Midseason Report: Victoria Spurs

The Victoria Spurs reached midseason after a game against the Prestige (next report), and while their overall record isn't impressive, they have improved recently, especially on the road. The offseason saw the Spurs send Tori away to retirement, while also parting ways with Shiny, who joined the Web City Spiders. Replacing them, Kavan came over in the draft from the Freedom Cascades (who have been better without him), and Yekaterina joined for her rookie season. The Spurs have gone 12-20 so far this season. At home, they are only 3-13, but they turn into a dynamic force on the road, at 9-7 and currently winners of seven of their last eight road games to get them climbing in the standings. Playing in the West Division, the Spurs have mostly held their own, but at a 5-7 record they could be better.

The team as a whole hits 1330 per game, a decent but far from elite average offensive output. The team is led by their longtime captain, Spice, who is good for 409 points per game and an astonishing 31% of the offense all by herself. The powerful Spice has always performed well, and she has a 1.6 consistency as well, making her a premier threat in the league. Behind her is another well-tenured Spur, B. Chapman. Amid retirement rumors, Chapman has hit 326 this season, accounting for 24.5% of the team offense. Chapman has a consistency of about 1.3, so she's not overly impressing in what could be her final year. Another blonde hits next, and that is Yekaterina Vasilyeva, the rookie holding an average of 338 to make up 25.5% of the offense. Yekaterina is not a world-beater by any means, but her consistency of about 1.3 keeps her as a reliable source of offense. Where the Spurs have faltered is with Kavan, the other newcomer holding a 256 average that has squandered a number of home games. Kavan is only 19% of the offense, and he has a 1.25 consistency that is decidedly neutral. For the Spurs to make the playoffs, the home record needs help, but the road run is unsustainable, and therefore the Spurs can kiss any playoff hopes goodbye. Many changes may come in the offseason as well, but the core should be intact for next season.
