UPCL Cricket - Week 20 Part 1

We're here in week 20 of the cricket season. It's been a struggle to get this far, but after this, there's only 15 league-weeks left. The first segment leads off with...

BMW RockDome, Westside: Two of the better teams in the league meet in the weekly debut, with the Swifts riding a road high as they come to visit the Rockers. Boston got off to a solid start with 475 from Patches on the opening turn of the game. Misty showed up well to counterattack with 591 for Westside, giving them the initial lead. Puff II played with confidence, but not for a long time, ending at an acceptable 328 for the Swifts, who have the deficit covered for now. Goatee successfully went to her backhand twice before a third ball got over her bat and stalled her at 379, which allowed the Rockers to regain the lead. Gradley got smothered early in his turn, keeping his pace low for Boston, and eventually he scored 213 in a poor turn. Midnight smacked 603 for Westside in response, extending their lead quite a bit near the end of the game. Sweetheart forced a response from the hosts again with her 790 for the Swifts, putting them at 1806 for their final score. Slinks did enough with 360 to give the Rockers a win at 1933. Westside gets the critical win to move into fourth place at 25-13, while Boston is a half-game back at 25-14 in a tie for sixth.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes try to shake their home troubles with this three-game stand, hosting the Union in the first of those games. Ms. Puppy doesn't want to make it easy on her hosts, corralling 566 for Modernistic on the first turn. Smudge can't seem to shake this home slump, falling at 220 for Infinity this time as they start from behind again. Daisy padded the lead for the Union with 521, a good performance to keep them in control of the game. Solaris tried to soften the blow a bit for the Torpedoes, collecting 424 on a decent turn. Puff I accepted 445 for Modernistic after a technical error, although she left a lot of points on the table as it took awhile to end the turn without being forced into a replay. Whiskers still couldn't take advantage for Infinity, scoring 378 in a decent effort that still sees them slip farther behind. Strawberry stumbled at 269 for the Union, putting their final at 1801. Mr. Snowman couldn't pull back with 136 for the Torpedoes, and they lost with 1158, their sixth loss in a row at home. Modernistic rises to 17-20, while Infinity is down to 23-18 on their slow fall.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames host a Southeast Divisional against the Predators, as two in-form teams battle it out for a critical victory. Shawn had a couple of tough bounces hold his turn down, and he produced only 331 for Midland. Crystal got a bit bunched up on her turn as well, scoring a modest 231 as Queens is a bit behind at the start. Rainmane gave the Predators a more respectable output with her 544, padding the lead quite nicely. Paige couldn't get her swing on track for the Flames, with a poor 108 putting them in a deeper deficit at the midway mark. Leonardo crushed 1023 for Midland in a great turn, extending their lead significantly with the performance. Violetta shot back with 600 for Queens, but they are losing ground and have little time to recover. Fuchsia got knocked down at just 80 for the Predators, but they end at a total of 1978, which should be a win. Max finished with 416, not enough to save the Flames from taking a loss at 1355. Midland improves to 21-18, while Queens is down to 23-15 on the year.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The third jerseys are out for an Urban Divisional between two very strong teams, as the Rockers host the third of four straight at home against the Nighthawks in their eighth of ten straight on the road. Peach did alright in plucking 409 for North Modernistic to open the scoring. Misty didn't readjust after a backhand try, ending her turn as she failed to settle the next ball, which gave Westside 295 to start. Luigi continued his strong play of late with 538 for the Nighthawks, adding a good amount to their lead. A deflection was to blame for Goatee stalling out on 289 for the Rockers, losing a bit more ground. Cheddar slugged 1607 for North Modernistic this time, just about securing the game with the epic turn at bat. Midnight barely showed any fight in her game with a measly 48 for Westside. Bright hit 105 for the Nighthawks, closing their likely win at 2659. Slinks tapped 456 for the Rockers, but they took a brutal loss at 1088. North Modernistic rises again to 23-22, while Westside sinks to 25-14.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters are the lucky team to welcome the Shores back to action after two straight bye weeks. Bear did not appear to be rusty at all, slicing 543 to give Whitewater a good start to the scoring. Sydney unleashed a fierce counterattack for Harrison, using a compact swing and a nice hitting groove to put up 1008 for the hosts to take the initial lead. Twinkie III attacked back with 964 for the Shores, restoring a noticeable lead with the effort. Twinkie II fell just short of covering the deficit with 451 for the Specters in a good appearance. Marsell left Whitewater a bit vulnerable after scoring 352 on his turn. Lexi stepped up to cover the deficit for Harrison, swatting 450 on a good turn to do so as the hosts lead with a player each to go. Shaggy put the Shores in a good position with 772 individually, setting their final at 2631. Sugar put all her effort in getting close, only to fade too far and end with 688, giving the Specters a loss with 2597. Whitewater moves up to 14-13, while Harrison sinks to 16-26.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators are going for the season sweep against the Knights, who play in their third of four straight on the road. Kiwi is really feeling like herself late, bashing 921 for Terrace City in a great start for the visitors this time. Shawn couldn't get control of his appearance for Midland, hitting a meager 114 in the effort. Jennifer rattled off another 777 for the Knights, extending their lead by a wide margin with a good game from the second hitter. Rainmane accepted 458 for the Predators, forgoing an optional replay to make a minor impact on the deficit. Oreo weakened the Terrace City lead a bit with only 200 on her turn, a poor outing from the usually punishing veteran. Leonardo made a little bit of progress for Midland with 378, but they are running out of time to make a late push. Stripes had only 129 for the Knights at the end, producing their final score of 2027. Fuchsia wasn't any better with 128 for the Predators, icing their loss at 1078. Terrace City earns the season split to go to 23-18, while Midland is 21-19 after the loss.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs return home for a game, while the Defenders are just setting out on a four-game road trip in this S-Line Derby. Bianca earned a false start replay, but didn't get much on her turn with 238 for Southridge. Panda produced a much more significant attack for Southern, setting them in the lead with his big 798. Debby pulled up when a technical error occurred, scoring 656 for the Defenders to at least temporarily cover the deficit. Hoppy did well with 543 to maintain the Monarchs' lead at the halfway point of the game. Stephanie got Southridge going in the right direction, blasting 1082 to easily cover the deficit and make things interesting. Pounce covered the deficit with 656 for Southern, leaving the teams very close as the final players come to bat. Hughbert gave the Defenders little reason to hold hope, hitting 63 to end their game at 2039. Shannon collected a small 219, but enough to give the Monarchs the win at 2216. Southern pulls off a gritty win to move to 13-21, while Southridge is 17-25 after the defeat.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems get their 52nd game of the year against Eastern Hills Division rivals, the Stonebridge Wolves. Juno ended on 509 for Stonebridge, hitting well until a high bounce caused her to split her swing and take out her own wicket. Smokey wasn't fast enough to get into position, hitting a ball violently backward to end his turn at only 181 for Diamond. Frosty pounded another 626 for the Wolves, padding their lead efficiently with a great performance. Citrus tried to keep the Gems in range, posting 535 in a good game at the midway mark. Cobalt answered with 239 for Stonebridge in a poor turn, opening them up to be countered against. Pedey didn't do that much, but he made a little progress with 335 for Diamond, denting the deficit slightly. Prism made things worse with only 72 for the Wolves, leaving them vulnerable at 1446. Rosalina completed the comeback with 440 for the Gems, icing their win at 1491. Diamond is up to 16-36, while Stonebridge falls at 16-22.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors inch closer to midseason, while the Pirates play their fifth of a seven-game road trip. Delila lined a firm 816 for Atlantic at the start of the game, establishing their lead quite well. Mams kept a strong pace throughout her turn, but a late deflection brought her down at 510 for Viewpoint Sound, well short of matching the first attack. Isabella tried to go to her backhand, but hit the ball high and out to end at 274 for the Pirates. Hoot wasted the chance to make progress, merely matching results with 289 for the Meteors. Americus gave Atlantic a good boost with 528 on her turn, padding the lead noticeably with the effort. Nibbles tried to keep up with 480 for Viewpoint Sound, allowing them to fall a little farther behind in the tough game. Klaus had some issues with his pace for the Pirates, ending on 279 to give them 1897 total for the game. Dominic made an attempt at a rally with 439, but the Meteors lost with 1718. Atlantic continues to rise to 26-14, while Viewpoint Sound is down to 14-18.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes need a quick end to their home slump, but the Pirates, in their sixth of seven straight on a successful road trip, don't seem likely to oblige. Delila couldn't seem to get a handle on her swing for Atlantic, ending with a poor 185. Smudge had one of her best recent efforts, quickly swatting 728 for Infinity to start this game. Isabella is not holding up as well as her team on the road trip, falling at just 110 this time for the Pirates. Solaris chipped 767 for the Torpedoes on an excellent turn, essentially doubling their lead at the halfway mark. Americus made things worse with a measly 48 for Atlantic, almost assuredly ending their hopes of a comeback. Whiskers stumbled a bit with a sloppy swing at 141 for Infinity, but they are in no danger of losing the game. Klaus produced an okay 272 for the Pirates, but they lost badly with 615 overall. Mr. Snowman clobbered another 737 for the Torpedoes, icing their big win at 2373. Infinity got their win to go to 24-18, knocking Atlantic back to 26-15 in the process.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige look to snap a home losing streak, but the visiting Blades are a tough team to do that against. Snowball did well in her return to road play, smacking a solid 506 to get Swordpoint off to a strong start. Acorn fired back with an even better 591 for Lighton, giving the hosts a narrow initial lead. Dreamy stumbled badly for the Blades, picking up a weak 138 as they barely cover the deficit this time. Spirit wasn't much better for the Prestige, scraping them ahead with her 115 as the game takes a low-scoring turn at the halfway mark. Bandit parried a solid 510 for Swordpoint on his turn, giving them another chance to lead the game. Twinkie I fell just short of covering the deficit for Lighton, poking 423 as they trail slightly late in the game. Stealth stayed patient on his turn, allowing the play to develop before he acted, and it worked with him scoring 562 to put the Blades at 1716 total. Salmo hit 279 for the Prestige, not enough for the win, as they lost with 1408. Swordpoint extends their league lead again to 30-12, while Lighton is 17-23 after the loss.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores are at home for this game, hosting the Flames as they embark on a five-game road trip. Crystal found herself very frustrated with her lack of pace, taking only 250 for Queens in a mediocre performance. Bear churned out a big performance for Whitewater with 975 to give the hosts the early lead. Paige also got taken out early, producing 274 as the Flames lose ground in a tough battle. Twinkie III didn't blow anyone away with 346 on her turn, but she did well to maintain the Shores lead at the midway point. Violetta tried to make a dent in the deficit with 428 for Queens, but she only erased about half of it. Marsell got a little bit of it back with his 271 for Whitewater, doing enough to maintain their advantage late in the game. Max stepped up with a big rally, knocking 828 to give the Flames a final score of 1780 while forcing the hosts to respond. Shaggy batted 368 to secure the Shores win at 1960 in a hard-fought battle. Whitewater rises again to 15-13, while Queens takes a hit back to 23-16.
