United Cup Knockout Stages - Semifinals & Medal Rounds

We're back for the final push of United Cup action, with the Semifinals in the first four games today and the Third-Place Series taking place after that, before wrapping up with the Final Series. We begin with...

Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots are the current favorite for United Cup glory, and sit A. Charlton for leg one against a Premier rival, the Rockers, who have Cowzart on the bench this time. Misty started out well with 907 for Westside on the first turn, setting them up well initially. Valencia shot back with 624 for Golden in response, keeping the hosts close against a formidable foe. Goatee scooped up 480 for the Rockers on the second attack, a good outing for the veteran. Dusty gained some ground with 550 for the Pilots, but they are still slightly behind at the midway mark. Slinks shot back with 682 for Westside, keeping them on the cutting edge of offense so far. Strut cracked at only 12 points for Golden, sending them into a deep deficit late in the game. Midnight pummeled 552 for the Rockers at the end, giving them a total of 2621 for the game. Sparkles picked up just 280 for the Pilots, who take a hard loss at 1466. Westside leads by 1155 heading into the second leg at home against a team they've lost to just once this year.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors have Mario on the bench for rest in leg one against the only non-Premier team remaining, the Surfers, who sit Boots this time out. Watermelon had yet another big turn with 648 for Pearl to open the scoring, pressuring the hosts immediately. Twilight kept things close, slicing 639 on an aggressive but strong turn for Central. Neopolitan tapped 225 for the Surfers on the second attack, weakening their lead dramatically. Dustin ripped 801 for the Warriors, pulling them into a big lead halfway through the game. Bright got beat on a deflection at 128 for Pearl, making their situation even worse. Wings bested his brother and his former team with 670 for Central in his first meeting with the only other franchise he's known prior to this season. Beth had a middling 200 for the Surfers, leaving their losing total at 1201. Noelle had 395 in a solid finish for the Warriors, who close at 2505 in a massive win of 1304 points. Central has a hefty advantage heading on the road.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers look to protect a large lead with Goatee on the bench for rest, while the Pilots boldly sit Strut after a dud effort in the first leg. Valencia began with 424 for Golden this time, a solid performance to begin the game. Misty couldn't clear a ball after a technical error, watching her scoring crater to 461 as Westside gains a small lead in the game. Dusty regained the lead for the Pilots with her 563, but the series is still well out of reach. Slinks lost some ground with only 204 for the Rockers, but they are not in danger yet. Sparkles picked up 351 in an attempt to keep Golden going as the game progresses. Midnight covered that damage with 361 for Westside, keeping them in control of the series even as leg two slips away. A. Charlton confirmed the Pilots' defeat in the series with only 145 on her turn, leaving them at 1483 in the game and 2949 overall. Cowzart hammered 690 for the Rockers to give them a clean sweep, winning the game at 1716 and the series at 4337 total points.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers have a steep hill to climb at home, sitting Neopolitan to do so, while the visiting Warriors sit Dustin for rest, satisfied in their leg one effort. Twilight provided another 512 for Central at the start, a great turn from the captain. Boots used a third attempt after a technical error and a false start to record 529 for Pearl. Mario took a modest 260 for the Warriors, going under the advice not to exert too much effort in this game. Watermelon attack with 650 for the Surfers here, carving out about one-third of the deficit. Wings pulled back with 445 for Central, keeping the visitors strongly ahead on series points. Bright shot back with 328 against his brother, but Pearl is still trailing in the series despite leading this game. Noelle capped the effort with 256 for the Warriors, leaving them at 1473 for a total of 3978 in the series. Beth made some progress with 447, giving the Surfers a game win with 1954 but a series loss at 3155.

Amazon Field, Golden: The battle for third place in the United Cup is on. Valencia sits out leg one for the Pilots, while the Surfers leave Watermelon at home. Boots started out a bit aggressively with 607 for Pearl, showing that the Elite team will take this series seriously. Dusty answered with 439 for Golden this time, keeping them a little behind initially. Neopolitan took a hit at 208 for the Surfers, causing their lead to weaken after the poor second attack. Strut struggled again with only 72 for the Pilots, letting the visitors off the hook in this one. Bright produced 393 for Pearl in this match, re-extending their lead with a solid appearance. Sparkles made some progress with 522 for Golden, but they need a bit more if they want to take this game. Beth gathered 359 for the Surfers at the end, capping their offense at 1567. A. Charlton had a poor 58 for the Pilots at the end, giving them the leg one loss at 1091. Pearl heads home with third place in their sights.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Pilots leave Dusty at home for rest in leg two, while the Surfers sit Bright, as his results have started to fade recently. Valencia poked a mild 260 for Golden to lead things off this time, not making much effort to fight for the bronze. Boots had a simple 144, getting beat on a flurry of offerings all at once for Pearl. Strut went with 587 for the Pilots, covering the series deficit with a sudden reawakening of his offense. Watermelon belted another 1068 for the Surfers in this game, clearly the best player in the United Cup competition. Sparkles chipped 224 for Golden in this appearance, unable to counter the big damage they took on the last turn. Neopolitan kept Pearl in control with 336 this time, bringing the fans to their feet. A. Charlton exited with 147 for the Pilots in the end, as they suffered a game loss with 1218 and a total loss at 2309 overall. Beth made a quick exit at 87 for the Surfers, capping this win at 1635 and the series win at 3202 points in the sweep. The Pearl Surfers are thrilled with finishing as bronze medalists in the United Cup, while the Golden Pilots feel they came up short of expectations.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers are set to start off the United Cup Finals at home, sitting Slinks for the first leg, while the Warriors bench Noelle. The teams split results in the regular season. Twilight tried to stagger her swing a bit, but the plan backfired as she fell with 67 on a deflection for Central. Misty answered with a decent 361 to put Westside ahead on the first turn. Dustin faltered at 104 for the Warriors, unable to cover the deficit on this turn. Goatee added 307 for the Rockers, making a modest contribution to their lead halfway through leg one. Mario turned things around with 769 for Central, getting them back in the game while catching the hosts a bit complacent. Midnight fired back with 817 for Westside, fighting off the danger admirably. Wings fell with 599 for the Warriors at the end, closing their leg one offense at 1539. Cowzart hit 423 for the Rockers at the end, their offense finishing ahead at 1908. Westside hits the road ahead by 369 points before the final game.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The United Cup ends here, with the Warriors sitting Noelle again and the Rockers putting Cowzart on the bench. Misty silenced the home fans almost immediately, slugging 1227 to extend Westside's series lead to massive heights. Twilight answered with 448 for Central, a solid outing but not enough for a team running out of time to catch up. Goatee tacked on another 828 for the Rockers on the second attack, making a counterattack even less likely. Dustin refused to go quietly with 1569 for the Warriors, just about evening the second leg scoring. Slinks stumbled at 208 for Westside, leaving them vulnerable in the game. Mario made up some ground with 361 for Central, but they need more than that with just a player each to go. Midnight drilled 537 for the Rockers, giving them totals of 2800 in the game and 4708 for the series. Wings had just 171 for the Warriors, costing them the game at 2549 and the series at 4088 in a sweep for Westside. The Rockers are the first-ever United Cup Champions.

At the postgame ceremony, Misty was named the recipient of the Matthew Hayden Trophy, in honor of the United Cup MVP. Across her ten games, she averaged 701 points per game, a staple in the lineup. The Central Warriors took second place, and the Pearl Surfers are the bronze medalists.
