UPCL Cricket - Week 18 Part 3

We begin the last segment of the week with an interesting game in...

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems end a five-game home stand in their sixth game of the week, while the Nighthawks play their fourth of ten straight on the road. Peach made somewhat of a rebound from recent efforts, carving out 591 for North Modernistic to lead off the game. Smokey did even better for Diamond, blasting his way to 982 to give the hosts the initial lead. Luigi narrowly covered the deficit for the Nighthawks with his 443. Citrus barely reclaimed any lead at all for the Gems, but her 108 did give them a slight advantage at the halfway mark of the game. Cheddar answered with 629 for North Modernistic, giving them another decent chance at the lead. Pedey couldn't match the pace, falling at 264 and setting Diamond behind late in the game. Bright tapped 304 to bring the Nighthawks to their final score of 1967. Rosalina made an honest effort for the Gems, but 433 was not enough to help avoid the loss at 1787. North Modernistic breaks their five-game losing streak to go to 21-20, while Diamond drops to 14-33 now.

Google Pitch at Union Ground: The Union hit midseason in this game, their first at home in six games, while the Warriors play a one-off on the road. Twilight slugged 1056 for Central, continuing her recent road surge with another pristine performance. Ms. Puppy did not bow out of the game, firing back on a strong 671 for Modernistic to keep hope alive. Dustin remained sharp for the Warriors this time, countering on 502 to protect their lead well. Daisy made up a bit of ground for the Union, swatting 656 to get them even close at the midway point. Mario had a respectable 410 for Central on his turn, but he's concerned it might not be enough against their aggressive hosts. Puff I made another dent in the deficit with 479 for Modernistic, as the two teams hurtle their high offenses to a close finish. Gizmo staved off that attack with 480 for the Warriors, bringing their final score to 2448. Strawberry couldn't complete the comeback for the Union with 256, ending their game at 2062 in the loss. Central is now 21-10, while Modernistic falls to 15-20 at midseason.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Surfers are eyeing a season sweep after winning their home opener over the Prestige, but their hosts have a different plan for heading into midseason. Watermelon pushed aside a number of offerings to get to 615 for Pearl in a strong opening turn. Acorn fired back with 659, out-dueling his mark to give Lighton the initial lead in the budding rivalry. Neopolitan countered with 442 for the Surfers, restoring a small lead for the visitors. Spirit very lightly covered the deficit with 417 for the Prestige, making it a close game halfway through. Boots got a bit too much on one of her swings, fading at 375 for Pearl as their lead weakens again. Twinkie I couldn't keep up, bailing at 183 with an awkward swing that has Lighton in danger of taking the loss. Wings carried quite the load with 643 for the Surfers, putting them at a final of 2075, which will take a large effort to top. Salmo had pace early on for the Prestige, but couldn't last long enough, falling at 232 in the loss with 1491. Pearl swept the season series to get to 18-16, while Lighton drops down to 16-19.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers are set to host the Gems, who set out on a three-game road trip feeling fully fatigued in their seventh game this week. Smokey continues to hit well for Diamond despite the busy week, tallying 551 this time out on the road. Misty kept a better pace for a longer game for Westside, drilling 786 to put the hosts in front initially. Citrus covered the deficit with 472 for the Gems, but they aren't as comfortable after the second attack. Goatee boosted the Rockers lead a bit with 535 on her turn, a strong counterattack to preserve the lead. Diamond finally fell truly behind when Pedey scored only 240 on his turn, the modest effort unable to cover the deficit his team faced. Midnight couldn't help Westside at all, losing a bit of the lead with 162 on a poor turn from the veteran. Rosalina didn't make a comeback for the Gems, ending at 167 to give them their losing final of 1430. Under no pressure, Slinks racked up 692 for the Rockers, bringing their final score to 2175 in the big win. Westside is now 21-10 on the year, while Diamond falls to 14-34.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles look to get a grip on their season, but the Stills hope their two-game trek in the Northeast can be fruitful. Easter took some big swings, but one got away from her and stalled her turn at 392 for Todavía. Goldy slowed her demise but couldn't stop it on her backhand, buying time for a couple more swings before falling at 296 for Everton. Sierra flicked a decent 417 for the Stills, adding a solid score to their lead. The Eagles offense is sputtering today, as Puff III couldn't get any more than 289 despite having a strong swing. Sparkles did her part to make things more difficult for the hosts, padding the Todavía lead nicely with her 609. Kirstin essentially negated that attack with her 608 for Everton, but they're still behind with a player each to go in this game. Bells added 552 for the Stills on her turn, setting the score to beat 1970 for their final. Blizzard got beat at 277 on a deflection, sending the Eagles to a seventh straight home loss at 1420. Todavía can be proud of an impressive victory, improving to 19-18, while Everton drops to 20-17, just a game ahead at this point.

GE Stadium, Southridge: This Southeast Divisional doubles as the Castle Derby and Navy Blues Derby, although neither team will wear their primary color as they each seek a much-needed win. Nightfur didn't get the start she wanted for Royal, barely fighting her way to 264 in a poor start. Southridge's Bianca answered with confidence amid bouts of chaos, bashing 801 to give the hosts a good lead. Jake accidentally deflected a ball off the end of his bat, ending at 192 for the Crowns as they slip farther behind. Debby gave the Defenders a good appearance as well, extending their lead with her 527. Kayla grabbed only 311 for Royal on her turn, further reducing their chances of a comeback. Stephanie gathered a decent 447 for Southridge, adding a bit more to their lead at this late stage. Hannah tried a rally with 526 for the Crowns, bringing them to their losing final of 1293. Hughbert tacked on 664 for the Defenders at the end, lifting their winning score to 2439. Southridge gets the rivalry win to go to 17-24, while Royal is 10-25 with the loss.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks face a very difficult challenge when the Blades come to town, hungry to add to their league lead. Snowball saw another rough road start with only 147 for Swordpoint in this appearance. Fluffina couldn't even cover that for Maplewood, with her paltry 139 seeing both teams start slow. Dreamy provided a more stable effort for the Blades, batting 401 in a decent turn from the veteran. Diddley stumbled at a measly 48 for the Lumberjacks, putting them far behind at the halfway mark once again. Bandit crushed 1024 for Swordpoint out of nowhere, likely assuring the visitors of a victory given their shaky hosts. Bryant did his best to keep Maplewood respectable, churning out 770 in response in an excellent effort from the veteran. Stealth added another 982 for the Blades, capping their impressive and late surge at 2554 in what should be a win. Waluigi collected 536 in a good turn for the Lumberjacks, but it was much too late as they lost with 1493. Swordpoint adds to their league lead at 28-10, while Maplewood is 12-26 after their tenth straight home loss.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors try to stave off a surging Arrows side in this Northeast Divisional in the Northlands Derby. Sally didn't do all that well for Archtown, falling off pace and then ending at only 222. Twilight belted 1062 for Central, giving them a sturdy lead initially with another impressive performance. After a deflection, Sleepy B. proved unable to realign her shot, stalling out with 304 when she went too high, which keeps the Arrows trailing. Dustin had two replays for technical errors, but he got progressively worse, ending at 167 for the Warriors on the third try. Ruby was already committed to swing when an odd deflection caused her to shank her swing and end at a meager 51 for Archtown. Mario drilled 692 for Central in a positive turn for the hosts, extending their lead late in the game. Dusky had 336 for the Arrows, an alright score, but the team lost with 913 in a brutal defeat. Gizmo did very well with 648 for the Warriors, bringing their winning score to 2569. Central cruised to the win to go to 22-10, while Archtown drops to 20-20 on the year.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Equalizers Derby sees the Tradewinds going for a sweep, while the Gems' eighth and final game this week has them thoroughly exhausted. Smokey could only watch as a deflection finished his turn at only 171, starting Diamond off poorly. Tigerette went at a bit of a slow pace for Commerce, but her 404 sufficed to give the hosts the early lead. Citrus replied with 438 for the Gems, doing enough to cover the deficit this time around. Ice Cream had a laughable 25 for the Tradewinds on her turn, putting them behind at the halfway mark. Pedey mustered up all the strength he could to score 504 for Diamond, extending their lead a little more with the effort. Lionel also faltered early for Commerce in his comeback attempt, ending with a sorry 106 as the hosts may get upset this time. Rosalina swung wildly for the Gems, but managed to accrue 743 on her turn, putting the team at 1856, a lofty level. Lorde ran out of scoring power at 412 for the Tradewinds, leaving them at 947 in a surprising loss. The Gems earn the split to go to 15-34 for the year, including 3-5 this week, while Commerce slips to 13-21.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union start their second half with a tough game against the Tridents. Precious had an unusually weak 225 for Pronger to open the scoring, setting the visitors in a tough position early on. Ms. Puppy capitalized on the chance to give Modernistic a nice lead, batting a strong 590 on a good turn. Zach ripped 818 for the Tridents on his turn, getting them back into the game with the remarkably pacey performance. Daisy couldn't match the effort, ending on 263 as the Union have slipped behind at the midway point of the game. Spot added 312 for Pronger, an acceptable mark after having a slow start for the rookie. Puff I put in a great effort to cover the deficit with 748 for Modernistic, giving them a lead as the final players come to bat. Potter put in a good challenge with 600 for the Tridents, the incredible pace of his game lifting his team to 1955 overall. Strawberry did enough with 438 to earn the win for the Union at 2039. Modernistic is happy to get the close win, going to 16-20, while Pronger slips to 17-14 on the year.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers reach midseason while the Pirates play in their third of a seven-game road trip. Delila popped 337 for Atlantic, ending early when a ball caught the end of her bat and went out of play. Watermelon didn't match that, hitting 288 in a mild turn for Pearl that sees them start this game from behind. Isabella had only 176 for the Pirates, a poor turn in what's quickly becoming a low-scoring game. Neopolitan rallied the Surfers into the lead, going at a good pace to put up 609 and give the home team the midway lead. Americus fired back with 650 for Atlantic, covering the deficit the other way to restore the visitors' lead. Boots couldn't quite cover the deficit for Pearl with a mediocre 248, but the game is close with just a player each to go. Klaus launched 945 for the Pirates at the end, the stunning performance serving to get their final score to 2108, a tough score to match. Wings failed at 147 for the Surfers, leaving them with a loss at 1292. Atlantic's stunning surge at the end gives them a 24-14 record, while Pearl is 18-17.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters are out for blood as they take on the struggling Eagles in this Northeast Divisional for the Week 18 finale. Goldy did well to get Everton off to a stable start with 593, one of her better recent efforts. Sydney kept the game close at first, striking 490 for Harrison to keep them in attacking range. Puff III did well in mitigating the hosts' first attack, contributing 519 for the Eagles this time. Twinkie II couldn't quite keep up for the Specters, swatting 448 but letting the deficit grow a little larger at the halfway mark. Kirstin showed impressive composure for Everton in a great turn, tallying 688 to pad the lead once again. Lexi got beat on a tough deflection for Harrison, watching as they fall farther behind with the veteran's 353-point outing. Blizzard poked in with 471 for the Eagles at the end, giving them a final of 2271, which they expect will hold up. Sugar's recent struggles continue with 64 for the Specters, icing their loss at 1355. Everton improves to 21-17, with a 6-2 division mark, and Harrison is 16-24, 0-6 in division.

That's it for this league week of games. Week 19 should get going later tonight and be done on Sunday. The plan is to be done with Week 20 before Wednesday, to coincide with the A-level Second Round starting on Thursday for pool.
