United Cup - First Round, Leg 2

We'll be mixing Select and Elite games as the second legs commence on Wednesday. The winners of these series will be reseeded to face the current top-4 teams from each division.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks again go without their captain, holding the 1-0 series lead over the Spiders, who sit Chicky Phil for this match. Waluigi started with 480 for Web City in this contest, trying to overcome a bit of a deficit if they're to advance. Chelsea shot back with 576 for Eastside, doing her part to guide her team to the early lead. Ted chugged along for 624 for the Spiders, regaining the lead with a stronger second attack. Taylor M. countered with 659 for the Sharks, restoring their narrow lead at the halfway mark. Jack chipped 366 for Web City, covering the deficit by a thin amount. Gizmo likely put the game to rest, smashing 889 for Eastside to grow their lead significantly. Avril dropped at 177 for the Spiders, confirming their exit from United Cup play with a loss at 1647. Cubby tapped 438 for the Sharks to secure their win at 2562. Eastside's lost league season may lead to a pressure-free run in United Cup, but they next face the top-seeded Victoria Spurs after this 2-0 series win.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The closest series from the first leg continues, with the Defenders sitting Wario while Taylor S. rests for the Tradewinds. Tigerette had a rough opening turn with only 230 points, leaving her team exposed. Bianca pulled Southridge ahead with 385 on their first turn, but the margin in the game and the series is close. Solaris made a stretch save to keep his turn going before ending with 402 as the Tradewinds retake a modest lead. Debby fired back with 702 for the Defenders, pulling them much farther ahead at the midway point. Niki torpedoed at 146 for Commerce, putting them in danger of being eliminated. Stephanie held her ground with 429 for Southridge, giving them the inside track heading into the final turn. Rosemary posted 295 for the Tradewinds, their final score resting at 1073 for a total of 2557 over the two games. Caitlin tagged on with 432 for the Defenders, icing their leg two win at 1948 and their series total at 3360. Southridge advances on the points tiebreaker, and will face top-seeded Oceanside Waves in the second round.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: Both teams remain without their players, as Dominic of the Monarchs and Cobalt of the Wolves are again unavailable for this match. Juno got going with 496, a strong effort at the front for Stonebridge. Mams fired back with 575 for Southern, pulling her team ahead narrowly in the game. Hershey had good pace but a short turn, falling at 418 as the Wolves seem to be lacking that extra burst of attack. Panda lost a little ground with 395 for the Monarchs, who still trail in the series despite holding the lead in this game. Wild Thing slipped at 225 for Stonebridge, wasting their chance to pinch the hosts a bit. Pounce surged with 543 for Southern on his turn, giving them a lead to protect on the final turn. Vladimir covered the deficit with 405 for the Wolves, setting their game score at 1544 and their series total at 3153. Salmo tapped 199 for the Monarchs at the end, giving them 1712 to win the game and a 3143 in the series, which they lost by 10 points. The Stonebridge Wolves survive an absolute nail-biter to earn advancement to face the North Modernistic Nighthawks in the second round.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns are without their captain Nightfur as they face a massive deficit, while the Knights take this chance to rest Oreo. Kiwi slapped 527 to start the game in good form for Terrace City as they nurse their lead from leg one. Kayla basically covered that damage with 521 for Royal. Jennifer replied with 556 on the second attack for the Knights, doing well to restore their lead. Jake tried to keep up but fell at 379 for the Crowns, further reducing their chances of making a comeback for the series. Quincy stumbled at 112 for Terrace City, weakening their lead for the game. Brownie wasted the opportunity to challenge the visitors, taking a mere 129 for Royal as they appear set to exit the competition. Melissa hauled in 478 to ice the Knights' score at 1673. Cassie missed a swing and dropped at 112 as the Crowns lose with 1141. Terrace City won the series 2-0 and will face the Pacific Volcanoes in the second round.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows sit Dusky as they try to hold onto a large lead, while Princess will be on the bench for the Meteors as they try to beat the odds in a tough road game. Hoot fired off 464 for Viewpoint Sound, approximately halving the series deficit the visitors face. Sally responded with 621 for Archtown, doing everything she can to give her side a positive start. Frosty answered with 373 for the Meteors, their energy to attack the deficit showing a drop on the second attack. Sleepy B. added 450 for the Arrows to protect their lead. Nibbles gathered 324 for Viewpoint Sound on his turn, further lessening the chances for them to make a comeback. Hoppy took out her own wicket at just 160 for Archtown, weakening their lead in the game but not putting their series in danger. Dani's 454 gave the Meteors a total of 1615, which might win the game, but they will be short in the series either way with 2575 total. A. Charlton tapped 357 for the Arrows to put their game total at 1588 for the narrow loss, but they won the series with a total score of 3415. The Harrison Specters will face the Arrows in the second round.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige are down by over 1000 heading into their home leg, sitting Shiny while the Flames have Hannah on the bench. Crystal showed no mercy with 764 for Queens, boosting the series lead with a great start here. Acorn only picked up 334 for Lighton on his turn, doing little to help his side turn things around. Violetta scooped 454 for the Flames on the second attack, adding a decent amount to their lead. Citrus dropped out at 128 for the Prestige, just about confirming their exit from the competition. Briana went off with 572 for Queens, continuing to pile up points with ease. Spirit had 361 for Lighton, but they appear to just be playing the game out. Mario exited with 224 for the Flames, capping their attack at 2014 for the game. Nicole's 397 sealed the Prestige's fate at 1220, a similar score to their leg one loss. Queens' clean sweep gets them to the second round against the Pearl Surfers.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: Daisy sits for the Union as they protect a noticeable lead, while the Gems are going all out while benching Leonardo. Shadow had a questionable 227 for Diamond on the opening turn, putting them in an awkward position to start. Ms. Puppy slugged 1378 for Modernistic on their first attack, likely settling the game and series right away. Smokey slapped 492 for the Gems, but their chances of coming back look dim. Puff I went with 304 for the Union, keeping it simple as they will likely cruise to the win. Pedey didn't offer much of a challenge with 100 for Diamond, appearing more keen to get out of the game. Kodiak tapped 250 for Modernistic, keeping their lead strong late in the game. Katelynn put in a good effort with 503 for the Gems, but they still lost with 1322. Sydney C. kept it simple with 144, helping the Union finish off their win at 2076. The Union swept the series 2-0 and will face the Maplewood Lumberjacks in the second round.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills play host to the Cascades in the final first round game of the United Cup, with the heavily favored Cascades sitting Stripes while Sierra's out for the Stills. Jasmine wildly hit 251 to open the game, practically taunting the hosts as Freedom's cumulative lead grows a bit more. Ruby chopped 650 for Todavía on her turn, cutting into the deficit in the series significantly. Roxy fought off the danger with 420 for the Cascades, covering the deficit in the process. Bells faded a bit with 247 for the Stills, hurting their big-picture outlook. Nikolai went with 329 for Freedom, hardly pushing the issue in this game. Easter barely kept Todavía ahead in the game with 385, let alone mounting a late comeback in the series. Stinky added 396 for the Cascades at the end, sealing their score for the game at 1396, for a series score of 3976. Prism won the game with her 556 for the Stills, but their total of 1838 left them short at 3068 in the series. The Pronger Tridents are next up in United Cup play for the Cascades.

That's all from the first round. League play resumes with Select Week 8 beginning March 10.
