We're back to wrap up the week, hopefully by Wednesday. We begin this last segment with...
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Waves reach the halfway point of their season in the first game of a doubleheader, against the recently strong Pirates. Snuggle got off to a strong start for Oceanside, striking his way to 495 to establish the offense. Delila didn't display the best pace for Atlantic, but she was steady in scoring 573 to put them narrowly ahead. Caitlin countered with 576 for the Waves, wiping out Delila's attack quite effectively. Isabella came up with a great appearance for the Pirates, knocking 760 to pad their lead a bit at the halfway mark. Celestia covered the deficit for Oceanside, slicing 577 to keep the game competitive. Americus went with 424 for Atlantic on her turn, keeping them in the lead with a player each to go. Dewey chipped 354 for the Waves, bringing their final to 2002, which will force a response from their hosts. Klaus shut the door with 656 for the Pirates, bringing them to 2413 in the win. Atlantic is back up to 21-13, while Oceanside slides to 19-16 at midseason.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The second half begins with a three-game home stand for the Waves, facing a Gems side that has lost five in a row. Smokey came up a bit weak with 167 for Diamond to begin the game. Snuggle made sure to punish Smokey's mistake, swatting 624 for Oceanside to take a large lead early on. Citrus fired back with 551 for the Gems on her turn, cutting into the deficit pretty well for the visitors. Caitlin squandered the Waves' lead, hitting a meager 64 in her worst home game of the year. Pedey countered with 496 for Diamond on his turn, extending their lead but not quite out of the range of their frustrated hosts. Celestia very narrowly covered the deficit with 530 for Oceanside, with the margin being four points as the final players come to bat. Rosalina came up a bit short with 248 for the Gems, forcing a response from the hosts as the visitors close on 1462. Dewey hit 312 for the Waves, knowing just what he needed to earn the win with 1530. Oceanside survives a scare or two to get to 20-16, while Diamond drops to 10-24 in a quickly lost season.
Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns return home for a game, facing the Knights in their third of a five-game road trip. Kiwi is getting dangerously close to a road slump, taking only 111 on this opening turn for Terrace City. Nightfur had an awkward turn, starting with pace and then watching her backswing end her turn at 66 when her wicket fell, putting Royal in a shallow hole. Jennifer is definitely in a slump as well, ending with 117 for the Knights in a sloppy game so far. Jake offered a bit of veteran poise for the Crowns, slashing 460 to give them a noticeable lead at the halfway point. Oreo made her presence known for Terrace City, replying with 484 to cover the deficit. Kayla restored a lead for Royal with her 336, but the low-scoring game is still to be determined by the final players. Stripes swung for 420 for the Knights, giving them 1132 in a poor outing for the team. Hannah fought off the trouble, scoring 306 to secure a massive upset win for the Crowns at 1168. Royal improves to 9-20, while Terrace City falls to 19-11, furthering the divide between top and second tier teams.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks end a four-game home stand against their Northeast Division and Forest Derby rivals, the Eagles, who close out a four-game road trip. Goldy carved out a good opening effort with 490 for Everton despite not having her best swing. Maplewood's Fluffina let a ball slip over her bat and then took out her own wicket at 126 on the next swing. Puff III never got comfortable for the Eagles, quickly bowing out with a measly 25. Diddley couldn't cover the deficit for the Lumberjacks, taking only 207 in a mediocre turn that keeps the game's scoring low. Kirstin showed a decent control with 384 for Everton, padding their lead at a critical juncture in the game. Bryant hit 359 for Maplewood on his turn, keeping them in range with a player each to go. Blizzard helped the Eagles to finish strong, batting 447 to put their final score at 1346 total. Waluigi had only 64 for the Lumberjacks, sealing their seventh straight home loss at 756 total. Maplewood drops to 12-18, while Everton rises to 19-13.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades look to retake a share of first place by hosting the struggling Knights in the fourth of their five-game road trip. Kiwi broke out with 1184 at the start for Terrace City, using a compact swing to blast her team into a massive lead. Snowball gave Swordpoint a chance with her 816, keeping them in range. Jennifer fired right back with 825 for the Knights, keeping the offense high as the visitors maintain a large lead. Dreamy looked like she could apply a lot of pressure, but an odd bounce stalled her at 672, hurting the Blades' comeback chances. Oreo tacked on 520 for Terrace City, allowing the lead to slip a bit but remain quite strong nonetheless. Bandit put a dent in the deficit with his 860 for Swordpoint, which could have been more had his early pace been sustained. Stripes stumbled with 176 for the Knights at the end, giving them a final of 2705, far from a safe mark. Stealth completed the comeback with 488 for the Blades, their lowest scorer but enough to earn the win at 2836. Swordpoint gains a share of first place at 23-9, while Terrace City drops again to 19-12.
Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs play in their fourth of a five-game home stand against the second-tier Sharpshooters, who are in the second of a three-game road trip. Chris accepted 703 for Capital City after a technical error brought his turn to an abrupt end. Panda had a three-hit combo for Southern, but missed his next swing and fell at 48 despite the savvy backhand flick play moments before. Missy added significant support with her 669 for the Sharpshooters, padding their lead nicely. Hoppy had a decent 340 for the Monarchs, but it was little help to the deficit they face. Sprinkles kept the Capital City offense hot with her 746, extending the lead once again for the visitors. Pounce had only 99 for Southern on his turn, showing how badly the hosts have been outclassed thus far. Nicole kept the balance strong with 623 for the Sharpshooters, likely defeating her former team as her current team ends with 2741. Shannon put up 672 to make a more respectable final for the Monarchs at 1159 in a still-brutal loss. Capital City soars to 18-11, while Southern slides to 9-18.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes play three of the last six games this week, all part of a six-game home stand. The lowly Union are the first in this stretch. Ms. Puppy dug in for 750 for Modernistic on the opening turn, a great mark from the captain. Starlight had a stronger pace but a little less time at bat, ending with 711 for Pacific to keep things close early on. Daisy proved the Union meant business in this game, belting 1034 on her turn to boost their lead. Ms. Kitty slipped up with 256 for the Volcanoes, a potentially costly mistake from the veteran at the halfway mark. Puff I was a little too quick for her own good, her strong pace ending with only 225 upon her early exit for Modernistic. Leonette tried to maintain her poise and play a patient game, but she had 472 when she sent a ball too high, and Pacific is still at a major deficit. Strawberry was content to let the Union coast, tapping 249 to bring them to 2258 overall. Chicky Phil got beat on a deflection at 287, sealing the Volcanoes loss at 1726. Modernistic's surprise win takes them to 10-17, while Pacific is 23-10, and will have to settle into second place for awhile.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers try to keep their home success going as the Cascades come to town for their fifth of a seven-game road trip. Jasmine couldn't sustain her stellar pace for Freedom, ending on only 317. Watermelon played a bit slower for Pearl, but she put the hosts narrowly in front with 366 on a decent turn. Stinky tried a fast pace as well for the Cascades, but quickly fell with a meager 112. Neopolitan easily covered this damage, lining 578 for the Surfers to produce a significant lead at the halfway point. Roxy managed to cover the deficit for Freedom, posting 538 to apply a little pressure to the hosts. Boots paddled another 727 for Pearl, giving their lead a bit more heft as the final players come to bat. Nikolai went with 401 for the Cascades, a good turn but not enough as they took the loss with 1369. Wings iced the Surfers win with 394 individually for a total of 2065. Pearl is now 15-13 after the strong performance, while Freedom slides once more to 9-15.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes look to rebound while they hold top-tier status, facing a much lesser Meteors team to do so against. Viewpoint Sound's Mams had a rough turn, taking only 206 to start the game for her team. Smudge slipped up at a disappointing 115 for Infinity, putting them behind in the early going. Hoot cobbled together 726 in a strong second attack for the Meteors, pacing their lead at a new height. Solaris got caught on a backhand for the Torpedoes, ending his turn with 202 as the hosts are in a deep deficit halfway through the game. Nibbles extended the Viewpoint Sound lead to an even larger margin with his 846, potentially setting his side up to pull off an upset. Whiskers had only 128, unable to overcome the pressure the visitors applied as Infinity is almost certain to lose now. Dominic helped the Meteors quite a bit with his 582, bringing them to a final score of 2360. Mr. Snowman put on a furious rally with 1272 for the Torpedoes, but they still lost to his former team with a final of 1717. Viewpoint Sound is 8-15, while Infinity is 21-11, potentially falling out of the top tier.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes need to bounce back after a disappointment, and the Archtown Arrows will look to compound their hosts' troubles. Archtown got off to a decent start with 479 from Sally, pacing their attack at an appropriate level. Starlight got beat by a ball on the pitch, ending her turn at 66 as she failed to adjust her swing, putting Pacific in an early hole. Sleepy B. racked up 530 for the Arrows on her turn, doing a great job to extend the lead. Ms. Kitty put the Volcanoes even farther off track, taking a measly 81 after a brutal deflection, which makes the hopes of a comeback bleak. Ruby flipped another 472 for Archtown on her turn, keeping their pace steady and strong as they hold a massive lead. Leonette did better than her teammates, but only with 313 for Pacific, further slipping behind late in the game. Dusky tapped 66 for the Arrows, setting their final at 1547. Chicky Phil did even worse with 57 for the Volcanoes, leaving them at a losing total of 517. Archtown is the second team to shock Pacific, with the visitors at 15-18 and the hosts at 23-11.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds need some help to ascend the standings, but the Warriors are unlikely to waste the fifth game of their six-game road trip on generosity. Twilight has been hot on the road lately, and she did it again, blasting 890 for Central. Tigerette put up a respectable counterattack with 536 for Commerce, keeping them withing striking distance early on. Dustin fired back with 569 for the Warriors, helping to keep their lead steady with a second attack. Ice Cream couldn't keep up for the Tradewinds, falling on 330 in her turn. Mario left the door open, as the Central rookie hit a meager 120 to destabilize his team's lead. Lionel made quite a dent in the deficit for Commerce, muscling up to score 530 and make it a closer game with a player each to go. Gizmo went big for the Warriors with 591, giving them a final score of 2170, which will be tough for the hosts to match. Lorde didn't even get close, as the enigmatic sophomore hit only 17 to bring the Tradewinds to 1413 in the loss. Central's big win takes them to 18-8, while Commerce slides to 10-18.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes host the Knights, with both teams trying to reverse recent skids at home and on the road respectively. Kiwi flicked a decent 408 for Terrace City to open the scoring in what should be a high-scoring battle. Pacific's Starlight kept a lively swing on her turn, tallying 484 to give the hosts a small lead initially. Jennifer faltered with 208 for the Knights, covering the deficit but only by a small margin. Ms. Kitty jumped at the chance to pad the lead for the Volcanoes, carving out 515 to give them a more substantial lead at the halfway mark. Oreo got a bit too aggressive with her swing, failing at 51 for Terrace City as they slip further behind. Leonette didn't show much mercy, batting 424 for Pacific to keep the lead strong as the final players come to bat. Stripes misplayed a ball off of a bounce, ending with 239 as the Knights fell with 906 in the loss. Chicky Phil tapped 217 to bring the Volcanoes to 1640 overall in the win. Pacific is back on track at 24-11, while Terrace City drops to 19-13.
That's all for this week, with more cricket to come likely on Monday.
