Midseason Report: Web City Spiders

The Web City Spiders made a single change in the offseason after a reasonably decent year last season. Out the door went Dominic, returning to the Atlantic Pirates for his second stint there, and in came Shiny from the Victoria Spurs to replace him. The results have been mixed so far, with a slow start showing considerable weight on the Spiders' overall numbers despite a recent return to dangerous form. As a whole, the Spiders are 16-16 this season, hitting midseason tied for 17th in the league. At home, the Spiders are a streaky force, holding a 10-7 record in the midst of another good run. On the road, the Spiders are not that good, with a 6-9 record making them vulnerable. In the competitive East Division, the Spiders haven't played a lot of games, but they have a 3-3 record in division games.

The Spiders are interesting, a middle of the road offense at 1549 per game. The captain of the team is Shadow, as he has been for the second year now. Shadow is at an average of 421 a game to make up 27% of the team's offense. Shadow holds a consistency of about 1.3, making him a fairly stable option atop the lineup. Behind him is the real star of the Spiders, Rainmane, who leads the team in average at 471 points per game. Rainmane scores 30.5% of the team offense on her own, and she does so at a consistency of 1.2, making her a bit of an explosive player for the team. Behind Rainmane, Sugar has made a massive improvement to get onto the Humanity/Reality Coalition roster as a sub for the CCC, and this has rewarded the team with an average of 346 for the season, good for 22.5% of the offense and a consistency of around 1.3, which falls into a very safe zone for the team. Closing out the lineup is the newcomer Shiny, who has struggled with her new team to an average of 310. Shiny is just 20% of the offense, and is hitting around 1.1 in consistency, which isn't such a bad thing given the low offense. The Spiders are an interesting case of a team. I'm going to seek out the best in them for my prediction, as I think their recent success is no fluke and they will find a way into the playoffs at season's end.
