UPCL Cricket - Week 16 Part 2

We're back with the next segment of cricket action. We've got a heated rivalry leading this one off...

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames are set to host the lowly Crowns in a Castle Derby, and also a Southeast Divisional. Nightfur thought she deserved better than what she got to start things off, as she scored 343 for Royal despite a good pace and decent time at bat. Crystal got a bit distracted while going for a backhand, and she let it fall behind her, ending her effort at 402 for Queens to create a close start to the game. Jake showed quite a bit of quality for the Crowns, bashing 943 to give them a strong second lead. The Flames' Paige sold out for the rally, and ended early at 292, putting them in a hole. Kayla basically cancelled out that damage with 304 for Royal, maintaining their lead effectively. Violetta got taken out at 240 for Queens, as she split her swing between the rolling and bowled balls. Hannah couldn't sustain the Crowns offense with 113, leaving them at 1703 and hoping it will be enough. Max had 408 for the Flames on his turn, getting beat on a deflection that just skimmed his wicket to leave the hosts in a loss with 1342. Royal's surprise win gets them up to 10-21, while Queens is now 19-13 on the year.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes play their fifth of six straight at home against the Warriors, and never has the Sisterhood Derby had a more important match, as the winner claims second place. Twilight set the tone with 784 for Central as they begin the quest for the sweep of their rivals. Starlight once again had a good pace going for Pacific, but she squandered it with an early exit to score 426. Dustin chipped a decent 337 for the Warriors, doing well enough to keep them in a comfortable lead. Ms. Kitty made a cut into the deficit with 590 for the Volcanoes, closing the gap at the midway mark. Mario was not good enough for Central, taking a meager 90 points on a disappointing turn. Leonette just poked Pacific ahead with her 288, setting up a close finish to be determined by the final players on each roster. Gizmo forced a response with 192 for the Warriors, but he knows they are in trouble with a final of 1403. Chicky Phil had only 168 for the Volcanoes, but they won with 1472. Pacific takes second place at 25-11, while Central is 18-9 in a three-way tie for a distant third.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves look to continue a strong season against a rested Predators team. Shawn set Midland off pretty well on his turn, tallying 583 to give the visitors a strong start to the game. Snuggle wasn't even close to matching pace for Oceanside, and he scored 410 to keep them in range early on. Rainmane couldn't handle distractions very well, collapsing at 441 for the Predators once her attention was diverted from the pitch. Caitlin had an aggressive swing go awry for the Waves, ending her turn at a weak 152 as the hosts have fallen behind. Leonardo slipped at 196 for Midland, never quite having control over his short turn. Celestia cut deep into the deficit for Oceanside, slashing 609 in a remarkable comeback effort before the final players take their turns. Fuchsia gathered up 495 for the Predators on her turn, leaving their final score at 1715, a high mark that should challenge the hosts. Dewey couldn't provide the necessary points for the Waves, as 279 left them short at 1450. Midland is 17-16 now, while Oceanside goes to 20-18 on the year.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes look to gain some ground in the chase for first against a Sharks team that hasn't had much success on the road lately. Eastside's Chelsea maintained a strong pace in the early stages, and only ended after a tough bounce with 591 to start the visitors off well. Starlight answered with an even 700 for Pacific, edging them into the initial lead. Taylor covered the deficit for the Sharks, striking 388 to challenge the hosts a bit. Ms. Kitty bested that effort with 500 for herself, adding a little extra space to the Volcanoes lead at the halfway mark. Niki failed to cover the deficit for Eastside, letting the visitors fall behind in earnest with just 82 on her turn. Leonette failed to secure the lead for Pacific, hitting a paltry 122 that leaves them slightly vulnerable at this late stage of the game. Paps poked 306 for the Sharks, but they ended with 1367, forcing a small response from their hosts. Chicky Phil picked up 277 for the Volcanoes, doing plenty to earn them the win at 1599. Pacific is 26-11 on the year now, while Eastside suffers a setback to 14-19.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns begin a three-game home stand just as the Waves set off on a three-game road trip. Oceanside's Snuggle slugged 1215 to open the game, potentially setting the result before things really get going. Nightfur had only 242 in response, a poor effort for the Royal captain that sees her team far behind initially. Caitlin had a rare road misstep for the Waves, taking a meager 49, but their lead is not yet in danger. Jake didn't exactly inspire confidence with 131 for the Crowns on his turn, wasting the chance to really cut into the deficit. Celestia was not at her best for Oceanside either, producing a mediocre 211 to keep the lead fairly steady for now. Kayla cut the deficit facing Royal in about half with her 518, but they have a long way to go and little time to get there this late in the game. Dewey tapped a weak 93 for the Waves, leaving their final at 1568, which they'll have to hope is enough. Hannah had only 111 for the Crowns, putting their losing total at 1002. Oceanside is back to winning at 21-18, while Royal falls to 10-22 with the embarrassing loss.

Nestle's Warriors Field, Central: The Warriors can take sole possession of third place if they top a sturdy Predators side opposing them. Shawn remains the reliable hitter for Midland, swatting 615 this time to give them a nice first attack. Twilight countered in a strong way for Central, putting them ahead with her 736 for a high-scoring start to the game. Rainmane shot back with a weaker 314 for the Predators, covering the deficit but not by much. Dustin supported well for the Warriors, pounding 642 to extend their lead very well at the midway point. Leonardo tried a double hit for Midland, and it went very poorly for the veteran, as he ended with a paltry 24, leaving the visitors in a deep hole. Mario left the door open a crack with just 162 for Central, failing to really put the game away. Fuchsia had 280 for the Predators, but it was far from enough to help, and they lost with 1233 overall. Gizmo tapped 328 for the Warriors on his turn, bringing their final to 1868 in the win. Central is on a five-game home winning streak, improving to 19-9, while Midland drops back to even at 17-17.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks look to make it seven in a row at home when they bring in the fairly evenly matched Prestige. Acorn couldn't quite come up with a strong effort for Lighton, trying hard but falling early at 290. Chelsea had a tough swing that ended in a brutal deflection, stalling her at just 25 for Eastside in a terrible start. Spirit brought a little padding to the Prestige lead, slapping 425 with good pace on her turn. Taylor blasted 1062 for the Sharks to cover the deficit and then some, giving the hosts a noticeable lead at the halfway mark of the game. Twinkie I couldn't handle the pressure of producing a response, ending at a weak 144 for Lighton. Niki tapped only 184 for Eastside on her turn, keeping their lead steady late in the game despite the poor performance. Salmo couldn't force a response from the hosts, taking 346 on his turn as the Prestige suffered defeat with 1205. Paps tallied 344 for the Sharks, keeping the margin fairly even as they win with 1615. Eastside has won seven straight at home to get to 15-19, while Lighton drops to 12-16 with the disappointing loss.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems reach midseason against their Eastern Hills Division rivals, the Cascades, who are closing up a seven-game road trip. Jasmine wasted no time in earning a lead for Freedom, rocking 851 to set the visitors up nicely. Smokey tried to get a good response going for Diamond, but a ball got under his bat and ended his turn at 445, halving the deficit. Stinky did his part well for the Cascades, adding a supporting attack of 539 to their lead. Citrus stumbled at a meager 66 for the Gems, putting them even farther behind. Roxy had a good pace for Freedom, but couldn't make it hold up, ending at 231 with a misguided swing. Pedey tried to close down on the deficit a bit, batting 487 for Diamond, but they have a long way to go and only one more player to bat. Nikolai made a comeback even less likely for the hosts, as the big Cascades sophomore struck 784, putting his team at 2405 total. Rosalina had only 264 for the Gems, leaving them short at 1262 in the loss. Freedom's big win carries them to 10-16, while Diamond is 10-25 on the year, with a seven-game losing streak.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers take on the second-place Volcanoes, who are on the road for an odd game between two long home stands. Starlight ripped 922 for Pacific on the opening turn, setting the hosts on high alert with the impressive effort. Misty answered with 443 for Westside on her turn, hoping to keep her team's morale up. Ms. Kitty did her best to shatter that morale, hammering 961 for the Volcanoes to basically double their offense. Goatee attempted to mitigate the damage for the Rockers, swinging freely to score 762, but the deficit is large at the halfway mark. Leonette chopped 739 for Pacific in response, keeping their lead steady once again as the hosts become frustrated. Midnight put up a Herculean effort with 1608 for Westside, covering the deficit by a noticeable margin to set up a thrilling finish. Chicky Phil hit 416 for the Volcanoes, a low mark in a game like this that leaves them vulnerable at 3038, but the hosts do have to respond. Slinks completed the job with 694 for the Rockers, icing their win at 3507. Westside's big comeback takes them to 19-9, while Pacific is 26-12, and still in second place.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores play their second of a four-game home stand against the Meteors in their three-game road trip finale. Mams started with a decent effort, scoring 407 for Viewpoint Sound to lead things off. Bear didn't have the cleanest swing for Whitewater, ending on a mild 220 as the hosts start this one from behind. Hoot nearly cleaned up a mistake that required him to go to his backhand, but a subsequent deflection ended his effort at 292 as the Meteors hold a tenuous lead. Twinkie III covered the deficit with 487 for the Shores, giving them a very narrow lead halfway through the game. Nibbles got Viewpoint Sound back on track with a big 745, the unexpected burst putting them far ahead. Marsell slipped at 162 for Whitewater on his turn, setting them back late in the game. Dominic continued with 755 for the Meteors, setting their final score at 2199, which should be enough to win. Shaggy produced 445 for the Shores, but they fell short at 1314 in the loss. Viewpoint Sound's surprising win carries them to 10-15, while bumping Whitewater back to 12-12.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks begin a doubleheader with a home game against their Northeast Division rivals, the Archtown Arrows. Sally got off to a good start with 500 for Archtown, enough to intimidate their home-weary hosts. Fluffina could barely handle the chaos around her bat, managing a backhand but overcompensating later to end on 117 for Maplewood. Sleepy B. absolutely crushed it on her turn, with 1508 to pad the Arrows lead significantly in the second attack. Diddley had a defiant response for the Lumberjacks, pummeling 915 on his turn to give his team a sign of life. Ruby tapped only 99 for Archtown on her turn, almost taunting her sister's team with the poor effort. Bryant capitalized on the laziness, making a deep run of 769 for Maplewood to bring them within striking distance with a player each to go. Dusky kept up the keep-away routine for the Arrows, drilling 980 to give them a final of 3087 in what should be a win. Waluigi had 401 to bring the Lumberjacks to 2202, still a loss but the best of their eight-game home skid. Archtown's sassy win gets them to 16-18 with the season split, while Maplewood is 12-21 now.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Lumberjacks hope to find that offense against a struggling Shores side in their third of a four-game home stand. Fluffina struggled with pace for Maplewood, ending on 156 after following through too much on her swing. Bear did well to flip 512 for Whitewater, establishing a lead for the hosts with the good performance. Diddley tried a backhand when a ball got behind him, but this stalled him at 215 for the Lumberjacks when he sent it too high. Twinkie III was relentless for the Shores, riding a successful groove to 936 to pad their lead at the midway point. Bryant tried to get into a similar groove for Maplewood, but he fell off at 337 with a slightly off-target swing. Marsell churned out another 767 for Whitewater on his turn, extending their lead nicely once again. Waluigi had a pathetic 80 for the Lumberjacks, leaving them at a loss with 788. Shaggy made it quick with 21 for the Shores, icing their win at 2236. Whitewater is back above even at 13-12, while Maplewood's eighth straight loss overall drops them to 12-22.

That's it for this segment. Live updates are on Twitter @UnitedPCL, and the final segment of this week should be live tomorrow night at the latest.
