Midseason Report: Oceanside Waves

A generally complacent team, the Oceanside Waves have rarely challenged for accolades. Their top two players have been with the team for all of its existence despite lacking results. In the offseason, the Waves remade the bottom of their roster. Roxy and Americus were jettisoned to the Freedom Cascades and Atlantic Pirates, respectively. Coming on in their places were the quasi-rookie Alyssa, from the Westside Rockers, and Pounce from the Lighton Prestige. The new roster has found more success than the previous one, somewhat miraculously working their way to 18-14 on the year. The team is an odd one, with a 5-11 home record paired with a top-notch 13-3 road record. There is some doubt that the Waves can keep this up given their recent hot streak. In the West Division, the Waves are 6-3, a good mark against good teams.

The Waves as a team score about 1548 points per game, which has them in the middle of the pack for total offense. Leading the charge is their captain, Snuggle, who holds an average of 459, good for 29.5% of the offense. Snuggle has a consistency of about 1.6, making him a potent threat at the top of the lineup. Behind him is the longtime Wave Bells, who hits almost 350 per game to account for 22.5% of the offense. Bells is a bit less consistent, holding a 1.4 in that metric, but she still produces her fair share of points for the team. Behind her is a more bold offensive weapon, Alyssa, who scores almost 393 points per game. This is about 25.5% of the offense, and Alyssa also owns a consistency of about 1.7, making her especially reliable in the middle of the lineup, helping to stabilize games for the team. The last hitter is another newcomer, Pounce, who hits 347 per game to make up 22.5% of the offense as well. Pounce produces similarly to Bells, but with far less consistency, holding only a .87 with that statistic. Frequently, Pounce is all or nothing, so a lot of Waves games come down to whether he can produce or not. With this, Pounce is only reliable on the road, where his numbers look much better. At home, he's a liability, and if he regresses at all on the road, the Waves could face trouble. Still, they've never been better, and I think they'll at least get a taste of the playoffs this season.
