting them in a stronger second lead. Ice Cream popped 499 for the Tradewinds in response, unable to cover the deficit halfway through the game. Leonette smashed 1151 for Pacific on her turn, furthering their lead in the intense game. Lionel lost a lot of ground for Commerce, a slow pace bogging him down to 428. Chicky Phil pounded 1134 for the Volcanoes, their lofty offense closing at an amazing 3586 in what's almost certainly a win for the visitors. Lorde also exceeded 1k, striking 1030 for the Tradewinds to bring their losing total to 2583. Pacific escapes the barn-burner with a win to go to 36-19, back in third place, while Commerce is 23-33 now.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors are back home for a pair of games, trying to rediscover their form while hosting the Hummingbirds in the first game of their road doubleheader. Princess set the tone with great form, slugging 1189 for Tysini to get things going favorably. Twilight had a much rockier turn for Central, picking up only 251 to put them far behind early on. Leandra got beat by an unfortunate deflection for the Hummingbirds, bowing out with 276 on her turn. Dustin put a dent in the deficit, getting a backhand to come off well but ending on the next swing at 681 for the Warriors. Charli couldn't do much for Tysini on her turn, poking 304 to keep the lead steady. Mario hauled in another 783 for Central on his turn, making it a close game at this point with a player each to go. Brownie refused to make it easy on the hosts, gathering 575 for the Hummingbirds to seal their offense at 2344. Gizmo got overwhelmed for the Warriors, ending with a paltry 88 to give them 1803 in the loss. Tysini's surprising win carries them to 21-29, while Central is at 31-19 after another tough loss.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves end a six-game home stand in this one, while the Hummingbirds have quite the trek to end their doubleheader. Tysini's Princess didn't have as much as last game, but she still did well with 583 to lead off this game. Snuggle just edged Oceanside to a lead, slapping 616 on a confident turn as the captains both performed well. Leandra put in about the same effort as before, with 277 as the Hummingbirds retake a weaker lead after the second attack. Caitlin blasted 1218 in response for the Waves, giving them a huge lead at the midway mark. Charli tried to battle back for Tysini, but her pace lacked and she needed a lucky deflection just to keep going at one point, before falling with 450. Celestia destabilized the Oceanside lead with a weak 64, as the weight of the season begins to wear her down. Brownie came up just a bit short with 488 for the Hummingbirds, leaving them at 1798 in the loss. Dewey capped it with 656 for the Waves, giving them 2554 in a big and important win. Oceanside rises to 26-29, while Tysini falls back a bit to 21-30.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates have seen their record sag a bit, but they now face the Meteors, who are beginning a critical six-game road trip. Mams opened the scoring with 509 for Viewpoint Sound, a sturdy appearance that gives the visitors a good start. Delila couldn't quite keep up for Atlantic, batting 336 to keep them within striking distance early on. Hoot fired back with 471 for the Meteors on his turn, giving their lead a bit more strength with his performance. Isabella exploded with 1287 for the Pirates, carrying them a sizable lead halfway through the game. Nibbles charged back with 424 for Viewpoint Sound, but he didn't cover the deficit despite the strong turn. Americus partially broke out of her home slump for Atlantic, with 295 to give the lead a small boost late in the game. Dominic couldn't force a response from the hosts, his 321 setting the Meteors at 1725 in the loss. Klaus produced 457 more for the Pirates, giving them 2335 as they snap a five-game home losing streak. Atlantic rises to 32-24 with the win, while Viewpoint Sound slips to 23-25 in the loss.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights return from a much-needed week off to host the Tradewinds, who keep busy with this road game. Tigerette had quite the rocky start with a terrible pace she only partially recovered from, picking up 296 when it was done for Commerce. Kiwi looked like she could be much better for Terrace City, but a high hit cut her down at 344 instead for a modest lead. Ice Cream made a bigger impact for the Tradewinds, lashing out with 760 to strengthen their offense. Jennifer remained quite in form for the Knights, countering with 768 to preserve their lead. Lionel fought back with force for Commerce, striking 548 to give them another chance at the lead. Oreo supplemented the offense for Terrace City quite well, hammering 807 to put them noticeably ahead with a player each to go. Lorde collected 567 for the Tradewinds, forcing a response from the hosts as her team finishes with 2171. Stripes cost the Knights another game, unable to cover the deficit with her 209 to leave them at 2128 in the loss. Commerce escapes with the win to get to 24-33, while Terrace City is 33-23 with the loss.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks are back home for a three-game stay, while the Hummingbirds hope the friendliest venue to visitors helps them close out their three-game trip. Princess didn't have much trouble getting going for Tysini, slicing a strong 672 on the opening turn. Fluffina tried her best to keep it close, rallying with 580 for Maplewood in a nice counterattack. Leandra looked uncomfortable on her turn for the Hummingbirds, falling quickly at 138 in a poor outing. Diddley flipped the script a bit with 344 for the Lumberjacks, putting them slightly ahead. Charli bested that mark with 384 for Tysini, choosing to accept that score rather than take the optional replay she was offered for a technical error occurrence. The gamble paid off initially, as Maplewood's Bryant couldn't cover the deficit with his poor 207. Brownie picked up another 299 for the Hummingbirds at the end, closing their offense at 1493 overall. Waluigi continued to be the worst player in the league, taking only 108 as the Lumberjacks lose their 18th straight home game with 1239. Tysini rises to 22-30, while Maplewood sinks to 14-37.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows return from a bye week to play the fifth of their six-game home stand against a fellow bubble team in the Stills. Easter broke out of her recent road slump in a big way, smacking exactly 1000 for Todavía to set them on the right path. Sally didn't buckle for Archtown, firing back with 719 to keep things relatively close after the first turn for each team. Sierra had plenty of struggles for the Stills with her pace, crashing out at 306 for a minor addition to the lead. Sleepy B. left her turn early on just 64 for the Arrows after her high swing clipped the corner of the boundary. Sparkles didn't really put it out of reach for Todavía, her 218 barely adding anything to their lead. Ruby failed to make a large rally for Archtown, pulling a ball too high to end her turn at 234. Bells ran a good line of support for the Stills on her turn, lacing 616 to bring their final score to 2140 in a strong game. Dusky only hauled in 330 for the Arrows on her turn, far from enough to avoid the loss with a total of 1347. Todavía is on a surge to cement their position, now at 29-23, while Archtown slips the wrong way to 28-27.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum: The Surfers begin a season-defining tripleheader at home, hosting a Union team surging well above the playoff mark. Ms. Puppy showed absolutely no mercy, slugging 1238 for Modernistic to give them a massive initial lead at the start of the game. Watermelon could not rise to meet that challenge for Pearl, taking a solid but insufficient 371 on her turn. Daisy immediately burst forward with 841 for the Union on her turn, extending their lead significantly. Neopolitan quickly found herself overwhelmed with a cluttered pitch, bailing at 177 for the Surfers. Puff I also went big for Modernistic, bashing a crisp 1078 on her turn to take their lead to untouchable heights. Boots did fairly well with an optional replay for Pearl, posting 464 as they play out the string on this tough game. Strawberry denied the Union a chance to hit 4k, but her 280 iced their likely victorious effort at 3437, which would be a sixth straight road win. Wings managed just 126 for the Surfers, popping a ball over his wicket on a backhand to end their game at 1138. Modernistic dominated their way to 28-23, in hot pursuit of the Stills, while Pearl drops back to 25-26.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs look for another Coastal Division win against a Surfers team desperate for their first division win of the year in the middle game of their tripleheader. Watermelon had a good game going for Pearl until an awkward hit downed her at 128. Panda answered with 455 for Southern, a strong performance that sees the hosts take the early lead. Neopolitan replied with 515 for the Surfers, a strong enough effort to cover the deficit and make things competitive in this game. Hoppy countered with 554 for the Monarchs, continuing a nice run of form to reclaim the lead at the halfway mark. Boots drilled 729 in response Pearl, giving them a more convincing lead this time in a tight game. Pounce fell out of form again for Southern, his inconsistent play leading him to 231 this time as the hosts now trail late in the game. Wings stepped up pretty well with 560 for the Surfers, icing their offense at 1932 overall. Shannon couldn't complete the job for the Monarchs with 166, leaving them at a loss with 1406. Pearl's first division win takes them to 26-26 overall, while Southern falls back to 20-28.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights would like to close out a game at home with strength, but the Surfers are still fighting for a playoff spot and coming off a big win as they close their tripleheader. Watermelon had a more confident lead-off turn this time, hitting 432 in a solid opener for Pearl. Her sister, Kiwi, answered with a crisp and bold 675 for Terrace City to give the hosts a lead. Neopolitan did manage to cover the deficit for the Surfers, but her 343 left them a bit vulnerable. Jennifer had 257 for the Knights, enough to regain a weaker lead halfway through the game. Boots answered with 439 for Pearl, doing her part to give them a fighting chance in this close game. Oreo sent a ball out of bounds before it could be determined if she would get a technical error replay, scoring only 72 as Terrace City is now behind. Wings took another 449 for the Surfers on his turn, bringing their total offense to 1663. Stripes let the Knights down again in this game, ending on a deflection with 153 to set them at 1157 in the loss. Pearl recovered from their home beating to get to 27-26 with the win here, while Terrace City slips again to 33-24.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds begin their last three-game home stand against the Torpedoes, who have their last three-game road trip starting now as well. Smudge kept the offense extremely strong for Infinity, belting 1065 to establish them quite emphatically. Tigerette found herself well out of the usual swinging rhythm, producing a measly 9 points for Commerce. Solaris lacked focus early in his turn, but regained himself to tack on 535 for the Torpedoes. Ice Cream very effectively matched that for the Tradewinds, collecting 539 to keep the deficit even. Whiskers scooped another 1047 for Infinity on her turn, putting their lead at a very lofty height for this stage of the game. Lionel faltered with only 112 for Commerce, allowing the deficit to rapidly grow in what's going to be a loss for the hosts. Mr. Snowman had a weak turn for the Torpedoes with 239, but it shouldn't matter as they close with 2886 in a likely win. Lorde knocked a decent 463 for the Tradewinds, but they took a brutal loss at 1123. Infinity gets a rise to 31-22, while Commerce falls to 24-34.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Pilots have a road doubleheader around the segment break, ending this segment against a rising Spiders side as the visitors hope to retake third place. Valencia could hardly contain herself for Golden, ending a bit weak at 346 as the excitement got to her. Her father, Shadow, countered well with 503 for Web City to give them a slight initial lead. Dusty had plenty of trouble on her turn for the Pilots, unable to get herself going as she ended with just 96. Ted doubled that with 192 for the Spiders, his turn not boosting the hosts' lead as much as he would have liked. Strut showed enough veteran poise for Golden to cover the deficit with his 367, but the narrow lead the visitors have likely won't hold up for long. Shiny barely reclaimed the lead for Web City with her 224, as the low-scoring grudge match reaches the final players' turns. A. Charlton batted a calm 527 for the Pilots at the end, leading them to a final of 1336. Dani couldn't rally back for the Spiders, ending on 169 as they lose with 1088. Golden just sneaks by with a win to get to 33-17, while Web City drops to 23-27 with the loss.

That's all for this segment. Week 27 should be done by Thursday at the latest.
