Diamond Gems at Midseason
The Diamond Gems suffered another major loss to the team in the offseason with Cassandra's departure from the league. For the second year in a row, the Gems turned to a rookie to replace a key veteran, bringing Rosalina aboard after picking up Pedey last year. The results have been atrocious, as the Gems hit midseason on a seven-game skid with a 10-25 record, a 1-4 division record, and no hope of the playoffs. The Gems are 6-12 at home, and 4-13 on the road, neither a mark that inspires confidence in the team at all. Their point production is only 1412 per game, far from enough to sustain success, and a clear indicator of why the team is where it is. No player exceeds 400 points per game for the Gems, but Smokey comes the close, with Citrus, Pedey, and Rosalina all in a mix around 340 per game to Smokey's 380. Both of the newer players struggle in all venues, while Citrus sacrifices road success for home skill. Smokey is a sturdy player, but this could be a team experiencing mass change by the end of the year, dependent on how pool treats them. They probably aren't as bad as the recent skid suggests, but the team itself is flawed three years removed from a regular season title.
