Elite Cricket 2018 - Week 5

We're back with a new week of Elite action. First up...

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers play the third of a five-game home stand and rest Bright while the Union sit Ms. Puppy in their second of a four-game road trip. Daisy did pretty well with 463 for Modernistic on the first turn, establishing their offense right away. Boots shot back with 515 for Pearl on the lead-off turn, putting the hosts ahead by a small margin. Puff I had a decent turn going, but she lost her pace and flicked a ball too high, ending with 240 for the Union. Watermelon saw her turn ended on a technical error, as she chose to accept 543 to pad the Surfers lead. Kodiak slammed 819 at a great pace for Modernistic, covering the deficit with his big game. Neopolitan couldn't match the effort, falling at 295 as Pearl slips behind with a player each to go. Chimpy followed up with 639 for the Union at the end, icing their offense at 2161 in their best game yet. Beth did well with 483 for the Surfers, but they fell at 1836 overall. Modernistic jumps to 3-5 while Pearl drops to 1-7, still without a home win.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Union's road doubleheader ends here, as Puff I rests against the Sharpshooters, who sit Pauline again after a nice game without her last week. Ms. Puppy didn't have much for pace but she still gathered 485 for Modernistic on the opening turn. Chris slid a bit from a quick pace early on, and a bad swing downed him at 275 for Capital City. Daisy did better than her captain, rallying to 635 for the Union to extend their lead quite nicely. Missy fought some of it off for the Sharpshooters, mitigating the damage with her 575 at the midway mark. Kodiak lost a bit of the lead for Modernistic, scooping a ball out of play to finish his turn with 359. Sprinkles had some lapses in focus, but she still put up a great game with 606 for Capital City, shrinking the deficit greatly. Chimpy set a tough challenge with 487 for the Union, putting their final score at 1966. Lorde had an unlucky deflection cut her down at 297, leaving the Sharpshooters to take the loss at 1753, a sour end to their three-game home stand. Modernistic is surging at 4-5, while Capital City takes a dip to 7-3.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves are back home after last week's record performance, although Josie joins Brownie of the Hummingbirds on the bench this time. Princess brought pace on her turn, but a ball off her backhand took her out at 279 for Tysini. Snuggle belted 1370 for Oceanside in lead-off, briefly sending the crowd into a frenzy as he too stays in great form. Leandra tried to keep up and failed miserably with a paltry 122 for the Hummingbirds. Celestia couldn't repeat her record effort, but still received heart applause as she scored a mild 271 for the Waves. Charli had a great turn going until she played through a technical error, and her replay yielded only 113 for the struggling Tysini side. Dewey answered with a big 790 for Oceanside, padding their lead greatly late in the game. Paps crumbled with 24 for the Hummingbirds, making no effort to challenge the deficit as his team falls with 538 total. Jason V. kept it simple with 320 for the Waves, setting their final at 2751 in the massive win. Oceanside takes a share of the Elite lead at 7-3, while Tysini falls to 5-6.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames take on the Union, as the visitors close a four-game road trip with Daisy getting her first rest this year, while Briana sits for the hosts. Ms. Puppy had a rough outing this time, failing to find her swing and ending up at 162 for Modernistic. Crystal answered with a much more confident 543 for Queens, giving the hosts a sizable early lead. Puff I shot back with a big 792 for the Union, covering the deficit with the strong performance. Violetta was overwhelmed early, hanging on to take a meager 87 for the Flames as they fall behind halfway through the game. Kodiak wasn't any better for Modernistic, falling with a pitiful 37 after a failed backhand poke. Kyle hauled in 474 for Queens on the counterattack, putting them ahead with a player each to go. Chimpy tacked on 701 for the Union, forcing the hosts to make a big response as the visitors closed with 1692. Hannah failed to make the response, her 240 leaving the Flames in a loss with 1344. Modernistic is even at 5-5 now, while Queens dips to the same 5-5 record.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders are back in action with Sugar on the bench, while Steven gets his first rest for the Pirates to start this doubleheader. Delila put in a good performance, lacing 591 for Atlantic at the start to challenge the hosts immediately. Shadow answered with 571 for Web City, keeping his team close initially with a good counterattack. Isabella's sophomore slump persists as she hit only 111 for the Pirates this time. Ted overcame a sophomore slump of his own for once with 525 for the Spiders, giving the hosts a nice lead at the midway point. Klaus chipped 317 for Atlantic in a decent turn, but he did not have enough to cover the deficit. Jack answered with 482 for Web City, keeping the hosts firmly ahead late in the game with his nice showing. Max got beat on a deflection off a dead ball, ending his turn at 233 for the Pirates as they fall with 1252 in their first road loss. Shiny had only 141 for the Spiders at the end, icing their win at 1719 despite the lackluster finish. Web City gets a confidence-boosting win to go to 5-6, passing the 3-4 Atlantic squad they just dispatched.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates put Delila on the bench for this one, while Charli gets much needed rest in the sixth of an eight-game road trip for the Hummingbirds. Princess wasted no time in establishing Tysini with 589 in a strong opener for the visitors. Isabella didn't come close to matching that, falling at 113 for Atlantic this time as they'll start from behind. Leandra countered with 408 for the Hummingbirds, giving them a bit more padding on their lead. Steven couldn't form a rally for the Pirates, his 213 damaging their comeback hopes even more. Brownie faltered at 115 for Tysini on her turn, weakening their lead. Klaus made a push with 561 for Atlantic, cutting into the deficit ahead of the final players' turns. Paps went big with 679 for the Hummingbirds at the back, putting their final score at 1791. Max attacked with great pace, but his 497 was not enough, and the Pirates lost with 1384. Tysini gets to 6-6, while Atlantic drops to 3-5 with another loss.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves play the third of a nine-game home stand against the Tradewinds. Lionel sits for the Tradewinds, while Celestia also rests for the Waves. Tigerette had a modest start with 281 for Commerce on the opening turn. Snuggle stayed hot with 716 for Oceanside, setting them distinctly ahead with the good outing. Taylor replied with 695 for the Tradewinds, covering the deficit for now with a firm response. Josie got beat on a deflection for the Waves, putting them behind with a sorry 42 points at the midway mark. Rosemary couldn't give Commerce any support with her 199, leaving them in a vulnerable position but still ahead. Dewey failed to get Oceanside back on track with his meager 87, allowing the deficit to grow late in the game. Niki struck 397 for the Tradewinds at the end, enough to give them a final of 1572. Jason V. made a massive rally with pace, smashing 833 to put the Waves at 1678 in a comeback win. Oceanside keeps being exciting, going to 8-3 and first place, while Commerce drops to 4-5.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers see Neopolitan take rest here, while Pauline sits for a third straight game for rest as well due to playing pool yesterday. Chris was overwhelmed at the start, twice resorting to double-hits, with the second ending his turn at 6 for Capital City. Boots had a good turn going until she swung too high, ending her turn at only 160 for Pearl. Missy covered the deficit with 209 for the Sharpshooters, but this is still an ugly set of performances so far. Watermelon got beat on a deflection at 331 for the Surfers, adding modest gains to their lead. Sprinkles covered the deficit again with a respectable 564 for Capital City, getting them to a better output level. Bright ended with 192 for Pearl, making it a close and low-scoring game at the end. Lorde cranked out 677 for the Sharpshooters in the end, putting their final at 1456. Beth made a push back with 383 for the Surfers, but they lost again at 1066. Capital City is 8-3, while Pearl falls farther to 1-8.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves play the fourth of a nine-game home stand with Dewey resting, while Hannah gets this one off for the Flames. Crystal couldn't solve the pressure for Queens early on, ending at a measly 40 points. Snuggle was no better, going on a backhand to end at 32 for Oceanside when he flicked it too high. Violetta turned things around with 801 for the Flames, her big performance giving them a large lead on the second attack. Celestia kept the Waves in the fight with 675 on her turn, but they do trail at the halfway point. Briana shot back with 584 for Queens on her turn, doing well to add to their lead with a strong supporting burst. Josie tried to make a response, but while she was brilliant on the backhand once, a second try failed and she fell at 463 for Oceanside. Kyle tacked on another 599 for the Flames, putting them at 2024 overall and asking a lot of their hosts. Jason V. was solid with 448 for the Waves this time, but it wasn't enough and they fell with 1618. Queens gets their first road win at 6-5 while bumping Oceanside out of the lead down to 8-4.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Chris gets rest for the hosting Sharpshooters, while the Hummingbirds give Leandra rest in their seventh of an eight-game road trip. Princess only had 78 for Tysini at the start, showing a bit of weakness early on to the league leaders. Missy did well in a rare lead-off appearance, clubbing 560 for Capital City to establish their lead. Charli was forced onto her backhand for the Hummingbirds and couldn't control it, her turn ceasing at a mere 24 points. Sprinkles failed to cement Sharpshooters control in the game, a deflection cutting her off at 96. Brownie got Tysini back in the fight with 521 on a good turn by the well-rested veteran. Lorde replied with 726 for Capital City, strengthening their lead with the big outing. Paps made a push with 527 for the Hummingbirds, but they took the loss at 1150 after the slow start doomed them. Pauline capped the win with 766 for the Sharpshooters, another good performance to seal their score at 2148. Capital City extends their league lead to 9-3, while Tysini predictably drops to 6-7.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers get another chance at home, without Boots this time for rest, while Wild Thing rests for the visiting Arrows. Sally had a mediocre 256 for Archtown at the start, giving them a little offense early on. Watermelon failed out of her old lead-off position for Pearl, getting too aggressive and ending at 51 points in an ugly and short turn. Ruby turned on a burst for the Arrows, slapping 535 to pad their lead nicely. Neopolitan hammered 854 for the Surfers on her turn, the big performance giving the hosts a slight lead at the midway point. Sleepy B. covered the deficit lightly with her 289, an alright showing from the steady veteran. Bright stepped up with 566 for Pearl, providing a necessary boost to their lead heading into the final players' turns. Dusky poked 472 for the Arrows, giving them 1552 overall, forcing the hosts into a small response. Beth chipped 311 for the Surfers at the end, securing their first home win at 1782. Pearl is up to 2-8 on the year, while Archtown drops to 4-7.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: Both captains sit in the Week 5 finale, as Princess will not play as the Hummingbirds end their eight-game road trip, nor will Snuggle in the middle of a nine-game home stand for his Waves. Leandra brought heat with 786 for Tysini right at the start of the game. Celestia's previous game off hasn't done much good for her, as she fell at only 66 for Oceanside this time. Charli faltered on only 57 for the Hummingbirds, weakening their lead with a bad second attack. Josie made a push with 354 for the Waves, approximately cutting the deficit in half with her effort. Brownie dealt with a cluttered pitch pretty well, wrangling 584 for Tysini to add a bit more cushion to their lead. Dewey answered with 874 for Oceanside, cutting even deeper into the deficit with a player each to go. Paps crumbled at 160 for the Hummingbirds, leaving their offense at 1587, a vulnerable position. Jason V. got beat at the end with only 87 for the Waves, giving them a loss at 1381. Tysini rises to 7-7, while Oceanside's regression sees them at 8-5.

That's all for this week of games. Premier cricket will play most or all of its week 5 action tomorrow.
