Summer Cricket League: Week 12 Part 1

Here's the final week of the SCL regular season. Today and tomorrow will bring the league to its close, in which we'll take some time off before gearing up for a short playoff run. We begin with...

The American Rebels hosting the Melbourne Renegades. Charlie Thompson pulled in 656 for Melbourne to open the game in a big way. Axel Cools took 423 back for American. Theodore White faltered with 36 for the Renegades. Louvel Lefevre blasted 471 for the Rebels. Sancho Ramos choked for Melbourne, scoring only 98 points. Sander Lambert kept up the American attack with 472. Rana Naqvi blasted 715 for the Renegades, a rare stunner for him. Irsyad Sudjana had 256 for the Rebels, keeping them in a slight lead. Sikke Eichel took 235 for Melbourne, edging them to the lead. Sabino Chacon took 292 for American to regain the lead. Stanley Watts posted 243 for the Renegades, giving them 1983 total. Cisco Solorio iced the win for the Rebels with 407 to give them a final of 2321, sending them to the playoffs. American finishes the season at 13-11 while Melbourne slides to 16-6.

Moving along, the Amsterdam Hotstove welcome the Guatemala Conquistadors. Frisco Romero led off with 248 for Guatemala. Jerry Burke belted 578 for Amsterdam in response. Eustacio Zarraga faltered with 144 for the Conquistadors. Yaozu Miao chipped 225 for the Hotstove. Kenzo Hashimoto shot back with 352 for Guatemala. Carlos Barajas tripped up with 49 for Amsterdam, making the game a bit tighter. Curtis Caldwell got fancy with the bat in hitting 314 for the Conquistadors, giving them a narrow lead. Veto Casas took 180 for the Hotstove, leaving the game very close. Azul Mora couldn't track a bouncing ball, ending up with 32 points for Guatemala in a critical moment. Andrew Reynolds staked a claim to the lead for Amsterdam with 250. Adrien Laurent pounded 447 to put the Conquistadors at 1537 total. Manolito Avalos scored just 66 for the Hotstove, choking the game away at 1348 total. Guatemala jumps to 12-9 while Amsterdam is 5-19 to finish the season.

Continuing along, the Bangkok Sixes bring in the Prague Checkmates to jockey for position. Pancho Barrios came down from lofty heights for Prague, starting this game with 274. Firdoze Uns hit 256 for Bangkok, making it close at the start. Lucila Zavala poked 319 for the Checkmates. Gilbert Berry slammed 575 for the Sixes, a very strong performance at an important time. Hyunjae Kwak had only 80 for Prague, making the deficit grow some more. Aleix Nieto supplied Bangkok with 320 to add onto the lead effectively. Corentin Aerts hit 271 for the Checkmates, chipping away at the deficit. Zuri Okafor had just 178 for the Sixes, letting the game slip a bit. Darryl Estrada blasted 503 for Prague, putting them right in the thick of the game. Rodas Nunez cruised to 160 for Bangkok, keeping the lead very narrow with a player each to go. Rayan Carranza took 184 for the Checkmates, putting them at 1631 total. Luis Godinez choked with 51 for the Sixes, giving them 1540 in the loss. Prague goes to 14-8 while dumping Bangkok to 13-11, where they finish.

Back in Europe, the Brussels Chocolatiers host the Prague Checkmates. Pancho Barrios appears fatigued, hitting 144 for Prague. Patrido Salazar answered with a big 572 for Brussels. Lucila Zavala had just 160 for the Checkmates as the game starts slipping away. Florent Claes slugged 707 for the Chocolatiers. Hyunjae Kwak managed 208 for Prague as the visitors continue to struggle. Dobromil Zeman launched 359 for Brussels against his home country's team. Corentin Aerts flicked 319 for the Checkmates, pulling a few points back. Rodas Cazares hit 48 for the Chocolatiers, putting them in cruise control. Darryl Estrada failed to capitalize, with just 64 points for Prague, likely costing them the game. Eric Zaragoza tacked on 368 for Brussels, nearly securing the game. Rayan Carranza had 176 to put the Checkmates at 1071 in the loss. Jaturun Choen chipped 231 in the end for the Chocolatiers, as they won with 2285. Brussels moves to 9-14 while Prague is 14-9.

Down to Venezuela, as the Caracas Hitmen bring in the Seoul Crushers with the chance for the hosts to play spoiler. Natal Badillo opened big with 980 for Seoul, in an attempt to steal the drama from the game. Vitaya Grichson had just 96 for Caracas, putting them in a big hole early. Gwandoya Makeba belted another 920 for the Crushers. Barasa Contee could only haul in 106 for the Hitmen. Leandro Gamboa tacked on 370 for Seoul, who have likely already won this game. Noppadon Gruemor got cut down at 96 for Caracas in the lopsided game. Max Jennings scooped 407 for the Crushers. Trevor Watson could only corral 79 for the Hitmen, as the boos rain down on the home team. Frank Schmidt scored 225 for Seoul, putting the game into cruise control. Maynard Cabagnot batted 194 for Caracas. Zdenko Jansky's 112 made it 3014 total for the Crushers. Bojing Luo hit 705 to put the Hitmen at 1276 total in the loss. Seoul goes to 10-12, still alive for the playoffs, while Caracas ends the season at 5-19 in a tie for last with the Hotstove.

In a winner clinches game, the Guatemala Conquistadors welcome the Madrid Toros. Spencer Howard faltered with 72 for Madrid to lead off. Frisco Romero took 119 for Guatemala in what is shaping up to be a low-and-tight game. Pepillo Gamboa took 197 for the Toros. Eustacio Zarraga maintained the narrow lead for the Conquistadors with 227. Lennert Verheyen swatted 233 for Madrid, edging them ahead again. Kenzo Hashimoto posted 249 for Guatemala, maintaining the lead again. Thabo Chahine pulled in just 162 for the Toros. Curtis Caldwell tripped up with 80 for the Conquistadors, making the game even tighter. Guillem Gamboa knocked 220 for Madrid, pushing them into a bigger lead. Azul Mora broke free with 369 for Guatemala, giving them a decent lead in the tough game. Martin Badillo failed to cover the deficit for the Toros, scoring only 96 to put them at 980 in the loss. Adrien Laurent tacked on 464 for the Conquistadors, giving them 1508 in their clinching victory. Guatemala will head to the playoffs, currently 13-9, while Madrid has one more chance while sitting at 12-11.

Ending the segment, the Johannesburg Lions host the Manila Pacmen, both with something to play for. Haejun Ki's road struggles continued with 80 points in this game. Wiebe Becker crushed 629 for Johannesburg to lead off. Porfirio Cazares hit 152 for a very flat looking Pacmen team. Normando Alonso boxed it out for the Lions, scoring 162. Sander Verheyen ignited the Manila offense with 319. Ken Howard faltered with 128 for Johannesburg, allowing the lead to shrink a bit. Gerben Bovelt mustered up only 216 for the Pacmen. Lucio Adame continued to regress with only 99 for the Lions, making the game less comfortable for the hosts. Dries Renard smacked 378 to give Manila a small lead. Oshri Aharonov hit 173 to pull Johannesburg back into a slight lead. Richard Miller put up 232 for the Pacmen, for a final score of 1377. Pieter Hendrickx poked 188, eliminating the Pacmen as the Lions finished with 1379 in a very narrow victory. Johannesburg finishes at 14-10 for the season, while Manila is out at 9-13.

It all ends tomorrow for the SCL, with the last six games of the regular season set to determine the final playoff spot going to either the Toros or the Crushers.
