We're back for the middle portion of the week, beginning with...
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds face an inconsistent Defenders team playing their second in a doubleheader on the road. Bianca got things going pretty well with 543 for Southridge, giving them a stable start to the game. Princess let a slow roller get behind her bat, and this caused her to fall with just 69 for Tysini, putting them in a deep hole early on. Debby had a good game with 424 for the Defenders, but she has lacked a consistent offensive pattern recently. Leandra had a good pace going for the Hummingbirds until an unfortunate deflection ended her effort at 464, making a small amount of progress. Stephanie broke free with 640 for Southridge on her turning, padding their lead admirably. Charli nearly had a disaster early in her turn, but lasted to post 185 for the struggling Tysini team. Hughbert had a modest 327 for the Defenders, putting their final at 1934 in what should be a win. Brownie tried a rally with 671 for the Hummingbirds, but it was too late for them, and they lost with 1389. Southridge goes to 16-19, while Tysini is 8-17 on the year.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades begin a three-game home stand against the traveling Pirates. Delila put quite a bit of pressure on early, slapping a quick 567 for Atlantic to establish their lead. Snowball looked shaky in an abbreviated turn for Swordpoint, hitting only 144 this time. Isabella shot back with 287 for the Pirates, a sub-par effort that merely keeps the lead fairly steady. Dreamy couldn't keep in control on her turn, ending with just 176 as the Blades have fallen behind badly halfway through the game. Americus shot back in a very convincing fashion for Atlantic, pounding 609 to extend their lead significantly. Bandit tried to get Swordpoint back into the game with his 568, undoing a little bit of the damage against them. Klaus sprayed another 601 for the Pirates, giving them 2064 in a likely victory. Stealth didn't do well at all with 133 for the Blades, capping their disappointing loss with 1021. Atlantic gets the lifeline they needed, going to 19-12, while Swordpoint falls back into a tie for first with the Volcanoes at 22-9.
IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks play their last home game for awhile, allowing their stadium construction to finish, against the Pirates in the second half of their road doubleheader. Delila struggled with her pace in this game, taking a poor 219 for Atlantic as the road trip catches up to them. Peach had a weaker 119 for North Modernistic, getting the game off to a low-scoring start. Isabella had a more respectable effort with 376 for the Pirates, growing their lead slightly. Luigi cut into the deficit with his 438 for the Nighthawks, making it a close game at the halfway mark. Americus bashed 927 for Atlantic, carrying them into a massive lead out of nowhere. Cheddar got beat on a deflection, ending at 113 for North Modernistic, which will likely cause them to lose. Klaus piled on with 578 for the Pirates, bringing their total to an even 2100 in what should be a win. Bright barely even tried to counter with 184 for the Nighthawks, giving them a loss at 854. Atlantic surges up to 20-12, while North Modernistic is 20-17 on the year.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks try to break a home skid in the third of a four-game home stand, while the Torpedoes regroup to attack for the league lead again. Smudge set the tone for Infinity, lashing out with 703 as another road team bursts ahead. Fluffina got over half of that back for Maplewood, hitting 368 in a decent opening turn from the home captain. Solaris effectively covered that damage with 450 for the Torpedoes, adding lightly to the lead. Diddley answered with 560 for the Lumberjacks, denting the lead his former team holds at the halfway mark. Whiskers kept the Infinity offense strong with 544, undoing another wave of attack with a good game. Bryant couldn't keep up the escalating fight, ending at only 78 for the Lumberjacks. Mr. Snowman matched his captain with 703 for the Torpedoes, giving them 2400 even in what should be a win. Waluigi fell with a pathetic 75 for the Lumberjacks, ending their effort at 1081. Infinity is just a half-game off the lead at 21-9, while Maplewood drops to 12-17 despite the long rest.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs are back in action, while the Pirates play their third in the last four league games to end their three-game road trip. Delila slipped up with an awful 40 for Atlantic, the quick road trip clearly getting to her. A much fresher Spice crushed 1097 for Victoria, opening for them in fantastic form. Isabella fell quickly for the Pirates as well, with a pitiful 64 after a hesitant and unnecessary double-tap swing. Yekaterina wasn't great with 152, but the Spurs are still far ahead despite her lackluster performance. Americus kept the comically bad Atlantic offense low with her 69 points, another meager offering as the once-dominant team has fallen completely apart. B. Chapman misplayed a ball on the bounce, giving Victoria only 115, good enough to keep the lead stable. Klaus was downed by a deflection at 112 for the Pirates, the team's leading scorer in their 285-point total, a brutal loss. Wario added 443 for the Spurs at the end, bringing their final to 1807. Victoria's odd win gets them to 11-17, while Atlantic is now 20-13 in a disappointing end to their road trip.
Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills return home for a one-off against the Shores, who wrap up a three-game road trip. Bear showed confidence in opening the scoring with 510 for Whitewater, pacing them well in the early going. Easter clobbered 1105 for Todavía in response, giving them the initial lead by a wide margin. Twinkie III didn't quite cover the deficit for the Shores, ending at 495 in a good outing for the veteran. Sierra weakened the Stills lead on her turn, getting out of rhythm before falling at 256. Marsell capitalized on the opportunity for Whitewater, wildly swinging his way to 752 to pull the visitors into the lead for now. Sparkles collapsed with a measly 39, swinging a bit too high just as her turn crossed the threshold to become official for Todavía, putting them in a late-game hole. Shaggy did a good job to collect 368 for the Shores on her turn, placing their final score at 2125, a tough bar to meet for the hosts. Bells closed at 338 for the Stills, leaving them at 1738 total in the loss. Whitewater got a big character win to go to 11-11, passing the 16-17 Todavía side.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots play their second of a three-game home stand against Southeast Division rivals, the Crowns, who end a three-game road trip in this appearance. Nightfur had a fairly stable appearance for Royal, calmly hitting 384 on her turn to start the game. Valencia responded in a big way for Golden, smashing 833 to give them a nice lead initially. Jake didn't back down for the Crowns, slicing 757 to cover the deficit for now. Dusty countered with 640 for the Pilots, regaining a smaller lead for them as the game reaches half-completion. Kayla fell off the pace a bit, ending at 232 as Royal has fallen behind again. Strut took advantage for Golden, striking 570 to pull them farther ahead with a player each to go. A deflection downed Hannah at 160 for the Crowns, leaving them short at 1533 in the loss. A. Charlton capped the Pilots win with her 368, giving them a final of 2411 over their divisional opponents. Golden soars to 21-10, with a 6-3 division record, while Royal falls to 8-20, and 0-3 in the division.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes could enter a tie for first if they can stave off the Swifts, who play the second of a four-game road trip. Patches slipped from her recent pace on the road offense, posting 354 for Boston in a decent appearance. Smudge took an aggressive stance, and ended a bit earlier than she hoped with 192 for Infinity, putting them a bit behind at first. Puff II responded with a bit more power for the Swifts, churning out 852 to pad their lead nicely. Solaris couldn't keep his stance steady, ending at 472 for the Torpedoes as they fall farther behind. Gradley proved absolutely relentless for Boston, pummeling his way to 2180 as they've all but assured themselves of a win now. Whiskers had a strong pace for Infinity on her turn but couldn't come close to getting them back in the game when she fell at 451. Sweetheart tacked on 477 to bring the Swifts to 3863 in a massive win for the defending champions. Mr. Snowman fell at 184 for the Torpedoes, and they lost with 1299. Boston is 16-12 on the year, while Infinity will drop to 21-10, still one of the better teams out there.
FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks try to keep their home winning streak going in the finale of a three-game stand, while the Cascades play their fourth of seven straight against an Eastern Hills rival. Jasmine got right down to business with 762 for Freedom in the opening turn of the game. Chelsea fired back with 619 for Eastside, keeping the game close in the early stages. Stinky answered with 519 for the Cascades, slowly dropping the pace of the game but keeping his team in charge. Taylor was the one to crack completely, falling at 96 as the Sharks face a significant deficit at the midway mark. Roxy failed to capitalize for Freedom, getting her bat stuck in the pitch and ending on a pathetic 32. Niki filled the void for Eastside, hammering 624 to give her team a small lead with a player each to go. Nikolai hit a light 160 for the Cascades, ending with 1473 overall in a poor finish to the game. Paps had a nervy turn, but he did enough with 204 to give the Sharks the win on 1543. Eastside gets the critical division win to go to 14-18, as well as 4-3 in the division, while Freedom is 9-14, with a 1-2 division record.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores open a four-game home stand against the struggling Hummingbirds. Princess had a fairly modest start for Tysini, poking her way to 311 on the first turn. Bear showed much less mercy to the ball, drilling 705 for Whitewater to give them a strong lead early in the game. Leandra came close to covering the deficit for the Hummingbirds, adding 366 to their score, but they remain behind. Twinkie III lost a bit of the lead for the Shores, as her backhand swing shivered wide of the ball, ending her turn at 288 as it went out of bounds behind her. Charli replied with only 247 for Tysini, not enough to cover the deficit as they slipped a bit more. Marsell showed up with confidence for Whitewater, extending their lead significantly with 707 on his turn. Brownie had just 122 for the Hummingbirds, sticking them with a losing final score of 1046. Shaggy made it quick at the end with 51, giving the Shores 1751 in the win. Whitewater ascends to 12-11, while Tysini falls to 8-18.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes kick off a six-game home stand with their sights on solitude in 1st, facing Coastal Division rivals, the Surfers, who have yet to win a division game this year. Watermelon started with a firm 405 for Pearl, laying a good foundation. Starlight had pace to start her turn, but it dropped off and then she mishit a ball to end with 208 for Pacific. Neopolitan had a good game ready to unload, but an awkward bounce downed her at 392 when she hit a ball backwards, keeping the Surfers in good position. Ms. Kitty did her part with 688 for the Volcanoes, carrying them into the lead at the midway point. Boots couldn't sustain the Pearl offense, fading at 227 as they see a much weaker lead for themselves. Leonette lost control when she had to reach on a backhand, ending at 76 as Pacific falls just behind before the final players come to bat. Wings went with 306 for the Surfers, ending their offense at 1330, far from a safe mark for the visitors. Chicky Phil saved the day with 426 for the Volcanoes, giving them 1398 in the narrow win. Pacific's offense has slipped, but they own first place on a 23-9 record, while Pearl drops to 13-13 with another game next to end the segment.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers look to get back on track in the segment finale, beginning a three-game home stand against the Eagles, who are in the third of four straight on the road. Goldy had a solid 279 for Everton, playing better early on before fading. Watermelon let a ball slip behind her bat at the end, but she produced 472 to give Pearl the initial lead. Puff III countered with 496 for the Eagles, covering the deficit with a strong turn from the star. Neopolitan managed only 57 for the Surfers, putting them slightly behind at the halfway mark. Kirstin damaged the Everton lead, stumbling to 135 on her turn as they hold a tenuous grip on the advantage. Boots absolutely belted her way into the game for Pearl, scoring 1061 to easily cover the deficit and give her side a massive late lead. Blizzard had no response with 63 for the Eagles, giving them only 973 in another brutal loss for the rapidly falling team. Wings chipped 164 to give them Surfers 1754 in the win. Pearl is now at 14-13, while Everton drops to 18-13.
More cricket could be on the way tonight if all goes well.
