Here comes the usual weekend binge to get to the end of the league week on time. This middle section begins with...
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters are in line for the sweep, but the two teams are heading in opposite directions at this juncture in the season. Easter shot out early with 640 for Todavía, giving them a healthy foundation. Slinks proved solid in her reply, grabbing 431 for Harrison to keep it relatively close. Sierra hit 283 for the Stills, letting their led slip a bit. Twinkie II capitalized, slapping 567 to pull the Specters ahead at the halfway mark. Leonard meekly covered the deficit, adding 160 for Todavía as they become quite vulnerable. Sydney upped the Harrison lead by hitting 305 for the hosts, giving them a better advantage late in the game. Sparkles saved the day for the Stills, crushing 1193 to give them a big final of 2276 and force a massive response from the hosts. Brownie came up only slightly short, blasting 913 but leaving the Specters at 2216 in the loss. Todavía's exciting finishing gets them to 18-16, while Harrison falls to 13-19 at their midseason. Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes face a tough test against the top-ranked Eagles, who previously beat them in week 7. Goldy staked out a huge Everton lead, slamming 945 in a return to form. Smudge got some of it back, hitting 441 for Infinity. Puff III emerged from her recent slump with 487 for the Eagles, adding to the lead. Shelley accepted 346 for the Torpedoes, despite earning an optional replay. Cleo kept the lead steady, posting 297 for Everton in a serviceable effort. Gabe got Infinity a bit closer with his 424, but the deficit remains large late in the game. Blizzard tapped 271 to give the Eagles an even 200 as their final, likely good enough to win. Whiskers took 314 despite her struggles with rhythm, but the Torpedoes still lost with 1525. Everton continues to soar above the rest of the league, standing at 28-7, while Infinity falls to 12-17 as their four-game winning streak ends.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige look to get the season sweep over the Rockers, who are on their third straight game away from home. Misty suffered a bad bounce and took just 49 for Westside in a poor start. Acorn belted 995 for Lighton, establishing a massive lead for the hosts. Goatee had a ball fly over her bat when she got out of position, ending her contribution at 336 for the Rockers. Spirit pummeled 985 for the Prestige, extending their lead to untouchable levels. Midnight remains in atrocious road form, scoring a measly 42 for Westside to throw away any glimpse of hope. Twinkie I put Lighton in cruise control with a weak 36. Chicky Phil hit 308, putting the Rockers at 735 in the loss, their third straight on the road. Lydia's 129 gave the Prestige 2145 total in a huge win. Lighton jumps to 17-12, while Westside is winless on the road trip as they fall to 9-19 on the year.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: Two above-average teams meet for the first time this year. Princess hauled in 568 for Tysini, giving them a strong start. Fluffina stumbled with 192 for Maplewood, marking another sub-par home effort for the captain. Leandra cranked out 606 to pad the Hummingbirds lead effectively. Bryant erased that second bout of damage, hitting 610 to keep the Lumberjacks somewhat involved in the game. Charli got a lot of that back with her 456 for Tysini, maintaining their significant lead. Diddley couldn't keep up, taking a meager 36 as Maplewood falls far behind with a player each to go. Bright had a pathetic 12 for the Hummingbirds, giving them 1642 as their final. Cubby tried to rally, working to 606 for the Lumberjacks before an ill-timed swing ended his turn, giving them a final of 1444 in the loss. Tysini is up to 22-13 after the win, while Maplewood drops to 14-12, snapping a seven-game home winning streak.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic. After winning two weeks ago at home, the Surfers look for the sweep of the Union on the road. Watermelon made a crisp 654 for Pearl to give them a good beginning. Juno replied with 309 for Modernistic, as they trail early on. Neopolitan answered with 280 for the Surfers in a solid performance. Ms. Puppy pulled the Union back into the fray with a strong 600 to make it close at the halfway point. Wings faltered with a measly 51 for Pearl, leaving them incredibly vulnerable. Chimpy capitalized on the opportunity with 587 for Modernistic, giving them a big lead late in the game. Cowzart leveled 656 for the Surfers, forcing a response as they finish with 1641 total. Puff I sealed a Union with with 456 herself, giving them 1952 overall. Modernistic is up to 11-19 with the upset, while a three-game road win streak for Pearl ends with them going to 21-11. For the Surfers midseason report, click here.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Lumberjacks and Waves are similar in the standings, just above the red line, in their first meeting of the year. Fluffina hit a solid 343 to get Maplewood started in the game. Snuggle botched his swing, ending with 122 as Oceanside falls behind early. Bryant managed only 152 for the Lumberjacks in a poor showing. Bells ripped 486 to put the Waves in the lead. Diddley tallied 631 in a big performance for Maplewood, giving them a sizable lead. Alyssa flipped 900 to restore a lead for Oceanside, as the game turns back-and-forth in its later stages. Cubby choked under pressure, taking only 24 as the Lumberjacks lose with 1150. Pounce had 146 to ice the Waves win at 1654. Oceanside jumps to 18-13 with their ninth straight win, while Maplewood is down to 14-13 on the loss.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The first division game of the segment pits West Division teams against each other, with the Volcanoes in line to sweep. Acorn began with 431 for Lighton in a steady opening salvo. Starlight answered with 496 for Pacific, giving them a very narrow lead early in the game. Spirit put the Prestige back on top with her 256, leaving them somewhat vulnerable. Ms. Kitty punished the mistake, ripping 691 for the Volcanoes to build up a solid lead. Twinkie I made the situation more dire when she had just 96 for Lighton. Jack didn't do any better, taking a meager 51 on a poor showing for Pacific. Lydia struck 623 to give the Prestige a fighting chance as they finish the game with 1406. Leonette swatted 445 to put the Volcanoes at a win with 1683 total. Pacific goes to 20-10 on the season sweep, while Lighton falls to 17-13.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Like every beach themed horror film, it's another round of Surfers versus Sharks, the first meeting this season between the teams. Graham sliced 497 to get things going well for Eastside. Watermelon answered with 551 for Pearl, giving them the slight edge. Chelsea was nearly whistled for a violation, but was ruled legal in ending her turn at 575 for the Sharks, as well as rejecting the optional replay. Neopolitan wiped that out, smashing 637 for the Surfers to retain the lead. Taylor lost control of her turn after having to go to her backhand twice, eventually knocking her stumps out accidentally to produce a meager 83 for Eastside as the game gets away from them. Wings failed to truly capitalize on the opportunity, posting a mediocre 144 for Pearl. Niki pummeled 609 for the Sharks, forcing a response from the hosts as the visitors end with 1764. Cowzart was up to the task, hitting 596 for the Surfers to give them the win at a final of 1928. Pearl bounces back to get to 22-11, while Eastside drops to 17-15. The Sharks midseason report can be found here.
Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Tridents go with their retro gray uniforms as they face a bitter Eastern Hills rival for the first time this season. Smokey rolled his way to 702 for Diamond, starting slow but building over time. Strawberry had 274 for Pronger in a serviceable turn. Citrus hammered another 460 for the Gems as they continue to lead by a large margin. Hoot churned out 567 for the Tridents to shrink the deficit a bit. Pedey ended the threat of a comeback, demolishing 1302 to boost the Diamond lead to untouchable heights. Precious chipped 184 for Pronger, as they look downtrodden and defeated. Cassandra iced the Gems' likely victory with 249 individually for a total of 2713. Paps hit 208, leaving the Tridents at 1233 in their loss. Diamond snaps a six-game road losing streak to go to 16-18, while Pronger is the loser in their last seven games, sending them to 11-19 on the year.
Ebay Center, Queens: These teams meet for the first time this season, with the Flames playing their second top-5 team this week. Snowball put up 343 for Swordpoint to open the scoring. Crystal did exactly the same with her offense, tying the game by giving Queens 343. Dreamy hit an acceptable 272 for the Blades, which keeps the game relatively close. Kayla grabbed 286 to give the Flames a very narrow lead at the halfway point of the game. Shawn drilled 542 to give Swordpoint a more serious lead. Max gave it away, posting only 152 for Queens as they fall behind late in the game. Stealth tacked on 675 to give the Blades a final of 1832 in what should end up as a win. Paige made a valiant effort for the Flames, but her 722 put them at 1503, leaving them short of the mark. Swordpoint is back on track at 21-11, while Queens falls to 7-23. Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: Two troubled teams have their first meeting of the year. Strawberry continued to decline, hitting just 80 for Pronger this time around. Frosty stayed modest with 213 for Royal, making it a low-scoring start on both sides. Hoot knocked 665 to get the Tridents going in the right direction with a noticeable lead. Jake scored 399 for the Crowns, keeping things close at the halfway point. Precious struck 424 to keep Pronger comfortably ahead. Marsell pulled back too late on a swing, sending a ball into his wicket to end his turn at 78 for Royal, as they have fallen far behind. Paps cut 353 for the Tridents, sending them to a final of 1522 in a prospective win. Nightfur surged with 607 for the Crowns, but they took the loss on a total of 1297. Pronger sneaks away with the win to get to 12-19, snapping that seven-game losing streak, while Royal is down to 10-21.
That's all for this segment. You'll probably see a couple of midseason reports between this post and the next one as games progress into Sunday. Final rosters for the Club Cricket Challenge will be announced after the completion of Week 16 tomorrow.
