We're back for the middle segment of Week 19, beginning in...
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows return home for a game, while the Sharpshooters embark on a four-game road trip in this debut of the segment. Chris couldn't shake the lousy deflections even with a technical error replay, ending at 239 for Capital City in a poor start. Sally fired back with 640 for Archtown, doing a great job to give them the initial lead. Missy had a disturbingly quick exit for the Sharpshooters, corralling only 21 points on her turn. Sleepy B. essentially doubled the Arrows lead, using a fortunate bounce to extend her turn to 647. Capital City is lining up to be just about uniformly bad, as Sprinkles had no pace and no precision, ending on a sorry 117. Ruby almost assuredly put the game away in Archtown's favor, clobbering 873 to pad the lead once again in the later stages. Nicole hit 384 for the Sharpshooters, bringing them to their losing total of 758. Dusky tacked on 593 for the Arrows, giving them a final of 2753. Archtown is above even at 21-20, while Capital City's bad loss takes them to 21-18.
Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames face quite the test in their return home, hosting the surprisingly strong Tridents this time. Precious had a mild 263 for Pronger, far from her most fear-inspiring efforts of the season for the visitors. Crystal had a good performance for Queens, slicing 626 to give the hosts a firm lead at the start. Zach lifted the Tridents back into the game with an excellent performance, scoring 692 to cover the deficit this time around. Paige kept up the feast-or-famine routine for the Flames, slugging 1223 to pad their lead significantly at the midway mark. Spot did very little on his odd turn, dropping off to wind up a big swing that ended his turn at 298 for Pronger. Violetta countered with 528 for Queens, extending the lead a bit more before the final players come to bat. Potter had a measly 64 for the Tridents at the end, sealing their loss at 1317. Max rallied for 672 more for the Flames, icing their winning total at 3049. Queens rises to 23-14, while Pronger slides again to 17-16.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts are set to hit midseason, with only the inconsistent Wolves standing in their way of getting their positively. Juno had a strong turn for Stonebridge with 667, but her loss of control at the end resulted in a sloppy spike for the out. Patches' mini-slump continued for Boston, as she finished with a light 256 on her turn. Frosty had a great pace going until she sent a ball sky-high, causing a quick ending at 144 for the Wolves. Puff II worked on denting the deficit, but she struggled to raise her pace, falling short of the mark with 418 for the Swifts at the halfway mark. Cobalt scatted only 220 for Stonebridge, a poor effort that puts their lead in jeopardy. Gradley chose to accept 359 for Boston, declining the optional replay to make it a dead heat with a player each to go. Prism did not do well at all, with only 145 to get the Wolves to a final of 1176. Sweetheart again did enough to snag the win, scoring 327 individually to get them to 1360 collectively in the win. Boston is at 22-13, while Stonebridge is 15-21 on the year.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades can't afford another loss, as the top team takes on the second-from-bottom Gems, who play their 50th game of the year. Smokey, still a bit tired from the last week, knocked 529 to establish a good effort for Diamond. Snowball looked happy to be back home for Swordpoint, smashing 793 to break her recent slump. Citrus couldn't elevate her game to the same level, faltering with only 120 for the Gems in a bad turn. Dreamy had a bit of a jittery start for the Blades, but she settled in to score 392 when it was over, a decent mark. Pedey couldn't cover the deficit with 345 for Diamond, keeping the visitors in a hole they can't quite escape. Bandit fired back with 581 for Swordpoint, doing a great job to add significantly to their lead. Rosalina hit 304 for the Gems, leaving them at 1298 in the loss that they were no match for from the start. Stealth made it easy with 233 for the Blades, giving them 1999 in a big win. Swordpoint retains the league lead at 29-12, while Diamond sits at 15-35.
Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Nighthawks are in the sixth of a ten-game road trip when they return to the Eastern Hills to face the Tridents. Peach tried to play aggressively at the start, but she hit a ball too high, ending at 36 for North Modernistic in a terrible start. Precious refused an optional replay for a technical error, accepting 560 as the starting score for Pronger in a good turn. Luigi got too casual at the end of his turn for the Nighthawks, taking only 176 on a poorly-aimed swing. Zach also rejected an optional replay, ending at 258 for the Tridents as they maintain a decent lead. Cheddar popped up out of nowhere with 719 for North Modernistic, throwing some urgency in the game to cover the deficit for now. Spot bashed 1045 for Pronger in response, doing everything necessary to solidify their lead. Bright countered with 450 for the Nighthawks, but they lost with 1381 overall. Potter had a sloppy finish with a measly 24 for the Tridents, but they won with 1387. Pronger halts their slide at 18-16, while North Modernistic goes under .500 at 21-22.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds host their fourth of five straight games, with the red-hot Archtown Arrows coming in as the opponent. Sally had a good pace, but a ball got away from her early and stalled her turn at 361 for Archtown, a decent opener. Tigerette had a much lower pace, but better longevity, getting Commerce close with her 327. Sleepy B. was distracted from the start of her turn for the Arrows, ending at a poor 147 as their lead weakens. Ice Cream made minimal progress for the Tradewinds, with her 160 making the game slightly closer at the low-scoring halfway mark. Ruby poked 367 for Archtown to restore the lead to its original strength. Lionel was calm on his turn, but a ball went too high and ended things at 178, setting Commerce behind with just a player each to go. Dusky got jammed on her turn, ending with 197 to set the Arrows' precariously low final at 1072. Lorde got beat on a bad deflection, ending with 76 for the Tradewinds in their loss at 741. Archtown takes a sloppy victory to get to 22-20, while Commerce falls to 15-22 in the embarrassing defeat.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The home-friendly Spurs play their second of a seven-game home stand against the last-place Royal Crowns, who have very little to play for. Nightfur started things off in great form for Royal, slashing 631 to open the scoring. Spice crushed 1698 for Victoria, taking a good pace and extending it for a very long turn to put the hosts comfortably in front. Jake put in a good effort to get 682 for the Crowns, attempting to mitigate the damage Spice did against them. Yekaterina unleashed an epic supporting run of 977 for the Spurs, padding their lead quite a bit. Kayla misplayed a ball on a deflection, ending at 359 for Royal as their chances of rally are slim. B. Chapman tacked on 1661 for Victoria in a massive performance that set them over 4k, the fifteenth team to ever exceed that mark. Hannah gave up the fight at 90 for the Crowns, leaving them with 1762 in an unfortunate loss. Wario hit 431 for the Spurs, denying them the chance to be the seventh team to break 5k, but leaving them with a big win at 4767. Victoria is one of the hottest teams in the league, improving to 19-19, while Royal is 10-26 with the loss.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts need to get their offense on track against the slumping Torpedoes in this critical game for positioning. Smudge fought off a number of tough offerings, but couldn't control the game, ending at 345 in an acceptable performance for Infinity. Patches found a way out of her slump, ripping 618 for Boston to begin the game with the hosts in the lead. Solaris tried to compensate on a late swing, but it backfired, ending his turn at 176 for the Torpedoes. Puff II had her back against the wall for the Swifts, but still popped up with 424 at the end of her turn. Whiskers crashed her way to 744 for Infinity, covering the deficit with the appearance. Gradley replied with 376 for Boston on his turn, giving them a minor lead before the final players step up to bat. Mr. Snowman struck 354 for the Torpedoes, forcing the hosts to reply as the visitors closed at 1619. Sweetheart was up to the task, matching with 354 after a slow start to earn the Swifts a win with 1772. Boston rises again to 23-13, all the way to 6th place, while Infinity is down to 23-17 with the loss.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors play their first game of the week, while the Waves hope their bye week did them good, as they have a slump to break. Snuggle showed off crisp batting, fresh from the week off as he batted 556 for Oceanside to open the game. Central's Twilight countered with 803 for the hosts, putting them ahead with a methodical attack. Caitlin played a slower game than her captain, but produced 575 for the Waves to cover the deficit temporarily. Dustin answered with 384 for the Warriors, barely regaining a lead for the hosts at the midway mark. Celestia provided some much-needed pressure for Oceanside, hitting 456 to put the hosts in a deeper hole. Mario fought off that challenge quite successfully with 559 for Central, giving them a noticeable lead late in the game. Dewey used a strong pace and accurate hitting to round up 609 for the Waves, forcing a response as the visitors close with 2196. Gizmo ended on 221 for the Warriors, leaving them short at 1960. Oceanside's stunning win gets them to 23-21, while Central drops to 22-11 with the loss.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems begin a three-game home stand against the Pilots, who are in the fourth of a five-game road trip themselves. Valencia churned out 616 for Golden, making an impact right from the start with her batting. Smokey couldn't handle an early offering, sending it out to end his turn with just 129 for Diamond. Dusty didn't pull the Pilots away, taking a rare misstep with 48 in a decidedly horrible turn. Citrus made a decent effort at capitalizing, but a cluster of balls on the pitch helped take her down short of matching the deficit, at 346, for the Gems. Strut mitigated the damage with his 353 for Golden, keeping them in control of the chaotic game. Pedey came up clutch with one backhand, but his next one let him down at 215 for Diamond, allowing the deficit to widen once more. A. Charlton also ended her turn on a faulty backhand for the Pilots, scoring 431 to put them at 1448 total. Rosalina put in a good effort with 567 for the rally, but the Gems took the loss with 1257. Golden remains strong at 25-11, while Diamond is assured of a losing season at 15-36.
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters try to bounce back once again in the fourth of a seven-game home stand, while the Stills also try to stay on the rise. Easter couldn't get comfortable for Todavía, ending on 146 in an unusually low turn from the captain. Sydney got beat on a rolled offering, giving Harrison only 209 to start the game with a modest lead. Sierra did a better job in the second attack, producing 512 to give the Stills a more respectable lead. Twinkie II had a very unfortunate bounce, nerfing her turn at 20 for the Specters, who now trail significantly. Sparkles continued her recent surge in quality play with 568 for Todavía in this game, providing a much needed boost. Lexi tried to rally for Harrison, gathering 454 in a good individual effort, but not enough to help that much in the game context. Bells tacked on 466 for the Stills at the end, bringing their total score to 1692. Sugar countered with 561 for the Specters, but it was too late, and they lost with 1244. Todavía is up to 20-18 with the win, while Harrison dips to 16-25.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds, finally looking like themselves, take on the Cascades in the segment finale. Jasmine did alright with 440 for Freedom at the start, although she was not pleased with the sloppy finish to her turn. Princess couldn't get a handle on her turn for Tysini, ending at 126 in a sub-par effort. Stinky left the door open for the Cascades to get caught, hitting a measly 60 on his poor turn. Leandra made it pretty close on her turn, only ending when she tried to clear too many balls at once, ending with 368 for the Hummingbirds. Roxy matched that damage well for Freedom with 368 herself, restoring their lead for now. Charli broke out on a rally with 650 for Tysini, giving them the lead with the final players coming to bat. Nikolai did cover the deficit with 373 for the Cascades, giving them 1241 total for the game. Brownie choked it away with a measly 44 for the Hummingbirds, giving them just 1188 in the loss. Freedom sneaks away with the win to get to 12-18, while Tysini is 14-20 and absolutely bewildered.
That's it for now. We'll be back with the end of week 19 tomorrow, and hopefully the start of week 20 as well. We're still on track to have week 20 done by Wednesday before the pool tournament restarts.
