UPCL Cricket - Week 27 Part 3

This is the final segment of Week 27, beginning with a tripleheader in progress...

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers continue their tripleheader as they start a six-game home stretch against the Defenders in the middle game of the trio. Bianca led off with a decent performance for Southridge, batting 407 to get the scoring started. Watermelon did enough to get Pearl into the lead, hauling in 519 on a good turn for the initial lead. Debby countered even stronger for the Defenders, giving them a stronger second lead with her 604. Neopolitan showed anger after ending with 424, as she felt her turn was unfairly difficult, causing her to leave the hosts at a deficit. Stephanie did not ease up for Southridge at all, striking her way to 516 to pad their lead effectively. Boots fired back well with 550 for Pearl, slightly shrinking the deficit in this close game. Hughbert came in a bit low for the Defenders with 376, bringing their final score to 1903. Wings did plenty to rally the Surfers to the win, his 631 icing their game at 2124. Pearl gets a nice boost up to 29-27, while Southridge is 21-36 after the loss.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers complete the tripleheader with their second of a six-game home stand, bringing in the Knights for their first of a pair on the road, and a rematch from earlier in the week. Kiwi didn't get the vengeance she wanted for Terrace City, hitting a meager 90 to open this game. Watermelon didn't get much more, showing fatigue as she bowed out with 207 for Pearl. Jennifer gave the Knights a more confident second attack with 360, but they are far from safe. Neopolitan restored a lead for the Surfers at the halfway mark with 395, a decent effort in the low-scoring battle. Oreo didn't have a great turn going, but she could have had more before a deflection struck her down at 287 for Terrace City. Boots slipped up with only 223 for Pearl on her turn, leaving it to the final players to decide the result. Stripes put in a decent try with 329 for the Knights, bringing their final score to 1066. Wings pummeled 880 for the Surfers at the end of this game, confirming their win at 1705 total. Pearl gets another big win to sweep the Knights and go to 30-27, while Terrace City slips back to 33-25 as their seven-game road winning streak is snapped.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills get another home game this week, hosting a Specters team that closes a so far fruitless four-game road trip. Sydney had no difficulty in going big for Harrison right at the start, rattling off 756 in an excellent opening turn for the visiting team. Easter got a reasonable chunk of that back in her attack for Todavía, collecting 458 on a solid turn from the captain. Twinkie II shot back with a good attack of her own, smacking 608 for the Specters to add a substantial amount to their lead. Sierra floated her way to a crisp 721 for the Stills, shrinking the deficit at the midway mark. Lexi couldn't keep up for Harrison, falling fast at 160 as their lead becomes much weaker. Sparkles wasted the opportunity to help Todavía catch up, actually losing a bit of ground when she posted just 145. Sugar also had a rough outing, taking a false start at first and then just 102 on the second attempt to leave the Specters at 1626 total. Bells pulled off the comeback in great form with 778 for the Stills, giving them 2102 and the win. Todavía's win takes them to 31-23, while Harrison is 19-34 after this loss.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems open a pair of games at home against one of two teams worse than them in the standings, the lowly Crowns, who begin a four-game road trip. Nightfur had an acceptable appearance for Royal this time, chipping 297 to get things started. Diamond's Smokey was forced to go to his backhand early in his turn, and he couldn't save the appearance, ending at 176 as he flipped the ball out of play. Jake did well for the Crowns, cranking out 616 on their second attack to strongly pad the lead. Citrus didn't let the Gems get too far behind, answering with 518 to keep them within striking distance. Kayla looked quite lively on her turn for Royal, slugging 1028 to boost their lead once again. Pedey dug in to produce 496 for Diamond on his turn, but they are now far behind with just a player each to go. Hannah tacked on 353 for the Crowns at the end, giving them a final of 2294, their best road effort of the year. Rosalina couldn't get into position in time to save her turn, bowing out at 135 as the Gems lose with 1325 total. Royal's win takes them up to 15-36, while Diamond sinks to 20-42 with the loss.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates are back home for a game, facing a Predators team that will provide quite the challenge for ascension. Shawn had a solid opener for Midland, bouncing 489 to get them off to a stable start in the game. Delila didn't hold her focus on the game, crashing out with a measly 86 for Atlantic in a terrible first turn. Rainmane clobbered 777 for the Predators in an excellent second turn, giving their lead a significant boost. Isabella tried to keep the Pirates in form, batting 520 to mitigate the most recent wave of damage against them. Leonardo only picked up 289 for Midland on his turn, destabilizing their lead slightly with the weaker performance. Americus made a small cut into the deficit for Atlantic, poking 361 to get them a bit closer. Fuchsia didn't struggle that much, but one bad swing set her down at 233 for the Predators, giving them a final of 1788 for the game. Klaus couldn't save the day for the Pirates, his 361 leaving them short at 1260 in the loss. Midland's win gets them to 33-21, while Atlantic drops down to 32-26 with the loss.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks are hoping the start of a four-game home stand can bring them good things, starting against the Spiders. Shadow hit a strong 463 for Web City to lead things off, giving the visitors a nice base to work from for the game. Chelsea, who had been in great form prior to this game, had just 110 for Eastside in a slow start this time around. Ted stepped up to tack on another 399 for the Spiders on his turn, padding their lead nicely with the performance. Taylor charged forward for the Sharks, belting 887 to give them the lead halfway through the game. Shiny responded with even more strength for Web City, plucking 1010 to restore all of their lead from before. Niki kept things incredibly close for Eastside on her turn, hammering 850 with great pace to set up a thrilling finish. Dani didn't inspire much confidence for the Spiders with 192, leaving them at 2064, a vulnerable mark. Paps came up just short with only 193 for the Sharks, giving them a losing final of 2040 in the narrow result. Web City is very lucky to get to 25-27, while Eastside crumbles to 22-30 with the disappointing loss.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades would like to strike here as a spoiler for posterity, but the Warriors need to turn their recent slump around with a pair of road games late in the week. Twilight showed up pretty well for Central with her 560, staying in line with recent road appearances. Jasmine let her swing get away from her, ending on a paltry 12 for Freedom as they'll start from way behind. Dustin added on pretty well with 434 for the Warriors, giving them a hefty lead after two turns. Stinky came under a barrage of offerings very quickly, unable to fight them off and ending with a poor 61 for the Cascades. Mario had just 16 for Central, a stumble the visitors cannot afford for their confidence. Roxy took advantage of the opportunity to dent the deficit, putting up 675 for Freedom to get them a bit closer late in the game. Gizmo chipped another 264 for the Warriors on his turn, icing their offense at 1274, which doesn't feel comfortable for them. Nikolai tried to force the issue, but his 373 left the Cascades a bit short at 1121. Central gets away with a sloppy win to get to 33-19, while Freedom sinks down to 17-33 with the loss.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders return home with the hopes of trying to inch closer to the playoffs, but the Union have been just as hot and hope to stall their hosts. Ms. Puppy thought her pace was better than it was, as she had a bad swing and ended on a mild 260 for Modernistic. Shadow also expected a bit more than he got, but his solid 384 gives Web City the initial lead in this important battle. Daisy popped back with 636 for the Union on her turn, giving them a much better second lead. Ted replied with 464 for the Spiders, putting them just slightly behind at the midway point. Puff I got struck down by an odd bounce after a slow-moving turn, bringing in 346 for Modernistic for her troubles. Shiny responded with 453 for Web City on her turn, covering the deficit to give the hosts a narrow lead near the end. Strawberry didn't show enough patience for the Union, her 16 points leaving them with 1258 in the loss that ends their six-game road winning streak. Dani kept it simple with 64 for the Spiders, completing their win at 1365 in the close game. Web City gets closer to an even record with this surge, now at 26-27, while Modernistic drops back to 28-24.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters don't have much hope for the playoffs, and the Waves' chances are waning with every wasted game, which they hope doesn't include this one. Snuggle had a difficult first turn, a deflection ultimately ending it while he had only 126 to start off for Oceanside. Sydney quickly punished the mistake by lashing 600 for Harrison to give the hosts a big lead. Caitlin produced a pitiful 25 for the Waves, deepening the deficit with her awful turn. Twinkie II came up with a nice supporting effort for the Specters, swatting 454 to give their lead a good boost. Celestia had to recover from a swing-and-miss, stopping the ball but missing the swing on the next one to end at 240 for Oceanside. Lexi crushed 1035 for Harrison on her turn, extending their lead to likely unreachable heights at this stage of the game. Dewey had 225 for the Waves, a middling performance that seals their losing score at just 616 total. Sugar supplied another 418 for the Specters at the end, icing the winning score at 2507. Harrison's huge win gets them to 20-34, while Oceanside is 26-30 with the loss here.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents are hoping to strengthen their grip on a playoff spot when they host a recently-unsteady Knights team. Kiwi had another bad start on the road for Terrace City this time, accidentally dragging a ball into her wicket to end with only 98 points. Precious could have done more for Pronger, but settled for 339 to give them a modest initial lead. Jennifer brought the Knights offense to life with her 757, smacking them into the lead with the big appearance. Zach couldn't recover all of the damage for the Tridents, scoring 320 on his replay after a technical error voided his first turn. Oreo replied with good form for Terrace City, gathering 382 to keep them firmly in the lead. Spot got caught between forehand and backhand for Pronger, exiting with 312 in a case of slightly diminished returns for the hosts. Stripes clubbed 495 for the Knights in one of her better games, closing their offense at 1732. Potter put the Tridents on his back, rallying with 727 but coming up short as the team lost with 1698. Terrace City's narrow victory brings them to 34-25, while Pronger just slips to 28-25.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The End-To-End Derby is here, as these Eastern Hills rivals meet in a game for bragging rights more than anything else. Juno lined 562 for Stonebridge on the opening turn, a great effort from the captain to make an early impact on the game. Chelsea couldn't manage much on the counterattack for Eastside, taking 194 as the hosts will work from behind in this one. Frosty froze as a ball bounced in a perfectly unreachable arc over her wicket and out of bounds to stall her at 344 for the Wolves. Taylor couldn't bring the Sharks back into the game with her 187, allowing the deficit to grow a bit. Cobalt brought in another even 400 for Stonebridge, giving their lead a nice extension with the effort. Niki made a little bit of progress with 480 for Eastside, but not enough to make a difference this late in the game. Prism wrapped things up with 329 for the Wolves, setting their final score at 1635. Paps couldn't do the comeback for the Sharks, hitting a meager 99 to give them 960 in the loss. Stonebridge had a big win this time, going to 22-32, just a half-game behind Eastside, who are at 22-31.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs' only game this week is a big one, their second of a three-game stand at home coming against a desperate Warriors team looking to build some momentum. Twilight swung her way to 666 for Central, a big turn that gets them off to a devilishly strong lead. Spice chose to accept 432 for Victoria rather than take a replay for a technical error, as she wanted to keep the score close. Dustin nearly doubled the Warriors offense with his turn, cashing in on 642 to give his side a boost. Yekaterina actually managed to recover some of the deficit with 699 for the Spurs. Mario dropped off his team's pace a bit with 343 for Central this time, hoping that he didn't weaken the lead too much. B. Chapman made a push with 575 for Victoria, covering the deficit narrowly to set up a big finish. Gizmo went with pace over longevity to score 334 for the Warriors, leaving them vulnerable at 1985 total. Wario couldn't step up enough for the Spurs, his 200 leaving them short at 1906 total. Central grabs another close win to get to 34-19, while Victoria dips down to 23-30.

That's all for this week of games. There may be cricket on tomorrow before another weekend off, but things should pick up a bit in the next three calendar weeks in terms of getting games played. We will also hit the season's 1000th game next week.
