UPCL Cricket - Week 26 Part 1

We're into the final ten weeks of the season now, the beginnings of crunch time for bubble teams. This week begins in...

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors return home for a five-game stand, starting by hosting a Crowns side that has struggled through most of the season. Nightfur had an awful start for Royal on her turn, taking a measly 28 to get the game going. Mams proved to be brutally effective on the counterattack, slugging 1432 to give Viewpoint Sound a massive initial lead in this game. Jake had a more respectable outing for the Crowns with his 385, but they remain far behind so far. Hoot weakened the lead for the Meteors, taking a paltry 63 on his turn, although the damage is minimal. Kayla had a good pace going for Royal, but she couldn't keep her placement going, falling with 287 to hurt the comeback. Nibbles fought off his early struggles with great strength, blasting 1135 to pad the Viewpoint Sound lead to an unreachable height. Hannah didn't put up much of a fight with 164 for the Crowns, sealing their losing total at 864. Dominic iced the Meteors offense with his 351, giving them a winning final of 2981. Viewpoint Sound's big win gets them to 21-22, while Royal slides to 14-34 with the loss.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents hope they can stave off the Dark Magic-clad Prestige in this game that could set the tone for the rest of each team's season. Acorn didn't have to search for long to find his swing, crashing to 868 for Lighton with a well-played turn. Precious didn't have as good of a turn for Pronger, poking 262 as her home struggles persist slightly. Spirit undid most of that damage on her turn, with a failed backhand downing her at 259 for the Prestige. Zach couldn't get enough to gain any meaningful ground for the Tridents, ending his turn on 264. Twinkie I failed to deal with a cluttered pitch for Lighton, but produced quite well at 664 to extend their lead. Spot kept the Pronger offense consistent, but 272 is not enough to help them out of a deep deficit this late in the game. Salmo attacked with pace at first, but a poorly hit ball cut him down at 112, and gave the Prestige a final of 1903. Potter fell far short for the Tridents with only 227, leaving them at 1025 in the loss. Lighton's upset win gets them to 22-32, while Pronger drops to 26-23 with the defeat.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors meet their Coastal Division and Purple Derby rivals in the second of a five-game home stand when the Stills come to town. Easter kept her turn going for awhile with a backhand, but she fell at 144 for Todavía under a relentless bowling turn. Mams, spent from the week's opener, spilled a ball and ended with 177 to give Viewpoint Sound a narrow lead. Sierra provided a hefty counterattack for the Stills, smashing 1006 to give them a large lead. Hoot misplayed a bouncing ball for the Meteors on his turn, falling with 283 as they drop behind. Sparkles paddled a strong 487 for Todavía on her turn, attacking with a high pace to add to the visitors' lead. Nibbles made a bit of a dent in the deficit for Viewpoint Sound, batting 591 to try to keep things close late in the game. Bells tacked on 345 for the Stills at the end, setting their final score at 1982. Dominic couldn't keep his swing on target, taking a measly 51 as the Meteors lose with 1102. Todavía's rivalry win gets them to 28-23, while Viewpoint Sound takes a setback to 21-23 on the year.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves play their fifth of a six-game home stand, hosting the Union, who are closing up a three-game road trip. Ms. Puppy had a terrible performance for Modernistic, popping a ball up early to end her turn at only 69 points. Snuggle didn't do a lot better, but he gave Oceanside the initial lead with an okay 287. Daisy did well to pick up the slack for the Union, slicing her way to 598 in a strong secondary attack. Caitlin countered well enough for the Waves with 503, but their lead shrunk just slightly at the halfway mark. Puff I turned the game completely around in favor of Modernistic, carving out 944 on a great turn from the reliable veteran. Celestia couldn't get her bat up in time to block a deflected offering, causing her turn to end at 94 for Oceanside. Strawberry also showed some strength for the Union, paddling 769 to bring their final score to 2380. Dewey let the Waves down with 84, not even trying for a comeback as they lose with 968. Modernistic's fifth straight road win has them at 25-23 and climbing into a playoff spot, while Oceanside drops off to 25-29.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades play in the fourth of a six-game home stand, while the Shores make the long trip to complete a three-game road trip. Bear's good fortune on the road just dried up, as he exited this game early with a measly 48 for Whitewater. Jasmine had an amazing backhand followed by another two-touch to keep her turn going, but the moments of panic caused her to end with 245 for Freedom. Twinkie III took advantage of the jittery captains to put herself in the spotlight, smacking 968 to give the Shores a good lead. Stinky's hot stretch is over, as the Cascades veteran bowed out with 57 on a double-tapped ball this time. Marsell didn't totally put the game out of reach, contributing 312 for the Whitewater lead on a decent turn. Roxy struggled quite a bit to make the progress she did, hitting 324 for Freedom to put a tiny dent in the deficit. Shaggy tapped a reasonable 280 for the Shores at the end, giving them their final of 1608. Nikolai made a hefty charge for the Cascades with 780, but came up short as their final rested at 1406. Whitewater's win gets them to 25-16, while Freedom drops further to 15-30.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds are back home for a pair of games, while the Wolves are doing a one-off in this game. Stonebridge saw their captain Juno get off to a good pace, but she couldn't sustain it and fell at 225 in a mediocre opener. Tigerette countered quite well for Commerce, lashing out with 510 to give them the initial lead. Frosty fired back with confidence for the Wolves, pulling them ahead with her 730 in a remarkable effort. Ice Cream escalated the offense even more, demolishing 1616 for the Tradewinds on her turn to give them a massive lead. Cobalt had a terribly unfortunate turn, as his second offering got caught on his backhand, and he flicked it onto his wicket just after the third ball made the turn official by glancing off his back and into the stumps, giving him 0 points. Lionel ripped another 768 to confirm the Commerce lead even more with a big appearance. Prism couldn't save face for the Wolves, bowing out at 96 to give them 1051 overall in a brutal loss. Lorde iced it with 185 individually to give the Tradewinds 3079 in the big win. Commerce is up to 22-31, while Stonebridge sinks to 20-30 with the loss.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige offense has recently woken up, and they hope it will wreak havoc on the visiting Gems in this one. Smokey had an alright start to his turn, and he kept his pace steady, but he fell off at 259 for Diamond, a middling effort in the end. Acorn went with a blistering pace for Lighton, blazing his way to 1414 to give them a very strong lead early in the game. Citrus got a bit aggressive on her turn, ending at 152 as the Gems have little hope for a win now. Spirit boosted the Prestige lead with a great turn of her own, clubbing 845 in the second attack. Pedey gave Diamond their most respectable turn so far with 576, helping the appearance of the game if nothing else. Twinkie I pretty quickly ruined the 4k dream for Lighton, falling at 28 when a ball got underneath her swing and took her wicket. Rosalina put in a comeback effort for the Gems, sensing weakness, but her turn ended with a strong 780, leaving them short at 1767. Salmo also made a quick exit on 245 for the Prestige, icing their win at 2532. Lighton didn't make it look as easy as it was, but still get to go to 23-32, while Diamond sinks further to 19-39.

Volkwasgen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors play their third of a five-game home stand, which is all in this week, while the Rockers return from a week off. Misty attacked with pace, looking refreshed from the break as she lined 596 for Westside in a good start. Mams didn't let them get too far away, striking back with 432 for Viewpoint Sound to keep it close initially. Goatee fired back with 654 for the Rockers, padding their lead with a relentlessly solid swing. Hoot accepted a replay for a technical error and improved slightly for the Meteors with his 260, but they lost ground in the game. Midnight covered that damage herself for Westside, going a bit slow on pace but taking 333 to keep the lead steady. Nibbles made that turn a wash, batting 344 for Viewpoint Sound in an alright performance. Slinks bashed 1138 for the Rockers at the end to top off their performance, bringing their likely victorious final to 2721. Dominic came up with only 247 for the Meteors, giving them the loss at 1283 overall. Westside returned to action with authority in getting to 34-19, while Viewpoint Sound seems to be running out of steam a bit at 21-24.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates are fresh off a bye to face the busiest team in the league, the Blades, who want to retake first place here. Snowball looked a bit tired on her swing, taking only 80 points in the lead off position after a poor swing. Delila fired off 320 for Atlantic, giving them a modest lead at first. Dreamy put a bit more intent behind the Blades' effort with 550, covering the deficit on her solid turn. Isabella fired back with 391 for the Pirates, restoring a smaller lead for the hosts as the game reaches its halfway point. Bandit showed poise under pressure and then immense strength, belting 909 for Swordpoint to give them a confident lead. Americus found herself under siege early on, and she couldn't pull a ball back from the brink, ending with a meager 87 for Atlantic. Stealth racked up 472 for the Blades at the end, sealing their offense at 2011 in a great team performance. Klaus tried to rally the Pirates back into the game, but fell at 608, leaving his team at 1406 in a fifth straight home loss. Swordpoint rises again to 41-20, while Atlantic slips back to 31-24.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves are back home for a pair of games versus Northeastern foes, while the Spiders start a doubleheader here before heading home. Shadow laced a solid 739 for Web City at the start, pacing their attack very well in this road game. Juno tried to save her turn on a backhand after a deflected ball came toward her, but she just slowed it down as it ended her turn at 84 for Stonebridge. Ted brought a good supporting attack for the Spiders, pounding 595 to pad their lead. Frosty made significant progress against the deficit for the Wolves, flipping 858 on a magnificent turn. Shiny struggled a bit with a bouncing ball for Web City, ending her turn on a reasonable 352 as she was cut down a bit early. Cobalt couldn't do worse than his last game, but his confidence looked shaken as he produced 263 for Stonebridge in a mild effort. Dani got beat by a deflection, ending her turn at just 36 for the Spiders to give them 1722 overall. Prism made it a very close game with 496 for the Wolves, but they just lost with 1701 total. Web City sneaks away with the win to get to 22-25, while Stonebridge is down to 20-31 after the unfortunate finish.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders return home to complete their doubleheader against a Surfers side returning from a bye to continue their five-game road trip in its third game. Watermelon attacked with pace at first, but she couldn't keep the swing down, ending at 160 for Pearl in a slow start. Shadow stood his ground and played without fear, cruising to 856 for Web City to set them ahead. Neopolitan had a very poor turn with only 112 for the Surfers, allowing the deficit to grow. Ted made sure to grow the advantage for the Spiders, drilling 600 to give them a good boost. Boots continued the downward trend for Pearl with 168, failing to get them off the starting blocks as the game seems to be a loss for them already. Shiny made a mess out of her turn with only 98 for Web City, getting caught between forehand and backhand as she took out her own wicket. Wings had the Surfers' best effort with 314, but they still fell handily at a total of 754. Dani poked 119 for the Spiders at the end, giving them 1673 overall in the win. Web City rises again to 23-25, while Pearl drops back to 22-25, behind their most recent hosts.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The segment finale sees the Hummingbirds back at home to host the Specters in their third of a four-game road trip. Sydney had a very lackluster performance for Harrison with only 148, putting them in a dangerous position early on. Princess led off with 697 on a replayed turn after she played through a technical error. Nonetheless, the Tysini captain earned a lead. Twinkie II tried to rally back but fell short at 290 for the Specters, unable to cover the deficit at hand. Leandra fired back with 361 for the Hummingbirds, covering the most recent wave of damage at the halfway mark. Lexi had a decent turn going for Harrison until an offering came fast and high, getting over her bat to stall her turn at 162. Charli only popped 220 for Tysini on her turn, but they remain in the lead by increasing margins as the final players come to bat. Sugar went on a rally with 657 for the Specters, but they still came up short at 1257 in the loss. Brownie answered with 353 for the Hummingbirds, giving them a winning final score of 1631. Tysini's win takes them to 20-29, while Harrison's fourth straight road loss puts them at 19-33.

That's all for this segment. I'm not sure if the next one will be published tomorrow, but there will be both pool and cricket action documented on Twitter @UnitedPCL.
