United Cup - First Round, Leg 1

The first games of United Cup action are here. Many teams are well rested, although two Select teams are without players. We begin with...

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems will begin the United Cup while hosting the Union. Ms. Puppy will take rest for the Union, while the Gems sit Katelynn after her recent binge of pool appearances. Daisy began with 422 for Modernistic, a solid start to the game. Shadow had all the pace to be good, but exited early at only 314 for Diamond, causing them to fall behind initially. Puff I crashed out with 32 for the Union, clearly needing the rest that she didn't receive. Smokey answered with 258 for the Gems, doing enough to cover the deficit but not much else. Kodiak exploded with 744 for Modernistic, giving them a more stable lead. Pedey gathered 334 for Diamond on his turn, unable to do much against the steep deficit. Sydney C. chipped in with 324 for the Union, capping their attack at 1522. Leonardo tried to rally but bowed out at 180, leaving the Gems with 1086. Modernistic leads by 436 points heading into leg two, giving them some wiggle room should they fail at home.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors welcome the Arrows in Monday's second game. Nibbles sits for the Meteors, while Hoppy takes the bench for the Arrows. Sally popped 572 for Archtown, overcoming a little fatigue to establish a strong lead. Princess delivered a dud with 18 points for Viewpoint Sound, quickly getting caught on her backhand. Sleepy B. slapped a crisp 590 for the Arrows to double their attack. Hoot had a mediocre 228 for the Meteors, who are looking quite flat in their home leg, which doesn't bode well for them in this competition. Dusky suffered an awkward swing and miss to stick her with just 121 as Archtown has put their offense on cruise. Frosty tried to capitalize with 425 for Viewpoint Sound, but they remain far behind with a player each to go. A. Charlton piled on with 544 for the Arrows, capping their attack at 1827. Dani flipped 289 as the Meteors took a hard loss with 960. Archtown heads home with an 867-point lead and a good chance to advance.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The two shorthanded teams meet for the first leg of their series. The Wolves' Cobalt and the Monarchs' Dominic are out for both games of this series. Mams knocked 529 for Southern in a good start for the visitors. Juno fired back with 859 for Stonebridge to give them an edge after the first turn. Panda took a stumble at 224 for the Monarchs, causing them to fail to cover the deficit. Hershey took 361 for the Wolves, maintaining their lead well at the halfway mark of the game. Pounce pushed forward with 621 for Southern, doing enough to pull them ahead at least temporarily. Wild Thing poked 286 for Stonebridge, making it a close game heading into the final turn. Salmo failed to help the Monarchs, his 57 points leaving them at a loss with 1431. Vladimir didn't help the Wolves much with 103, putting their final score at 1609. Stonebridge has a thin 178-point lead as they head on the road.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The last Select leg one meeting has the Spiders hosting the Sharks. Jack will sit for the hosts, while the visitors rest their captain Graham. Chelsea did well for Eastside until she flubbed her final swing to close with 540 points at the start. Waluigi got about half of it back with 285 for Web City, but they'll need more over the rest of the game. Taylor M. stayed strong with 417 for the Sharks, padding their lead a bit on the second attack. Ted couldn't pull back for the Spiders, falling at 224 in a middling performance. Gizmo flipped 280 for Eastside, adding modestly to their lead at this point. Avril made a little progress with 345 for Web City, but they'll need more on the final turn. Cubby shoved 400 for the Sharks to ice their offense at 1637. Chicky Phil fell at an ugly 100 for the Spiders, sealing their loss with 954. Eastside is up by 683 with their home leg remaining.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades begin their United Cup campaign without their captain, Jasmine, while the Stills sit Prism for the first leg of their series. Ruby cranked out 504 for Todavía, attacking with great pace to establish the lead. Roxy showed a surprisingly poised game with 696 for Freedom, pulling them ahead on the first turn. Sierra got a little jittery for the Stills, closing at 144 as they failed to cover the deficit. Nikolai exploded for 1284 for the Cascades, likely assuring them of at least the victory in the first leg already. Bells flicked 337 for Todavía, but they remain deeply behind in the game. Stripes swatted an even 500 for Freedom to add a little more to their lead. Easter managed only 245 for the Stills, giving them 1230 in a hard loss. Stinky let up with a mere 100 for the Cascades, leaving them at 2580 in the win. Freedom travels with a 1350-point lead, giving them a good chance of advancing.

Sony Stadium, Queens: The visiting Prestige bench their captain Acorn, while the Flames elect to sit Briana for some rest ahead of the second leg. Citrus started with 509 for Lighton, a strong contribution in a rare lead-off appearance for the newcomer. Crystal led off with 836 for Queens, showing no mercy as she prepares her side for a deep United Cup run. Spirit collected 295 for the Prestige, a high hit ending her turn a bit too early to cover the deficit. Violetta did a little better with 385 for the Flames, adding modestly to their lead at the halfway mark. Nicole didn't correct course for Lighton with only 208 on her turn, causing them to fall farther behind. Mario went off with 738 for Queens, doing his part to help secure their advantage. Shiny recorded only 227 for the Prestige, setting their losing final score at 1239. Hannah added 314 at the end to give the Flames 2273 in total. Queens travels with a 1034-point lead.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: Knights captain Kiwi will take rest in the first leg of this series, while Brownie joins her on the bench for the Crowns. Kayla batted 506 for Royal to begin the game, hoping that her side doesn't suffer the same fate as previous visiting teams in similar situations. Jennifer didn't cover the deficit with 387 for Terrace City, the team still looking a bit fatigued despite a week off. Jake replied with 391 for the Crowns to cover the damage done against them. Oreo took an ugly 146 for the Knights, causing them to fall farther behind at the midway mark. Nightfur shaved her turn at 195 for Royal, continuing to play down to the level of their hosts. Quincy finally sparked Terrace City's attack with 736 on his turn, putting them in the lead with a player each to go. Cassie butchered her turn with only 104 after issues with her bat grip, leaving the Crowns at a loss with 1196. Melissa went off with 655 at the end, sealing the Knights' leg one win at 1924. Terrace City turned things around in a hurry to own a 728-point lead heading into their road match.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds are another team resting their captain for leg one, as Tigerette sits out, as does Defenders captain Debby. Bianca had an unsteady start with 250 for Southridge. Solaris didn't do anything differently, ending at 232 as Commerce starts with a small deficit in this game. Stephanie got the Defenders on track with 518 on her turn, a strong appearance on the second attack. Taylor S. replied with 472 for the Tradewinds, again just trailing by a small amount as the hosts keep things close. Wario didn't have a long enough turn to help Southridge, his 271 weakening their lead slightly. Niki made a little progress with 310, but Commerce remains narrowly behind late in the game. Caitlin tallied 373 for the Defenders at the end, capping their offense at 1412. Rosemary pushed at the end with 470 for the Tradewinds, nabbing the win at 1484. Commerce will have to stay sharp, as they only lead by 72 points heading on the road.

That's all for Leg One. The second legs are all scheduled for Wednesday as the league will take a day off from pool to accommodate the decisive matches.
