UPCL Cricket - Week 18 Part 1

We're back for the week in the season that takes us past the league's middle game, which occurs halfway through the second segment of the week. For now, we begin with...

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles return to start this week after two weeks off, facing a Flames team that passed them in the standings. Crystal showed decent resilience for Queens despite a slow pace, gathering 526 to establish her side pretty well. Goldy put Everton ahead with a return to form in hitting 608 on a strong opening effort from the home captain. Paige made a larger impact with 890 for the Flames in the second attack, setting them far ahead. Puff III couldn't provide her typical comeback try, going backhand too aggressively and ending at just 84 for the trailing Eagles. Violetta had a very calm turn with 295 for Queens, keeping the lead healthy despite not doing much. Kirstin dug in with 519 for Everton, helping regain some of the deficit but still needing much more as the final players come to bat. Max likely did enough to secure the Flames win, pounding 735 to give them 2446 overall. Blizzard batted 441 for the Eagles, but they ended up with the loss anyway at 1652. Queens is surging in all venues at 21-13, while Everton drops to 19-14 on a fourth straight home loss.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames make a quick turnaround to come home for their midseason match against the Prestige. Acorn provided a good start for Lighton with 560 after successfully overcoming an early scare with a backhanded hit. Crystal fell off at 173 for Queens, leaving them in an early deficit with the poor performance. Spirit lacked much pace on her turn, lightly hitting her way to 335 for the Prestige to pad their lead a little bit. Paige couldn't get a good angle for the Flames on her turn, ending at a meager 105 as the deficit grows at the midway mark. Twinkie I had one of her better appearances for Lighton in this game, slashing 919 confidently to extend their lead even more. Violetta set out quickly on rallying path, but faded just as fast at 385, leaving Queens with little hope of getting back in this game. Salmo lashed out with another 630 for the Prestige, setting their final at 2444. Max got beat on a deflection, trying to go backhand and forehand, but ending at 432 when the play failed. Lighton jumps up to 16-16, while Queens slips back to 21-14 so far.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders have a long home losing streak to snap, but the Rockers are in town hoping to extend their hosts' misery. Misty has the seeds of a road slump planting, hitting a poor 138 for Westside in this appearance. Shadow paddled another 650 for Web City, a typically strong effort from the captain to put his team ahead. Goatee struggled to boost her pace for the Rockers, ending with 328 after an uninspiring turn at bat. Ted fired back with 522 for the Spiders, doing his part to add to their lead at the halfway mark of the game. Midnight couldn't cover the deficit for Westside, but she pulled in 447 in a fairly decent effort given the performance of her team. Shiny kept the Web City offense steady with 589, their most balanced and successful performance as a team in a long time. Slinks ended on a paltry 133 for the Rockers, leaving them short at 1046 in a brutal loss. Dani tapped another 336 to bring the Spiders to their final of 2097, an impressive win. Web City snaps a five-game home losing streak to get to 13-19, while Westside collapses to 19-10, on the very edge of the top tier.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds are looking to extend their home success, while the Monarchs would like a split in their two-game inland excursion. Panda got hit with two replays, and on his third try at a valid turn, he hit a measly 20 for a weak Southern starting effort. Princess made sure to capitalize on the opponent's mistake, carving out 906 very quickly for a big Tysini lead. Hoppy covered the deficit with 927 for the Monarchs, a surprising burst from the rookie. Leandra fired back with ease, posting 520 to restore a smaller Hummingbirds lead at the midway mark. Pounce couldn't cover the deficit for Southern, scoring 384 in a decent performance from the veteran. Charli scooped another 717 for Tysini, padding their lead significantly late in the game. Shannon put in a solid effort with 476 for the Monarchs, but they took the loss at 1807. Brownie played a solid game with 416 for the Hummingbirds, capping their big win at 2559. Tysini moves up to 11-19, while Southern slides to 9-21 despite a high offense.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes look to break a home losing streak, with the hopes that the last-place Gems will be the right opponent for that task. Smokey made a massive impression for Diamond on his turn, scoring 962 in a great opening attack. Smudge's slump continued with a measly 33 for Infinity here, putting the team far behind. Citrus tacked on another 447 for the Gems, padding their lead in a secondary effort on offense. Solaris was cruising until a fast paced offering took him out with 584 for the Torpedoes, making small progress on the deficit. Pedey answered with a good 471 for Diamond, keeping their lead strong and steady with his performance. Whiskers tried a soft placement play, but ended up missing the mark and scoring 287 as Infinity slips further behind late in the game. Rosalina iced the Gems at 2105 overall with her individual 225, a poor but acceptable mark for the game situation. Mr. Snowman hauled in 604 for the Torpedoes, but it was in a lost cause, as they ended with 1508 in the loss. Diamond gets a surprise win to go to 13-29, while Infinity sinks to 23-16.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters, winners of five straight at home, return to begin a seven-game home stand against the Tradewinds. Tigerette couldn't get control of her turn for Commerce, ending abruptly at 225. Sydney put in a fairly composed effort for Harrison on her turn, hitting 481 to set them ahead early on. Ice Cream stepped up well for the Tradewinds, slapping 553 to cover the deficit at this stage in the game. Twinkie II tried to get tricky with her swing, and paid for it by scoring a meager 28 for the Specters, who now trail at the half. Lionel got beat on a tough deflection, adding only 113 to the Commerce offense, which is now in a vulnerable position. Lexi did enough to regain the lead for Harrison, batting 418 to set them slightly ahead before the final players take their turns. Lorde chipped the Tradewinds back into the lead, having one effort wiped out on a replay, and then scoring 9 better with 336, leaving her side at 1227 overall. Sugar choked the game away with 54 for the Specters, leaving them at 981 in the loss. Commerce is now 13-20, just a hair behind the 15-23 Harrison side.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades have a tough task ahead as they close a three-game home stand against the Nighthawks, who are in the third of ten straight on the road. Peach tried to poke a ball that jammed her hands, but she sent it high and out to end her effort at 361 for North Modernistic. Jasmine couldn't pull Freedom even, hitting a mediocre 264 in a rare misstep. Luigi didn't play aggressively, scraping his way to 528 with a low pace but steady swing to pad the Nighthawks lead. Stinky belted 912 for the Cascades in response, starting fast and switching to calm later in the turn as the hosts claim a big lead. Cheddar continues her second half slide with only 200 for North Modernistic this time, not enough to cover the deficit. Roxy bested her teammate, sending Freedom even farther ahead by blasting 935 to create a likely insurmountable lead. Bright plucked 407 for the Nighthawks, but they took another loss at 1496, their fifth straight defeat. Nikolai capped a big Cascades win with 615, and their final stands at 2726. Freedom's big win takes them to 11-18, while North Modernistic is 20-20 due to the road-heavy schedule they've faced.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems open a five-game home stand in this eight-game week for them, hosting the similarly-struggling Hummingbirds. Princess cranked out 672 for Tysini on the opening turn, setting a hostile tone immediately. Smokey answered with 519 for Diamond, a good performance as they try to snap their nine-game home losing streak. Leandra lost focus slightly for the Hummingbirds, which caused her exit at 393 as she tried to maintain the lead. Citrus made some minor progress with 436 for the Gems, shrinking the deficit at the midway mark. Charli shelved 353 for Tysini in the hopes that it would hold off their offense-hungry hosts. Pedey chipped Diamond a bit closer with 415 on his turn, setting up what will be a close finish decided by the final players. Brownie put up a respectable 388 for the Hummingbirds, finishing their scoring at 1806. Rosalina fell short at 376 for the Gems, leaving them with a narrow loss at 1746. Tysini gets lucky to win at this point, going to 12-19, while Diamond is 13-30 on the year with a busy schedule ahead.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs hope to make a move upward, while the Prestige would like to venture north of .500. Acorn appeared to have things under control at first, but quickly got overwhelmed at 192 for Lighton, a weak start. Panda shot back with 661 for Southern on his turn, giving them a strong initial lead. Spirit lined 848 for the Prestige in response, covering the deficit with her impressive performance. Hoppy couldn't quite regain the lead for the Monarchs, as she hit 369 and left them narrowly behind halfway through the game. Twinkie I got cut down on an unfortunate deflection for Lighton, ending at 343 in a decent performance. Pounce charged forward with 816 for Southern on his turn, giving them a huge advantage with a player each to go. Salmo lifted 496 for the Prestige, forcing a response as they close at 1879. Shannon matched the effort with 496 for the Monarchs, putting them at 2342 in the win. Southern improves to 10-21, while Lighton slips back under an even record at 16-17.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills are back at home in this game, getting set to face the inconsistent Spiders. Shadow didn't have the most even performance to start this game, but he led things off with 408 for Web City, a solid mark. Easter got split with a ball on each side of her bat, causing her to bail at just 74 for Todavía in a treacherously weak start. Ted failed to really put the game out of reach for the Spiders, posting 337 in an acceptable turn. Sierra turned the game around at the halfway mark, slugging 1319 for the Stills to give them the large lead. Shiny didn't appear to give much of an effort to keep up, hitting a pathetic 103 for the now-trailing Web City. Sparkles easily bested her sister with 384 for Todavía, doing her part to pad the gargantuan lead the hosts have accrued. Dani put up a strong 510 for the Spiders, but it was too late to save their game, and they fell with 1358 overall as their final score. Bells brought in another 486 for the Stills, doing more than enough to ice their win at 2263. Todavía returns to an even record at 18-18, while Web City falls to 13-20.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights try to reverse recent issues against a Predators team right in the thick of the playoff race. Shawn let it be known that Midland would not be an easy target, crashing his way to 866 to establish a strong lead for his side. Kiwi didn't have the best pace, but she was determined in getting 562 for Terrace City despite non-ideal circumstances. Rainmane wiped out that damage with 578 for the Predators, using a deft backhand touch to keep her turn going. Jennifer shrunk the deficit a little more with 651 for the Knights, ending only as a ball slid off her backhand and into the stumps. Leonardo came up big for Midland, protecting their lead with his 736, a great effort in the high-scoring affair this game has become. Oreo held him off with 744 for Terrace City, but matching results in the middle still sees the hosts trailing. Fuchsia left the Predators vulnerable with her 264, finishing the offense at 2444. Stripes hit a poor 89 for the Knights, sealing their loss at 2046. Midland just gets this win to go to 19-18, while Terrace City drops again to 22-16.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: A losing streak will end in the segment finale, as the Gems play their second of a five-game home stand against the Lumberjacks. Fluffina got a bit sloppy with her swing when a ball got under her bat, accelerating her demise at 280 for Maplewood. Smokey staked out a modest lead for Diamond on his turn, contributing 499 to get the game started. Diddley flicked only 211 for the Lumberjacks, not even enough to cover the minor deficit his team faced. Citrus really piled on with 1206 for the Gems, bashing her way to a massive lead for the hosts at the halfway mark. Bryant got about half of it back with 619 for Maplewood, not enough to make the visitors any closer to truly competing. Pedey tapped 195 for Diamond, unconcerned that his low mark weakened the lead for the hosts late in the game. Waluigi poked 99 for the Lumberjacks, setting their fifth straight road loss at 1209. Rosalina didn't have much of a response with 131 for the Gems, but they did win with 2031 total. Diamond continues to rise at 14-30, while Maplewood sinks to 12-25 with another loss.

That's it for this segment of games. We'll have more right after this live on @UnitedPCL on Twitter, and with a new post due either tonight or tomorrow morning.
