United Cup Knockout Stages - Quarterfinals

We're back today with eight more games of cricket, featuring both legs of the Quarterfinals series. First up...

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers are onto the Quarterfinals, sitting Slinks while the visiting Cascades give their captain a game off with Jasmine on the bench. Stinky lifted 886 right away for Freedom, keeping their hopes up early in this series. Misty fired back with a massive 1297 for Westside, giving the hosts the lead with another fiery turn. Roxy answered with 535 for the Cascades, covering the deficit lightly on this second attack. Goatee kept the Rockers going forward with 711 on her turn, extending their lead halfway through the high-scoring game. Nikolai picked up 441 for Freedom this time, unable to regain a small lead for the visitors. Midnight slipped up with only 42 for Westside, leaving them vulnerable heading into the final players' turns. Stripes picked up 384 for the Cascades at the end, forcing the hosts to reply to a final score of 2246. Cowzart gained 378 for the Rockers, icing their offense at 2428. Westside leads by 182 points as they leave home.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers have Boots on the bench for the first leg, while the Select-leading Defenders put Hughbert on the bench this time. Bianca had some issues with deflections late in her turn, ending at 450 to get Southridge started. Watermelon didn't get all the way back into form for Pearl, but her 679 gave them a lead on the first turn. Debby tried to block a ball, but it forced itself over her bat, stalling her turn at 192 for the Defenders. Neopolitan batted 520 for the Surfers, extending their lead nicely at the midway point. Stephanie got jammed at 195 for Southridge, causing the deficit between the teams to grow. Bright matched the lead-off hitter for Pearl, corralling 679 in another strong boost of the lead. Caitlin mitigated some of the damage with 504 for Southridge, but they lost with a total of 1341, their first defeat in the competition. Beth tapped 112 to give the Surfers a winning final score at 1990, giving them an advantage of 649 points heading into the second leg.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: This particular Northeastern Derby gets a cup competition taste, as the Lumberjacks sit Summer and the Warriors bench Noelle in the first leg game. Whiskers made a mess of her turn, barely earning a false start replay that yielded only 156 for Maplewood. Twilight managed just 69 for Central this time, getting the rivalry series off to a slow start. Diddley didn't do much better with 185 for the Lumberjacks, but he showed a bit of promise in the attack. Dustin curled a number of swings around the boundary, but ended on a technical replay at 398 to pull the Warriors ahead. Bryant had only 92 for Maplewood on his turn, damaging their hopes of a comeback. Mario found groove and rode it to 953 for Central, putting them far ahead with a player each to go in this one. Gabe fell with 209 on a deflection for the Lumberjacks, putting their final at 642 in an ugly follow-up to their last effort. Wings had 456 for the Warriors in a strong turn, giving them a total of 1876. Central is in great shape for the second leg, leading by 1234 points.

Amazon Field, Golden: The highest-quality series of the round sees the Pilots put Strut on the bench, while the Torpedoes sit Mr. Snowman for his struggles on the road all season. Smudge had trouble with some bounces, gaining 181 for Infinity in a rough first turn for the visitors. Valencia ripped 882 for Golden, surviving a flurry at the start before settling in to build a big lead. Fluffina bobbled her way to 39 for the Torpedoes, their offense cratering against a strong foe. Dusty launched another 696 for the Pilots on the second attack, boosting their lead immensely with the effort. Solaris suffered a deflection at 106 for Infinity, pinning them even farther behind now. Sparkles tacked on 564 as Golden continues to cruise through this game without trouble. Shelley looked alright with 292 for the Torpedoes, but they had a hard loss at 618. A. Charlton shot back with 584 for the Pilots, capping their massive win at 2726, leading by 2108 heading into the second leg.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders have some work to do against the Surfers, with the former sitting Stephanie while the latter gives Beth the game off. Boots had a decent 288 for Pearl to begin the game. Bianca made a rally with 646 for Southridge on their opening turn, erasing most of the series deficit in the process. Watermelon replied with 509 for the Surfers, offsetting a good amount of the damage to keep their series lead steady. Debby lost ground with 381 for the Defenders, who are still in range to mount a comeback under the right circumstances. Neopolitan had just 253 for Pearl, potentially leaving them exposed again. Caitlin made a rally with 635 for Southridge, gaining ground as the final players come to bat. Bright smashed 1004 for the Surfers at the end, capping their offense at 2054, good for a grand total of 4044. Hughbert had good pace for his turn, but 495 left the Defenders at a total of 2157 in the game and 3498 overall. Split results see the Pearl Surfers through to the Semifinals in tomorrow's session.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks have quite a deficit to make up, sitting Bryant, while the visiting Warriors try to see out the series with their captain Twilight getting rest. Dustin set the tone well with 554 for Central, making the mountain a little steeper for the hosts. Whiskers lined 674 for Maplewood on their first turn, putting them ahead for the game while topping their entire offense from leg one. Mario poked a mediocre 240 for the Warriors on the second attack, putting them on cruise for the game. Diddley continued to attack with 592 for the Lumberjacks, who are taking a run at the opposition in leg two. Wings knocked 439 for Central, steadying their series lead against a fierce attack from the hosts. Gabe slipped up with a quick swing at 312 for Maplewood, losing a bit of ground late. Noelle tacked on 537 at the end for the Warriors, their game score stalling at 1770 while they close with 3646 in the series. Summer had only 264 as the Lumberjacks' journey ends with 1842 to win the game, but a series score of 2484 falling far short. Central's hefty points advantage from leg one sees them off to the Semifinals against the Pearl Surfers.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The one series that was close after leg one returns for an exciting finish, with the Cascades sitting Nikolai while the Rockers go all out by benching Cowzart. Misty chose a bad time to take a stumble out of form, ending with a mere 161 for Westside to start off this game. Jasmine hauled in 519 for Freedom on their first turn, putting them ahead in the series as well. Goatee went with 472 for the Rockers, covering the deficit in the game. Stinky lost ground with 311 for the Cascades, making it a close game again at the halfway mark. Slinks fought it off with 368 for Westside, regaining the lead in the game at least temporarily. Roxy got beat on a deflection at 81 for Freedom, greatly damaging their chances of advancing late in the game. Midnight popped 608 for the Rockers at the end of their game, putting their final at 1609 for a total of 4037 across the two legs. Stripes went with 624 for the Cascades at the end, closing their offense at 1535 for the game and 3781 for the series, both losses. Westside gets the sweep to punch their ticket to the Semifinals.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The final game of the Quarterfinals is here, with the Pilots looking to protect a massive lead with Dusty on the bench, while Fluffina's performance earns her a game off as the Torpedoes hope for a miracle. Valencia slashed 690 for Golden on the first turn of the game, keeping up their earlier pace. Smudge tried to keep the game close if nothing else, replying with 616 for Infinity. Strut got tangled up and exited with 289 for the Pilots on the second attack. Solaris pulled the Torpedoes ahead with 424, giving them a lead at the midway point. Sparkles decided to ease up for Golden, taking only 51 points on her turn. Shelley was worse with a lousy 33 for Infinity as it appears both teams are trying to hurry things up. A. Charlton tapped 135 for the Pilots at the end, putting their game total at 1165 for a grand total of 3891. Mr. Snowman took some pride with 450 for the Torpedoes, earning a game win at 1523, a hollow victory as they got crushed in the series with a total of 2141. Golden will host the Westside Rockers in the Semifinals.

That's all for the Quarterfinals. Tomorrow, the United Cup ends with the Semifinals in the morning and the medal rounds in the afternoon.
