The league will play one more week before giving way to three weeks of the Club Cricket Challenge. We begin with...
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: It's the first meeting of the season for these two teams. Princess began with a strong 546 for Tysini, giving them a solid base. Sally had only 208 for Archtown in a mediocre start. Leandra got stalled on 240 for the Hummingbirds in a rare poor effort. Sleepy B. chopped back with 400 for the Arrows, making it a bit closer at the halfway point. Charli faltered with 167 for Tysini, leaving them a bit vulnerable. Dusky had 274 for the Arrows, pulling them to 1449 and a victory. Archtown pulls off the upset to go to 12-13, while Tysini drops to 23-14.
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: Acorn scooped up 475 for Lighton on his turn, a decent opener for the visitors. Delila pummeled 793 for Atlantic in response, pacing them to the initial lead. Spirit slugged 1335 to give the Prestige a big lead. Amber let the Pirates fall behind, managing only 184 on her turn. Twinkie I tacked on 632 to the Lighton lead as they take full control of the game with a high-powered offensive show. Americus pulled in 249 for Atlantic, but they trail by a large margin as the game gets late. Lydia had a shaky turn for the Prestige, taking only 75 as they finish with 2517 overall. Dominic had a pathetic 96 for the Pirates, and they lost with 1322. Lighton surges to 18-13, now in a tie with the 18-13 Atlantic side.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts need to watch out for a trap effect as they aim for a sweep of the Monarchs. Panda slapped a quick 578 for Southern to set the tone early on. Patches broke out of her home slump with 659 for Boston, giving them a slight lead. Shannon's 108 barely covered the deficit as the Monarchs get into a bit of trouble. Puff II countered with 536 for the Swifts, extending their lead effectively at the halfway mark. Kirstin batted 346 to keep Southern in the fight. Gradley shrugged off 910 for Boston, boosting their lead to untouchable heights. Nicole covered quite a bit of ground, smashing 900 for the Monarchs, but they lost with 1932 anyway. Sweetheart went with 451 to get the Swifts to 2556, giving them the season sweep. Boston is victorious in nine straight, now at 26-11, while Southern is a poor 10-28 and losers in their last seven.
Capital City SuperCenter: The Waves seek a sweep of the Sharpshooters to regain status as the league's hottest team heading into their midseason. Snuggle posted 432 for Oceanside to begin the game with. Chris suffered a deflection and ended with 361 for Capital City. Bells slipped with 295 for the Waves, weakening their lead. Missy swung 399 to dent the deficit for the Sharpshooters, making things close at the halfway point. Alyssa had a bad game, taking just 96 for Oceanside as they stay exceptionally vulnerable. Sprinkles had 162 for Capital City, giving them a small advantage with a player each to go. Pounce's 272 gave the Waves 1095 total, forcing a response from the hosts. Dani's 232 sufficed to give the Sharpshooters a win at 1154. Capital City jumps to 14-17, while Oceanside is down to 18-14 as their six-game road winning streak and nine-game overall winning streak are both snapped. For the Waves midseason report, click here.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The two highly talented teams duel for the first time this season. Easter tapped 176 for Todavía, giving them a very weak start. Twilight had just 128 for Central, as the game is off to a sloppy start. Sierra didn't do a whole lot better in hitting 260 for the Stills, but she gave them a bigger lead. Dustin failed to capitalize on the opportunity, producing only 160 for the Warriors. Leonardo went with just 36 for Todavía on a bad swing, keeping them vulnerable. Noelle gave Central a razor-thing lead, hitting 187 to put the teams in a dead heat. Sparkles upped the ante with 631 for the Stills, placing them at 1103 as their final. Gizmo couldn't hold on long enough, taking 604 to leave the Warriors a tad short at 1079. Todavía gets back into a playoff spot at 19-17, while Central falls to 20-15 on the season.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds host a cold road side in the Specters in their first meeting of the season. Slinks had a non-committal start for Harrison, a bad choice in swings that gave the visitors only 20 points. Tigerette slumped with only 226 for Commerce, failing to successfully negotiate the cluttered pitch. Twinkie II shot back with 434 for the Specters. Ice Cream undid that damage, rocking 497 for the Tradewinds to restore their lead. Sydney got frozen with two balls on vastly different trajectories, scoring a meager 53 as Harrison is now in trouble. Lionel stumbled with 177 for Commerce in another poor effort. Brownie's wicket launched itself into the line of fire and was immediately hit, giving her only 169 as the Specters lost a sixth straight road game on a total of 676. Lorde batted 512 to give the Tradewinds a final of 1412 in their win. Commerce is still fighting near the top of the standings at 26-12, while Harrison drops again to 13-21.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: Week 17's first division game pits East foes against each other. Fluffina hauled in 404 for Maplewood to start the game. Smokey had only 141 in response for Diamond, putting them behind early. Bryant failed to secure the lead, posting 162 for the Lumberjacks in a weak effort. Citrus got it all back but not much else, scoring 164 for the Gems as they remain behind at the halfway mark. Diddley grabbed 367 for Maplewood, boosting their lead a bit. Pedey continued to make incremental progress, adding 373 to the Diamond score. Cubby's 204 gave the Lumberjacks a final score of 1137, which is not safe by any means. Cassandra fell short on the rally, hitting 298 to leave the Gems at a loss with 976. Maplewood gets a big road win to go to 15-13 and back into the playoff picture, while Diamond loses critical ground in falling to 16-19.
HP Field, Eastside: Another East Division battle sees the Sharks looking to sweep the Warriors. Twilight wasn't perfect with the bat, but her 432 marks a good starting point for Central. Graham answered with 369 for Eastside, keeping them in range early on. Dustin answered with 457 for the Warriors, building their lead up a bit more. Chelsea slugged 1264 to give the Sharks a huge lead with her remarkable performance. Noelle suffered on a bad deflection, committing to her swing and ending with a measly 20 points for Central. Taylor slapped another 587 to extend the Eastside lead in what's shaping up be their game to win. Gizmo melted with 73 for the Warriors, and they lost with 982 overall. Niki clocked 606 for the Sharks, sealing their win at a grand total of 2826. Eastside improves to 18-15 on a five-game home winning streak, while Central falls to 20-16 in another division loss.
Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles look to sweep the Defenders after an early season win in Southridge. Boots could do nothing but swing wildly after a ball got behind her, ending her turn at 219 for Southridge. Goldy came somewhat back to earth, hitting 510 for Everton to give them the initial lead. Debby got much of it back with 479 for the Defenders, keeping the game competitive. Puff III kept the Eagles in charge with her 529, protecting their lead. J. Garcia couldn't cover the deficit for Southridge, pulling in 289 on her average turn. Cleo erased that dent, scoring 304 for Everton to maintain the lead. Shaggy batted 433 for the Defenders, forcing a response as they finished with 1420. Blizzard just barely avoided contact to draw a false start replay, and then safely hit 211 to give the Eagles the win on 1554. Everton continues to lead the league, and is the first team with 30 wins, at a record of 30-7 (four games ahead of second place), while Southridge is at 12-21 after the competitive loss.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: Two expansion-era franchises meet for the first time this season. Mr. Snowman led off with a solid 400 for Viewpoint Sound. Jasmine couldn't get it all back, putting up 291 for Freedom. Mams faltered with only 152 for the Meteors, allowing them to be a bit vulnerable. Stinky got cut down on a bad deflection, ending with just 49 for the Cascades as the deficit grows. Zach was quickly overwhelmed on his turn, producing a meager 16 for Viewpoint Sound. Roxy countered with 396 for Freedom, making a game of things as the final players come to bat. Kelly did well with a cluttered pitch, persevering to 392 to leave the Meteors with a final of 960, forcing a response from the hosts. Nikolai fell short on 164 for the Cascades, putting them at a losing total of 900. Viewpoint Sound gets away with a win to go to 12-16, while Freedom slides to 18-15.
Amazon Field, Golden: The first two seasons' league leaders in the regular season have their first meeting of the year. Bear went with 463 to begin the game for Whitewater. Valencia took a bad swing and ended up at 224 for Golden as they fall behind early. Twinkie III did similarly, poking 209 for the Shores. Dusty smacked 560 to give the Pilots a lead as the game reaches half-completion. Cheddar belted 1143 for Whitewater on her turn, giving them a surprisingly large lead with the strong appearance. Strut tried too hard to get a response, ending up with a pathetic 33 for Golden, who are now in serious trouble. Wild Thing plucked 343 to give the Shores a confident final of 2158. A. Charlton hit 225 for the Pilots, giving them a losing final of 1042. Whitewater is up to 14-24, while Golden drops to 16-15 with the loss, back outside of the playoffs now.
