Qualifiers 2019 - Day 9

The first full day in the 9-ball majority era is here, beginning with...

The Web City Spiders' Ted shooting 13-ball with the silver cue. Ted surprisingly went empty on the break, but many of his shots lined up neatly for him, and he finished with 20 shots and no errors. Maplewood Lumberjacks captain Diddley goes next, using the blue cue for 9-ball. Diddley made a ball on the break and then quickly bounced the 1 off the 5 to tap the 9 into the top right. Diddley closed at 1 shot and no errors in a fantastic outing. Back to a Web City Spider, as Waluigi makes his second appearance with his new team in 8-ball with the silver cue. Waluigi struggled in this appearance, going empty on the break and needing 27 shots with one error to finish the game. The run of Northeast players continued with the Central Warriors' Noelle playing 12-ball with the silver cue. Noelle struggled with nothing on the break and two errors over 25 shots in a mediocre performance. Closing the group, the Swordpoint Blades' Sugar uses the blue cue for 8-ball. Sugar struggled as well, taking three errors after an empty break that ran her score up to 27 shots.

The second group begins with Whitewater Shores captain Shaggy making her season debut in 7-ball with the red cue. Shaggy made a pair on the break and added a tough double-pot later in the game as she scored 8 shots and no errors. Another season debut is next, as the Southern Monarchs' Mams uses the red cue in 7-ball for her first appearance with the team. Mams didn't do as well, taking an empty break, but a late surge limited the damage to 11 shots and no errors. Pronger Tridents third-year Potter takes the eighth game today, using the silver cue for 9-ball. Potter got a ball on the break and took one error early with a scratch, but his shooting was sharp and he cleared the rack in 12 shots. The Lighton Prestige's Citrus goes next with the silver cue in hand for 8-ball. Citrus couldn't break the 8-ball funk, going empty on the break and needing 26 shots without an error after a sloppy late-game effort. Taking us into the morning lunch break, the Web City Spiders' Avril shoots 10-ball with the blue cue. Avril made a ball on the break but suffered two errors in 18 shots in a mixed game.

After the break, the Modernistic Union's Daisy plays 9-ball with the blue cue. Daisy struggled with 19 shots and one error after an empty break, unable to put shots down early before adding some aggression to her play. More 9-ball is on the way for Tysini Hummingbirds newcomer Vincent, who uses the silver cue in the event. Vincent nearly got a ball on the break, but his slow finish and two errors gave him 16 shots in the game. The silver cue stays up as the Pearl Surfers' Bright shoots 10-ball with it. Bright was too loose with his shooting after an empty break, recording 19 shots and three errors. Diamond Gems newcomer Leonardo plays the 14th game today, using the red cue in 8-ball. Leonardo had some good play but still ended up with a fairly average 23 shots and one error in this appearance. Capital City Sharpshooters veteran Sprinkles closes the group with the blue cue in 10-ball. Sprinkles required 21 shots and one error despite making a ball on the break, as the 5 proved difficult for her to corral.

Set four leads off with Stinky of the Freedom Cascades shooting 8-ball with the blue cue. Stinky couldn't get anything on the break, but he closed with 23 shots and only one error despite a rough start. The Southern Monarchs' Dominic takes the next game, using the silver cue in 10-ball. Dominic made a ball on the break and took a couple of double-pots on his 11 shots and no errors. The Spiders' Avril is back in the 18th game of the day, using the blue cue in 12-ball for her second appearance today. Avril looked better in this appearance, making a pair on the break and getting good positioning. She had one error over 21 shots. After that, Everton Eagles star Puff III uses the red cue for 12-ball. Puff III had a ball on the break and two errors in her 21 shots, another strong outing for the star. Atlantic Pirates sophomore Jason N. finishes the group with the blue cue in hand for 10-ball. Jason N. had nothing on the break and three errors, all for illegally potted balls, in 21 shots in a difficult game.

The fifth batch starts as Lionel of the North Modernistic Nighthawks plays 10-ball with the blue cue. Lionel didn't make a ball on the break, but the 1-10 combination lined up for him at the top right and he finished with 1 shot and no errors after converting it. Commerce Tradewinds veteran Taylor S. makes her season debut with the silver cue in 7-ball. Taylor S. needed only 8 shots with no errors despite an empty break, her debut going quite well. Infinity Torpedoes veteran Fluffina continues the day with 12-ball and the blue cue. Fluffina wasted no time in her attack, making the entire rack in 19 shots without an error. More 12-ball follows as the Royal Crowns' Jake uses the silver cue for his turn in the event. Jake made a ball on the break and struck quickly, but two errors for missed contact inflated his score to 21 shots for the game. The TodavĂa Stills' Sierra keeps the silver cue in action for her 10-ball game. Sierra made a ball while taking one of her two errors on the break, but she was strong at the start and finish to end up with 17 shots total.

Group six opens with Pedey of the Diamond Gems using the silver cue in 10-ball. Pedey had a nightmarish time with trick plays, which pushed his score to 23 shots with two errors, and his frustration is representative of the league with this event. The Archtown Arrows' Hoppy keeps the silver cue in action with her 8-ball appearance. Hoppy made a ball on the break and managed to avoid errors over her 21 shots in a solid performance. Another 8-ball game sees the Whitewater Shores newcomer Rosalina play with the red cue. Rosalina had nothing on the break and three errors in 24 shots during the course of play, making a mess of her game. Terrace City Knights star Jennifer gets the 29th game of the day, using the silver cue in 13-ball. Jennifer had only one error after an empty break until she scratched while potting the 8. This gave her 30 shots and six errors in an infuriating game. Her sister, the Queens Flames' Briana, completes the group with 9-ball and the blue cue. Briana had a ball on the break, but she imploded for shot quality in the second half of her game, ending up with 18 shots and no errors.

The seventh group gets going with the third sister, the Southridge Defenders' Stephanie, who uses the blue cue in 10-ball. Stephanie had a ball on the break but suffered a pair of errors before converting a 9-10 combination to the top right to end with 17 shots. The Pacific Volcanoes' Leonette is the 32nd player drawn today, and she'll play 12-ball with the red cue. Leonette had nothing on the break and a pair of errors, but she found her way to 21 shots after the second error helped more than it hurt. The red cue gets another look in 12-ball with Diamond Gems captain Smokey. This game didn't go so well, as Smokey made three balls legally and one illegally on the break, but couldn't find positioning as his score ballooned to 26 shots. A season debut awaits as Twinkie III of the Whitewater Shores plays 7-ball with the blue cue. Twinkie III needed only 8 shots and no errors despite her narrowly empty break, a great start to the season for the longtime Shore. Rounding out the group, the Arrows' Hoppy returns for a second game today, using the silver cue in 9-ball. Hoppy made a ball on the break but had some shaky shooting, ending with 15 shots despite taking no errors.

Group eight kicks off with Pronger Tridents captain Precious using the silver cue in 12-ball. Precious rattled off a brilliant game with 14 shots, taking no errors and potting two balls on the break. Another captain gets the 37th game of the day, as the Pacific Volcanoes' Starlight uses the red cue for 9-ball. Starlight blasted in a pair on the break, and then completed the game in 12 shots with no errors. Next up, the Golden Pilots' Sparkles shoots 9-ball with the blue cue. Sparkles had a positive start with a pair on the break, but despite taking no errors, she needed 15 shots to finish the game, showing a difference between cues. Viewpoint Sound Meteors trade acquisition Princess goes next, using the red cue in 8-ball. Princess had nothing on the break but rarely missed over 18 error-free shots. Wrapping up the group, the Spiders' Ted plays his second game of the day, using the silver cue in Rotation. Ted took an empty break, but he took only one error over 23 shots, showing excellent control in his shots.

The ninth batch is fronted by the Tysini Hummingbirds' Paps, who makes his season debut in 7-ball with the blue cue. Paps had a ball on the break, but a pair of late errors pushed him up to 11 shots in a still-decent game. The Golden Pilots' Strut takes the next game, using the silver cue in 10-ball. Strut had nothing on the break, but took only one error in a crisp 14 shots to complete his appearance quickly. Continuing along, the Oceanside Waves' Dewey plays 9-ball with the blue cue. Dewey had no logical reason for such a bad appearance, taking 21 shots with only one error after a decent distribution on an empty break. The Lighton Prestige's Spirit is next to play, using the red cue in 12-ball. Spirit needed 23 shots with two errors after making a pair of balls on the break. At the back of the group, A. Charlton of the Archtown Arrows plays 9-ball with the silver cue. Charlton had nothing on the break, but she did well to get the 9 near the bottom right, and she finished a 4-9 combination to end with 9 shots and, somewhat controversially, no errors.

The final group is led by Lumberjacks captain Diddley, who uses the red cue in 10-ball. Diddley posted 21 shots and three errors after an empty break, a surge in the middle of the game the only thing preventing pure disaster. The red cue gets another chance in 10-ball as the Pilots' Sparkles plays a second game today. Sparkles looked good on her turn, needing 16 shots with one error after an unfortunately empty break. The Everton Eagles' Bear steps up for 12-ball with the silver cue. Bear did alright early in his game, getting a ball on the break and avoiding errors, but a slow finish gave him 21 shots. In the 49th game of the day, the Boston Swifts' Gradley uses the blue cue for 8-ball. Gradley made two balls on the break and cleared the table with 14 shots, using productive misses on some shots to keep things moving at a crazy pace. Finally, the Tridents' Potter is back for 10-ball with the red cue in the day's finale. Potter did well to make a ball on the break, although one error pushed his score up to 16 shots.

We'll continue the cricket off week tomorrow with a similar timeline.
