United Cup Knockout Stages - Round 1 Leg 2

The battle lines are drawn heading into the second leg of each first round series. We begin today's eight-game slate with...

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige try to overcome a large deficit against the Pilots, with the hosts sitting Katelynn and the visitors benching a tired Sparkles. Valencia got off to a strong start with 536 for Golden, going at a slow pace for a long time. Acorn had a good pace going for Lighton, but a bad swing downed him at 416. Dusty had only 162 for the Pilots on the second attack, weakening their lead a bit in the process. Spirit made progress with 269 for the Prestige, making it a close game at the halfway mark but cursing a deflection that ended her turn early. Strut couldn't get Golden's offense into gear, taking 253 in a defensive turn to protect their series lead. Nicole pulled Lighton ahead for the game with 312, but they remain behind by a large margin late in the series. A. Charlton likely confirmed the Pilots' advancement with 891 individually for a game total of 1842 and an overall score of 4311. Waluigi had a decent 335 for the Prestige, but they lost with 1332 in the game and 3102 in the series. Golden will be hosting first in the Quarterfinals against a team to be named.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves have their captain Snuggle resting after appearing twice yesterday in pool, while the Rockers look to secure this series with Cowzart on the bench. Misty crushed 1717 for Westside to open the scoring, outscoring their entire first leg effort. Westside immediately changed their roster to bench Midnight for rest. Celestia made the most of a bad situation, using her optional replay to churn out 911 for Oceanside. Goatee shot back with 543 for the Rockers, making a strong addition to their lead. Josie fell at only 150 for the Waves, halting their comeback quickly. Slinks had a middling 241 for Westside, but they remain comfortably ahead. Dewey gained 424 for Oceanside, making a tiny bit of progress against the deficit late in the game. Cowzart slashed 551 for the Rockers at the end, capping their wins at 3052 for the game and 4454 for the series. Jason V. hit 314 with good pace for the Waves, leaving them to lose with 1799 in the game and 2878 overall. Westside did well to advance with the sweep, awaiting their opponent for the next round.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders hold a timid lead in the series, benching their captain Debby, while the visiting Shores put Katharine on the bench in this second leg. Bear showed some menace in his attack for Whitewater, grabbing 519 to give them a good lead in the game. Bianca ceded only a single point, answering with 518 as Southridge stays in the fight early on. Twinkie III replied with 503 for the Shores, reaffirming their intent to compete in the game. Stephanie faltered with 281 for the Defenders, their series lead quickly shrinking as they fall behind in the game. Marsell wasted the chance to build for Whitewater, his 258 putting them in a tough position once again. Caitlin exploded with 783 for Southridge, striking at the perfect moment to shatter the confidence of the visitors. Shaggy couldn't stop a ball that got over her bat, ending her turn at 262 as the Shores fell with 1542 in the game and 3029 overall. Hughbert poked 96 at the end for the Defenders, giving them a total of 1678 in the game while winning the series at 3451. Southridge got by on thin margins in both games, and will host the second leg of their Quarterfinals series.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Both teams are at full strength in a close series. The hosts sit Pauline, while Wings is on the bench for the visitors as they try to make up 42 points. Twilight had a sloppy 202 for Central at the start, unable to keep her swing in form for long. Chris had only 51 for Capital City on the first turn, putting them behind in the series on points. Dustin poked another 274 for the Warriors, unable to build a more stable lead on the second attack. Missy failed the Sharpshooters with 130 on her turn, another hit for them to take as they try to recover later. Mario went off with 784 for Central, further damaging the chances of a comeback for the hosts. Sprinkles offset that damage with 793 for Capital City, leaving them with plenty of work to do on the final turn. Noelle kept going after a controversially close call at the back 4s, earning 208 for the Warriors to close their score at 1468 in the game and 3923 overall. Lorde nabbed 400 for the Sharpshooters at the end, giving them a total of 1374 in the loss, and 3871 in a 52-point series loss on split results. Central's nail-biter has them into the Quarterfinals.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers will protect their big lead with Bright on the bench, while the visiting Eagles don't seem inclined to follow up as Goldy rests this time. Puff III picked up 441 for Everton on the opening turn, a solid performance from the recently struggling veteran. Boots hooked a backhand swing but then missed the next offering, falling with 314 for Pearl as they start from behind. Cleo kept the Eagles at a similar pace on the second attack, scoring a good 439. Watermelon fell at 132 for the Surfers, weakening their lead again as her form craters. Kirstin had only 264 for Everton this time, potentially leaving the door open again. Neopolitan made a push with 640 for Pearl, closing the cap a bit more as the final players come to bat. Blizzard fell apart at 151 for the Eagles, leaving their final score at 1295 for a total of 2479 as they fail to even meet the initial total. Beth gained 263 for the Surfers to cap their offense at 1349 in the game and a series total of 3991 in the sweep. Pearl will play host to the Select leading Southridge Defenders in the Quarterfinals.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes have a nice lead already, and will sit an inconsistent Fluffina against the Predators, who have their captain Shawn on the bench. Rainmane put out a challenge immediately, smacking 769 for Midland on the opening turn. Smudge fired back with an emphatic 850 for Infinity, giving them a lead in the game. Leonardo faltered with 168 for the Predators, damaging their comeback efforts on a poor second attack. Solaris showed no fear with 662 for the Torpedoes, a great supporting attack to keep them in control of everything. Americus replied with 496 for Midland, a good performance on its own but not enough for this situation. Shelley lost a bit of ground with only 272 for Infinity, but they remain firmly ahead where it matters. Fuchsia tried to rally, falling with 328 as the Predators lose the game on 1761 and the series at 2786. Mr. Snowman dropped at 208 as the Torpedoes finished the game with 1992 and the series sweep at 3422. Infinity will be hosting the second leg against the Golden Pilots in the Quarterfinals.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades are halfway home, but their lead is far from comfortable as they sit Stripes against a Blades team choosing to bench Bandit in this meeting. Snowball set the tone well with 515 for Swordpoint, covering the series deficit for now. Jasmine answered with only 267 for Freedom, unable to regain the series points lead on the first turn here. Dreamy countered with 774 for the Blades, a massive turn to build up their lead to great heights. Stinky got some of it back with 519 for the Cascades, but the hosts are still behind and beginning to panic. Stealth had a good pace but a short turn with 276 for Swordpoint, leaving them a bit exposed for now. Roxy made the pressure mount with 706, making it a very close game and likewise a close series. Jason N. produced 423 for the Blades at the end, icing their game at 1988 and their series at 3451. Nikolai made it incredibly close with 354 for the Cascades, their final score in the game being a loss with 1846 while their series score 3466 put them through by just 15 points. Freedom's razor-thin margin sees them square off with the Westside Rockers in the Quarterfinals.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The final series sees the Lumberjacks within striking distance of the Swifts. The hosts have Diddley on the bench, while Ice Cream rests from a pool appearance for the visitors. Patches started off pretty well with 520 for Boston, the solid opening turn padding their series lead. Whiskers fired back with 480 for Maplewood, keeping them within striking distance. Puff II slipped up at 117 for the Swifts, leaving them vulnerable. Bryant pretty much made up the series deficit with 290 for the Lumberjacks, setting up a drag race in the back half of this game. Gradley had a middling 245 for Boston on his turn, weakening their lead a bit more with the mediocre turn. Gabe lost ground with 240 for Maplewood, but only a small amount as the final players come to bat. Sweetheart had just 102 after a deflection cut her down, giving the Swifts a game total of 984 and a total of 2914 in the series. Summer poked 153 to make the Lumberjacks giant killers, giving them a winning final of 1163, while 2948 in the series is enough to advance on split results. Maplewood has a Northeastern rivalry match with the Central Warriors ahead in the Quarterfinals.

A stunning finish sets up the second round, which will be played in full tomorrow.
