The middle segment of the week is ready to go, beginning with a big game in...
Amazon Field, Golden: The Arrows recently took down one league leader, and they hope to do the same when they visit the currently-leading Pilots in the segment opener. Sally had a little trouble with pace for Archtown to start the game, picking up 362 in a decent turn for the visitors. Valencia simply lasted longer for Golden, not playing all that much better but earning 689 after a false start replay. Sleepy B. fired back with 666 for the Arrows on her turn, covering the deficit pretty well. Dusty played very confidently, but she sent her last swing high and ended on 560 for the Pilots to regain a smaller lead. Ruby got knocked down at only 120 for Archtown, unable to cover the deficit with the unusually short turn. Strut didn't pull Golden too much farther ahead, chipping in with 328 to keep their lead healthy enough. Dusky made a good impression with 647 for the Arrows, covering the deficit as she ices their offense at 1795 total. A. Charlton suffered a frustrating deflection that downed her at 36 for the Pilots, giving them a loss on 1613. Archtown has taken down the top two teams in the league to rise to 30-27, while Golden drops to 35-18, back into a tie for second place.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights hope a game at home can steady their season, while the Hummingbirds are setting out on a three-game road trip. Princess will not roll over for Tysini, lashing out with 755 to give the visitors a strong opening turn. Kiwi didn't get her swing into form very well for Terrace City, ending on a pathetic 48 as they start from far behind this time. Leandra added a modest 306 for the Hummingbirds on her turn, giving their lead a little more heft. Jennifer made some minor progress for the Knights with 383, but the deficit is large at the midway mark. Charli weakened the Tysini lead with only 190 in a poor turn from the sophomore. Oreo finally made the big cut Terrace City needed to get back into the game, smacking 794 to narrow the deficit dramatically ahead of the final players' turns. Brownie countered with a solid 408 for the Hummingbirds, bringing their final to 1659 overall. Stripes crumbled under pressure again, taking a weak 126 to leave the Knights at 1351 in their fourth straight home loss. Tysini's surprising win gets them to 23-32, while Terrace City dips to 34-26.
FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks wrap up a lousy four-game home stand this time out, facing a suddenly-hot Crowns team in the third of their four-game road trip. Nightfur pummeled 817 for Royal in an excellent starter for the visitors, giving them a healthy lead already. Chelsea shot back with a crisp 472 for Eastside, going with a good pace, but unable to cover the deficit. Jake tried to mitigate the recent damage for the Crowns, collecting an acceptable 337 to maintain the lead. Taylor flicked 722 for the Sharks on her turn, giving them a very slight edge at the halfway mark. Kayla countered with 407 for Royal on her turn, a solid performance to challenge the hosts with. Niki had a bit of a weak turn for Eastside, dropping them behind again with her 274 as the game remains close in the later stages. Hannah went with 575 to pad the Crowns lead at the end, her firm turn giving them a final of 2136. Paps couldn't recover enough for the Sharks, his 186 leaving them with a loss at 1654 total. Royal is in form on the road right now, rising to 17-36, while Eastside drops to 22-33 with another home loss.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks try to break their home losing streak with a doubleheader, first hosting the Shores, who wrap up a five-game road trip. Bear had a bit of a lengthy turn, but without much pace, as the Whitewater captain posted 330 to lead things off. Fluffina had the opposite problem, getting a great pace going but faltering early at 426 for Maplewood. Twinkie III couldn't do enough to help for the Shores, covering the deficit lightly with her 305. Diddley had dead balls on the pitch and a few bad deflections to kill his turn quickly at just 17 for the Lumberjacks. Marsell made sure not to waste the gift of the lead Whitewater received, extending their advantage with 543 on a strong turn. Bryant tried to counter for Maplewood, but his 327 couldn't fix the damage done as the deficit deepened late in the game. Shaggy tacked on another 688 for the Shores on her turn, bringing their final to 1866 in what should be a win. Waluigi briefly had a great pace for the Lumberjacks, until hitting a ball high to end on 128, icing their loss at 898. Whitewater gets the easy win to go to 29-19, while Maplewood is 14-38 after another loss.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks will change uniforms for the second part of the doubleheader, while the Cascades begin a doubleheader of their own in a favorable position. Jasmine didn't even let the hosts settle in, instead slugging 1022 for Freedom to give the visitors a huge lead. Fluffina had three of those digits in place, scoring 122 in a lousy turn for Maplewood. Stinky made an ill-advised shrugging hit on a ball, already suffering from low pace before crashing down at 270 for the Cascades. Diddley recovered a small portion of the deficit by scoring 434 for the Lumberjacks. Roxy stumbled with a measly 25 for Freedom, weakening their lead again at a bad time. Bryant erased the rest of the first attack against the hosts with 466 for Maplewood this time, getting them within striking distance late in the game. Nikolai provided a bit more modest padding with 307 for the Cascades, finishing their game at 1624 total. Waluigi couldn't come back, a familiar theme, as his 227 leaves the Lumberjacks short on 1249 overall. Freedom doesn't play great, but the win puts them at 18-33, while Maplewood's twentieth straight home loss sinks them to 14-39.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades return home for a pair of games, the first ending their doubleheader against a desperate Waves team. Snuggle's start for Oceanside lacked much pace or confidence, and with only 197, reversing their recent road fortunes will be tougher. Jasmine slammed her bat down as a deflection cost her a promising turn, ending on a pitiful 69 for Freedom. Caitlin had a long turn for not much scoring, her 368 adding a little more strength to the Waves lead. Stinky also suffered a deflection for the Cascades, ending his turn at 176 as the deficit grows, frustratingly for the hosts. Celestia belted 836 for Oceanside in response, likely doing her part to cement their lead with the big performance. Roxy shot back with an even 400 for Freedom, but it didn't shrink the deficit, as the hosts are likely to fall this time. Dewey did alright for the Waves, but nothing spectacular as he tacked on 294 to give them a final of 1695. Nikolai tried for the rally for the Cascades, but 343 left them at 988 overall in a brutal loss to a better team. Oceanside had some early luck to get to 28-30, still in the playoff fight, while Freedom sinks to 18-34.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers and Tridents meet in the middle of the segment for a fierce positioning battle just above the cutoff line. Precious had a very rough start for Pronger, only able to pick up 58 on her poor turn as the visitors will be starting from behind. Watermelon didn't have a great opening turn, but her 252 sufficed to give Pearl at least a temporary lead. Zach did better with 449 for the Tridents, enough to cover the deficit and keep things competitive. Neopolitan didn't get all of it back, but she retained a smaller lead with her 391 for the Surfers. Spot got beat on a brutal deflection for Pronger, watching his good pace go to waste with only 240 to contribute to the score. Boots slapped Pearl into a more comfortable lead, rallying with 767 to give the hosts a large advantage late in the game. Potter didn't do enough for the Tridents with 208 on his turn, allowing them to take the loss at 955 total. Wings had to settle for 33 after a distraction disrupted his turn, but the Surfers won with 1443. Pearl took the shaky victory to get to 32-28, while Pronger dips to 28-26.
BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers play the second of a three-game home stand against the Torpedoes, who wrap up their last multi-game road trip in this appearance. Smudge had a decent performance going before scooping a ball too high to end on 264 for Infinity. Westside got a stunning appearance from Misty, who crushed 1144 to give the hosts a massive initial lead. Solaris couldn't keep control of his swing for the Torpedoes, bowing out very early on 145 in a disappointing turn. Goatee also stepped up quite well for the Rockers, piling on with her 727 to pad the lead at the midway mark. Whiskers fired back with a sturdy 504 for Infinity, but that didn't do much against the large deficit. Midnight refused to stand down for Westside, countering with 530 to keep the lead steady with another strong outing. Mr. Snowman churned out 550 for the Torpedoes, but they ended up far short at 1462. Slinks brought a quick finish with 176 for the Rockers, frustrated by the pitch conditions as she iced their score at 2577. Westside got the big win to rise to 37-19, just a nose into second place in the league, while Infinity drops to 31-24.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores open up a home doubleheader with a fairly soft opponent, the Monarchs. Panda couldn't handle the cluttered pitch at all for Southern, dealing with deflections and dead balls to earn a measly 51 points. Bear drilled 770 in response for Whitewater, the captain inflicting heavy damage on the visitors with the opening attack. Hoppy had to fight hard to keep her pace up for the Monarchs, but even her 714 fell short of covering the deficit. Twinkie III supported the lead pretty well with 457 for the Shores, keeping them noticeably ahead. Pounce answered with another crisp turn, cranking out 591 to keep Southern competitive in this tough battle. Marsell tripped up with only 66 for Whitewater, the faulty turn putting the hosts behind with a player each to go. Shannon didn't add much to the Monarchs lead, hitting a meager 45 to give them 1401 total and leave the game wide open. Shaggy came through with 368 for the Shores, giving them the win with 1661 total. Whitewater jumps up to 30-19, while Southern is down to 20-29 with the loss.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores complete their doubleheader by bringing in the Sharks, who are beginning a four-game road trip. Chelsea saw her road slump persist for Eastside, knocking a ball accidentally into her own wicket to end on a poor 20. Bear showed no mercy at all, putting Whitewater far ahead with 783 in another big performance by the quiet captain. Taylor's swing didn't lend itself all that well to a strong pace, and she ended up with a decent 378 for the Sharks. Twinkie III immediately countered with a pacey 551 for the Shores, extending their lead quite nicely. Niki did what she could for Eastside, not quite getting into a rhythm as she collected 376 to help their cause. Marsell may be slipping out of his home form a bit, bailing with only 128 for Whitewater this time as their lead takes a slight hit. Paps had a good pace going, but he only lasted long enough to take 368 for the Sharks, leaving their losing total at 1142. Shaggy found a groove and rode it to the end, picking up another 722 for the Shores to ice their win at 2184. Whitewater jumps to 31-19, while Eastside is down to 22-34 with the loss.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes also host a doubleheader to end the segment, first facing a Stills team they are currently tied with in the standings. Easter wasted no time in getting Todavía going, smacking 656 to give the visitors a strong opening turn. Smudge rallied with an even stronger 879 for Infinity, pulling the hosts noticeably ahead for the initial lead. Sierra pulled back a bit too much, unable to counter her sister's effort as she put up a paltry 42 for the Stills. Solaris launched 907 for the Torpedoes in response, another great effort seeing the hosts' lead extend significantly. Sparkles didn't do enough to get Todavía back in the game, exiting at 184 as the score turns lopsided. Whiskers replied with 409 for Infinity, a solid performance to keep their lead in good form. Bells tried to keep the Stills in the game, but even a big rally with 624 was too little for them, and they lost with 1506. Mr. Snowman tapped another 280 for the Torpedoes, sealing their win at 2475. Infinity gets a critical win for positioning, going to 32-24, while Todavía falls to 31-25 with the loss.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The segment ends with the second game of the Torpedoes' six-game home stand, and the second game of the Sharks' four-game road trip. Chelsea finally snapped the road slump for Eastside, ripping 824 to give her side a very good first attack. Smudge couldn't replicate her previous outing, ending on just 112 for Infinity as they will face a steep deficit this time. Taylor put in a good supporting run for the Sharks with 714, adding a significant amount to their lead. Solaris managed to avoid getting his swing tangled up, but a deflection downed him at only 331 for the Torpedoes. Niki supplied Eastside with another 443 on her turn, a solid appearance for the sophomore slapper. Whiskers tried to go with pace for Infinity, but she sent a ball too high and out of play to end at 146 for Infinity, hurting their comeback chances. Paps did well with a ball behind his bat in this appearance, still hauling in 274 to bring the Sharks to a final score of 2255. Mr. Snowman couldn't complete the comeback, with his 525 leaving the Torpedoes short at 1114. Eastside had quite the bounce-back effort to get to 23-34, while Infinity slipped to 32-25 after using all their points in the last game.
That's all for this segment. The first few games of segment 28.3 will be on Twitter @UnitedPCL tonight, with the rest coming tomorrow morning and afternoon.
