UPCL Cricket - Week 17 Part 3

This is the final segment of the week, and we begin with...

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves open the segment with a tough task in hosting the Blades in their second of a three-game road trip. Snowball stumbled to 186 for Swordpoint at the start, an unusually poor effort from the visiting captain. Snuggle didn't make her pay for it, as he hit a measly 36 for Oceanside in a slow start to the game. Dreamy shoveled 186 more for the Blades, a quadruple-hit to the 1s killing her pace before she sent a ball out of play. Caitlin couldn't capitalize for the Waves, hitting a game-leading 258 while still failing to cover the deficit. Bandit took over for Swordpoint, slashing 688 to give them a more meaningful lead at a critical point in the game. Celestia shot back with 535 for Oceanside, a good performance but not enough to keep them from slipping again. Stealth produced 416 for the Blades on his turn, leaving them at 1476 overall. Dewey chipped 362 for the Waves, but they fell with 1191 in a tough loss. Swordpoint edged their way to a win and a 27-10 record, while Oceanside sinks to 22-20.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors try to maintain their home success against an inconsistent Defenders side. Bianca had a fairly steady performance for Southridge in the lead-off role, batting 456 to open things up. Central's Twilight had a rare dud effort, as a bounce forced her into a backhand that went off-target to end her turn at 48. Debby tried some fancy bat work to overcome an odd deflection, but she couldn't corral a pacey ball and ended on 361 to pad the Defenders lead. Dustin drilled 714 for the Warriors, cutting deeply into the deficit at the halfway mark. Stephanie tripped up at 244 for Southridge, making their lead more vulnerable as the hosts come charging toward them. Mario cover the deficit for Central, batting 400 before a deflection cut his turn short. Hughbert forced a response with 192, but the Defenders are not in a good position at 1253 for their final score. Gizmo, while not flashy, got the job done with 339 to bring the Warriors to a winning total of 1501. Central is up to 20-10 on the year, while Southridge slides to 16-23.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes hope to sweep the Specters and regain some traction at home, while the Specters want the split and a boost in their last road game for awhile. Sydney gathered 408 for Harrison at the start, a good mark from the burgeoning star. Smudge couldn't solve her home slump this time, contributing only 245 for the trailing Infinity side. Twinkie II crushed 1114 for the Specters on her turn, boosting their lead in a big way with the performance. Solaris tried to assemble a rally for the Torpedoes, but he still lost ground despite scoring a strong 609. Lexi weakened the Harrison lead just a little bit when she had 223 on a disappointing turn. Whiskers made minor progress with 448 for Infinity, but they remain a long shot to complete the comeback this time. Sugar couldn't really secure the game, swiping her way to 227 on a shaky turn to give the Specters 1972 total. Mr. Snowman fell with a measly 74 for the Torpedoes, ending at 1376 in the loss. Harrison earned the split to get to 15-22, while Infinity is the opposite at 22-15.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors hope to go perfect on their four-game home stand, and the road-weary Knights hope to snap out of their funk to prevent that. Kiwi set Terrace City up well with 561 on the opening turn for the visitors. Mams just beat that mark, carving out 570 for Viewpoint Sound to take the initial lead with. A fast-paced offering caught the Knights' Jennifer off-guard, and her attempt to go backhand let her down with 281 for the now-vulnerable Knights. Hoot looked like he could have gone for more, but ended at 312 as the Meteors gain a slightly larger lead. Oreo rattled off a strong 602 for Terrace City, giving them another strong lead. Nibbles can't break the slump he's in, ending at just 217 for Viewpoint Sound, who trail late in the game. Stripes tallied 387 for the Knights at the end against her old team, setting their final score at 1831. Dominic came up well short at 75 for the Meteors, leaving them with the loss at 1174 in a disappointing end to the home stand. Terrace City is back on track at 22-15, snapping their six-game losing streak on the road, while Viewpoint Sound slips to 13-16.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs look to extend a home winning streak, while the Monarchs begin a two-game tour of the Southwest. Panda nearly pulled off a quick backhand-to-forehand move, but he hesitated too long and ended with 439 for Southern in a good effort. Spice found her swing on the wrong side of the ball at one point, and ended with 263 for Victoria as it slid down her bat and into the wicket. Hoppy tried to play at a high pace for the Monarchs, but ended quickly with just 177. Yekaterina lost control of her swing at the end, but she got the Spurs close with 338 to make for an interesting second half. Pounce further weakened the Southern lead with 176 after a bad deflection ended his turn rather abruptly. B. Chapman covered the deficit with 427 for Victoria, giving them the late lead with a player each to go. Shannon rallied with 537 for the Monarchs, forcing a response from the hosts as the visitors close at 1329. Wario pummeled 836 at the end for the Spurs, giving them the win with 1864, their fifth straight at home. Victoria improves to 16-18, while Southern slips to 9-20.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns try to get out of the basement when they host the struggling Torpedoes. Infinity got off to a good start with 656 from Smudge, as they try to shake their slumping nature of the last couple of weeks. Nightfur had a mess right at the start of her turn, contributing to a much slower start for Royal as she ended at 213. Solaris wasted his chance to really solidify the Torpedoes' offense, hitting am eager 36 in a poor turn. Jake made a dent in the deficit for the Crowns, but he fell at 377 after some awkward bounces destroyed his pace. Whiskers put Infinity right on track with 736, extending their lead quite a bit with the excellent performance. Kayla couldn't keep Royal in the fight with her 229, allowing them to slip far behind before the final players come to bat. Mr. Snowman tacked on 582 for the Torpedoes, bringing their lofty final to 2010. Hannah made it interesting at the end, charging from deep with a rally that ended at 1039, leaving the Crowns just short at 1858. Infinity survives the late scare for a boost to 23-15, while Royal slips to 10-24 despite the admirable attempt.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows hope their recent rise continues against a weaker foe in the Tradewinds, who play in the third of four straight on the road. Tigerette remains a formidable road force, slapping 487 to get Commerce started this time. Sally had an errant swing on her backhand as she tried to settle a ball, ending at just 82 for Archtown. Ice Cream couldn't get control in her game, muddling through until she sent a ball out at 271 for the Tradewinds, who don't yet feel safe. Sleepy B. did well in recovery for the Arrows, denting the deficit with her 520 to make it a close game at the halfway mark. Lionel didn't exactly bring much strength to the Commerce lead with his 304, potentially leaving them vulnerable. Ruby helped Archtown to cover the deficit with 684 on her turn, giving them the critical lead with a player each to go. Lorde couldn't even cover the deficit with 207 for the Tradewinds, as they collapsed to the loss with 1269. Dusky went with 467 to cap the Arrows win at 1753. Archtown is above .500 at 20-19, while Commerce dips to 12-20.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters have declined a bit recently, but the Tridents aren't that hot either in this important game. Precious wasted no time in establishing the Pronger offense, belting 951 to open the game in great form. Chris shot back with 682 for Capital City, trying to keep things close in the early going. Zach dropped the pace of the game dramatically with his 48 for the Tridents, hurting their output. Missy pounded a seemingly easy 743 for the Sharpshooters on her turn, giving them a noticeable lead at the midway mark. Spot couldn't cover the deficit with his 157 for Pronger, and they are finding themselves in trouble. Sprinkles wasted the chance to pull Capital City far ahead, instead hitting a paltry 32 as the hosts will now have to cling to their lead. Potter had only 39 for the Tridents, blowing their chance at a comeback as they lose with 1195. Nicole tapped another 376 for the Sharpshooters, giving them the win at a final score of 1833. Capital City is now at 21-16, while Pronger is 16-13 on the year.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills reach midseason with a game against the Flames, with the teams on different sides of the playoff hunt. Crystal had a bad swing early in the game for Queens, ending with only 78 on her turn. Easter tried to do too much too quickly for Todavía, ending up with 183 when she hit a ball out of bounds, giving them a narrow lead. Paige levied a much strong attack for the Flames, putting them ahead with her 599. Sierra lost a lot of ground and the lead for the Stills, fading early at 294 to put them behind at the halfway mark. Violetta raked in another 695 for Queens on her turn, padding their lead quite significantly. Sparkles kept Todavía in the game, slicing 776 to put them within striking distance as the final players come to bat. Max provided 441 for the Flames at the end of the game, setting their final score at a sturdy but not safe 1813. Bells came out of her turn enraged by a menacing offering, which caused her to fall short at 173 for the Stills. They took the loss with 1426, but argued their case anyway. Queens gets the win to go to 20-13, while Todavía drops to 17-18.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems try to snap an eight-game home losing streak, but the Swifts are trying to close out a perfect four-game road trip. Patches had an embarrassing 72 for Boston at the start of this game. Smokey jumped forward for Diamond, giving them a sizable lead at the start by smacking 616. Puff II tried to provide an obstacle for the hosts, ending with 431 for the Swifts, who will have a tough time making a comeback. Citrus broke her home slump for the Gems at a great time, churning out 704 to pad the lead efficiently. Gradley faltered with 216 for Boston on his turn, further reducing their hope to get the win. Pedey leaned back too far on a swing, producing only 276 for Diamond as he holds the lead steady late in the game. Sweetheart went crazy for the Swifts, belting 1594 to nearly match their hosts score all by herself, giving her team a final of 2313. Rosalina couldn't answer with 129 for the Gems, giving them a stunning loss with 1725. Boston survives the scary game to go to 18-12, while Diamond drops to 12-29 despite playing well.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs hit midseason on a home surge, while the Surfers try to keep a steady upward momentum in what should be a close game. Watermelon tried to pull off a backhand flick, but slammed a ball up out of play to end on 372 for Pearl. Spice shrugged off a few offerings successfully, hauling in 608 to give Victoria the initial lead. Neopolitan managed to cover the deficit with 306, but the Surfers look shaky and non-threatening so far. Yekaterina stepped up pretty well for the Spurs, padding the lead with another 592 at the halfway mark. Boots also covered the deficit with 576 for Pearl, but their ability to keep up is in question given the small clearance margin. B. Chapman weakened the Victoria lead with her 235, leaving them a bit vulnerable as the final players take their turns. Wings picked up 394 for the Surfers on his turn, setting their final score at 1648, forcing a response from the hosts. Wario tapped 269 for the Spurs on his turn, grabbing the win at 1704, a narrow margin. Victoria continues to rise on a six-game home winning streak, going to 17-18, while Pearl slips to 17-15.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The week ends with the Waves hoping to get back on track at home against a surging Spurs side in the road half of their doubleheader. Spice showed some of her infamous explosiveness by slugging 1032 for Victoria to lead off this game. Snuggle accidentally tipped a ball backward, accelerating his demise at 324 for Oceanside as the hosts will start from behind. Yekaterina bashed another 830 for the Spurs, keeping their offense hot as they boost the lead. Caitlin had a decent 341 for the Waves, but they need a lot more to overcome a steep deficit. B. Chapman countered with 384 for Victoria, keeping their lead steady in the later stages of the game. Celestia made a rally with 655 for Oceanside, trying to close down the deficit with the performance. Wario iced the Spurs offense with his 321, giving them 2567 overall, maintaining a significant lead. Dewey swatted 513 for the Waves, but they crashed out at 1833 in the loss. Victoria reaches an even 18-18 record, while Oceanside slips down again to 22-21 in a recent slump.

That's it for Week 17 of Cricket. Links for the segment, midseason reports, and the newest standings will be live in the next half hour.
