We're back to start a new week of cricket. For the next three weeks, I'd like to get through week 31 of the season. We begin this week in...
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige come off a bye last week with a doubleheader this week, first hosting a surging Stills side. Easter put in a disappointing performance for Todavía this time, with only a measly 36 to get the game started. Acorn enjoyed a far healthier share of the offense for Lighton, cranking out 601 to give them a substantial lead right at the start. Sierra had no trouble with covering the deficit for the Stills with her 711, but their lead is narrow. Spirit couldn't best her sister's mark, but her 211 did recover the lead for the Prestige at the halfway mark. Sparkles wasted the comeback for Todavía, taking only 55 as they fail to cover the deficit this time. Twinkie I stepped up to pad the Lighton lead with her 584, giving them a bit of a cushion as the final players take their turns. Bells didn't get much for the Stills, her 126 sealing their loss at 928 overall, a disappointing result. Salmo ripped 913 for the Prestige to make it look worse than it was for their visitors as the hosts close on 2309. Lighton rises to 26-33, while Todavía is down to 31-24.
Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves are the lucky team that gets to host the Prestige in the second game of their doubleheader, although their offense is clicking well right now. Acorn struggled this time for Lighton, pulling in only 112 in a difficult outing for the captain. Juno buried that attack with a much better one for Stonebridge, lining 654 to give them a hefty lead initially. Spirit crushed 1028 for the Prestige in response, pulling them ahead with the gargantuan effort. Frosty clobbered 940 for the Wolves, regaining only a slightly smaller lead at the midway point of this competitive game. Twinkie I fired back with 840 for Lighton, putting them ahead at least temporarily with her good performance. Cobalt couldn't cover the deficit for Stonebridge this time, falling short at 305 as the hosts face a small deficit late in the game. Salmo didn't inspire a lot of confidence for the Prestige with his 186, leaving them at 2166 for the game. Prism stood her ground well with 407 for the Wolves, bringing their final to a victorious 2306. Stonebridge jumps up to 23-32, while Lighton slips to 26-34.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades inch closer to clinching if they can keep winning, but the Meteors have been flying high in a late surge toward the playoffs. Mams played a solid opening turn for Viewpoint Sound, racking up 450 to begin the game. Snowball countered effectively for Swordpoint, grabbing 535 to give them a slight lead at the start. Hoot had only 140 for the Meteors on his turn, spiking a ball backwards in a desperate attempt to keep the effort going. Dreamy added a little padding to the lead for the Blades with her 449, keeping their lead healthy. Nibbles found a very productive groove to ride for Viewpoint Sound, hauling in a big 757 to cover the deficit. Bandit picked a bad time to extend his slump for Swordpoint, taking a paltry 120 as they face a late deficit. Dominic added another big bundle for the Meteors, giving them 570 individually for a total of 1917. Stealth saved the day with 1192 for the Blades, more than doubling their offense as they win with 2296. Swordpoint luckily rises to 43-20, while Viewpoint Sound takes a knock down to 23-26 with the sudden loss.
FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks play the third of a four-game home stand, looking to spoil things for the Shores, who are in the second of a five-game road trip. Bear had a solid performance for Whitewater to start things off, collecting 407 for them to build upon later. Chelsea also hit decently for Eastside, giving them a narrow lead with her 438 on the first turn for the hosts. Twinkie III got too lazy with her swing, curling a ball up and out of play at only 64 for the Shores. Taylor didn't add an overwhelming amount to the Sharks offense, contributing a middling 248 instead. Marsell had a decent rebound from his rough outing last time, taking 305 to cover the deficit for Whitewater. Niki confirmed this game's low-scoring status when she struck a ball too high and ended at a measly 25 for Eastside. The next turn saw the Shores get a huge boost with Shaggy pounding 970 to give them a total of 1746 that might not be matched given the pace of this game. Paps put in a good effort with 474 for the Sharks, but they lost with 1185, unable to adjust to the sudden surge. Whitewater is up to 27-18, while Eastside sinks to 22-32.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige's faint hopes of a surge get a boost when the Crowns come to town in the second of their four-game road trip. Nightfur had a reasonable opening turn for Royal with 415, giving them something to work with initially against an in-form opponent. Acorn's recent run of home form came crashing down in this game, as he hit a pathetic 42 to set Lighton off slowly. Jake made a much stronger second attack for the Crowns, unleashing 664 to greatly pad their lead. Spirit put a bit of a dent in the deficit with 791 for the Prestige, but the hosts remains behind for now. Kayla chipped in with a decent 343 for Royal, hoping to give their lead a bit more stability. Twinkie I made another cut into the deficit for Lighton, digging in with 506 to get within striking distance with a player each to go. Hannah surprised everyone with 826 for the Crowns, erasing most of the comeback as the visitors finish with 2248 overall. Salmo could not pull out a big enough rally for the Prestige, his 337 leaving them at 1676 in the loss. Royal put in quite the stunner victory, going to 16-36, while Lighton is 26-35, and almost assuredly out of the playoff picture realistically.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Each team is in their third of six (at home for the Surfers, on the road for the Meteors) in this critical Coastal Divisional battle on the bubble. Mams finally fell out of form on the road for Viewpoint Sound, only able to produce 90 to lead off this game. Watermelon pummeled 673 for Pearl in response, giving them a sturdy lead at the start. Hoot couldn't cover the deficit for the Meteors going the other way, as he took 391 in a still-decent performance. Neopolitan lost a bit of ground for the Surfers with her 256, weakening their lead halfway through the game. Nibbles matched that attack exactly for Viewpoint Sound, taking 256 to keep the deficit steady for now. Boots blasted 1047 for Pearl on her turn, a huge boost that should put their lead into the comfortable range this late in the game. Dominic had a terrible pace that weighed his turn down at 199, leaving the Meteors far short at 936. Wings tacked on another 352 for the Surfers at the end, icing their win at 2328. Pearl gets the critical win to get to 31-27, while Viewpoint Sound is 23-27, ending at 3-7 in the Coastal Divisional.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters return home to begin a three-game home stand against the Shores, who play in their third of a five-game road trip. Bear lifted his last swing a bit too much, falling instead at 264 for Whitewater despite his solid pace earlier. Chris did enough for Capital City to earn the first lead, striking a decent 405 to put them ahead. Twinkie III got the Shores back into the game, swatting 562 in a great appearance. Missy fought it off with 448 for the Sharpshooters, keeping them narrowly in the lead at the halfway mark of the game. Marsell smashed 821 for Whitewater on the next turn, lifting them far ahead of their hosts in the epic appearance. Sprinkles tried to pull back for Capital City with 531, but the hosts are still a bit behind with the final players stepping up to bat. Shaggy took an optional replay for a technical error, but the second try lost points and she had to take 144 to give the Shores an overall score of 1791. Nicole couldn't complete the comeback for the Sharpshooters, ending at 295 to give them a losing total of 1679. Whitewater sneaks away with another win to go to 28-18, while Capital City is down to 27-30.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers play their fourth of a six-game home stand now, while the Nighthawks wrap up their last set of consecutive road games. Peach launched 810 for North Modernistic at the very start, a massive opening effort for the visitors. Watermelon sent a ball a bit too high, all to avoid a deflection play. Intent aside, she hit only 319 for Pearl to start off. Luigi wasted the chance to extend the Nighthawks lead, instead hitting a meager 51 in a quick exit. Neopolitan did well with 471 for the Surfers in response, shrinking the deficit significantly. Cheddar paddled 576 for North Modernistic in a hasty attempt to get them out of reach of the hosts. Boots tracked her down anyway for Pearl, drilling 687 to give them a narrow lead with a player each to go. Bright set a high standard for the Nighthawks, rallying his way to 624 to give the visitors a final score of 2061. Wings couldn't call his brother's attack, taking only 108 for the Surfers as they lost with 1585. North Modernistic gets a valuable win coming out of a bye week, rising to 28-27, while Pearl is down to 31-28.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds end a pair of games at home, trying to spoil the positive momentum built up by the Spiders. Shadow sliced 716 for Web City right at the start of the game, setting the tone quite well for the surging visitors. Princess didn't even close to matching that, taking a poor 46 for Tysini in a dud of a turn by the captain. Ted had a decent turn going until a ball skipped up behind him, and his backhand attempt didn't have enough leverage to stop him from bowing out at 304. Leandra got the Hummingbirds back into the fight with her 674, keeping them in striking distance. Shiny has found her form at the best time of the season, slugging 1216 for Web City to give them massive lead. Charli's mini-slump continued for Tysini in this game, as she picked up only 215 to keep her team at a deep deficit. Dani tapped 272 for the Spiders at the end, sealing their final score at 2508 in what should be a win. Brownie couldn't recover enough for the Hummingbirds, her 287 leaving them at 1222 in the loss. Web City has gotten to an even record, somewhat improbably, going to 27-27, while Tysini is down to 22-32.
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows face a stiff challenge to their recent rise in the standings, as the Blades can clinch a playoff spot if they can get this road win. Snowball wasted no time for Swordpoint, churning out 657 to give them a strong lead from the opening swing of the game. Sally kept pace for Archtown, leading off the last of their six-game home stand with 692 to give the hosts a lead. Dreamy got badly misplayed on a deflection for the Blades, popping up her final swing to end at 240. Her younger cousin, Sleepy B., countered with 544 to give the Arrows a noticeable lead. Bandit couldn't cover the deficit for Swordpoint, taking a low pace at 215 in a poor turn from the exhausted rookie. Ruby struck another 511 for Archtown, extending their lead once again in a bold team performance. Stealth couldn't form a comeback for the Blades, his 441 giving them 1553 total in a rare loss. Dusky made a quick exit with 111 for the Arrows, icing their win at 1858. Archtown showed very well in a big game, rising to 29-27 with the impressive win, while bumping Swordpoint down to 43-21, just a notch out of first place.
HP Field, Midland: The Predators make an increasingly rare stop at home to host the Meteors, who play their fourth of a six-game road trip and their third in this segment. Mams had a pretty mild start for Viewpoint Sound this time, her 245 falling in a range of indifference. Shawn answered with a better 432 for Midland, giving them a slight advantage initially in this game. Hoot replied with even more strength for the Meteors, scooping up 543 to give them a better lead in the second turn. Rainmane couldn't keep a handle on a ball that got behind her, ending her turn at 157 for the trailing Predators. Nibbles didn't let up at all for Viewpoint Sound, hitting 527 to give their lead a nice boost. Leonardo tried to scrabble back into the game, but his 518 didn't make much of an impact on the deficit. Dominic chipped in with a decent 369 at the end for the Meteors, setting their final score at 1684, which isn't totally safe. Fuchsia couldn't break her slump this time, ending on a paltry 84 as the Predators take the loss with 1191. Viewpoint Sound had a nice rebound win to get to 24-27, while Midland is down to 33-22 with this loss.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves make a quick stopover at home for an Aquatic Derby battle against the Shores, who are in the fourth of their five-game road trip after a busy segment. Bear didn't get much done on the opening attack for Whitewater, tapping a weak 129. Snuggle seemed to have a more confident swing, but one hit got away from him, and he also scored 129 for Oceanside to keep it even initially. Twinkie III also showed too much eagerness for the Shores, crashing out at a poor 84. Caitlin held on a bit longer for the Waves, grabbing 187 to give them a lead in this pitifully low-scoring battle. Marsell broke out a bit more with 217 for Whitewater, but the funk of poor offense hasn't lifted. Celestia finally found a respectable score, giving Oceanside a large lead in the context of the game with her 525. Shaggy had only 160 for the Shores, ending their terrible performance at 590 overall. Dewey had only 5 points for the Waves in an appropriately awful finish, but they still won with 846. Oceanside's surprising win gets them to 27-30, while Whitewater will need to erase this one from memory as they fall to 28-19.
That's all for this segment of cricket. We should be back with another one tomorrow night.
