Select Cricket 2019 - Week 7

Schedules continue to shuffle around, but Select will begin Week 7 today. Qualifiers are expected later, and there will be United Cup action beginning on February 25. First up...

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Arrows wrap up a pair of road games with Hoppy taking regular rest, while the Gems sit Katelynn out for this game. Sally dropped 529 for Archtown to begin the game with strong form. Shadow shot back with force, blasting 932 for Diamond in a vintage effort to put them on top. Sleepy B. kept the challenge up with 633 for the Arrows, not letting the hosts off easy in this high-scoring game. Smokey answered with 755 for the Gems, countering the visitors' intensity with more force. Dusky fired back with 568 for Archtown, doing her part to keep them in the game. Pedey dropped off a bit with 319 for Diamond, but the hosts remain ahead with a player each to go. A. Charlton covered the deficit with 337 for the Arrows, setting their final score at a vulnerable 2067. Leonardo lifted 564 at the end to seal the Gems' win at 2570. Diamond rises to 5-8, just a half-game back of 5-7 Archtown.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: Kodiak sits for the hosts on regular rest, while a five-game week for the Spiders sees Waluigi take the first turn out of the lineup. Ted started with 755 for Web City, zoning in and producing a great opener for the visitors. Ms. Puppy had some pace, but her turn ended with 371 for Modernistic, only recovering half of the deficit. Jack grabbed 432 for the Spiders on the second attack, a solid outing for the veteran. Daisy kept the deficit steady, poking 424 for the Union to bring the game to half-completion. Avril kept Web City in control with a firm 494 on her turn, giving their lead a little boost. Puff I couldn't keep up with 352 for Modernistic, causing them to lose a little more ground late in the game. Chicky Phil closed with 555 for the Spiders, ending their attack at 2236. Sydney C. did well with 476 for the Union, but they suffered the loss at 1623. Web City gets a good win to go to 7-9, passing the 4-6 Modernistic side they just topped.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Gems make a one-off trip to the coast and leave Pedey behind for rest, while the host Monarchs have Dominic out on his first week of a Developmental Program stint. Shadow calmed down only slightly, ripping 864 in his second appearance of the week to put Diamond well ahead. Mams, unable to take rest this week, stumbled at 80 points for Southern. Smokey couldn't stop a ball that bounced off his handle and onto his wicket, ending his effort at just 214 for the Gems. Panda made a dent in the deficit with his 520 for the Monarchs, but they've got a long way to go. Katelynn had a shaky start and exited her turn with 251 for Diamond, weakening their lead again. Pounce double-hit on his last swing, skying the ball and ending with 310 as Southern's comeback takes a hit. Leonardo didn't do much to help for the Gems with 193, capping their offense at 1522. Salmo had pace but didn't last long, his 185 sealing the Monarchs' loss at 1095. Diamond is up to 6-8 as they begin to figure things out, while Southern slides to 3-12.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors will rest Dani in an interesting decision, while the Lumberjacks begin a road doubleheader with Gabe sitting out. Whiskers had good swings until she hit a high ball and ended up at a middling 250 for Maplewood. Princess took advantage of the small deficit, lining 644 for Viewpoint Sound to give them a noticeable lead. Diddley couldn't pull the Lumberjacks ahead with his 290, the long travel to the coast clearly affecting the visitors. Hoot supplied another 451 to give the Meteors a boost with their lead. Summer failed to help for Maplewood, shrugging her way to a pathetic 18 points as it appears the Select leaders are set to drop a game. Frosty also struggled with 224 for Viewpoint Sound, but that proved to be an addition to their lead after the visitors' previous turn. Bryant tried to do a one-man rally for the Lumberjacks, picking up 511 on his turn but still leaving them short at 1069. Nibbles tallied 519 for the Meteors to cap their win at 1838. Viewpoint Sound is quietly 5-3 overall and 4-0 at home, while Maplewood dips to 8-3, out of first place for now.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Lumberjacks stop in the Northeast to complete the road doubleheader, sitting Summer, while the Spiders give Jack an earned rest. Whiskers got distracted during his turn, falling at 227 for Maplewood in a mediocre start to the game. Waluigi compounded his opponents' misery, churning his way to 954 for Web City against one of his former teams. Diddley got some of it back with 492 for the Lumberjacks, but they remain behind after his secondary attack. Ted lost some ground with 305 for the Spiders, but their lead remains solid at the halfway mark. Bryant went with 472 for Maplewood, pushing back against the hosts on another turn. Avril fought off that damage with 494 for Web City, maintaining their lead nicely with a player each to go. Gabe added 368 for the Lumberjacks, confirming their loss at 1559. Chicky Phil covered that, icing the Spiders win with 389 individually for a total of 2142. Web City continues to impress this week, rising to 8-9, while Maplewood falls to 8-4, into a tie for second place.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks sit Cubby again for performance reasons, while the Union begin a doubleheader with Puff I taking her regular rest. Ms. Puppy continued a trend of good starts this week with 964 for Modernistic in this game, giving them quite the initial lead. Graham answered with 434 for Eastside, one of his better lead-off efforts so far this season. Daisy countered with 544 for the Union, matching her captain's intensity but not her longevity. Chelsea posted 490 for the Sharks, trying to keep them competitive at the midway mark. Kodiak plowed his way to 572 for Modernistic in his return to the lineup, strengthening their lead again. Taylor M. had a good block-and-hit for Eastside, but it soured her pace, and she ended at 339 for the turn. Sydney C. delivered 426 for the Union, capping their offense at 2506 in a likely victory. Gizmo kept the Sharks balanced with his 390, but they lost with 1653. Modernistic is up to 5-6, while Eastside drops to 2-9.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union will boldly rest Daisy in this massive rivalry game, while the visiting Nighthawks have Luigi off in these teams' first meeting of the year. Peach came in a bit low on pace thanks to some troubles with her stance as she hit 488 for North Modernistic. Ms. Puppy replied with 625 for Modernistic, giving them the slight edge early on. Cheddar pushed back with 665 for the Nighthawks, challenging the hosts a bit more this time. Puff I dropped off with 334 for the Union, causing them to slip behind midway through the game. Gal couldn't break out of a slow pace, ending with 312 as North Modernistic's lead weakens slightly. Kodiak had only 243 for Modernistic, the offensive power draining from this game in the later stages. Lionel tacked on 434 for the Nighthawks at the end, giving them a final score of 1899. Sydney C. fell with 383 for the Union, sealing their losing total at 1585. North Modernistic takes the first act to rise to 9-5, while their rivals Modernistic drop to 5-7.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Spiders begin a four-game road trip in league play with Ted taking his turn to rest, while the host Arrows sit A. Charlton to begin their five-game home stand. Waluigi batted 401 for Web City in a decent start to their offense. Sally replied with 518 for Archtown, the experienced captain setting the hosts slightly ahead. Jack has earned a good reputation in road games, continuing his success with 533 here to cover the deficit the Spiders previously faced. Sleepy B. poked 445 for the Arrows, doing just enough to recover a small lead. Avril picked up 396 for Web City, covering the deficit again in an extremely close Northeastern battle. Hoppy broke her home struggles with 460 for Archtown, boosting their lead with a player each to go. Chicky Phil forced a small response with his 245 for the Spiders, setting their final score at 1575. Dusky had a cruel twist of fate for the Arrows, falling with a measly 64 to stick them with a loss at 1487. Web City is lucky to escape with the win, rising to 9-9 while passing 5-8 Archtown after the surprise finish.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Monarchs remain without Dominic in this Coastal Derby, while the Meteors sit Dani for this game. Mams wasted no time in scoring 872 for Southern at the start, looking to serve the hosts their first home loss of the year. Princess had a shaky 400 for Viewpoint Sound, cutting a bit of the deficit away. Panda pushed back with 616 for the Monarchs, boosting their lead quite a bit on the second attack. Hoot managed 395 for the Meteors, falling in line with the previous turn. Pounce slapped a solid 475 for Southern to keep their lead steady. Frosty couldn't cover that damage with 373 for Viewpoint Sound, making a comeback unlikely for the hosts. Salmo whacked 765 for the Monarchs at the end, finishing their offense at 2728. Nibbles dropped out at 276 for the Meteors, confirming their loss at 1444. Southern's impressive victory takes them to 4-12, while Viewpoint Sound dips to 5-4.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: Closing their home doubleheader, the Meteors are without Hoot, while the visiting Spiders sit Chicky Phil in the first game of their road doubleheader. Waluigi teed off with 733 for Web City, burying the hosts in a deep deficit again. Princess did better in responding this time, her 684 keeping the game close for Viewpoint Sound. Ted answered with 712 for the Spiders, rebuilding their lead to its previous strength. Frosty couldn't keep up with 287 for the Meteors, signalling she needs a game off for rest. Jack hammered 938 for Web City on his turn, propelling them to a likely unbeatable level. Nibbles swung his way to 522 for Viewpoint Sound, but the hosts remain far behind. Avril remained in form with 487 for the Spiders at the end, capping their attack at 2870. Dani returned to the Meteors lineup with 451, but they suffered the loss anyway at 1944. Web City has had a fantastic week, going 4-0 with one game left to rise to 10-9, passing 5-5 Viewpoint Sound.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Spiders are resting Ted after his pool appearance, while the Gems sit their captain Smokey to begin their doubleheader. Waluigi went with 402 for Web City this time, taking a step back from his recent performances. Shadow covered that with 504 for Diamond, a good performance in his last meeting with his former team in the Select season. Jack disappointed with 335 for the Spiders on his second attack, leaving them vulnerable. Pedey wasted the opportunity with a mediocre 231 for the Gems, putting them just a bit behind their visitors. Avril gave Web City a jump with 587 on her turn, challenging the hosts to keep up with them. Katelynn didn't meet the challenge, her 355 giving Diamond a deficit late in the game. Chicky Phil collected 466 for the Spiders at the end, giving them a total of 1790. Leonardo got beat on a high bounce, ending with 379 as the Gems suffer another loss with 1469 total. Web City jumps again to 11-9, having gone 3-1 in the season series with a Diamond side that fell to 6-9.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Gems have Katelynn on the bench in the second half of their doubleheader, while the Spurs go without Sage to give her extra rest. Shadow hauled in 395 for Diamond in an acceptable start to the final game of the week. Spice had only 305 for Victoria on their first turn, creating a small deficit for her side. Smokey looked refreshed after his game off, swatting 521 for the Gems to add onto their lead. Yekaterina came in a bit weak with only 250 for the Spurs, causing their deficit to grow at the halfway mark. Pedey piled on with another 500 for Diamond this time, building their lead a bit higher. Strawberry didn't have the attack with 348 for Victoria, ceding more ground in what appears to be a tough loss incoming for the hosts. Leonardo stumbled with 164 for the Gems, setting their final score at 1580. Mitchell just saw a ball sneak over his bat, causing him to end with 214 as the Spurs lost with 1117.
