This is where things get exciting. At the end of this post, the season will be half-finished. We'll have a good idea of the quality of the teams, and we can start the trip back into the clubhouse with an eye on the playoffs. This segment starts with...
Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: Shadow popped 363 for Web City to get the scoring started in a reasonable way. Panda paid for an aggressive approach, taking only 130 for Southern at the start. Rainmane looked a bit erratic on her turn, but the result was 1037 for the Spiders, padding their lead almost excessively. Shannon got 737 back for the Monarchs on an impressive response. Sugar stayed reliable for Web City, cobbling 472 to protect their lead as the game gets late. Kirstin fumbled with 112 for Southern, allowing the game to get virtually out of reach for them. Shiny had a meager 36 to give the Spiders a final score of 1908. Nicole was batting well until an odd deflection ended her turn at 327, giving the Monarchs yet another loss with 1306. Web City continues to climb, now at 14-16, while Southern drops to 10-27 in their twelfth straight home loss and sixth league loss in a row.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders, somehow, are in line for a sweep as they host the Volcanoes, having beaten their visitors in Pacific earlier in the year. Starlight accepted an optional replay, but it cost her, as she scored just 84 for Pacific on the second try. Boots answered with 359 for Southridge, giving them the initial lead. Ms. Kitty replied with 495 for the Volcanoes, keeping them competitive with the strong effort. Debby knocked 872 for the Defenders, extending their lead at the halfway mark. Jack chipped 164 for Pacific in a middling performance that leaves them in serious danger. J. Garcia hit a modest 240 for Southridge, keeping their lead stable. Leonette had a measly 49 for the Volcanoes, sending them to the loss with 792 overall. Shaggy slapped 441 to give the Defenders a winning total of 1912. Southridge is up to 12-20 on the win, sweeping the now 20-11 Pacific side. For the Defenders midseason report, click here.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: Two Southwest teams duke it out for the first time this season. Spice took 224 for Victoria in a mediocre opener. Snowball couldn't recover it all, taking only 208 on her turn for Swordpoint to keep things close at the start. B. Chapman picked up a quick 484 for the Spurs to solidify their lead a bit. Dreamy had a bad swing for the Blades, ending with just 51 as they fall far behind. Yekaterina sliced another 359 to extend the Victoria lead sufficiently. Shawn pulled back for Swordpoint, slapping 600 to get them a bit closer with a player each to go. Kavan scooped up 234 for the Spurs, giving them 1301 as their final. Stealth had only 200 for the Blades, and they lost with 1059. Victoria is suddenly a pretty good road team, jumping to 11-19 and having won six of their last seven road games, while Swordpoint falls to 8-2 in the division and 21-12 overall.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: Another Division game takes us to the Center Division, as highly-ranked teams battle for Urban Core North supremacy. Tigerette blasted 696 for Commerce, a bit down from her recent efforts. Kiwi outpaced her, pounding 762 to give Terrace City a slight lead early on. Ice Cream fired back with 740 for the Tradewinds, keeping them firmly in the fight. Jennifer picked a bad time for a bad game, hitting just 89 as the Knights fall behind. Lionel did not let up, slamming 527 for Commerce. Oreo couldn't recover, taking only 320 for Terrace City as their hopes flicker ever fainter. Lorde iced the Tradewinds offense with 364 herself for 2327 overall. Stripes went all-in and failed with 112 for the Knights, as they lost with 1283 total. Commerce has won seven straight road games to get to 25-11, alone in second place across the league. Terrace City falls to 20-15.
Apple Park, Todavía: Back in the West Division, the Stills face their inland rivals in the Blades as two successful franchises clash. Snowball had a mild 230 for Swordpoint, not an ideal start by any means. Easter gave Todavía a slight advantage, giving them 290 as their opener. Dreamy answered with 407 for the Blades, keeping them in the fight. Sierra disappointed with only 64 for the Stills, allowing them to fall significantly behind at the halfway mark of the game. Shawn lined 644 for Swordpoint, boosting their lead again. Leonardo had 256 for Todavía, doing very little to help their cause as the last players come to bat. Stealth went with a quick 329 to give the Blades their final score of 1610. Sparkles went with 328, leaving the Stills well short of the mark as they fall with 938 total. Swordpoint is up to 22-12, while Todavía slips to 18-17.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: Slinks bumbled the opener for Harrison, scoring a meager 96 on her turn in a weak performance. Princess took 481 in a solid start for Tysini, as they take the initial lead. Twinkie II had a lackluster backhand to end her turn after settling a ball behind her bat, ending with 55 as the Specters straggle badly. Leandra dished out 711 for the Hummingbirds against her former team, giving the hosts a big halftime lead. Sydney couldn't get her bat down quick enough, and she ended with 234 when a ball took out her stumps because of the slow reaction. Charli kept up the Tysini attack, blasting 984 before ending her turn while holding a ball on her backhand. Brownie put up a strong 537 for the Specters, but they still lost brutally with 922, their fifth straight loss on the road. Bright didn't look great in being slow to swing and ending with 176, but the Hummingbirds sealed the win at 2352. Tysini is back in form at home, going to 23-13, while Harrison slides to 13-20 on the loss.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs have struggled at home, so facing the Swifts is not the best remedy for that problem. Patches lifted 760 for Boston, using her backhand and a bunch of positive deflections to lay a solid groundwork for the visitors. Spice got 391 back for Victoria in a reasonable response. Puff II slugged 1394 for the Swifts, putting their lead at a very large margin. B. Chapman had no answer for that, producing a meager 36 for the Spurs in her poor appearance. Gradley allowed Boston to enter cruise control, hitting only 199 to add to their gargantuan lead. Yekaterina was out of rhythm for Victoria, ending up with only 87 as the game gets more out of hand. Sweetheart left no doubt for the Swifts, rocking 760 to get them to a likely victorious final of 3113. Kavan attempted a halfhearted rally with 633 for the Spurs, but they lost with 1147, their fourth straight loss at home. Boston has won fourteen straight on the road and eight straight overall, regaining a piece of second place at 25-11, while Victoria is 11-20.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors lost in Pronger, but it's been a rough go since for the Tridents, who look to reverse their fortunes on a season sweep. Strawberry flipped 361 for Pronger on a respectable opening turn. Mr. Snowman had one of his rare sharp games with the bat, scoring 599 and using the backhand to keep his turn alive for Viewpoint Sound. Hoot brought himself down, dragging a ball back into his wicket to give just 176 for the Tridents, who trail at this stage. Mams accidentally sent one behind her out of bounds, but she still produced a strong 609 for the Meteors. Precious chopped 328 for Pronger, but they are losing ground rapidly as the game gets late. Zach ripped 590 for Viewpoint Sound, with all of the players so far being remarkably consistent with one another for the hosts. Paps disappointed with 72 for the Tridents, dropping the game at 937 as the sweep will elude them. Kelly's 162 sent the Meteors to 1960 in a big win. Viewpoint Sound improves to 11-16 with the win, while Pronger is scuffling at 12-20. For the Tridents midseason report, click here.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: Two teams that really need a win go head-to-head right now. Chris hammered 624 for Capital City to begin the scoring. Shadow had 369 for Web City, getting some of the deficit back. Missy guided a ball straight out of bounds in a blooper play, ending with 215 to destabilize the Sharpshooters lead. Rainmane squandered a comeback opportunity, taking just 192 for the Spiders. Sprinkles allowed Capital City to retake control, slapping a quick 492 to pad their lead. Sugar made one more campaign for CCC inclusion, belting 1038 to give Web City the lead. Dani poked 438 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a final of 1769, forcing a response from the hosts. Shiny stepped up with 376 to give the Spiders the win on 1975 overall. Web City's third straight home win propels them to 15-16, while Capital City drops to 13-17 on the year.
BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers return home to find a highly unwelcome opponent in the Eagles. Goldy unleashed 1003 for Everton in her opening attack. Misty countered with an impressive 604 to keep Westside competitive early on. Puff III sent a ball into the sky, ending her turn at 216 for the Eagles. Goatee cut the deficit down a bit, swinging 434 for the Rockers as the game tightens up at the halfway mark. Cleo proved too aggressive for Everton, adding 286 to their strained lead. Midnight failed to capitalize, allowing Westside to backslide when she hit a paltry 176 to add to their score. Blizzard managed 287 to put the Eagles at a still far-from-secure 1792. Chicky Phil failed with 119 to give the Rockers 1333 as their final. Everton takes a hard-fought win to go to 29-7, while Westside drops to 9-20 on a fourth straight loss.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The second half of the Industrial Derby that began last week will see the Shores looking for a sweep of the Tradewinds. The game will decide who occupies second in the league at the halfway point of the season as well. Tigerette was held to 395 for Commerce, her weakest road appearance of the week. Bear kept Whitewater close with his 361, setting the stage for an eventful game. Ice Cream took only 135 for the Tradewinds, leaving them highly vulnerable. Twinkie III butchered her opportunity, posting a pathetic 48 for the Shores. Lionel also faltered with just 144 for Commerce, as the game has taken a low-scoring tilt. Cheddar gave Whitewater a late with with 402 to add to their total. Lorde went with 152, forcing a minor response as the Tradewinds close at 826. Wild Thing had 385 to secure the Shores win at 1196. Whitewater takes the season sweep, improving to 13-24, while Commerce is left dazed at 25-12, with their seven-game road winning streak snapped.
A standings update on the Standings page will follow this post, as will the final rosters for the Club Cricket Challenge. Again, the short of the rules is, a player can only be promoted one level (sub to starter, B-team starter to A-team sub), and can only be demoted a level as well. For the four players currently not on rosters, they can make a roster if they are deemed good enough. Congratulations on making it halfway through the season.
