UPCL Cricket - Week 17 Part 2

We're back for the middle segment of the week, hopefully with a few less midseason reports involved. We begin with...

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes play their league-leading 41st game in this Oceanic Derby against the Pirates, who are opening a seven-game road trip. Delila pulled in 536 for Atlantic on the opening turn, setting the right tone for this minor rivalry. Starlight answered quite well for Pacific, giving them the lead as she sprayed 731 on her turn, a great appearance. Isabella didn't make as much progress as she wanted for the Pirates, tapping 304 to cover the deficit but not much else. Ms. Kitty showed no mercy for the Volcanoes, slashing 683 to nearly double their offensive output. Americus couldn't cover the deficit with 271 for Atlantic, leaving them in the hole late in the game. Leonette answered with a decent 480 for Pacific on her turn, padding their lead once again. Klaus tried and failed two backhands in a row, ending on 72 for the Pirates as they close their loss at 1183. Chicky Phil tried a spike play, but ended with 256 when it failed, giving the Volcanoes 2150 in a big win. Pacific is 28-13, while Atlantic drops to 22-14 for the year.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige try to get one back at their Southwest Division rivals, the Torpedoes, in this Cluster Derby match. Smudge proved quite solid for Infinity, going at a good pace to collect 454 in the opening turn of the game. Acorn didn't have much for pace on his turn, but he played smart and patiently for Lighton, putting them ahead with his 497. Solaris doubled the Torpedoes offense with 456 on his turn, covering the small deficit easily this time. Spirit took her time and then found a nice groove for the Prestige, smacking 576 to add a little more to the lead. Whiskers didn't stray from the Infinity offense all that much, scoring 445 to cover the deficit once again. Twinkie I pulled out of her recent slump a little bit, batting 345 to give Lighton a small lead with a player each to go. Mr. Snowman had 376 for the Torpedoes, falling off their pace a bit to give them a final of 1731. Salmo did enough with 360 for the Prestige, sealing their winning score at 1778. Lighton splits the season series to go to 15-16, while Infinity is 22-13 as the second tier drifts farther from the first.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs have been heating up at home lately, while the Lumberjacks hope some time on the road will clear their heads of their recent struggles in a rematch from earlier this week. Fluffina had a pretty lively turn for Maplewood until she couldn't settle a slow rolling ball, ending on 532. Spice showed weakness for Victoria, taking just 213 in a poor outing from the host captain. Diddley answered with a crisp 500 for the Lumberjacks, giving their lead a sizable boost. Yekaterina made minor progress with 557 for the Spurs on her turn, keeping the deficit steady. Bryant paddled a solid 402 for Maplewood, keeping their lead fairly strong deep into the game. B. Chapman didn't quite cover the deficit for Victoria, but she made a large dent with 616 to bring the hosts much closer late in the game. Waluigi left the Lumberjacks vulnerable with 138, putting their final score at 1572. Wario did enough with 289 for the Spurs, carrying his team over his brother's at a final of 1675. Victoria gets another home win to improve to 15-18, while Maplewood drops to 12-24 with the loss.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents are back in action at home, facing the Union in their third of six straight on the road. Ms. Puppy got beat by a sinking offering, ending with a meager 40 for Modernistic in a terrible start for the visitors. Precious wanted more than she got for Pronger, ending at 375 to give them a noticeable lead early on. Daisy tried to play a high-pace game to start the comeback, but she ended abruptly at 144, hurting the Union instead of helping. Zach didn't help the Tridents either, ending early at 128 as their lead is denied the chance to grow at the halfway mark. Puff I played hero for Modernistic, covering the deficit and building quite the lead with her 966-point effort, a great turn from the veteran. Spot barely did anything for Pronger, failing to cover the deficit as he hit only 190 on a poor outing. Strawberry drilled 602 for the Union against her former team, producing a total of 1752. The decline of the Tridents offense caught them here, as 411 from Potter left them short with 1104 total. Modernistic took a big win to go to 13-18, while Pronger slides to 16-12 in the disappointing loss.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades host the second of a three-game home stand against the Blades, who come in leading the league as they set out on a three-game road trip. Snowball had a very pacey effort for Swordpoint, smashing 772 to set the tone early on against the obstinate hosts. Jasmine accidentally double-hit her last ball, ending at 355 when it went too high as Freedom starts from behind. Dreamy swatted 635 more for the Blades, but only after a couple of false starts as she found her swing. Stinky tripped up with 179 for the Cascades, hurting their comeback chances at the midway mark. Bandit hit a decent 321 for Swordpoint in this game, doing enough to maintain the lead. Roxy lost a little more ground with 289 for Freedom as their offense has been stymied so far. Stealth tacked on a good 382 for the Blades, putting their final at 2110 in a presumptive win. Nikolai couldn't get comfortable at any point, ending on 147 to give the Cascades 970 overall in the loss. Swordpoint moves to 26-10 after the win, while Freedom dips to 10-18.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The bottom two teams meet here, with one guaranteed to get a boost in the standings with a win. Smokey made his late-game backhand look fairly effortless, helping him to score 487 for Diamond in a strong start from the captain. Nightfur couldn't make her good pace last long enough to matter, posting a modest 240 for Royal at the start. Citrus laced another 659 for the Gems on her turn, padding their lead with the significant output in a secondary attack. Jake has been known as a game-changed at times, but he had a mild 130 for the Crowns this time, allowing the deficit to grow. Pedey carved out a reliable 425 for Diamond on his turn, extending their lead again as the visitors seem to be in full control in this game. Kayla made a deep cut into the deficit for Royal, blasting 940 out of nowhere to set up a closer finish. Rosalina had 280 for the Gems, which gave them a total of 1851 for the game, certainly not a safe mark. Hannah wasted the effort from Kayla, taking a measly 54 as the Crowns lost with 1364. Diamond rises to 12-27, passing the now 10-23 Royal side they just defeated.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors started this four-game home stand with a win over the Blades, and they hope the second game against the Warriors yields a similar result. Twilight has had impeccable form on the road for Central recently, and she sliced another 722 this time. Mams showed a bit of strength herself for Viewpoint Sound, pounding 650 to keep things close early on. Dustin scattered 395 for the Warriors on his turn, doing well to give them a bit of breathing room. Hoot covered the deficit for the Meteors, flipping 505 to give them a narrow lead at the halfway mark. Mario couldn't break his recent slump for Central, scoring 223 as they have a very vulnerable score. Nibbles wasted the chance for Viewpoint Sound, taking a measly 61 as they've fallen behind again with a player each to go. Gizmo rallied with 407 for the Warriors, setting them at 1747 overall and hoping that will be enough. Dominic came in on fire for the Meteors, blazing 556 to give them the win with 1772. Viewpoint Sound is becoming a giant kill, going to 12-15, while Central is stunned to drop to 19-10.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders go Greek in the Metropolis Derby, trying to end a home skid, while the Union come to town for the fourth of a six-game road trip. Ms. Puppy made sure to bounce back well from a recent mishap, lining 576 for Modernistic to start this game. Bianca couldn't shake her recent slump, with only 207 to start the offense for Southridge. Daisy slapped a quick 391 to pad the Union lead with a decent performance for a rookie. Debby suffered a bad deflection and ended with a paltry 80 for the Defenders, allowing the deficit to grow at the midway point. Puff I kept Modernistic going in the right direction, distributing 624 to extend the lead again with a great appearance. Stephanie also fell with 80 for Southridge, furthering their home problems as a sixth straight loss at home appears inevitable. Strawberry hammered a big 844 at the end for the Union, bringing their likely winning total to 2435. Hughbert got caught on a deflection, and his backhand was too high, ending his turn at 227. The Defenders lost with 594. Modernistic soars to 14-18, while Southridge collapses to 16-22.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators have a chance to sweep another middle-tier team, the Waves, in this rematch from a recent game. Snuggle simply mishit a ball early in his turn for Oceanside, giving them 274 to build upon, a less-than-ideal effort from the captain. Shawn slugged 1164 for Midland in response, making the chance of a sweep improve significantly with the impressive turn. The Waves' Caitlin got a bit too much under one swing, ending at 144 in a poor second attack. Rainmane brought a surge of support with 834 for the Predators, further securing the game with good offense. Celestia had something going for Oceanside, but she was cut down at 320 by a cruel deflection. Leonardo put Midland on cruise control with his 311, keeping their lead steady late in the game, without need to extend it much more. Dewey picked up 215 for the Waves, leaving their final at 953 in a brutal loss to a team that has them figured out. Fuchsia iced the Predators win with 434 more, bringing the total to 2743. Midland is back to even at 18-18, while a fatigued Oceanside is 22-19 on the year.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems hope to cool the Arrows and simultaneously snap a seven-game home losing streak. Sally turned to her backhand a couple of times to save her turn, but she never recovered her pace and ended at 213 for Archtown. Smokey didn't put the game out of reach by any means, but he gave Diamond a lead with 411. Sleepy B. easily covered the deficit for the Arrows, batting 480 in a strong turn to keep the game interesting. Citrus couldn't quite reclaim the lead for the Gems, falling at 264 and keeping things very close at the halfway point of the game. Ruby went off completely for Archtown, rallying to 917 to give the visitors a massive lead at a critical point in the game. Pedey made an admirable effort to match Ruby in pace, but he couldn't last as long, ending with 357 for the now far-back Diamond. Dusky broke through for the Arrows as well, churning out 813 to bring their final score to 2423 in what should be a win. Rosalina couldn't get a ball off her bat in time for the next swing, ending at 289 for the Gems, and they lost with 1321. Archtown continues to rise to 19-19, while Diamond falls back to 12-28 on the year.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors host another high-ranked team in the third of a four-game home stand, while the Torpedoes wrap up a three-game road trip here. Smudge hoped to levy some intimidation against the hosts, crashing her way to 788 for Infinity at the start of the game. Mams couldn't quite catch her, but she showed no fear in scoring 656 for Viewpoint Sound in response. The Torpedoes' Solaris got a bit sloppy on his turn, ending early with 215 on a missed contact play. Hoot covered the deficit pretty easily with 401 for the Meteors, but it's close at the midway mark. Whiskers fired back with 564 for Infinity on her turn, restoring them to a noticeable lead. Nibbles couldn't match it with 162 for Viewpoint Sound, putting them into quite a bit of late trouble. Mr. Snowman never got his appearance on track, ending at 147 to give the Torpedoes a final of 1714. Dominic did it again, completing the comeback with 535 to give the Meteors 1754 in another impressive win. Viewpoint Sound is up to 13-15, while Infinity falls to 22-14 in a tough loss.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves break out Spotted Wolf jerseys to host the Nighthawks in their second of a ten-game road trip to end this segment, with the visitors seeking the sweep. Peach had only 94 for North Modernistic, ending on a slow backhand with some signs of fatigue. Juno answered with 288, getting stalled by a double-hit that went a bit too high for her liking. Luigi pulled back with 513 for the Nighthawks, covering his captain well and also covering the deficit with the effort. Frosty likely put the game away for the Wolves, unleashing an epic 2020 with remarkable pace and skill to boost the lead immensely. Cheddar couldn't break her slump on a cluttered pitch, ending with just 256 for North Modernistic. Cobalt bailed from a great turn at 585, satisfied with the effort once the pitch became cluttered again, with Stonebridge maintaining a massive lead. Bright went big with 600 for the Nighthawks, but they took the loss on 1463, a second straight loss on the road trip. Prism iced the Wolves win with only 135, giving them 3028 in a big win. Stonebridge enjoyed two weeks off, but are glad to return at 14-20, while North Modernistic is 20-19 and slipping.

That's it for this segment of cricket. The remainder of this week should be up around Monday or Tuesday at the latest.
