Qualifying season for Tournament 2019 has arrived. We aim to play 50 games a day for 31 days, followed by a special 70-game finale on the 32nd day. The honors of going first belong to...
Capital City Sharpshooters veteran Sprinkles, who plays her 7-ball this year with the silver cue. Sprinkles had an empty break but made the 1-7 combination to the top right on the next shot, scoring 1 shot with no errors. The Tysini Hummingbirds' Charli goes second, using the blue cue. Charli did make a ball on the break, but she scratched twice to account for two errors over her 12 shots in the game. The Web City Spiders' Ted gets the next game, using the red cue for its qualifying debut this year. Ted had a ball on the break, but things turned ugly after he made the 2. His chase on the 3 and 5 lengthened the game to 16 shots, although he avoided any errors. Cowzart makes his pool debut for the Pacific Volcanoes using the blue cue. Cowzart nearly sent the cue off the table on his empty break, and while he positioned well, he ended with 15 shots and no errors as the early players are generally struggling. Oreo keeps the blue cue at the table, as the Terrace City Knights veteran closes the first group. Oreo had a ball fall late on the break, and she completed the turn in 11 shots with one error after a close call with illegal contact on the 5.
Group two begins with the silver cue returning to the table with Central Warriors veteran Wings. After making a ball on the break, Wings had a scratch early in the turn, but still ended with 10 shots and just the one error. Web City Spiders newcomer Avril keeps the silver cue in action here. Avril had nothing on the break but somehow avoided errors in a trying start before closing strong at 13 shots. Taylor M. is the first rookie to debut, as the Eastside Sharks' first-year uses the blue cue. Taylor didn't pot the balls as fast as she wanted, but she had a ball on the break and no errors over her 11 shots for a reasonable debut. The ninth player of the day is Southern Monarchs captain Panda, making his season debut with the red cue. Panda made a mess of his game, starting well despite the empty break but flubbing multiple late shots to end with 14 and no errors. Ending the batch, Shadow makes his Diamond Gems debut with the silver cue. Shadow had an empty break and chased the 1 for a bit before using it as a deflector to double-pot the 2 to the bottom left and the 7 at the top side. Shadow had 3 shots and no errors in a great game.
Isabella leads off the third group, as the Atlantic Pirates' rising star tries to get the red cue on track. She did well with that goal, going empty on the break and taking one error on an early scratch, but shutting the door in 9 shots. Maplewood Lumberjacks veteran Bryant gets the next game, using the blue cue. Bryant made a pair of balls on the break and erred on his first counted shot, but then closed the game out early with a 6-7 combination to the top left. Bryant tallied 7 shots and one error. Mitchell keeps the blue cue in action for his Victoria Spurs debut. This group continued to excel, as Mitchell overcame an empty break and an early error, his only one, to finish the effort in 10 shots. The blue cue stays up as Mr. Snowman of the Infinity Torpedoes makes his season debut. Mr. Snowman struggled with an empty break and one error, eventually closing the turn at 16 shots. The Victoria Spurs' Strawberry brings the red cue around to wrap up this group. Strawberry had great success, making a ball on the break and converting the rest of the rack in 7 shots without an error.
The 16th player drawn today is Royal Crowns star Jake, who will debut his season with the blue cue. Strawberry unlocked a preferred spot to break, and Jake used it, striking a ball down and finishing with 7 shots and no errors. Oceanside Waves sophomore Josie takes the next game, also using the blue cue. Josie had two balls on the break, but also took an error for missed contact later on, leading her to finish with 8 shots in a still-good performance. Continuing along, Diamond Gems veteran Pedey makes his season debut with the silver cue. Pedey broke with the breaking convention and still finished his turn in 9 shots without an error after his empty break. Following that, Swordpoint Blades mainstay Dreamy keeps the silver cue in action for her season debut. Dreamy went back to the convention but busted it a bit with an empty break. She kept her turn clean with 9 shots and no errors. The batch finishes as Brownie makes her Royal Crowns debut in pool with the blue cue. Brownie had nothing from the break and made two errors, weighing her total down to 11 shots in a sloppy performance.
Group five kicks off with Chelsea, the Eastside Sharks star, using the blue cue for 7-ball. Chelsea made a pair on the break and went for the quick finish, converting a 1-7 combination to the top left to end on 1 shot and no errors. The 22nd player called on to shoot is the Midland Predators' Fuchsia, who will use the red cue. Fuchsia had a rocky start with a scratch on the break, but it was her only error in 9 shots, ultimately a positive ending to the debut. Infinity Torpedoes star Fluffina keeps the red cue in action as she makes her season debut. Fluffina had a ball on the break, but couldn't make a trick play off the 7. A late scratch was her only error in 11 shots for a decent first qualifier. Jason N. starts his sophomore year with the Atlantic Pirates shooting 7-ball with the blue cue. Jason had nothing on the break but also took no errors while scoring 12 shots for his first game with his new team. Rounding out this group, another Pirate, Isabella, is the first to move to 8-ball, using the red cue. Isabella may have gone empty on the break, but her shooting was superb, as she finished the rack in 18 shots without an error, setting a good standard early in the event.
Batch six sees more 8-ball played by the Predators' Fuchsia, who will use the silver cue. Fuchsia did make a ball on the break, but she recorded two errors in her turn and ended with a fairly standard 24 shots. Back in 7-ball, Bear makes his Everton Eagles pool debut with the silver cue. Bear couldn't get anything to fall on the break, and he finished with a scratch on his final shot, taking 12 shots and one error to begin his career with the Eagles. Bianca keeps the silver cue in action as the Southridge Defenders youngster plays her 7-ball game. Bianca made three balls while scratching on the break, and then finished with 4 shots to her name on a deflection off the 6 to pot the 7 in the top left. The 29th game of the day goes to the North Modernistic Nighthawks' Luigi for his season debut. Luigi had the first off-the-break finish here, getting the 6 in the bottom right and the 7 in the top left to score 0 shots and zero errors. The Waves' Josie finishes this group with her 8-ball qualifier using the silver cue. Josie ripped three balls and a scratch on the break, and didn't slow down from there. She ended up with three errors but only 17 shots in a quick turn.
The seventh group gets going as the Spiders' Ted returns to action with the red cue in 8-ball. Ted had nothing on the break in game 1 and he struggled to string shots together. He had one error for a scratch, finishing the game with 21 shots, a decent outing. The red cue stays in action for Capital City Sharpshooters veteran Missy making her season debut in 7-ball. Missy had nothing from her break, but she got through the rack with relative ease, recording 10 shots without an error in a standard game. Another red cue game is for the Freedom Cascades' Nikolai to make his season debut. Nikolai did about as well, also taking an empty break. He had one error for missed contact, but finished strong on a three-ball run to end with 10 shots. Terrace City Knights sophomore Melissa is the next player drawn, using the silver cue in her 7-ball game. Melissa broke from a hard left spot, making a ball on the break and dropping the rest of the rack in 8 shots with no errors. The group ends with Diamond Gems captain Smokey debuting with the silver cue. Smokey made a pair of balls on the break and didn't stop there, converting the rest of the rack in 5 shots with zero errors.
Group eight opens with Crystal, the Queens Flames captain, debuting with the blue cue. Crystal couldn't get anything to drop, and just barely avoided errors in her 12 shots, which marked a difficult game. Another captain, the Pronger Tridents' Precious, debuts for the season with the red cue in the 37th game of the day. Precious made a ball on the break, but had a missed contact scratch that counted for her two errors in 10 shots, a good performance on the whole with some obvious flaws. Whitewater Shores rising star Marsell will try to start well as he debuts with the blue cue. Marsell couldn't make anything on the break, and a kick shot led to his two errors for illegal contact and a scratch, but he closed at 11 shots total. Up next, Lighton Prestige star Spirit makes her season debut with the silver cue. Spirit had nothing on the break, but she maneuvered well early on before an error, her only one in the game. Spirit then finished with 10 shots. Archtown Arrows captain Sally brings the blue cue back to complete this batch. Sally didn't make a ball on the break this time and finished with 10 shots and no errors, a standard outing.
The 41st player of the day starts group nine, and that is the Infinity Torpedoes' Shelley, who plays 7-ball with the blue cue. Shelley made a ball on the break, but some unfavorable positioning early ran her score up to 11 shots with no errors. Mario gets his Queens Flames debut in the next game, using the red cue. Mario had an empty break, but he double-potted the 1-4 combination at the top right, and then made a double-pot of the 2 and 7 to the right corners to end with 3 shots and no errors in a great effort. Lionel will keep the red cue in action for his first appearance in pool with the North Modernistic Nighthawks. Lionel also had an empty break, but a miracle kick on the 2 limited him to one error over his 10 shots. The Crowns' Jake will step in for his 8-ball with the blue cue in this game. Jake had an empty break, and some struggles with finding his clear shots early on inflated his score to 22 shots. Jake had no errors in this appearance. At the back of the group, Hannah of the Queens Flames keeps the blue cue busy with her season debut. Hannah scratched on the break, but accidentally succeeded on the next shot, deflecting the 1 to the bottom right off the 5 while igniting the 1-5-2-7 combination to the top right. Hannah had 2 shots and one error.
The final group gets going with Oceanside Waves third-year Dewey making his season debut with the blue cue. Dewey kept it simple, starting well after an empty break before fading to 10 shots with no errors in the game. Hoot of the Viewpoint Sound Meteors is next up, his season debut coming with the silver cue. Hoot's break was promising but empty, and he had one error over 16 shots in a poor performance to start his qualifying season. The 48th game today sees the Torpedoes' Shelley return to play 8-ball with the red cue. Shelley's second appearance was much better than the first, taking no errors and an empty break but only 18 shots overall. Moving along, Royal Crowns veteran Kayla plays 7-ball with the silver cue. Kayla had an empty break and played a compact game with one error for illegal contact, finishing with 11 shots. Gizmo of the Eastside Sharks plays today's finale as his season debut with the silver cue. Gizmo had 16 shots with one error after an empty break, ending the day similarly to some of the early performers.
We'll be back at it tomorrow with a day of Premier games in the morning and more qualifying in the afternoon.
