2016 Qualifiers - Day 20 Final Day

The last day of qualifiers, composed of the last 55 games, goes today, and we will do so under Lights Out conditions, as the center bulb in the playing arena has decided to go out for good. The replacement will be made before B-levels begin, but today will feature a more intense, lower-light vibe. The day begins with...

Kayla of the Queens Flames shooting Accuracy with the blue cue, the 105th player to finish qualifying. Kayla scored 16 with no errors, a solid performance highlighted by a double-pot of the 9 to the bottom left and the 11 to the bottom side, which saw the 11 go down untouched. Her total stood at 168, a little better than the expected average. Moving along, Jack of the Pacific Volcanoes plays 15-ball with the blue cue. Jack nearly took the 15 on the break, and needed only four error-free shots to carom off the 2 to finish the job by putting the 15 in the top right in an excellent appearance. Next up is Jennifer Livilotti of the Terrace City Knights, the 106th player to finish qualifying with her Accuracy game with the blue cue. Jennifer shot 18 in the game with one error, finishing with 180 total shots in a sub-par effort. The fourth player of the day is Shadow of the Web City Spiders, shooting 15-ball with the red cue. Shadow looked frustrated after shooting 40 with three errors in a difficult game, with his dedication to avoid errors ultimately doing him in. The first group closes with Shelley of the Infinity Torpedoes playing Rotation with the blue cue. Shelley scored 31 with three errors, struggling a bit in a difficult game.

The second segment starts with Midnight of the Westside Rockers ending her qualifying session, the 107th player to do so, by using the red cue for Accuracy. Midnight shot 18 with no errors in the game for a grand total of 175, a little worse than the expected average. Going seventh today is Diamond Gems rookie Pedey, using the blue cue for Accuracy to be the 108th player to finish qualifying. Pedey hit 16 for the game, with no errors, and finished with a total of 147 shots, a great start to his rookie campaign. Following that, Leandra of the Tysini Hummingbirds plays 15-ball with the red cue. Leandra ended up at 29 with four errors, a mixed-bag performance. Continuing along, there's Twinkie III of the Whitewater Shores, the 109th player to finish qualifying by using the red cue for Accuracy. Twinkie III ended up at 22 with one error, a poor appearance, which gave her 160 total shots, better than the average. Rounding out the batch, Whiskers of the Infinity Torpedoes brings the silver cue to the table for 12-ball. Whiskers shot 20 with two errors, a workable game.

Group three gets going as Shaggy of the Southridge Defenders plays 15-ball with the silver cue. Shaggy scored 24 with two errors in a solid appearance. Up next is Brownie of the Harrison Specters, using the red cue for 12-ball. Brownie was a bit too cautious, shooting 23 but with no errors in her game. The thirteenth player drawn today is Spirit of the Lighton Prestige, shooting Rotation with the blue cue. Spirit ended up with 25 shots and no errors in a very good performance. Moving along, we have Crystal of the Queens Flames shooting Accuracy with the blue cue, the 110th player to finish qualifying. Crystal scored 19 with no errors in the game, for a total of 179 shots, slightly worse than average. The group concludes with Niki of the Eastside Sharks finishing her qualifying with the red cue for Accuracy, the 111th player to finish. The rookie Niki shot 19 with no errors in the game, but her total across the sessions is 195, which puts her deep in the pack of players.

The fourth group leads off with Shadow of the Spiders shooting Accuracy with the silver cue, the 112th player to wrap up qualifying appearances. Shadow needed 20 shots with one error in the game, and ended with 168 total shots, slightly better than the expected average. The seventeenth player called today is Whiskers of the Torpedoes, returning to the table for Rotation with the silver cue. Whiskers scored 29 with one error in an average game, holding her own on a busy last day. Continuing along, we have Paps of the Pronger Tridents using the red cue for 15-ball. Paps needed 33 shots with five errors to clear the table, showing a bit of a challenge. Next up is Puff I of the Modernistic Union, using the red cue for Accuracy as the 113th player to finish qualifying. Puff I used three double-pots to score 17 with no errors in the game, coming in at 157 total shots across all games for a very solid total. The group wraps up as Dusky of the Archtown Arrows is the 114th player to complete qualifiers, using the red cue for Accuracy. Dusky shot a lousy 25 for the game, with one error, but finished with 151 overall shots, a very good total.

The fifth batch starts with Patches of the Boston Swifts shooting 15-ball with the red cue. Patches tried to get tricky early, but it backfired and she ended the game at 38 shots with six errors. Up next, Spirit of the Prestige gets 15-ball with the silver cue. Spirit ended her appearance early, caroming the cue off the 7 and 12 to pot the 15 to the bottom right in 16 shots, with four errors, all of which were intentional. The 23rd player of the day is Lydia of the Lighton Prestige, using the red cue for another 15-ball game. Lydia played brilliantly, avoiding an error in the 9 shots it took to find a carom off the 5 to pot the 15 in the top right for the finishing move, while hounding all of the other shots necessary to get to that point. Following that, Chelsea of the Eastside Sharks keeps the 15-ball theme going with the blue cue. Chelsea also continued the quick finishes, ending on 14 shots with one error by converting a 7-15 combination flawlessly to the top right for the early ending. Wrapping up the group, we have Paps of the Tridents becoming the 115th player to finish qualifying, using the red cue in Accuracy. Paps scored 19 in the game, with one error, and ended all sessions with a grand total of 159, a good score.

Segment six opens as Bright of the Tysini Hummingbirds uses the red cue for Accuracy, the 116th player to finish qualifying. Bright completed the rack in 19 shots with no errors, finishing slightly better than average at 165 total shots for all qualifiers. Moving along, there's Lydia of the Prestige wrapping up her qualifying with Accuracy and the silver cue, the 117th player to finish. Lydia needed only 19 shots with no errors, for a grand total of 131, an exceptional mark that has her campaign for Comeback Player of the Year off to a great start. Next up is Brownie of the Specters for Rotation with the blue cue. Brownie cleared the table in 29 shots with three errors, an average effort. The 29th player drawn today is Patches of the Swifts, ending her qualifying with Accuracy and the red cue, the 118th player to complete her sessions. Patches scored 19 in the game, with no errors, but finished a little worse than average at 177. The batch finishes up with Shelley of the Torpedoes using the silver cue for 15-ball. Shelley scored 26 with three errors, a reasonably good performance.

The seventh group kicks off with Shaggy of the Defenders becoming the 119th player to finish qualifying, using the blue cue for her Accuracy game. Shaggy finished at 19 shots with no errors in the game, for a total of 161, finishing better than average overall. Next up is Whiskers of the Torpedoes, now appearing with the blue cue for 15-ball. Whiskers needed 31 shots and five errors to complete the game, a poor showing. Moving along, there's Whiskers again, now the 120th player to finish qualifying as she keeps the blue cue in hand for Accuracy. Whiskers scored 22 with no errors in the game, ending her sessions at 165 total shots, a little better than average. The 34th player called today is Sierra of the TodavĂa Stills, playing Rotation with the silver cue. Sierra cleared the table in 26 shots with three errors, a good score for the game. The group ends as Sierra of the Stills does it again for 15-ball, also with the silver cue. Sierra did wonderfully in cornering the 15, pushing it to the bottom right. She ended at a score of 8 when she caromed softly off the 3 to pot the 15 in that location, avoiding an error in the quick game.

Batch eight begins with Spirit of the Prestige ending her qualifiers as the 121st player to do so, using the silver cue for her Accuracy game. Spirit put in a strong bid for worst game of the year, scoring 37 with two errors in a game that allows you to shoot whatever you want, and her total of 174 shots for all qualifiers hovers around the average. Diddley of the Maplewood Lumberjacks gets the next game, Rotation with the red cue. Diddley cleaned the table off in 23 shots, with only one error, making Spirit look even worse. The 38th player of the day is the long-awaited and soon-to-be very busy Watermelon, who appears in the last 10-ball game of the qualifiers with the red cue. Watermelon took 7 shots with one error, but ended early with a brilliant double-pot that sent the 5 to the top right (the called shot), while also sinking the 10 in the bottom right to win the game with the legal play. Following that, Diddley returns with the red cue for 15-ball. Diddley completed this game in 24 shots with four errors, navigating through his own mistakes quite efficiently. Rounding out the group, we have Chelsea of the Sharks as the 122nd player to complete her qualifiers, with the red cue for Accuracy. Chelsea struggled to a finish of 23 shots with no errors, ending with a grand total of 146 shots, an excellent mark for the veteran.

Smokey scored 20 with no errors in a solid performance, ending overall with 173 shots, just around the average area. The 42nd player to shoot today is Leandra of the Tysini Hummingbirds, keeping the blue cue at the table for more Accuracy as the 124th player to finish qualifying. Leandra struggled to 23 shots with one error in the game, and ended at 166 total shots, a little better than the expected average. Moving along, we have Dreamy of the Swordpoint Blades playing 15-ball with the blue cue. Dreamy did well to finish early at 23 shots despite four errors, ending on a meticulously set up 9-15 combination to the top right. Up next is Dreamy again, using the silver cue for Accuracy as the 125th player to finish qualifying. Dreamy scored 18 with one error in the game, and ended her sessions with 150 total shots, a strong total that bodes well for her season coming up. Finishing this group off, Boots of the Southridge Defenders steps in for Accuracy with the silver cue, the 126th player to finish qualifying. Boots dominated to the tune of 14 shots with no errors, a perfect game essentially that put her at 159 total shots, also a decent total.

The tenth segment sees Watermelon of the Pearl Surfers play 12-ball with the red cue in the last game for that event. Watermelon looked good in scoring 18 with no errors in this game. Jack of the Volcanoes appears next, shooting Accuracy as the 127th player to finish with the blue cue in hand. Jack shot 23 with no errors, for a total of 149 shots across all games, a very good series of games. Continuing along, Brownie of the Specters appears for 15-ball with the red cue. Brownie completed the game with 27 shots and two errors, right around the average for the event. The 49th player of the day is Diddley of the Lumberjacks, the 128th player to finish qualifying by playing Accuracy with the blue cue. Diddley shot 24 with one error in the game, for a total of 162 shots, a workable total. The group closes with Shelley of the Torpedoes using the red cue for Accuracy, the 129th player to complete qualification games. Shelley played excellently to score 17 with no errors, and finished her qualifiers with a total of 165 shots, a decent score.

The final group is led off by Sierra of the Stills, the 130th player to finish qualifying, using the blue cue for Accuracy. Sierra took only 15 shots, with no errors, to bring her total to 144 shots, setting her up for a very strong season ahead. Going 52nd today is Watermelon, shooting Rotation in the final appearance for the blue cue during qualifying. Watermelon hit 32 with three errors in this appearance. Watermelon gets the next game as well, picking up the silver cue for 15-ball. Watermelon struggled to 35 shots with three more errors in this game. With only two players to go, Watermelon is drawn again, marking the last game for the silver cue being Accuracy for the 131st player to finish the qualifying sessions. Watermelon shot 24 with no errors, for a grand total of 166 shots, an acceptable effort. The final player to finish, the 132nd finisher, in game #1,056, is Brownie of the Specters, using the red cue for Accuracy, and as the rack was set, the center light returned to shine on the table. Brownie shot 21 with two errors, ending with 166 total shots as well.

It appears that the final average is closer to 163 shots per player. While I don't have a specific number yet, over 21,000 shots were taken over the last three weeks of action. All of this and more will be included in the statistical analysis that will come out later this week. Game action will likely return this weekend or a week from today (Monday). Seeding and scheduling the first round for both levels is one of the items on the agenda this week. I ask for patience, as there's a lot I'm trying to tackle with all of this behind the scenes work this week. We'll be back before you know it.
