We're back for the Week 16 finale, beginning with...
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Knights come to their midseason point against the Spurs, who are home for an odd game. Kiwi melted a bit earlier than expected with 281 for Terrace City, a poor start from the more high-paced captain. Spice earned an optional replay after a technical error for Victoria, and used it to bring in 490 for the hosts, giving them an early lead. Jennifer got too much under her swing and ended with a measly 78 for the Knights, damaging their comeback attempt. Yekaterina cranked out another 597 for the Spurs on her turn, padding their lead nicely at the midway mark. Oreo seemed to have a groove for Terrace City, but a deflection cut her off at 146, and they appear set for the loss. B. Chapman tacked on another 450 for Victoria, reinforcing their lead well with the performance. Stripes went on a rally for the Knights, but her 723 left them short at 1228 in the loss. Wario added 345 for the Spurs in the end, giving them a final of 1882 in the win. Victoria's upset win takes them to 13-18, while Terrace City drops down to 21-14 on the year.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders are in the second of a three-game home stand, while the Specters approach midseason with their first game back after a week off. Sydney provided another steady burst of offense with 560 for Harrison in the opening turn. Bianca was on track to get Southridge back in the game, but a deflection downed her at 336. Twinkie II weakened the Specters lead on her turn, taking only 128 as she mishit a ball. Debby picked the right time to break out of her slump for the Defenders, unleashing 735 to give the hosts a lead at the halfway mark. Lexi covered the deficit well with 632 for Harrison, giving them a chance to battle in this game. Stephanie had a bad swing for Southridge, ending with a meager 103 as they've fallen behind late. Sugar had only 192 for the Specters, hurting their offense by ending at 1512, leaving the hosts within striking distance. Hughbert never got his pace established, ending with 208 as the Defenders take the loss with 1382. Harrison sneaks away with the win to go to 13-21, while Southridge slides to 16-21 in a recent home slump.
Nissan Hall, Infinity: The Torpedoes are looking to get back on track at home, but the Surfers are a formidable foe to do that against. Watermelon had a bit of a sloppy ending swing for Pearl, poking her way to 311 in an acceptable start. Smudge's focus on cricket since her elimination from pool had gone poorly, with the Infinity captain posting a weak 223 this time. Neopolitan flicked 270 for the Surfers, adding a little to their lead in the low-scoring battle. Solaris failed to really address the scoring issues, producing 304 for the Torpedoes to cut slightly into the deficit. Boots faltered with a measly 108 for Pearl on her turn, jeopardizing their lead. Whiskers had a subtle backhand flick to keep her turn going for Infinity, hauling in 363 to give them the lead late in the game. Wings pulled off a stunning blast of 680 for the Surfers, nearly doubling their offense to 1369. Mr. Snowman tried to play hero, but his 391 left the Torpedoes short at 1281 in the loss. Pearl snagged a tough win to move up to 17-13, while Infinity falls to 21-12 for the season, dropping them from the top tier.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades are finally back at home, just in time to face one of the hottest road teams in the league in the Swifts' third of four straight on the road. Patches didn't seem to have much for Boston, but she just kept going, blasting 1142 when it was all said and done. Jasmine couldn't keep up at all for Freedom, posting one of her worst with just 33 points. Puff II didn't do a lot, adding 320 for the Swifts to keep the lead healthy. Stinky at least made an impact for the Cascades, hitting a solid 410 to make them more respectable in what looks like a lost game. Gradley slapped another 561 for Boston on his turn, checking in with the reliable production he's known for. Roxy replied with 481 for Freedom, but they appear to just be chasing an impossible target now. Sweetheart capped the offense with 227 individually for 2250 overall, a good mark for the Swifts as they seek the win. Nikolai broke out on a rally with 611 for the Cascades, but they still lost with 1535 overall. Boston improves to 17-12, while Freedom is 10-17 on the year.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes return home to kick off a four-game home stand against the lowly Gems. Smokey sprayed 826 for Diamond on his opening turn, shocking even himself with the big appearance. Starlight tried the quick response for Pacific, but couldn't pull it off, falling with 216 as the hosts are in immediate trouble. Citrus had only 207 for the Gems, keeping their lead fairly steady against a dangerous opponent. Ms. Kitty made a dent in the deficit for the Volcanoes with 539, but she would have preferred to get a bit closer to help her teammates. Pedey undid all that progress with 607 for Diamond, restoring their lead to its previous strength. Leonette got taken out when she couldn't settle a shot on her backhand, ending at just 157 for Pacific, who appear to have fallen into the trap game situation. Rosalina supplied the Gems with 291, bringing their final score to 1931 in a stunning team performance. Chicky Phil dug in with 442 for the Volcanoes, but they fell far short at 1354 in the loss. Diamond is now 11-25 on the year, while Pacific slips out of second with a 26-13 record.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Hummingbirds look for a sweep in their second game against the Sharpshooters this week. Princess had a pretty good start with 487 for Tysini, and she could have had more if a ball hadn't deflected back over her and taken her wicket. Chris didn't blink as he pummeled 1190 for Capital City, staking out a significant lead for the hosts. Leandra barely put in an effort for the Hummingbirds, posting a weak 115 in a poor counterattack. Missy backed off her recent pace for the Sharpshooters, but a respectable 375 keeps their lead strong. Charli launched forward with 584 for Tysini, still failing to cover just Chris' output. An unconcerned Sprinkles tapped 80 for Capital City, weakening their lead slightly but not to cause alarm with just one player left on each team to bat. Brownie had only 75 for the Hummingbirds, leaving them short at 1261 in the loss to their division rivals. Nicole grabbed 336 for the Sharpshooters, leaving their final at 1981 in a good game. Capital City earned the series split, going to 20-12, while Tysini is down to 10-19.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors kick off a four-game home stand against the first place Blades. Snowball had a rough opening turn for Swordpoint, collecting only 162 as the visitors will have a low first attack. Mams answered with a much stronger 456 for Viewpoint Sound, putting them ahead initially. Dreamy made a big motion for the Blades, carving out 723 to cover the deficit and create a nice lead for the team. Hoot easily matched that damage with 745 for the Meteors, keeping their lead fairly steady halfway through the game. Bandit faded with only 192 for Swordpoint on his turn, damaging their chances at a comeback. Nibbles faltered with 122 for Viewpoint Sound, failing to secure the lead and setting up an interesting finish that awaits the final players. Stealth had 336 for the Blades, a decent effort, but they close with 1413, probably in line for a loss. Dominic tacked on 515, bringing the Meteors to their winning final score of 1838. Viewpoint Sound pulled off a massive upset to go to 11-15, while Swordpoint drops down to 24-10 on the year, still comfortably in first place.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union play their first of the week against a hungry Sharpshooters team. Chris struggled at the start of this game with only 192 for Capital, feeling fatigue from a busy week. Ms. Puppy shot back with 447 for Modernistic on her turn, the appearance lifting the hosts to an early lead against a dangerous team. Missy was done in by a brutal deflection early in her turn, ending on a paltry 64 for the Sharpshooters. Daisy showed no mercy for the Union, lining 792 on her turn to pad the lead at the midway point of the game. Sprinkles was unable to make much of a counterattack against the deficit, posting 233 as Capital City continues to underwhelm. Puff I chipped in with another 520 for Modernistic, furthering their lead late in the game with a good performance. Nicole tried a backhand to keep her turn going, but it came up just short, and she ended with 380, setting the Sharpshooters at 869 in the loss. Strawberry came up weak at 64 for the Union, but they won with 1823. Modernistic is 11-17, while Capital City slides to 20-13 on the year.
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters just reach halfway when hosting the Knights, who are onto the second half of their season beginning now. Kiwi got Terrace City off to a decent start with her 519, staking out a decent lead. Harrison charged right back, as Sydney pounded 982 on the opening turn, giving the hosts the initial lead this time. Jennifer didn't manage to cover the deficit on her turn, taking 368 for the Knights, whose road woes are popping up again. Twinkie II actually weakened the Specters lead a little bit with 304, not her best performance by any standard. Oreo racked up 717 for Terrace City on her turn, covering the deficit and making a bit of a lead for the visitors. Lexi brought the teams essentially level with 326 for Harrison, setting up a close finish for the final players to decide. Stripes squandered all of Oreo's hard work, taking only 58 for the Knights to put their final at 1672, likely for a loss. Sugar wasn't great either, but her 81 secured the Specters win at 1693. Harrison surges to 14-21 at midseason, while Terrace City's six-game road losing streak drops them to 21-15.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige kick off a three-game home stand, while the Union make their first of six stops on a road trip that will bring them to midseason. Ms. Puppy continued her growth in power with 932 for Modernistic this time, setting a harsh tone immediately. Acorn didn't let up at all for Lighton, covering the deficit with 976 to give the hosts a narrow lead. Daisy budged a bit for the Union, ending on 392 as they hold a weaker second lead. Spirit brought a plethora of support for the Prestige, rallying for 812 to pad the lead at the halfway mark. Puff I managed only 133 for Modernistic, further hurting their chances of getting back into a tough game. Twinkie I continues to slump for Lighton, taking only 144, enough to keep the lead steady as the final players come to bat. Strawberry knocked 556 for the Union, forcing a response from the hosts as her side closes at 2013 overall. Salmo wiped out that damage with 560 for the Prestige, setting their final at 2492. Lighton's big win takes them to 13-16, while Modernistic slips down to 11-18.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders try to shake a tough home stretch against their Northeast Division rivals, the Arrows, who are at midseason at the conclusion of this three-game road trip. Sally did alright with 369 for Archtown at the start, but her pace indicated she had more in the tank. Shadow just about doubled that effort, setting Web City fairly far ahead with his 720 in a strong outing by the captain. His cousin, the Arrows' Sleepy B., covered the deficit with ease, striking 544 on her turn to keep the visitors engaged. Ted tapped 317 for the Spiders, shrinking the lead a bit at the midway point. Ruby cut deeper for Archtown with 496 on her turn, pulling them into the lead for now with the effort. Shiny couldn't quite cover the deficit with 351 for Web City, but it's either team's game in the late stages. Dusky didn't inspire much confidence for the Arrows, taking 337 to set their final score at 1746. Dani had just 99 for the Spiders, and they take the loss with 1487 total. Archtown sneaks away with another win against a rival, going to 17-18, while Web City drops to 11-19 after returning from a double bye week.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige close up the week by hosting the Nighthawks in the first game of their second ten-game road trip of the year. Peach did not look good for North Modernistic, falling quickly at 157, a poor appearance from the captain. Acorn went deep again for Lighton, belting 986 on this turn to give his team a massive lead. Luigi poked 202 for the Nighthawks on his turn, hardly affecting the deficit at all. Spirit stumbled with 12 for the Prestige, an uncharacteristic mishap weakening their lead at the halfway point. Cheddar has recently struggled with form, no more so than just now with her 112 for North Modernistic wasting a chance to get back into the game. Twinkie I wasted her chance to extend the lead much as well, taking a paltry 120 for Lighton as the scoring has dropped off completely. Bright doubled his team's offense with 472 on his turn, but they took the loss with 943 overall in a terrible performance. Salmo chipped 145 for the Prestige, icing their unconventional win at 1263. Lighton is now 14-16, while North Modernistic is 20-18 on the year.
That's it for this week of games. We'll be back tomorrow to start week 17.
