The Equipment and Competition Committees jointly ruled that the red cue shall be burnished mid-qualifying, so that has been taken care of in hopes of changing the course for red cue players in the grand scheme. Nobody can be fully happy with the decision, but it should help most players later in the season. We begin today with...
B. Chapman of the Victoria Spurs testing the new-look red cue in 12-ball. Chapman shot 26 with two errors, with positioning being more of the problem late in the game, making a judgment on the cue hard to present. Next up is Kiwi of the Terrace City Knights, shooting Rotation with the silver cue. Kiwi took 33 shots with two errors in an okay showing. Going third on the day, Spirit of the Lighton Prestige plays 8-ball with the blue cue, scoring 19 with no errors in a good second appearance. Up next, we have Midnight of the Westside Rockers shooting 9-ball with the blue cue. Midnight took just 9 shots with no errors in a crisply shot performance. Rounding out the first group is Snowball of the Swordpoint Blades, keeping the blue cue at the table for 15-ball. Snowball committed two errors over 32 shots, a middling showing in a rough qualifying run so far.
The second batch starts with Hoot of the Pronger Tridents playing 15-ball with the blue cue. Hoot cleared the table in 28 shots with two errors, a decent showing. The seventh player drawn today is Cowzart of the Pearl Surfers, keeping the game as 15-ball but bringing the red cue in. Cowzart shot 31 with four errors, the first of those coming on a jump-shot make of the 2 to the bottom right that saw the cue hit the floor after leaving the table. Moving along, there's Shawn of the Swordpoint Blades bringing the blue cue back for more 15-ball. Shawn played well early, and ended the game with a hard carom off the 2 that sent the 10 into the 15, which fell in the top right for a score of 4 with no errors on the quick finish. Following that, Shawn is up again for Accuracy with the silver cue, the sixth player to finish this season. Shawn shot 21 this time, with no errors, for a grand total of 148, which is very good and should help him in tiebreakers. Ending the group, we have Puff II of the Boston Swifts playing 9-ball with the blue cue. Puff II shot all around the 9, eventually taking it to the bottom right with the 5 on shot 7, with one error included in the game.
Leading off group three is Chicky Phil of the Westside Rockers, using the blue cue for Rotation. Chicky Phil shot 30 with two errors in a reasonably decent game. Continuing along, Stinky of the Freedom Cascades gets 12-ball with the red cue. Stinky ended up at 24 with two errors in a challenging game. Next up, Cleo of the Everton Eagles uses the red cue for 10-ball. Cleo cleared the rack in 20 shots, with two errors, performing acceptably. Dusky got the next game, playing 9-ball with the blue cue to the tune of 16 shots with no errors, squandering a good start through inaccuracy. Going fourteenth today is Wings of the Pearl Surfers for 15-ball with the blue cue. Wings got a bunch of redemption, with only one error in 23 shots, which was illegal contact while also sinking the 15 early, forcing Wings to clear the rack, which he did very quickly. The group concludes with Shaggy of the Southridge Defenders playing 8-ball with the silver cue, scoring 24 with no errors in the textbook definition of the term, although a couple of flubs certainly lengthened the game.
The fourth segment kicks off with Jennifer Livilotti shooting 9-ball with the blue cue for the Terrace City Knights. Jennifer scored 13 with no errors in a very accurate performance. Up next, we have another Knight, Stripes, playing Rotation with the red cue. Stripes started slow but ended bold, finishing with 30 shots and five errors in a workable game. The eighteenth player drawn today is A. Charlton of the Golden Pilots, keeping the red cue at the table for 10-ball. Charlton needed 20 shots with one error in an average showing. Moving along, Zach of the Viewpoint Sound Meteors is drawn for 10-ball with the blue cue. Zach struggled with execution, falling to 23 shots with two errors in a troublesome game. Wrapping up this group is Debby Ryan of the Southridge Defenders playing 12-ball with the red cue. Debby played pitifully, shooting 40 with six errors in an overwhelming game.
Group five opens with Pacific Volcanoes captain Starlight shooting 10-ball with the blue cue. Starlight righted the ship for the league, pounding 12 shots with one error. B. Chapman of the Spurs comes up next for her second game of the day, now with the blue cue for Rotation. Chapman finished with 22 shots but four errors in an efficient performance. Moving along, there's Noelle of the Central Warriors, keeping the game as Rotation but using the red cue to score 33 with four errors in a predictably difficult rack. The 24th player called today is Slinks of the Harrison Specters, shooting 10-ball with the blue cue. Slinks shot 22 with one error in a mediocre appearance. The group ends as Lionel of the Commerce Tradewinds plays 9-ball with the silver cue. Lionel needed 19 shots with three errors in an embarrassing effort that is becoming more characteristic of the league as the sessions advance.
The sixth segment starts with Fluffina of the Maplewood Lumberjacks playing 10-ball with the silver cue. Fluffina had her best game yet, shooting 15 with one error, a solid outing. Continuing along, there's Kelly of the Viewpoint Sound Meteors using the red cue for Rotation. Kelly continued to impress, shooting 22 with three errors in a very good sixth appearance of the season for her new team. Up next is Ruby of the Archtown Arrows, bringing the silver cue to the table for 10-ball. Ruby shot 18 with one error in a fairly decent showing. The 29th player of the day is Boots of the Southridge Defenders, coming on with the red cue for 8-ball. Boots took 23 shots with only one error in a decent showing. The batch ends with Leonardo of the Todavía Stills using the silver cue in Rotation to score 35 with four errors in an erratic effort.
Group seven begins with Freedom Cascade Roxy shooting 15-ball with the silver cue. Roxy appears to be the first player to revert to a rebellious style that ignores penalty shots to simplify the game, shooting 28 with five errors. The 32nd player of the day is Leonardo again, now using the red cue for 15-ball in his second game of the day for the Stills. Leonardo needed 13 shots to finally get a usable combination on the 15, scoring the 2-4-15 to the top right to end the game early after hunting around for anything to get lined up in the error-free game. Next up is Stripes for another game for the Knights veteran, shooting 15-ball with the red cue as well. Stripes took 32 shots with five errors in a difficult game to keep control of, especially for a hotter temper like her own. Moving along, there's Paige of the Queens Flames, using the silver cue for 10-ball. Paige hit 19 shots with two errors in clean the table off. Wrapping up another trying afternoon, we have Noelle of the Warriors again, taking the red cue for 15-ball. Noelle ended with 43 shots and eight errors, a new high for the league for errors in a single game, as the burnishing apparently does not work and the red cue is on the cusp of some serious action.
The evening session begins with Lydia of the Lighton Prestige shooting 9-ball with the red cue. Lydia shot 10 with two errors, ending the game early with a carom off the 6 to drive the 9 to the top right for the finishing move. Next up, Diamond Gems captain Smokey uses the blue cue for 12-ball. Smokey shot 23 with no errors in a solid appearance. Continuing along, Twinkie I of the Lighton Prestige comes on for 10-ball with the red cue. Twinkie I shot 16, ending early with a 7-10 combination to the top right as she also collected three errors while trying to set things up. The 39th player drawn today is Fluffina again, playing 12-ball with the red cue as she attempts to save her qualifiers season. Fluffina hit 22 with two errors, a reasonable performance. Ending the eighth group is Mams of the Viewpoint Sound Meteors, playing 10-ball with the red cue. Mams needed only 3 shots with one error, a scratch on the break that led to the only option two shots later, shooting the 3-10 to the top right to end the game.
The ninth segment gets going as Max of the Queens Flames takes the red cue for 12-ball. Max dazzled, shooting 18 with only one error, as his shot selection highlighted the game well. Following that, Debby Ryan gets her second appearance of the day for the Defenders with the blue cue for Rotation. Debby shot 27 with just one error in a very composed game, squashing the confusion she showed earlier today. Continuing along, we have Neopolitan of the Pearl Surfers playing Rotation with the silver cue. Neopolitan needed only 25 shots with two errors to clear the rack. The 44th player of the day is Commerce Tradewinds rookie Lorde, playing Rotation with the blue cue. Lorde shot 28 with one error, a reasonably good effort. Finishing up this group, we have Pounce of the Oceanside Waves playing 9-ball with the blue cue. Pounce ended up shooting 19 with no errors in a bit of a struggle-based game.
The final group tees off with Kayla of the Queens Flames shooting 8-ball with the red cue. Kayla hit 26 shots with one error in a bit of a tough game. Going 47th today is A. Charlton again, now using the silver cue for 12-ball. Charlton struggled with positioning late, but still scored 26 with no errors in a very cerebral style of play. Next up, there's Gizmo of the Central Warriors getting more 12-ball action with the silver cue. Gizmo scored 20 with two errors in a pretty straightforward appearance. Continuing along, we have Easter of the Todavía Stills using the silver cue for another 12-ball game. Easter scored 23 with one error in a very solid performance. Ending the day, Shannon of the Southern Monarchs steps up for 15-ball with the blue cue. Shannon took 29 shots with two errors in a solid outing.
That's it for today. Bulk editions of SCL start tomorrow and run through Thursday, followed each day by qualifiers.
