Midseason Report: Swordpoint Blades

The Swordpoint Blades have always been a better pool team than a cricket team, but last season saw them do poorly at both in the first year without league legend Emily at the helm. The team required a bit of an adjustment, which saw Oreo sent to the expansion Terrace City Knights in the draft, and Wild Thing taken as a fourth round selection of the Whitewater Shores. Replacing them were longtime Southern Monarchs captain Shawn and former Harrison Specter Stealth. The new team gelled instantly, but success has recently faded, with the Blades occupying the sixth spot in the league as one of many teams in the jumble below the Everton Eagles. The Blades are 21-11 on the year. Their home record of 12-3 is one of the best in the league, but they are very average at 9-8 on the road. Helping their cause is an 8-1 division record against a competitive West Division, which has many teams near the top of the standings.

The Blades do not have a great offense, averaging 1526 per game, which is a bit low given their record. The captain, Snowball, takes about 409 points per game herself, good for 27% of the offense, and it comes at a consistency of 1.6, making her a very stable producer. Behind her is another longtime Blade, Dreamy, who produces a team-leading 428 points per game, accounting for 28% of the team's output. Dreamy is consistent, marking in at about 1.4 in that metric, making her another reliable source of points. The first newcomer on the team, Shawn, is showing why he was available back in July, as his average is a paltry 326 so far this season. Shawn makes up just 21.5% of the offense, and his consistency of over 1.2 makes him a bit more rangy with his scoring, but most of it tends to be on the low end. Rounding out the lineup, Stealth adds a reasonable 362 per game to make up 23.5% of the offense. Stealth's consistency checks in at about 1.3, putting him right as an average player in the league. The team does have its share of flaws on offense, but they are good against their biggest rivals and they have done enough already to likely see playoff cricket come the springtime.
