UPCL Cricket - Week 20 Part 3

The final segment of week 20 is here, beginning with the end of a tripleheader in...

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige return home to finish their trio of games, fighting dejection against a hungry visitor in the Tradewinds. Tigerette started Commerce off pretty well, striking a solid 548 to give them a good foundation. Acorn was happy to be home, but maybe a bit too much, as an aggressive swing ended his turn at 320 for Lighton, putting them in a familiar trailing position. Ice Cream made the most of her turn while fighting a cluttered pitch, picking up 417 to pad the Tradewinds lead. Spirit couldn't adjust in time to hit a ball that hung in the air, watching it roll off the back of her bat to end her turn at just 75 for the Prestige. Lionel left no doubt as to Commerce's dominance with his 989, doubling their offense with the effort. Twinkie I couldn't make any progress for Lighton, ending at 266 in a mediocre turn. Lorde tacked on a solid 400 for the Tradewinds, giving them 2354 in what should be a win. Salmo ended on a paltry 171 for the Prestige, giving them 832 in a brutal loss. Commerce rises to 16-23, while Lighton crashed to 17-26 with a sixth straight home loss.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters end a seven-game home stand with a doubleheader, with Northeast Division rivals, the Central Warriors, first in line. Twilight got flustered with a deflection, ending her turn on the next offering at 208 after a bad backhand ended the Central captain. Sydney countered with 487 for Harrison, not earning a huge lead but a noticeable one. Dustin bashed a big 893 in his reply for the Warriors, giving them a larger second lead with the good performance. Twinkie II fired back with 722 for the Specters, enough to give them a small lead at the midway point. Mario barely covered the deficit with 187 for Central, a poor outing endangering their chances at the game. Lexi gave the Harrison lead a mild extension with her 260, keeping them ahead as the final players come to bat. Gizmo popped up with 411 for the Warriors on his turn, bringing their final to a less-than-safe score of 1699. Sugar stumbled at 224 for the Specters, costing them the game as they finish with 1693. Central survives a very close call to get to 26-12, while Harrison falls to 16-27.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters complete the home stand with a visit from the Cascades, who are building a little road momentum. Freedom's Jasmine had a bit of a disappointing backhand as she tried and failed to save her turn, ending with a middling 271. Sydney replied with 439 for Harrison, again giving the hosts the initial lead by a noticeable margin. Stinky didn't put up much of a fight for the Cascades, bowing out at a measly 63 in a terrible appearance. Twinkie II couldn't keep her swing tight, ending at a meager 129 for the Specters, who still hold a small lead. Roxy couldn't cover the deficit for Freedom either, coming up short at 204 in the low-scoring game. Lexi offered up a bit of padding for the Harrison lead, batting a strong 535 to keep them in control. Nikolai sealed the terrible loss for the Cascades, hitting 98 individually to give them 636 total. Sugar bundled her way to 423 for the Specters, bringing their winning total to 1526. Harrison is now 17-27, while Freedom drops to 12-19.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades end a three-game home stand facing the talented Rockers, whom they will also meet on the road next week. Misty received and took an optional replay for Westside, improving to 608 to start them off very well. Snowball got precisely half of it back with 304 for Swordpoint against her best friend's team. Goatee carved out a strong 804 for the Rockers, padding their lead with the wonderful performance. Dreamy tried to keep the Blades going, scoring 648 to minimize the effects of the second attack against them. Midnight tripped up with 211 for Westside on her turn, weakening their lead at a critical point in the game. Bandit wasted the chance to help Swordpoint catch up, producing only 150 on a poor turn from the rookie. Slinks also fell apart quickly, unraveling at 75 for the Rockers to leave them with 1698 total. Stealth couldn't overcome the deficit for the Blades, exiting at 408 to give them 1510 in a tough loss. Westside gets going upward again to 26-15, while Swordpoint hopes their departure from first overall is temporary at 31-14.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves return home to host a hungry Surfers team, which takes a mini-tour of the Eastern Hills for a pair of road games. Watermelon did alright for not having a solid swing, ending at 489 as a ball rolled off her backhand and into the wicket. Juno worked at an excellent pace for Stonebridge, putting them ahead as she uncoiled 626 for the hosts. Neopolitan narrowly covered the deficit for the Surfers with her 179, but they are not out of trouble yet. Frosty hammered back with 905 for the Wolves, padding their lead significantly at the midway mark. Boots tried to offset some of the damage done, rallying for 694 to pull Pearl back into the game. Cobalt weakened the Stonebridge lead with a poor turn, hitting just 157 to leave the hosts a bit vulnerable late in the game. Wings didn't have enough pace or points to help the Surfers, falling at 266 to leave them in a loss with 1628. Prism supplied 340 for the Wolves to ice the game at 2028 in their win. Stonebridge rises to 17-22, while Pearl drops to 18-20, slowly reducing their chances at a playoff spot.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige need to recover from a recent tripleheader sweep, but the Volcanoes have eyes on a season sweep and first place if they can win. Starlight had a brutal start for Pacific with 138, setting them with a low offensive beginning. Acorn answered with 564 for Lighton, giving them a much more stable start to work with. Ms. Kitty couldn't get control on her turn either, ending at a paltry 96, which hurts the Volcanoes even more. Spirit went big for the Prestige, belting 912 as the day continues to go well for second hitters. Leonette charged back with 860 for Pacific, but they remain noticeably behind even after the good showing. Twinkie I acrobatically dealt with a series of tough offerings, but the last one clipped her handle, ending her effort at 132 for Lighton. Chicky Phil couldn't pull off a rally, falling at 66 as the Volcanoes lose with 1160. Salmo capped the losing-streak-breaking Prestige win with 433, giving them 2041 to snap the six-game skid. Lighton rises to 18-26, while Pacific drops back into fourth place at 29-14.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: The Eagles look to snap an eight-game home losing streak, hosting the currently-dethroned Blades as they start a three-game road trip. Snowball was happy a technical error wiped out her first error, and she replaced it with 488 for Swordpoint at the start. Goldy countered with 823 for Everton, doing a great job to establish the hosts in the lead for now. Dreamy covered the deficit for the Blades, batting 568 in a solid performance from the star. Puff III fought it off with 470 for the Eagles, but their lead has weakened at the halfway mark of the game. Bandit came up short again for Swordpoint, hitting a meager 64 to keep them at a deficit. Kirstin also wasted a turn for Everton, hitting a pathetic 12 when she could have solidified their lead late in the game. Stealth made a rally with 650 for the Blades, bringing their final score to 1770 for the game, which leaves it too early to tell. Blizzard sealed the Eagles win with 495 in a spectacular rally that set them at 1800 overall. Everton is out of their funk, going to 23-18, while Swordpoint falls again to 31-15.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes need to find their feet, and facing the last-place Crowns should allow them to do that. Nightfur launched a firm attack with 594 for Royal to open the scoring in good form for the visitors. Smudge fought off some tough offerings with poise for Infinity, drilling 782 to give the hosts the initial lead. Jake countered with 464 for the Crowns, doing his part to cover the deficit and put pressure back on the hosts. Solaris failed to keep up for the Torpedoes, bowing out with 192 as the hosts trail at the midway mark. Kayla found a nice groove for Royal, riding it to 737 to pad their lead significantly with the performance. Whiskers got a favorable judgement from the referee on a deflected ball, and then cleared her cluttered pitch to end at 416 for Infinity, who still trail by a decent margin. Hannah faltered at 164 for the Crowns, giving them a final score of 1959. Mr. Snowman flicked 568 for the Torpedoes, coming up a point short at 1958 in the most heartbreaking loss of their season. Royal is shocked they held on to get to 12-29, while Infinity collapsed to 24-19.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts are the lucky team to host the Lumberjacks at the start of a four-game road trip as they try to snap a recent run of failure. Fluffina could only hang her head as she misplayed a deflection to end on 162 for Maplewood to open the game. Patches likely locked up a Boston win before the game even got going, smashing a satisfying 2096 to give them a likely insurmountable lead. Diddley made no move to change course for the Lumberjacks, bailing at a weak 112. Puff II decided to put the Swifts on cruise control, tapping 128 to make a mild impact in her appearance. Bryant made the Maplewood attack a bit more respectable, swatting 559 to get them off the ground a bit. Gradley showed no mercy for Boston, going out of his way to match results by scoring 564 on a good and crisp turn. Waluigi fell with 96 for the Lumberjacks, bringing their final score to 929. Sweetheart gathered an extra 579 for the Swifts, bringing their winning mark to 3367. Boston ascends to 26-14, while Maplewood crashes to 12-28.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds are looking to be out of the race now, but the Tridents aren't as they start a four-game road trip in the Urban city. Precious played at a dangerously low pace for Pronger, and she couldn't rise up enough, ending on 237 in a poor start for the visitors. Tigerette couldn't take full advantage for Commerce, as a deflection stalled her with 249. Zach covered the deficit without issue, but fell earlier than expected at 329 when a ball got under his bat. Ice Cream couldn't do anything to save her turn from a high-arcing ball that landed square on her wicket to stop her at 147. Spot found his way a bit better for Pronger, smacking 529 to give them a stronger lead. Lionel fired back with a huge 891 for Commerce, covering the deficit to give the hosts a lead late in the game. Potter failed to get the Tridents back in front, falling at 87 to leave them with 1182 in the loss. Lorde produced a measly 45 for the Tradewinds, sealing their win at 1332. Commerce's surprise win carries them to 17-23, while Pronger falls back to 19-17.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters look to earn a season split as they host the Blades in one of their weakest moments of the season in this Heartland Derby/Southwest Divisional. Snowball didn't have the strongest of starts for Swordpoint, hitting a modest 280. Chris immediately applied pressure with 801 for Capital City, giving the hosts a sizeable lead. Dreamy didn't leave anything to chance, firing back with 912 to restore a minor lead for the Blades. Missy attacked with pace and fantastic placement to wrangle 705 for the Sharpshooters. Bandit held up well for Swordpoint despite recent fatigue concerns, collecting 681 to cover the deficit again. Sprinkles cracked at 162 for Capital City, leaving them in a trailing position with a player each to go. Stealth put up 359 for the Blades, giving them a final of 2232, which leaves a lot to be decided in the final turn. Nicole couldn't pull it off for the Sharpshooters, ending at 319 to give them 1987 in the loss. Swordpoint gets a much needed recovery win to go to 32-15, while Capital City drops to 22-22.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles have played a big role this week, toppling one league-leader and now getting a crack at the newest one when the Pilots come to town to end the week. Valencia didn't get great contact on her turn, falling off at 257 in a middling start for Golden. Goldy shot back with 710 for Everton, giving the hosts the initial lead with a much stronger effort. Dusty successfully went to her backhand three times for the Pilots, but her low pace didn't help much, as she scored 379 and failed to match the deficit. Puff III kept the Eagles in charge with 480, extending their lead at the midway mark. Strut put a good dent in the deficit for Golden with 519 on his turn, making things interesting as the game progresses toward the finish. Kirstin got beat on a wicked deflection at 129, weakening Everton's lead at a terrible time. A. Charlton failed for the Pilots at 89, sealing their loss with 1244. Blizzard kept it simple, ending on 328 to bring the Eagles to their final score of 1647 in the win. Everton seems to resent teams occupying the spot they held for so long last year, improving to 24-18, while bumping Golden aside at 25-12.

That's it for the recent three-weeks-in-one binge on Cricket. The standings will be updated soon, and the players of the week will be named on Twitter @UnitedPCL in short order. As we play through an expected 24-day Second Round of pool, we will try to get a league week of cricket in for every four or five days of pool. After the round, I do expect another, shorter, break to be taken for more cricket.

UPCL Cricket - Week 20 Part 2

The middle segment of week 20 is underway, beginning with a whopper of a game in...

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades lead off a tough three-game home stand against the Warriors, who set out on their own three-game road trip. Twilight got off to a decent start with 459 for Central in the opening turn of the game. Snowball shot back with 635 for Swordpoint, giving the hosts the early lead with a great outing. Dustin put up a good fight for the Warriors, slashing 505 to cover the deficit for now. Dreamy got beat on a deflection, cutting her down at 206 as the Blades fall behind at the halfway mark against a dangerous opponent. Mario didn't make it easy on the hosts, collecting 521 for Central on a reasonably good turn from the rookie. Bandit bumbled his turn for Swordpoint, bouncing his way to 211, which allows the deficit to grow a little more. Gizmo was relentless for the Warriors, scooping up 614 to set their final score at 2099. Stealth couldn't do much on his turn, taking 256 to leave the Blades in a loss with 1308. Central's big win takes them to 24-12, while Swordpoint slides to 30-13, just hanging onto the league lead at this point.

Nike Field, Commerce: The C-Line Derby sees the Tradewinds end a five-game home stand against the Sharpshooters, who finish off a brutal four-game road trip. Chris had to aggressively protect his wicket in this appearance, slapping 567 for Capital City in a successful outing. Tigerette made it a virtual tie early on, hitting 566 to keep Commerce within a point after the first turn. Missy showed even more strength for the Sharpshooters, clubbing 798 to give them a bigger second lead. Ice Cream replied with a good 599 for the Tradewinds, keeping them in range at the halfway mark. Sprinkles wiped out that previous opposing attack with her 614 for Capital City, maintaining their lead effectively. Lionel lost a bit more ground for Commerce, producing 447 in a decent effort. Nicole had a misstep for the Sharpshooters, ending on 194 to give her side a final score of 2173. Lorde saw her pace crumble as she couldn't stop dragging a ball around, ending at 239 to result in a Tradewinds loss with 1851. Capital City gets a needed end to their seven-game road losing streak, going to 22-20, while Commerce sinks to 15-23.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers will need to find their home form if they have any hope of topping the hot Warriors. Twilight didn't play her cleanest game for Central, but she was pacey enough to score 680 in a nice start for the visitors. Watermelon hung on for quite awhile despite looking out of control, putting up 441 to keep Pearl in the fight early on. Dustin provided a nice supporting run of 623 for the Warriors, keeping their lead strong. Neopolitan couldn't match the result, getting good pace but not enough time as she scored 416 for the Surfers. Mario kept Central flying high with a big 719 on his turn, as the rookie extends the visitors' lead one more time. Boots countered with a crisp 759 for Pearl, keeping them at a distant but plausible striking range before the final players take their turns. Gizmo provided another 519 for the Warriors, a good mark to leave them with a final of 2541. Wings made a furious rally with 750 for the Surfers, but they fell short at 2366. Central survives the late scare to go to 25-12, while Pearl drops to 18-19 on the year.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns look to snap a five-game home losing streak against a simmering-hot Monarchs side that hits midseason with this game. Panda had a great pace going for Southern, but a late fade brought him down at 599 in a still-good performance. Nightfur had an awful start for Royal, hitting a measly 64 that sees them start from behind. Hoppy added on for the Monarchs with 578 from her turn, another good mark to help the visitors along. Jake made a charge for the Crowns, bashing 858 to shrink the deficit significantly at the midway mark. Pounce staved off the hosts' attacks with 697 for Southern, keeping their lead solid as the game gets to its later stages. Kayla faltered at 225 for Royal, weakening their chances of a comeback with a player each to go. Shannon froze up on her turn, ending with a paltry 99 for the Monarchs, icing their score at 1973. Hannah couldn't rally for the Crowns, grabbing only 215 as they lost with a final score of 1362. Southern continues to rise at 14-21, while Royal is down to 10-29 with the loss.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers look to keep up their good play against a Shores team thriving under a recent boost in playing time. Bear kept up his recent improvement on the road, batting 582 to give Whitewater a strong foundation to build on. Misty has been anything but steady for Westside lately, ending on a deflection at 305 this time as they'll start from behind in the divisional. The Shores continued to attack, with Twinkie III hitting a strong 512 to pad the lead pretty well. Goatee played too aggressively, quickly falling at 160 for the Rockers, who are behind significantly now. Marsell performed a smooth backhand to keep his turn going for Whitewater, ending at 351 in an acceptable outing. Midnight gained a bit of ground with 561 for Westside, but they remain at a deficit with a player each to go. Shaggy didn't have much for pace in hitting 312 for the Shores, ending their offense at 1757. Slinks got beat on a bad bounce at 57, leaving the Rockers with a loss at 1083. Whitewater continues their climb to 16-13, while Westside drops down to 25-15.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles hope to sweep the Nighthawks and end a seven-game home losing streak, while the Nighthawks play their ninth of a ten-game road trip. Peach contributed 423 for North Modernistic in a decent start to the game. Goldy had to play a double-hit, and a ball just got too high, ending her turn early at a measly 12 points for Everton. Luigi would have preferred a bit more than 441, but he'll take it as the Nighthawks continue to lead the game. Puff III managed to keep the deficit steady with 455 on her turn for the Eagles, but they need to make a move in the second half. Cheddar hopes that her 775 for North Modernistic is enough to secure the game for the visitors. Kirstin fired back with 722 for Everton, doing everything she could to keep them in striking distance. Bright had a jittery 25 for the Nighthawks, leaving them a bit vulnerable with a final of 1664. Blizzard fell short with 304 for the Eagles, leaving them with an eighth straight home loss at 1493. North Modernistic continues to survive on this trip, going to 24-22, while Everton slides to 22-18 with the loss.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds reach midseason in the third of a five-game home stand, facing the regressing Sharks. Chelsea had a rough start for Eastside, hitting only 157 after being unable to calibrate her swing just right. Princess also started slow for Tysini, picking up just 185 to give them a tiny lead at the start of the game. Taylor answered back with 368 for the Sharks, giving them a better second attack. Leandra slugged the Hummingbirds far ahead, going big with 1352 on her turn to give them a respectable lead. Niki fired back with pace for Eastside, pummeling 1297 to cover the deficit with an amazing comeback effort. Charli kept the offense blazing for Tysini, carving out a massive 1212 to restore the lead for the hosts to its full strength. Paps couldn't keep up with 383 for the Sharks, setting them at a fiery losing mark of 2205. Brownie had to do a mandatory replay after playing through a technical error, and she saw a slight dip to 425 for the Hummingbirds, who won with 3174. Tysini improves to 15-20, while Eastside is down to 16-22 on the year.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs hope their home success can continue in the fifth of seven straight at home against a tough Predators team scheduled to pay them a visit. Shawn is not looking to make it easy, pounding 710 for Midland right at the start of the game. Spice picked a bad game to have a downturn, putting Victoria behind with her 346 this time. Rainmane couldn't stop a low, deflected ball, ending at a meager 96 for the Predators that leaves their lead vulnerable. Yekaterina nearly covered the deficit for the Spurs, hitting a sturdy 456 to make it close at the halfway mark. Leonardo provided a very firm rebuttal for Midland, drilling 740 to restore a healthy lead for them. B. Chapman stood up with 883 for Victoria in response, giving them the lead with a player each to go in a close game. Fuchsia covered the deficit with 455 for the Predators, giving them a final score of 2001 in a high-offense game. Wario tried to rally to match it, but ended early at 130, giving the Spurs a loss with 1815. Midland improves to 22-19, while Victoria sinks to 20-21.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades play their second of a three-game home stand, while the Nighthawks end their second ten-game road trip of the year against the league leaders. Peach made an aggressive turn work out for North Modernistic, hammering 722 to give them a nice start. Snowball couldn't fully close the gap for Swordpoint, but she did produce 687 to keep them close. Luigi couldn't keep up with the pace of the game, ending at 199 for the now-vulnerable Nighthawks. Dreamy powered her way to 607 for the Blades in a strong secondary attack to pad their lead. Cheddar attacked with pace until she couldn't get to her backhand in time, ending on 341 for North Modernistic. Bandit mostly matched that with 304 for Swordpoint, although their lead weakened slightly with his effort. Bright never found his pace for the Nighthawks, bailing at 159 to leave them at 1421 in the loss. Stealth chipped another 298 to give the Blades 1896 in the win. Swordpoint rises to 31-13, while North Modernistic slips back to 24-23.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters have struggled lately, but a visit from the Crowns could turn things around. Nightfur got Royal going very slowly, collecting only 217 in a poor turn from the beleaguered captain. Chris answered pretty convincingly with 503 for Capital City, staking out a noticeable lead with the effort. Jake couldn't pull off a backhand spike, ending at a meager 93 for the Crowns, who fall farther behind now. Missy didn't add a whole lot for the Sharpshooters, putting up just 160 in a poor turn from the veteran. Kayla managed to lightly cover the deficit with 447 for Royal, giving them a chance to put up a fight. Sprinkles pulled Capital City to a safer lead with 512 on her turn, doing her part to keep them in charge. Hannah covered the deficit with 562 for the Crowns, forcing a response from the hosts as her side closed at 1319 overall. Nicole watched one of her swings too long, causing her to be late on the next one, ending her turn at 33 as the Sharpshooters lose with 1208. Royal pulls off a surprising win to go to 11-29, while Capital City is 22-21 after the late blunder.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows host the Prestige, who play a tripleheader in a test of their resolve and fitness. Acorn appeared to try to save some energy for the later games, hitting only 263 for Lighton to lead things off here. Sally absolutely punished the cautious approach her opponents employed, blasting her way to 2065 to give Archtown a massive advantage. Spirit elected to just go through the motions for the Prestige, tapping 245 to add to their lost cause offense. Sleepy B. couldn't get a handle on her turn with 36 for the Arrows, but their lead is not in any immediate danger. Twinkie I replied with 568 for Lighton, trying to provide a threatening attack to shrink the deficit. Ruby had 112 for Archtown, again adding a small amount to the lead as the hosts don't fear the visitors in this one. Salmo added a good 521 for the Prestige, but they only made their losing total more respectable at 1597. Dusky got beat on a deflection at 111, ending at 2324 for the Arrows. Archtown didn't have to do too much to win, going to 23-20, while Lighton drops down to 17-24 with the loss.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Prestige's middle game of their tripleheader is a Southwest Divisional against the Spurs, in their sixth of a seven-game home stand. Acorn wasn't much better for Lighton in this game, contributing 281 to start the offense. Spice levied another heavy game on the visitors, paddling her way to 719 to give Victoria a firm opening lead. Spirit was not able to cover the deficit for the Prestige, faltering at 256 as they remain behind again. Yekaterina answered with a big 576 for the Spurs, padding their lead at the halfway mark of the game to really stick it to their rivals. Twinkie I made things worse for Lighton, slipping up with only 96 as they fall farther behind with such a weak performance. B. Chapman came up weak with 24 for Victoria as well, but they maintain a significant lead with a player each to go and the hosts are not worried. Salmo made a push with 522 for the Prestige, but came up short at 1155 in the loss. Wario stumbled at 69 for the Spurs, but they won with 1388 in total. Victoria gets the division win, however sloppy, to go to 21-21, while Lighton looks done at 17-25 and fatigued.

The Prestige will finish their tripleheader to lead off Segment 20.3, coming up next live on Twitter @UnitedPCL.

Tysini Hummingbirds at Midseason

The Tysini Hummingbirds made a minor change in the offseason, letting Bright go to the North Modernistic Nighthawks and picking up Brownie from the Harrison Specters in his stead. Returning a superstar in Princess, the rookie of the year Charli, and dependable star Leandra, things should have gone better, but the Hummingbirds find themselves at just 15-20. They are positive against the Southwest Division at 4-3, but 9-11 at home and 6-9 on the road, struggling to find traction throughout the year. The Hummingbirds produce about 1670 points per game, so the issue has been more of bad luck than poor play. Charli and Leandra lead the offense, each scoring around 450 per game. They also do most of their damage at home. Princess is not bad either, but not at the MVP level that we've come to expect from her, hitting only 400 per game. Brownie rounds out the team at 360 per game, which might be enough to stick beyond this year. Charli is the most explosive player, but no one stands out in that regard. The Hummingbirds are trending up, but it's questionable if they will have enough time to make the playoffs, or how far they could go if they do. It's just not their year.
