Select Cricket 2018 - Week 4

We're back in quick order for Select action. This week, the league will play all weekday mornings. We begin with...

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks play their second of an eight-game home stand with Gizmo on the bench, while the Specters sit Lexi in the third of four straight road games. Sydney set a firm tone for Harrison with 615 on the first turn, a big performance from the rising star. Graham kept the game extremely close, breaking out for 608 for Eastside to mitigate the damage. Twinkie II suffered an odd deflection, ending her turn abruptly at 129 as the Specters find their lead in danger. Chelsea mishit one of the later offerings in her game, but she had 264 to set the Sharks slightly ahead. Rudolph made a brutal rookie mistake, playing through a technical error and sacrificing a large portion of his score as he took only 138 on the mandatory replay for Harrison. Cubby had a pitiful 128 for Eastside, keeping them ahead but by a thin margin as the final players come to bat. Mitchell was bailed out by a technical error, allowing him to pick up 441 for the Specters to put their final score at 1323. Salmo came up big with 560 in response for the Sharks, securing their win at 1560. Eastside gets a lift to 2-5, while Harrison is 3-4 after the tough loss.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns sit their captain Nightfur in the last home game before a road trip, while the Lumberjacks put Bryant on the bench to start a four-game road trip. Whiskers picked up 466 for Maplewood in the lead-off role, a solid start to the game for the visitors. Kayla answered with 458 for Royal, making this another game with a close opening turn on both sides. Diddley faltered with a meager 87 for the Lumberjacks, putting them in a vulnerable position. Jake countered with 655 for the Crowns, showing no mercy as he lifts the hosts into a large mid-game lead. Gabe turned in another middling effort with 240 for Maplewood this time, keeping them at a deficit. Jeremias covered that damage with 250 for Royal, done in by a high-arcing deflected ball that he couldn't bring down on the backhand. Summer couldn't quite cover the deficit with 543 for the Lumberjacks, leaving them at 1336 total in the loss. Cassie put the game away with 631 for the Crowns, icing their win at 1994. Royal is 1-3 with their first win of the year, while Maplewood slips to 4-4.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs return from a bye week with Pounce on the bench, while Jeremias sits again as the Crowns begin a two-game road trip. Kayla showed impressive control on an early bit of pressure, but she couldn't hang on for long and fell at 186 for Royal. Avril answered with a solid 400 for Southern, struggling for pace a bit in her return to action. Jake covered the deficit with 438, getting a few fortunate deflections before watching a ball zip over his bat handle as the Crowns stay in the fight. Hoppy lost ground for the Monarchs, but her 339 keeps them in the lead at the midway point. Nightfur responded with a near-matching 338 for Royal, regaining a small lead with the effort. Panda battled with a slow start and a cluttered pitch, focusing intently on scoring his way to 532 for Southern, boosting their lead late in the game. Cassie couldn't force a response with 227 for the Crowns, leaving them at 1189 overall. Dominic smacked 800 at the end for good measure, putting them Monarchs at 2071. Southern gets a boost up to 4-2, while Royal is set back to 1-4.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors kick off a three-game home stand with Vincent on the bench, while the Specters sit Rudolph for his mental error in the last game as they close a four-game road trip. Sydney made good contact early on but eased off the pace later, posting 566 by the end of her turn for Harrison. Mams had only 126 in response for Viewpoint Sound, giving them an early deficit to battle out of. Twinkie II turned up the heat with 697 for the Specters, extending their lead significantly. Hoot didn't have the most consistent swing, but he slugged 1233 for the Meteors to put them ahead by himself. Lexi covered the deficit with 361 for Harrison against her former team, but the game remains close. Nibbles went with pace on his attack, scraping 576 for Viewpoint Sound to strengthen their lead with a player each to go. Mitchell couldn't challenge the hosts, his 168 leaving the Specters at 1792 in the loss. Dani iced the Meteors win with 539 in a no-pressure appearance, giving them a total of 2474. Viewpoint Sound is up to 3-1 on the year, while Harrison is 3-5.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Yellow Derby has its first game of the year, with the Gems sitting Citrus as they travel to face the Spurs, who have the rookie Sage on the bench for a second consecutive game. Rosalina slashed 560 for Diamond at the start of the game, a good effort from the sophomore. Spice countered with a stronger 723 for Victoria, giving the hosts the early advantage in the rivalry. Pedey shattered his pace but extended his turn on a backhand play, only to fall at 209 later on as the Gems just cover the deficit. Yekaterina had her own problems with pace, and then a deflection downed her at 192 for the Spurs, weakening their lead. Smokey chipped 295 for Diamond on his turn, keeping things competitive in the close game. Wario pounded another 745 for Victoria, boosting their lead with a player each to go. Cassandra covered the deficit with 722 for the Gems, forcing the hosts to respond as the visitors close at 1786. Strawberry met the challenge with 425 for the Spurs, icing their win at 2085. Victoria is up to 4-7 with the rivalry win, while Diamond drops to 2-5.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves are back at home, sitting Frosty for a second consecutive game, while Lumberjacks captain Diddley is on the bench for rest in the second of their four-game road trip. Whiskers had a down performance for Maplewood, taking a measly 98 points. Juno had some risky swings, but it all worked out as she tallied 711 to give Stonebridge a hefty lead. Bryant replied with 495 for the Lumberjacks, cutting into the deficit but not matching it. Hershey countered well with 520 for the Wolves, giving their lead a bit more strength. Gabe unleashed 662 for Maplewood, continuing to give them a fighting chance despite the steep deficit. Vladimir slapped 418 for Stonebridge, giving them a smaller lead with a player each to go. Summer carved out 714 for the Lumberjacks, setting their final at 1969, forcing the hosts into a significant response. Cobalt got beat on a deflection and failed backhand, his 169 leaving the Wolves short at 1818. Maplewood jumps to 5-4 with the emphatic comeback, while Stonebridge drops to 5-6.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters return home to take on the Wolves, who split the doubleheader over two sessions. Cobalt rests for the Wolves, while Mitchell rests for the Specters. Juno had a great pace but a little too much eagerness on her swings, ending at a solid 438 for Stonebridge. Sydney had a more composed effort, but her pace crumbled quickly and a deflection took her out at 296 for Harrison. Frosty butchered her turn with only 33 for the Wolves, weakening their already unstable lead. Twinkie II left points on the board with an awkward swing that went too high to stall her at 291 for the Specters. Hershey went for a double-hit, which failed him as he ended with only 139 for Stonebridge. Lexi got beat on a deflection, but she still managed to grow the lead for Harrison with 227 on her turn in the low-scoring game. Vladimir completed the collapse for the Wolves with a pitiful 42 points, their losing total resting at 652 with frustration aplenty. Rudolph put a cosmetic touch on the Specters win with 519, giving them 1333 overall. Harrison jumps to 4-5, while Stonebridge sinks to 5-7.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders try to stay perfect without Bianca in the lineup, while Summer rests for the Lumberjacks in their third of a four-game road trip. Whiskers wasted no time in earning a big lead for Maplewood, churning 674 in a productive first turn. Debby had her first bad lead-off game, a deflection doing her in at 133 for Southridge as today's session has been unusually cruel with the bounces. Diddley did alright with 298 for the Lumberjacks despite a bit of fatigue after his pool debut yesterday. Stephanie made a cut into the deficit with 670 for the Defenders, shrinking the deficit at the halfway point. Bryant couldn't play a deflection in time to save his wicket, falling at 201 as Maplewood's lead becomes vulnerable. Caitlin made a desperation save right near her wicket, and then had a successful run of flick-hits, rallying to 994 to give Southridge a large lead late in the game. Gabe had only 281 for the Lumberjacks in response, as they fall with 1454 in the loss. Hughbert attacked with 408 for the Defenders to ice their win at 2205. Southridge is up to 5-0, while Maplewood drops to 5-5.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Defenders begin a four-game road trip with their captain Debby on the bench, while the Monarchs rest Hoppy today after her pool game yesterday. Bianca had some crisp swings for Southridge, pushing her way to 487 on the opening turn. Avril made a play on her backhand, but her next swing was too jittery, bouncing a ball high to end at 184 for Southern. Stephanie pounded 840 for the Defenders in response, extending their lead significantly. Panda took 343 for the Monarchs, but they remain far behind halfway through the game. Caitlin went big again with 927 for Southridge, pushing their lead even higher in a dominant outing. Pounce put up 522 for Southern, but they know they don't have much of a chance this time. Hughbert tacked on a reasonable 510 for the Defenders, setting their presumably victorious final at 2764. Dominic was solid with 375 for the Monarchs, confirming their loss at 1424 nonetheless. Southridge stays perfect again at 6-0, while Southern drops to 4-3.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs complete a two-game home stand with Yekaterina resting, while Cassie gets the game off after her pool debut yesterday for the Crowns. Kayla got herself back on track with 722 for Royal in this appearance, setting the tone immediately. Spice struggled a bit with a cluttered pitch, falling at 286 as she took a bad angle on her last swing, giving Victoria the early deficit. Jake answered with 735 for the Crowns, more than doubling their offense with the big performance. Sage grabbed 298 for the Spurs, doing alright with pace but without finding the right groove. Jeremias shoveled 344 for Royal on his turn, surviving an early blitz to rack up that many points. Wario countered with 367 for Victoria, but they remain firmly behind in the game. Nightfur tacked on 480 for the Crowns at the end, setting their final score at 2281. Strawberry tried a rally with 575 for the Spurs, but they took the loss at 1526 total. Royal is up to 2-4 with the win, while a much more tested Victoria team drops to an equivalent mark of 4-8.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors will try to stop the Defenders, with Hughbert getting his first game off for the visitors while the hosts rest their captain Mams. Bianca wasted no time in putting Southridge ahead, blasting 1235 on the opening turn for the big advantage. Hoot answered with a good 560 for Viewpoint Sound, but they still face a steep deficit. Debby answered with 399 for the Defenders, a nice supplementary effort to keep their lead healthy. Nibbles couldn't match it, taking 359 for the Meteors as they lose a small amount of ground. Stephanie paddled another 495 for Southridge on her turn, keeping the lead steady. Vincent tried to ride a groove but lifted his third swing too high, ending at a paltry 48 for Viewpoint Sound. Caitlin returned to poorer form with 96 for the Defenders, leaving them with a final of 2225. Dani provided 367 for the Meteors at the end, their losing total sitting at 1334 in a challenging setback. Southridge jumps to 7-0 despite the late falter, while Viewpoint Sound is 3-2.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades host the Gems again, the second time in this home stand, with Stinky and Pedey resting for their respective teams. Rosalina had a series of deflections and odd angles confusing her before she fell at 302 for Diamond. Jasmine answered with a confident 575 for Freedom, giving the hosts a familiar leading position. Citrus went with pace at first, but crashed out with 130 for the Gems, unable to cover the deficit. Roxy finally broke her long slump with 587 for the Cascades, doubling their offense at the midway point. Smokey posted 512 for Diamond as a challenge to the hosts, cutting into their deficit. Nikolai had only 233 for Freedom, weakening their lead with a player each to go in the rivalry match. Cassandra went with 479 for the Gems, covering the deficit to put them at 1423 overall. Stripes chipped 372 for the Cascades in response, securing their win at 1767. Freedom's win streak hits seven games at a 7-1 mark, while Diamond dips to 2-6 in the South Mountains Derby loss.
