Today should be the finale of the qualifying season for Tournament 2018. There are 33 games expected to be played, the final three putting us at 1443 for the session due to some input errors. We begin with...
Archtown Arrows veteran Dusky playing 15-ball with the blue cue. Dusky had a tough game, taking four errors with only one by intent, and she ended up at 32 shots for the game after an empty break and poor shooting late in the game. Next up, TodavĂa Stills star Sierra jumps in for Rotation with the silver cue. Sierra had nothing on the break, invalidating the results for the event, and she had 37 shots with five errors in an ugly appearance. Continuing along, Pronger Tridents sophomore Potter plays Accuracy with the red cue, the 164th player to finish qualifying. Potter had a tough game, with an empty break and no errors but 21 shots, only saved from worse by a double-pot on the final shot. Potter had totals of 166 shots and 11 errors overall. The fourth game of the day goes to Maplewood Lumberjacks veteran Bryant, who shoots 15-ball with the red cue. Bryant needed 29 shots with four errors after another empty break, doing well for his situation in another rough game. Finishing the group, Southern Monarchs veteran Pounce shoots 12-ball with the blue cue to put that event in dormancy. Pounce had a great start to his game, but he slipped up with the last ball, needing a bunch of shots to end at 19 shots after chasing the positioning.
Group two opens with Central Warriors veteran Noelle playing Accuracy with the red cue, the 165th player done with qualifying. Noelle needed 20 shots without an error after an empty break, wasting a good first run with sloppy late play. Noelle ends with 164 shots and 14 errors in the game. Moving along, Boston Swifts newcomer Ice Cream plays 15-ball with the silver cue. Ice Cream took 23 shots in this appearance, narrowly going empty on the break but also just taking one error in the appearance. The eighth game of the day goes to the Monarchs' Pounce, who returns for Rotation with the blue cue. Pounce did pretty well despite five errors, the first on the break which also saw him pot the 2. He ended the game with 26 shots, a good mark for today. Up next, the Swifts' Ice Cream is the 166th player to finish qualifying, using the blue cue for Accuracy. Ice Cream didn't get anything on the break, ending in 21 shots and no errors for totals of 164 shots and 11 errors overall. Closing the group, Victoria Spurs captain Spice makes her long-awaited return for 15-ball with the blue cue. The third group starts as Swordpoint Blades star Dreamy finishes 167th by time with her Accuracy game with the red cue. Today's 12th game belongs to Oceanside Waves sophomore Celestia, the first of her five appearances today coming in 10-ball with the blue cue. Celestia hauled in a ball on the break, and took two errors over 16 shots to finish the event pretty well. After that, Celestia ends 12-ball with the red cue. The next game goes to the Spurs captain Spice, who finishes qualifying 168th by time as she uses the blue cue for Accuracy. Spice failed to get anything on the break, and she needed two errors among her 22 shots to get through the game. She had 177 shots and 15 errors in all her qualifiers. Ending the group, the Arrows' Dusky is the 169th player to complete qualifying with the blue cue in Accuracy. Dusky showed off a bit here, making a ball on the break and staying clear of errors to complete the game in 18 shots, for totals of 164 shots and 15 errors.
Group four leads off with the Lumberjacks' Bryant becoming the 170th player to complete qualifying, using the silver cue in Accuracy. Moving along, Diamond Gems captain Smokey shoots Accuracy with the silver cue, the 171st player to finish qualifying. Smokey had a fine start, going empty on the break, but it was the slow finish that weighed him down at 22 shots despite taking no errors. Smokey ended at 129 shots and 11 errors in total. Going next, the Maplewood Lumberjacks rookie Summer is the 172nd player done with qualifying as she shoots Accuracy with the red cue. Summer left the appearance livid, going empty on an awful break and needing 24 shots and two errors to finish. Summer had totals of 140 shots and 12 errors overall. Rounding out the group, Web City Spiders veteran Sugar plays 15-ball with the blue cue. Sugar couldn't get anything on the break, needing four early errors by intent to get through the game in 30 shots.
The fifth group gets going as Oceanside Waves rookie Josie plays Accuracy with the red cue, the 173rd player to finish qualifying. Josie started well with a ball on the break, but she lacked command later on, needing 20 shots without an error to finish with totals of 168 shots and 19 errors. Royal Crowns rookie Cassie is the 174th player to finish qualifying as she shoots Accuracy with the red cue. Cassie was less fortunate, needing 23 shots and one error after an empty break in her game. Her final numbers were 159 shots and 11 errors. Continuing along, the Monarchs' Pounce finishes his qualifying 175th by time as he plays Accuracy with the red cue. Pounce smashed in a ball on the break, and while he had one error for a scratch, his 16 shots marked a good game. Pounce finished at 145 shots and 14 errors. Up next, the Waves' Celestia ends Rotation with the blue cue. Celestia had the crown jewel of her qualifying season with nothing on the break but only 17 shots and no errors in this game. Wrapping up the group, Westside Rockers star Goatee shoots 15-ball with the red cue. Goatee had a successful game, taking three errors after an empty break but getting the 3 to bump the 15 to the top side to end at 10 shots.
Group six kicks off with the Rockers' Goatee becoming the 176th player done with qualifying as she shoots Accuracy with the silver cue. Goatee couldn't get anything on the break but finished in 19 shots with no errors, for totals of 128 shots and 12 errors overall. The next player drawn is the Spiders' Sugar, who does Accuracy with the red cue as the 177th player to finish qualifying. Sugar showed a great break shot, making two balls, but one error and a fade in consistency late left her at 16 shots. Sugar totaled 162 shots and 15 errors in all her games. Following that, 15-ball with the blue cue awaits the Stills' Sierra. She did well at first, but an empty break and six errors put Sierra at 35 shots for the game. The 29th game of the day is for Sierra in Accuracy, the 178th player done with qualifying, which will be the last appearance in qualifiers for the silver cue. Sierra was a bit better here, getting a ball on the break and finishing in 18 shots without an error, for totals of 161 shots and 11 errors. The final full group closer is 15-ball with the blue cue as performed by Eastside Sharks captain Graham. Graham finished his game in 23 shots, taking one ball on the break and one early error for a scratch.
The make-up group has Graham finishing 179th by playing Accuracy with the blue cue at the front of the group. Graham got a ball on the break and took no errors, but his shaky finish left him at 18 shots, for totals of 132 shots and 6 errors. Celestia takes the last two games, with the Waves sophomore playing 15-ball with the blue cue first. Celestia did well in this appearance, getting nothing on the break but clearing the table in 22 shots with only two errors. Celestia is the 180th and final player to finish qualifying with her Accuracy game with the blue cue. Celestia had nothing on the break and no errors in this appearance, with 17 shots in the game and totals of 139 shots and 5 errors.
That's all for qualifying now. Over the next three days, I will take care of administrative tasks to review the last couple of months in qualifying and to fill out the brackets for the matchups. A reminder: the top four qualifiers in each event for each cue receive a first round bye.
