A new week of games is here for the top division, beginning with...
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots open week 5 with a doubleheader, sitting A. Charlton for this game against the Rockers, who have their captain Misty on the bench in the third of an eight-game trip. Goatee had a rough appearance in lead-off with only 164 for Westside this time. Valencia's turn looked a bit chaotic at the start, but she settled in for 495 to put Golden ahead early on. Slinks had a pacey attack for the Rockers until a deflection cut her down at 272, which made her unable to cover the deficit. Dusty put a little more cushion on the Pilots lead with her 432 at the midway mark. Midnight tried to make good plays on her backhand, but she let a ball sneak by to stall her at 567 for Westside, covering the deficit at least. Strut regained a smaller lead for Golden with a steady 376, setting up an interesting finish. Cowzart didn't notice a ball under his bat, which he pulled back into his stumps to stop at 217 for the Rockers, leaving them to lose at 1220. Sparkles had only 64 for the Pilots at the end, capping their win at 1367. Golden rises to 7-4, while Westside is down to 4-5 after the low-scoring game.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Doubles Derby is ready to go, with Strut on the bench for rest for the Pilots while Puff II gets the same treatment for the Swifts. Patches didn't have as much success as usual, having to play with subdued swings to collect 601 for Boston in a difficult opening turn. Valencia kept Golden close with 448 on her turn, just a bit behind despite hitting at a better pace. Gradley had a bad turn for the Swifts, ending at 112 after a deflection caught one of his big swings. Dusty wasn't much better, but her 240 put a big dent in the deficit at the halfway point. Sweetheart hammered 927 for Boston in response, giving their lead a massive extension with her performance. Sparkles replied with 593 for Golden to offset some of the damage, but the hosts are in trouble against their biggest rivals. Ice Cream had only 235 for the Swifts at the end, leaving them with 1875 total. A. Charlton looked to build a run but ended up at 320 for the Pilots, short of the mark at 1601 for a loss. Boston goes to 7-1, while Golden is 7-5 with the doubleheader split.
HP Field, Midland: The Predators get a rare home game and give Americus some needed rest, while Kirstin sits for the Eagles in their only game this week. Goldy served up a fresh pile of points for Everton, raking in 679 to give them a great start in the game. Shawn pulled Midland ahead with 174 on his turn, a close start thanks to the captains. Puff III answered with 400 for the Eagles, covering the deficit by a smaller margin on the second attack. Rainmane let the Predators down with a measly 84 on her turn, putting them behind halfway through the game. Cleo couldn't make an impact for Everton, falling at 72 on her turn to leave them vulnerable. Leonardo covered the damage with 457 for Midland, as they take the lead with a player each to go in a back-and-forth game. Blizzard wasted the effort for the Eagles, hitting only 49 as they lose with 1200 even. Fuchsia had only 101 for the Predators, but it was enough to take the win at 1356. Midland jumps to 4-6 while Everton falls to 3-5.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores sit Twinkie III for rest for the first time, while the Knights begin a Suburban Derby doubleheader with Oreo getting her first rest. Kiwi put in a good performance, building her pace up to smack 575 for Terrace City at the start. Bear had another disappointing start for Whitewater, hitting a pathetic 51 this time to give them a steep deficit early on. Jennifer added on with 527 for the Knights, nearly doubling their offense with the second attack. Marsell misread the spin on an offering, which glanced off his handle and out of play at 72 for the Shores. Melissa slugged 1245 in a powerful attack for Terrace City, likely cementing their lead now. Katharine had only 144 for Whitewater, their best look of the game as the home fans show some discontent. Quincy had 395 at the end for the Knights, setting their likely winning final score at 2742. Shaggy tried to make a furious rally with 890 for the Shores, but they were far short at 1157 in the loss. Terrace City jumps to 3-4, while Whitewater falls hard to 5-6.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: Quincy will sit for the Knights as they complete the doubleheader at home, while Goatee gets rest for the Rockers in the fourth of their eight-game road trip. Misty attacked at a brilliant pace, belting 1153 for Westside right at the start of the game to challenge the hosts. Kiwi had a modest 320 for Terrace City in response, unprepared to make an equal response. Slinks bounced 330 for the Rockers, keeping the lead steady with her appearance. Jennifer made a cut into the deficit with 647 for the Knights at the halfway mark of the game. Midnight maintained the lead with 359 for Westside, but they do feel a slight slipping sensation. Oreo dimmed the hopes of Terrace City, slipping up at 96 to ruin their comeback momentum. Cowzart had an ugly 33 for the Rockers, clearly not holding up well on this trip as he ices their score at 1875. Melissa couldn't repeat herself this time, falling at 112 for the Knights after a deflection, giving them the loss at 1175. Westside bounces up to 5-5, while Terrace City drops to 3-5.
Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills start a four-game home stand with Bells getting some rest, while Bandit rests for the Blades in this game. Snowball had a solid opener for Swordpoint with 400 on the first turn this time, giving them a stable foundation. Easter answered a little better for Todavía, giving them 490 for a slight lead initially. Dreamy looked more like herself in this appearance, taking 608 for the Blades to put them more firmly ahead. Sierra carved out 784 in response for the Stills, pulling them farther ahead at the midway point of the game. Stealth refused to let Swordpoint be pushed around, firing off 737 in response to cover the deficit handily. Prism buckled at 144 for Todavía, seeing the hosts fall behind with a player each to go in the high-intensity game. Jason N. didn't ease up at all for the Blades, his 614 giving them a total of 2359. Anton couldn't muster a sufficient response with 147 for the Stills, who suffered the loss at 1565. Swordpoint gets a nice boost up to 8-6, while Todavía drops to 4-7 now.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts are back home, defending their league lead against their Generations Derby rivals, the Volcanoes. Ice Cream sits for the hosts while Ms. Kitty rests for the visitors. Starlight couldn't get control of her swings, ending at 158 for Pacific in a mediocre start. Patches erupted on offense for Boston, blasting 1331 to give the hosts a massive lead early on. Twinkie I made a bold counterattack with 671 for the Volcanoes, but that only halved the deficit. Puff II fought off some of that with an acceptable 324 for the Swifts at the halfway point. Leonette put an accidental double-tap on her last swing, which pushed it out of play to end her turn at 129 for Pacific. Gradley answered with 459 for Boston, a good motion to get out of his recent scoring rut. Chicky Phil fell at 136 for the Volcanoes, who took a brutal loss at 1094. Sweetheart went big at the end with 838 for the Swifts, giving them 2952 in a massive win. Boston is 8-1 with another commanding win, while Pacific sinks to 2-2.
HP Field, Midland: The Rockers' eight-game road trip hits #5, with Cowzart getting the rest this time, while the Predators sit Rainmane for rest to wrap up a pair of home games. Misty had a dip in production with only 196 for Westside to begin this game, potentially showing a little fatigue. Shawn answered with 282 for Midland, letting a ball get away from him a bit at the end. Goatee answered with 527 for the Rockers on her turn, giving them a more stable lead on the second attack. Leonardo had a flurry of productive swings, crashing his way to 807 to restore a lead for the Predators. Slinks shot back with 370 for Westside this time, just barely covering the deficit. Americus lost control after a deflection and failed backhand, falling with 162 as Midland's lead takes a big hit. Midnight couldn't make the response, a high arcing ball evading her bat to knock her down at 122 and leave the Rockers in a loss with 1215. Fuchsia tapped 231 to end the Predators win at a total of 1482. Midland rises again to 5-6, while Westside is down to the same record with the loss.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots play their third and final game this week against the Shores. Katharine rests for the visits as they start a road doubleheader, while Dusty rests for the hosts. Bear had a firm 353 for Whitewater to lead off this game in decent form. Valencia had a decent pace at first, but slipped near the end to score 300 for Golden, giving them a small deficit. Twinkie III got caught up with a deflected hit that would stop her at 416 for the Shores, adding a bit to their lead. Strut did some big work for the Pilots, pummeling 798 to give them the lead halfway through the game. Marsell had only 298 for Whitewater, allowing them to lose traction at a pivotal point in the game. Sparkles got overwhelmed and misplayed a backhand, ending at 20 for Golden as their lead is in danger. Shaggy forced the hosts to reply with her 311 putting the Shores at a final of 1378. A. Charlton looked unsteady at first, but she settled in with 409 to give the Pilots a win at 1527. Golden bounces back from an earlier loss to get to 8-5, while Whitewater is down to 5-7 with this loss.
Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills sit Anton for performance in the second of a four-game home stand, while Marsell is out for the Shores as they finish the road doubleheader. Bear hit 471 for Whitewater this time, a fairly sturdy performance from the struggling captain. Easter answered with 416 for Todavía, doing her part to keep it close even if she failed to meet the first challenge. Twinkie III picked up 353 to add to the Shores lead, which weakened just a bit on the second attack. Sierra stepped up with 460 for the Stills, pulling them narrowly ahead in a close game halfway done already. Katharine took 328 in her return to the Whitewater lineup, helping them to regain the lead for now. Bells clubbed 578 for Todavía to put them farther ahead late in the game with a nice performance. Shaggy fired back with 694 for the Shores, forcing the hosts to reply to her side's final score of 1846. Prism answered with 499 for the Stills, enough to give them the win at 1953. Todavía takes an exciting and close win to get to 5-7, while Whitewater drops to 5-8.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes are back at home to take on the Rockers in their sixth of an eight-game road trip. Chicky Phil sits for the hosts against his old team, while Midnight rests for the visitors. Misty is certainly fatigued for Westside, taking only 8 points at the start of the game. Starlight has struggled to find her touch this year, ending at 160 for a minor Pacific lead here. Goatee provided a more sturdy effort with 608 for the Rockers, giving them a nicer look at the lead. Ms. Kitty had to replay for a technical error and a false start and still only managed 194 as the Volcanoes fall behind. Slinks added a solid 419 for Westside on her turn, building their lead to a more confident level. Twinkie I went off with 958 for Pacific, a great pace fueling her burst to regain the lead for the hosts late in the game. Cowzart couldn't make a strong enough answer to that, his 176 leaving the Rockers at a loss with 1211. Leonette gathered 512 to ice the Volcanoes win at 1824. Pacific is up to 3-2 now, while Westside drops back to 5-7.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The week ends as the Rockers make their seventh stop on the trip, with Slinks finally getting her rest. Gradley will get rest for the Swifts as well. Misty crumbled again with 33 for Westside, unable to keep up with the demands of the week. Patches got her bat caught on a ball, but only after a few theatrical hits helped keep her going to score 530 for Boston at the start. Goatee ripped 1094 for the Rockers this time, giving them a fighting chance even after their slow start. Puff II answered with 510 for the Swifts, keeping things close at the halfway point. Midnight slacked off with 176 for Westside, putting their advantage in a vulnerable position. Sweetheart jumped at the opportunity for Boston, hauling in 710 to put them ahead late in the game. Cowzart couldn't get enough back with 337 for the Rockers, and they lost again at 1640. Ice Cream capped it with 560 for the Swifts, keeping them balanced in the win with 2310. Boston surges to 9-1 on the year, while Westside is down to 5-8.
That's all for this week. Monday will see the start of Week 6 with Select action, following a standard pattern for the upcoming week. Qualifiers return tomorrow with Day 25.
