Midseason Report: Capital City Sharpshooters

The Capital City Sharpshooters are notoriously slow starters. In each of the previous two seasons, they'd hover around the 25th percentile in the league, and then turn it on in the second half. This season, things feel different, even as the roster remains unchanged in composition. The Sharpshooters are currently holding a 14-18 record, which is typical for them. Their splits show them as a 9-8 home team, which is good, while they are 5-10 on the road, which could be improved. Their mark in the Center Division is troubling, with only a 3-6 record against the weakest division in the league. Still, something doesn't quite feel right about these Sharpshooters.

The offense is not where it's usually at, scoring only 1357 a game as a team. The problems don't exactly begin with Chris, but the Sharpshooters captain isn't growing at the same rate as the league. A former MVP candidate from last season, Chris holds a 403 average to make up 30% of the offense, and at a consistency of 1.4, making him a balanced attack to lead the charge with a high dosage of power. The middle of the lineup flip-flopped this year, with Missy now batting second, and she has a 383 average that accounts for 28% of the offense. Missy is wildly inconsistent, particularly at home, and holds a consistency just greater than 0.9, making her very volatile to work with. This can be explained by her having one game over 2000, but zero games between 1000 and 2000. After her is the more stable Sprinkles, a 304 hitter experiencing a bit of a down year as she scores only 22.5% of the offense. Sprinkles isn't very consistent either, with a 1.1 in that metric, which is more acceptable on her lower average. Rounding things out is the likely retiree Dani, who is mailing it in at 265 per game, well below par. Her consistency is about 1.2, and her point share clocks in at just 19.5%. With Dani rumored to be retiring from the league, the Sharpshooters would get a compensatory pick, but with expansion looming, the pick is somewhat devalued. What we know now is that the Sharpshooters are inconsistent, have a tendency to let troubles spiral, and they are likely going to watch the playoffs from their couches for the first time in their existence.
