UPCL Cricket - Week 18 Part 2

The next segment of cricket action will take us past the league's midseason point. To get there, we begin with...

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers charge toward their midseason, but the Flames look to start their second half strong in this battle of above-average sides. Crystal drilled 945 right at the start for Queens, wasting no time in getting the visitors a sizable lead. Watermelon provided quite the firm response with 709 for Pearl, keeping them in the fight. Paige faltered with 396 for the Flames on her turn, giving the hosts a chance to even the game. Neopolitan failed to take advantage for the Surfers, ending on a weak 185 as the deficit grows at the halfway point. Violetta tapped another 376 for Queens on her turn, keeping their lead fairly steady. Boots made the deficit a bit smaller with her 417, pulling Pearl a step closer as the final players take their turns. Max had only 161 for the Flames on his turn, bringing their final to 1878, a somewhat vulnerable landing spot. Wings couldn't take advantage of it, ending on 197 for the Surfers in their loss with a final of 1508. Queens gets a critical win to go to 22-14, while Pearl is down to 17-16 on the year.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles have a four-game losing streak at home they'd like to snap, while the Pirates must balance their effort in the second of a seven-game road trip. Delila looked up, stunned, when she saw her turn over at 402 after a ball got over her bat, ending the Atlantic opener quickly. Goldy stayed composed amid a cluttered pitch for Everton, slicing her way to 523 to give the hosts a lead. Isabella put in a bold effort for the Pirates, churning out 640 in a great appearance. Puff III got a good portion of the attack back with her 600, keeping the Eagles narrowly in the lead. Americus replied with 355 for Atlantic, but a lack of pace kept the veteran down from her peak. Kirstin had a poor 160 for Everton, putting them behind late in the game with the dud performance. Klaus pulled away with 603 for the Pirates, setting them at an even 2000 overall and forcing the hosts into a big response if they want the win. Blizzard bested the opposition mark, but her 623 left the Eagles short at 1906 in a fifth straight home loss. Atlantic sneaks away with the win to go to 23-14, while Everton is reeling at 19-15 on the year.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems' busy week continues just after they ended a ten-game home losing streak; now, the Spiders are in town to create some ruckus. Shadow is beginning to see diminished returns on the road, producing 311 for Web City to start this game. Smokey has found a groove recently, churning his way to 607 for Diamond to take the early lead with. Ted made a major impact for the Spiders, blasting 1060 to cover the deficit by a wide margin. Citrus had a huge drop from her last game, ending on a paltry 51 for the Gems in this one as they've fallen behind again. Shiny had only 161 for Web City, failing to secure the game as much as she could have. Pedey didn't recover all that well for Diamond either, contribution 280 to their efforts as the deficit remains large with a player each to go. Dani had only 64 for the Spiders, ending their offense at a now-vulnerable 1596. Rosalina had one of her better efforts with 489, but the Gems came up just short at 1427 in a loss. Web City is now at 14-20, while Diamond slides to 14-31.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts get a home game to continue their recent rise, hosting the Union in the fifth of their six-game road trip. Ms. Puppy made a crisp turn for Modernistic, but ended earlier than she hoped with 345. Patches tried to keep a composed turn for Boston, but she let a ball get a bit too high and finish her effort at 360, giving the hosts a narrow lead. Daisy took a lot of big swings, but only managed to scatter 248 for the Union, covering the deficit lightly. Puff II did well to pull the Swifts farther ahead, swatting 520 to give them a nice lead at the halfway mark. Puff I matched her similarly-named descendant with 520 for Modernistic, keeping the game interesting as it gets later on. Gradley was livid with himself after a ball got over his bat and ended his turn at 90, putting Boston behind with just a player each to go. Strawberry tacked on 266 more for the Union, bringing their final score to 1379, which forces the hosts to make a response. Sweetheart got really close for the Swifts, hitting 392, but they fell short at 1362. Modernistic gets a surprise win to go to 15-18, while dumping Boston back down to 18-13.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige host the Eagles for the British Derby, with the Eagles holding the chance to sweep as they reach midseason. Goldy got ran over at the start for Everton, ending on 12 as she popped a ball out of bounds in desperation. Acorn didn't exactly pull away for Lighton, ending on a weak 180 as they take a minor lead. Puff III got the game on track for the Eagles, carving out 762 to give them a nice lead. Spirit couldn't do enough for the Prestige, ending at 147 as they now trail halfway through the game. Kirstin locked the game down for Everton, crushing 1048 in a spectacular attack to pin the hosts. Twinkie I looked to be on a rally for Lighton for awhile, but she couldn't sustain the performance, bailing at 392. Blizzard had a slow appearance, ending on 311 to bring the Eagles to 2133 overall. Salmo faded at 245 for the Prestige, giving them only 964 in the loss. Everton has finally righted the ship a bit, going to 20-15, while Lighton drops down to 16-18.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders are back at home to take on the Predators in their second of a three-game road trip in this Southeast Divisional. Shawn levied quite the tax on his opposing bowler, striking 568 to get Midland off to a wonderful start. Bianca shot back with a decent 472 for Southridge, keeping the hosts within range in the early going. Rainmane slipped up a bit, producing 312 for the Predators, a light mark that makes them a bit vulnerable. Debby swung hard for the Defenders, pounding 668 to give them a noticeable lead at the halfway mark. Leonardo replied with 481 for Midland, covering the deficit the other way in the close game. Stephanie chipped in with 311 for Southridge, enough to cover the deficit but not by much as the final players come to bat. Fuchsia put in an incredible attack for the Predators, lining 902 to give them 2263 as their final in a great finish. Hughbert had only 96 for the Defenders, leaving them at 1547 in the stunning loss. Midland is now 20-18 on the year, while Southridge falls to 16-24. With this, we have reached the middle of the season.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes lead off the second half of the league season by hosting Coastal Division rivals, the Meteors, in this game to finish their four-game home stand. Mams was doing alright until a bounced offering caught her out of position, setting her at 320 for Viewpoint Sound. Starlight slugged her way to 1039 for Pacific, watching her pace crater twice during the turn. Hoot hit only 271 for the Meteors, taking a conservative approach far too often in the turn. Ms. Kitty added a little bit more to the Volcanoes lead with her 449 in a strong appearance from the star. Nibbles had a meager 93 for Viewpoint Sound on his turn, unable to set the tone any better than that. Leonette swatted 996 for Pacific, going big to really secure the lead for the hosts late in the game. Dominic's 197 brought the Meteors to their poor final score of 881 in a brutal loss to their talented rivals. Chicky Phil popped 441 for the Volcanoes, icing their win at 2925 in a big performance. Pacific continues to cruise in second place at 29-13, while Viewpoint Sound's loss puts them at 13-17.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs, winners of six straight at home, host the Tridents to open a seven-game home stand as their ascent gets a scheduling boost. Precious didn't back down from the challenge from the hosts, scooping 512 for Pronger at the start of the game. Spice gave Victoria the initial lead on her turn, but with 597, the lead isn't by much of a margin yet. Zach is having trouble with clearing the pitch on his swings, and it got him in trouble again as he ended at 60 for the Tridents. Fellow sophomore Yekaterina had no such issue for the Spurs, but her risky swings cut her down at 286, mitigating her boost to their lead. Spot stepped forward with 448 for Pronger, covering the deficit to antagonize the hosts a bit. B. Chapman held off the trouble with 472 for Victoria, restoring their lead late in the game. Potter matched that with 472 for the Tridents, giving them 1492 total and forcing the hosts to respond. Wario gave the game away with only 42 for the Spurs, icing their loss at 1397. Pronger's stolen win gets them to 17-13, while Victoria slips to 18-19 at the end of the six-game winning streak at home.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems play their fourth of five straight at home, while the Sharks hit midseason on the unfriendly-of-late road. Chelsea continued an excellent run of road form with 758 on this turn, giving Eastside a great start against a recently-hot opponent. Smokey got beat on a low offering, and his swing-and-miss gave him 464 to start the Diamond attack. Taylor let the Sharks become vulnerable, hitting a puny 33 to add to their efforts. Citrus flicked 456 for the Gems on her turn, doing well enough to cover the deficit at the halfway mark as the hosts hold the lead now. Niki chipped in with 428 for Eastside, covering the deficit the other way to keep things interesting. Pedey couldn't catch up for Diamond, falling at 271 after just missing his target on a swing. The hosts trail late in the game. Paps went with 330 for the Sharks, not a great game, but it put them at 1559 overall, which forces a response from the hosts. Rosalina managed a middling 238 for the Gems, leaving them short at 1429. Eastside gets the win to go to 16-19, while Diamond is 14-32 on the year.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters play the second of a seven-game home stand, while the Union just now wrap up a six-game road trip. Ms. Puppy hopes to end the successful trip on a high note, starting Modernistic with a strong 560 in this game. Sydney barely cleared that high bar, but she put Harrison narrowly ahead with her 585 on the opening turn. Daisy countered with 335 for the Union, giving them a smaller lead on the second attack. Twinkie II ripped 652 in response for the Specters, doing a wonderful job of giving them the lead at the midway point of the game. Puff I had a modest 239 for Modernistic on her turn, unable to cover the deficit with such a performance. Lexi held her ground for Harrison, batting 471 to pad the lead a little bit before the final players come to bat. Strawberry faltered at 184 for the Union, giving them the loss with 1318. Sugar continued to slump, hitting a measly 48 for the Specters, but they already won with 1756, so no harm was done. Harrison makes the jump up to 16-23, while Modernistic takes a step back to 15-19.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles try to snap a five-game home losing streak, but the Rockers will be a tough draw for such a task. Misty was obviously outmatched in this game, taking a replay for a technical error and then scoring just 16 after a failed backhand, setting Westside behind early. Goldy couldn't produce much in the way of pace either, hitting a mild 260 for Everton to give them a small lead. Goatee contributed a decent 392 for the Rockers, but they are not operating smoothly yet. Puff III made a significant impact with 769 for the Eagles, giving them a solid lead at the midway point. Midnight pulled back with 505 for Westside, but she couldn't cover the deficit as the visitors watch this game slip out of their grip. Kirstin let the lead slip a bit with 378 for Everton, but they remain in a good position with a player each to go. Slinks went bit for the Rockers, paddling 968 to bring them to 1881 for their final score, forcing the hosts into a major response. Blizzard saw her pace absolutely crater near the end, and her 454 left the Eagles short at 1861 overall. Westside can't believe they won to get to 20-10, while Everton is reeling again at 20-16.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders hit midseason as they start a four-game home stand, hosting the Hummingbirds first to end this segment of the week. Princess had a swing get away from her, ending her turn at 96 for Tysini. Shadow also had a case of bad placement, but after working at a high pace long enough to collect 264 for Web City in one of his poorer starting efforts. Leandra failed to haul the Hummingbirds back in the game, taking a pathetic 92 on her turn. Ted had a good turn for the Spiders, hitting 480 to extend their lead a bit more at the halfway mark. Charli matched Ted exactly, striking 480 to keep Tysini somewhat involved in the game. Shiny weakened the Web City lead with an unfortunate bounce cutting her down at just 102, opening the door for the visitors to make a late push. Brownie cashed in on the chance to make it close, carving out 580 to put the Hummingbirds on a final of 1248, which the hosts will need to respond to. Dani couldn't do it with 160 for the Spiders, giving them only 1006 in the loss. Tysini improves to 13-19 on the year, while Web City is 14-21.

That's it for this segment. There won't be quite as much cricket played tomorrow due to personal commitments, but this is how things will be on Friday and the early part of next week. Follow along on Twitter @UnitedPCL for live updates.
