Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Mams v. Mario. A rising star takes on a high-profile rookie in Rotation with the blue cue. Central's Mario got a little nervous when Viewpoint Sound's Mams ripped a four-ball run from the break, but she stalled out at this point. Mario would win 8-4, finishing on a three-ball run-out to take a 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Mams got absolutely shellacked in game 2, with the Warriors' Mario showing off in two surges before capping his 8-1 win to clinch the series at 2-0 without much resistance. Mario got buried quickly in game 3, but almost dug himself out of the hole Mams created for him. Mario's late shooting was poor, allowing Mams to take her time in earning the 8-6 win. Mario won the series 2-1, and advances to face the Specters' Sydney at Harrison's Mercedes-Benz Forum.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Dusty v. Puff I. Two of Reality's sturdy players meet in 12-ball with the blue cue. Golden's Dusty gave away a wild card ball on the break, helping add some flexibility to Puff I's game for Modernistic. This didn't work out very fast, and Dusty charged with an impeccable four-ball run-out, kicking the 14 into the top right to win for a 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Dusty didn't start so well in game 2, but she got back into things and used a bit of defense to really stifle the Union's Puff I. Dusty then removed the defense, and Puff I was out of position, eventually ceding ball-in-hand as Dusty made her final shot to clinch the series at 2-0. Dusty had a decent game 3, but a couple of scratches derailed her progress, and Puff I was right there to pick up the win on an impressive two-rail bank to get the 5 in the top side for the win. Dusty still took the series 2-1, and will host the Archtown Arrows' Dusky at this venue in the second round.
Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Hoot v. Boots. Coastal rivals clash in Accuracy with the red cue. Viewpoint Sound's Hoot had a lucky bounce in the earlier parts of game 1 while Pearl's Boots was flailing, and this critical made shot proved to be the difference, as Hoot won 2-3 in the end despite a furious comeback effort from Boots. Hoot leads the series 1-0. Game 2 took a similar pattern, but it was the Surfers' Boots who came out on top this time, and she didn't need a miracle shot to defeat the Meteors' Hoot. Instead, it was plain dominant shooting that gave Boots the 1-3 win to tie the series at 1. Game 3 was a contentious battle on both sides. At the midway mark, things were tied at 2, and this only changed when Boots fell off a bit. Hoot refused to budge, taking the 2-4 win and a 2-1 series win. Hoot heads to the second round, where he hosts Southridge Defenders rookie Bianca at this venue.
Intel Center, Diamond: Pedey v. Dusky. The red cue stays in action for this Rotation series. Archtown's Dusky recovered from a rookie error early in game 1, but it took awhile, as Diamond's Pedey held a large lead before completely collapsing. Dusky's large rally in response eventually resulted in her winning 8-6, giving her a 1-0 series lead over the unfortunate Pedey. The Arrows' Dusky maintained her strong play in game 2, while the Gems' Pedey couldn't keep up with her at all. Pedey had a late three-ball run, but Dusky would soon close out the 8-4 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Dusky and Pedey battled early in game 3, with Dusky taking the early lead only to see Pedey roar back for the tie. Dusky broke the tie and wound up with an 8-6 win to sweep the series 3-0. Dusky advances to the second round, where a road series in Pacific's Verizon Field Events Center faces her with the Volcanoes captain Starlight.
Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Dustin v. Debby Ryan. The blue cue is back for 10-ball in this series. Central's Dustin had a strong start to game 1, but left a cluster in the middle of the rack. This proved to cause more trouble for Southridge's Debby, whose illegal hit on the 10 prompted Dustin to make a three-ball run-out from ball-in-hand, giving the host a 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Debby made a statement in game 2, as the Warriors' Dustin left the 4 and 10 lined up for a combination a turn after making a three-ball run. Debby converted on the combination to grab the quick win, tying the series at 1 despite a lackluster performance on her part so far. Game 3 started slowly after Debby had a softer break than Dustin's efforts. Dustin needed some time to grow into the game, but Debby had a four-ball run to pace her attack for a scratch rattled her. Dustin made the last four balls, taking his time with the 10. Dustin won the series 2-1, and will host the Todavía Stills' Sparkles in the second round at this venue.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: Shadow v. Cobalt. The blue cue stays in action in the Northeast, administering this Accuracy series. Game 1 was about as even as it could get, with Stonebridge's Cobalt faltering first but recovering as Web City's Shadow slipped. Shadow couldn't hold onto the tie late, and Cobalt picked up the 3-4 win for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 looked to be firmly in the grip of the Wolves' Cobalt a number of times, but he wasted a lead early on and missed the last ball to fall into a tie. Cobalt went with a soft break, which frustrated the Spiders' Shadow to no end in overtime, and Cobalt emerged with a 6-7 win after only missing twice in the extra rack to Shadow's three times. Cobalt secured the series at 2-0. Shadow would not be denied the win in game 3, as Cobalt's early miss proved to be a rarity. Shadow clamped down to win 0-2 when Cobalt missed on the last ball, making it a 2-1 series win for Cobalt, who will head home to Subway Arena in Stonebridge to face his teammate and club-mate, Prism, in the second round.
Kraft Forum, Royal: Hannah v. Bells. The action resumes after a break with the red cue in play for 12-ball. The play resumed Friday morning with game 1, which saw Royal's Hannah get off to a remarkable start. She was onto her last ball before she gave away two wild card balls to Todavía's Bells, who quickly ended the game after that with a big rally for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Bells had all control in game 2, but each player's last two balls required an extensive set-up sequence. Bells had more trouble with her shots, needing both side pockets, and this gave the Crowns' Hannah the time to pick her shots and get the win, tying the series at 1. Bells had a good start in game 3, making two pairs of balls to get close to the win. Her play dropped from here, allowing Hannah to get as far as having defensive position on the shared final pocket, the bottom left. Bells then put her last ball by Hannah's for the win and a 2-1 series win. The exciting finish sends Bells to Victoria in the second round, facing the Spurs' Wario at Sprint Hall.
Ford Forum, Pronger: Zach v. Nikolai. Two up-and-coming players meet in 9-ball with the red cue before a lunch break will be taken. Both players had an opportunity to display their skills in game 1, as Zach worked a five-ball run to the delight of the home Pronger crowd, while Freedom's Nikolai quickly silenced them with a three-ball run-out for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Zach again seemed to pace play in game 2, but a late miss on the 8 opened things up for the Cascades' Nikolai, who the made the final two shots to earn the win and clinch the series at 2-0 in a competitive battle. Zach took matters into his own hands in game 3, picking up the win on an early 2-9 combination to the bottom right to grab the win. Nikolai still took the series 2-1, advancing to the second round, where the Spiders captain Shadow awaits at Web City's Home Depot Forum.
Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Snowball v. Charli XCX. A star and a well-regarded sophomore resume play after lunch with 15-ball and the red cue. Swordpoint's Snowball set a fierce tone with a four-ball run early in game 1, but it didn't hold up. Snowball did hold a possession edge, but Tysini's Charli made the last two balls for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Charli took her time in game 2, starting slowly as she tangled with the Blades' Snowball. Charli emerged with a seven-ball run, and she then managed to hold off Snowball for the 15 at the end. Charli's win made it a 2-0 series in her favor. Charli had a good break in game 3 as well, but it wouldn't matter. Charli's stretch of good play went to waste when Snowball made the 6-15 combination to the top right for the win. Charli won the series 2-1, and will travel to Del Sur's House of 10 Windows to face the Southern Monarchs rookie Hoppy in the second round.
Nissan Hall, Infinity: Whiskers v. Delila. Club-mates meet in a series of Accuracy, using the blue cue. Infinity's Whiskers had a good game 1, starting off particularly strong to put Atlantic's Delila in a big hole early on. Delila tried to settle her shooting down, and the players traded misses for a bit before Whiskers sealed off the 3-6 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Delila seemed to hold onto the course of play a bit longer in game 2, but she fell off even harder this time. The Torpedoes' Whiskers also played better, and she held up her quality late in the game, earning a 2-7 win over Delila to clinch the series at 2-0 with the frenzied end. Game 3 was the closest of all, as only a pair of scratches by Delila really made a difference. Delila was pleased by the better play but frustrated to take another loss, 2-3, to Whiskers, who swept the series and will host Southwestern rival Yekaterina of the Victoria Spurs in the second round.
GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Debby Ryan v. Goatee. A captain and a veteran meet for Rotation with the red cue. Game 1 started calmly enough, with a low-scoring tie turning into a massive six-ball run for Westside's Goatee. Most impressive was her double-pot of the 6 to the top side and the 15 to the bottom right. Southridge's Debby had no response, and Goatee capped the win at 8-1 for a 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Debby and the Rockers' Goatee had a tight battle in game 2, very unlike their first game, which saw the lead exchanged after short runs. Goatee came up on the right end of this, winning 8-6 with a three-ball run-out after Debby had taken the lead. Goatee clinched the series at 2-0. Goatee had a good performance in game 3 as well, working a five-ball run-out after a contested start to down Debby again 8-3. Goatee swept the series 3-0, setting up a trip to Nissan Hall in Infinity to face the Torpedoes' Whiskers in the second round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: A. Charlton v. Hughbert. This post ends with the last 9-ball series with the red cue for the round. Southridge's Hughbert took game 1 with relative ease, showing a definite boost in his play over Golden's Charlton, who had come out kind of flat. Hughbert sealed the win with a three-ball run-out, putting him ahead 1-0 in the series. The Defenders' Hughbert maintained his play quality for game 2, keeping the Pilots' Charlton in bad positions to shoot out of. Hughbert's defense matched his offense, and he ended with a four-ball run-out after an incredible shot on the 6 that defied logic. Hughbert clinched the series at 2-0. Game 3 saw Hughbert falter a bit in his approach to his shots, allowing Charlton to take a larger share of the possession. She took advantage with a three-ball run-out, grabbing the win for a 2-1 series result. Hughbert will face club-mate Prism of the Stonebridge Wolves in Subway Arena in the second round.
That's it for this league-day. We're trying to get caught up from where we were after a mid-week slump, but it may seep over into the weekend. More action coming soon live on Twitter
